Changing iTunes Store to old country? Help!

I clicked a link on a website to look at an App and it threw up a text box, which I simply clicked through. Trouble is, turns out that text box was asking me if I wanted to switch to the American iTunes Store and I said "Yes." 
Now I can't change my iTunes back to the Australian Store. Or ANY store.
I read other topics and they suggested clicking on the "store" heading and then selecting a flag, only when I click the "store" heading, it says it's accessing the store, runs all the way to the end of the progress bar up the top and then completes, with a blank page. There's no pictures, no text, and certainly no flags.
I've tried this both signed in and signed out and there seems to be no way to get ANY iTunes store to load for me.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Gift cards are only valid on iTunes accounts based in the country in which the card was issued - to download from another store you need a valid address in that country (and if using a credit card then that needs to be registered at that same address) and you need to be in that country at the time of purchasing.
