Changing .mac screen name

I'd like to use iChat through my .mac account but don't want my name showing up with the @mac.com suffix. is there any way to change the screen name used by .mac, or do i have to go get an AIM user name and sign on with that?

You can try at the .mac page and go to your account to see if you can change it but it will still appear as [email protected] as the iChat name.
AIM names can be a bit more annoymous.

I have been using a @.mac screen name for my AIM for years now and had no issues. It still works in messages but since iCloud I can seem to use it with AIM on a PC or iPad or iPhone, or any other messages app.

Well, I know that screen sharing works over the net so the first thing that comes to my mind is that maybe the ISP is blocking the port used for screen sharing. Is the iMac accessing the net through a router?

Change my screen name

I picked a really dumb screen name when I first registered with the Adobe forums, and it's showing up now when I make comments. Is there any way to change it? And "edit profile" doesn't seem to be the answer.

We're sorry ShimmyJimmy, but you're stuck now with that embarassment of a screen name for all eternity.
Seriously though, you should be able to change your screen name through the Adobe account area. Click on "Your account" at the very top of this screen, then click on "Edit your account information". On that page you should see where you can change your screen name. This is because of the linkage that exists now between the forums and your Adobe ID.

Believe me I've look everywhere but haven't found the answer to this question. I picked the name Drew_from_Dover when I lived in Dover Delaware. I've since moved and would like to change my screen name to Drewdove, my twitter name. Can I do this and if so how? Thank you.

Long story short--I was sent a link to a forum page, I alt-tabbed to the screen and in a hurry to just see the discussion, just entered in a random string of characters.

Log in to the the AIM Web site
Go to your Account.
Change the Display name to include the Capitals and any Spaces you want.
This works if you log in as a @Mac.com or @Me.com Name

How can i change the screen name in my icould account?

my Apple ID used to have my Dad's name because of the billing issues.. now is changed again to have my name, but i keep seeing that my account on icloud.com still says my dad's name, so if i try to send an email through there it says my dad's name and my email address instead of my name...
how can i change the name that appears linked to my icloud account? (note that as i already sayd my Apple ID has my name now, i jsut want to know why is not my name in my icloud account?)

I believe it can be changed by going to https://appleid.apple.com/, click Manage your Apple ID, sign in with your iCloud ID, select "Name, ID and Email Addresses", then click "Edit" next to the name listed under "Your Name" and change it as desired.
Also, if you are trying to change the sender name for your iCloud email account, you'll want to go to icloud.com, sign into your account, open Mail, click the gear shaped icon on the bottom left and choose Preferences, go to the Accounts tab and enter the name you want to use in the Full Name field and click Done. Then quit Mail (Command-Q) on your Mac and re-open it. Your new From name should now appear in the drop-down list when you compose a new email.

Can't change Mac's name...

A few month ago I set up a new Mac with Leopard. Now I changed its name in the Preferences. The machine has the new name, but when I start Terminal the "old" name still exists...
What can I do to set the Mac's name in the Terminal too?

If you change the name using System Preferences->Sharing->Computer Name then it should show up in the Terminal. I have no idea why it isn't working (it is here), but I will suggest that you post Unix and Terminal issues to the Unix forum under OS X Technologies.

Prime Infrastructure - Automating the change "mac@ - AP name" with CSV file

Hi,
We are going to deploy a lot of new LAP. For each site our customer will give us an excel file with the MAC @ of the AP and the target name.
I was wondering if it was possible to automate the injection of this file "mac <-> ap name" and then apply the predefined template with P.I ?
If yes, could you explain how, as I am new to Prime Infrastructure.,The goal is to avoid to rename each AP individually on prime as there is a lot of AP to deploy.

Hi Oliv:
In the Classic View of Prime Infrastructure, under Configure > Access Points, there's a menu option for Import AP Config. This uses a .csv file to match APs by the MAC address and make changes in bulk. From the online help:
Sample File Header:
AP Name,Ethernet MAC,Location,Primary Controller,Secondary Controller,Tertiary Controller
ap-1, 00:1c:58:74:8c:22, sjc-14-a, controller-4404-1, controller-4404-2, controller-4404-3
The CSV file can contain following fields. AP Ethernet MAC Address is mandatory, Optional fields are AP Name, Location, Primary Controller, Secondary Controller and Tertiary Controller.
Optional fields can be empty. AP Config Import will ignore empty optional field values. However, if Primary Controller and Secondary Controller entries are empty then Unified AP update is not done
Ethernet MAC: AP Ethernet MAC Address
AP Name:AP Name
Location:AP Location
Primary Controller:Primary Controller Name
Secondary Controller:Secondary Controller Name
Tertiary Controller:Tertiary Controller Name

Change forum screen name

Hi,
I wasn't sure where to go for this, there doesn't seem to be a "support forum" or any easy way to reach the forum administrators without starting from the top at Sun.
I don't know why my screen name is my name, but I was wondering if there's a way to change it. I have tried the Forum Settings and My Profile, and neither seemed to have an option for it.

Changing the screen name or computer name.

when i installed leopard and it asked for information on the computer name i put the wrong information. how do i change the computer name. i looked in accounts under system prefences and i changed the name there but in finder under places where there is the home button it is the old one. how do i completely change all of it to the new one.

Open the Accounts pane of System Preferences, unlock the padlock, control-click your account, choose Advanced Options, and change it. If you change the home directory's path, you also need to move its contents in the Finder.

How do I change by screen name?

I would like to change my name from Mike1011 to something else. I want to leave everything else the same. I can't figure out how to do it. Could somebody please give me some direction? Thanks.

Here is some additional info.
The Alias of the account you are using, cannot be changed, but you can create a new Discussions Account, with an Alias that you prefer.
You cannot delete your present account. Just stop using it, after you have created a new one.
You can use all of the same info in the new account, Email address, User name, etc, just be sure to insert a new Alias of your choosing.
But your Level(1), Points(80), Total Posts(92), Total Posts Online(92) and Registered Date(11/1/06), will not be transferred.
In the new account, your Post Counts, Points, & Level Status will all start at 0. Your Registered Date will be the date you create the new account.
Your old account, with your previous counts & level, will still be viewable, under the old Alias.
After you quit using the old account, those posts, will be archived. What that means is, that if there are no additional responses in the Threads they reside in, the Topics will get continually pushed down on the Topics list. After a certain amount of time, maybe 2 to 6 months, the Threads will be locked, so no responses can be entered. But the Threads will not disappear.
Threads in heavily trafficked Forums, may be archived more rapidly than those in areas, with less activity.
The Topics that you started using the old account, will show your Old Alias, in the Author field of a main forum page, but eventually, readers will have to keep going to the succeeding pages to view them.
If someone were to do a Discussions Search, using these parameters:
Restrict by Category or Forum: All Categories
Restrict by Date Range: All
Restrict by Username: Your Old Alias
all of your posts, created since about 11/13/05, would be found.
To create a new account,
Log out of Discussions. Delete the Apple Cookies in your browser preferences. Then follow either of these instructions.

If you haven't signed up for an Apple ID for the Apple Store or AppleCare Support website (or forgot your old one), you can create a new account on the My Info webpage. Just click the "create one" link on the right side of the My Info page. Choose your country location and preferred language from the appropriate pop-up menus, then click Create Account. In the resulting page, enter a unique name (such as your email address) in the Apple ID field and fill in your other relevant information accordingly (fields marked with * are required). Click Continue to complete the process.
-To register, click Login in the sidebar on the right side of the Discussions page. In the resulting page, click the "create one" link at the bottom of the page, then click "create one" in the subsequent page and follow the instructions to create an Apple ID. My Mac's name is changing time by time...

I've just upgraded to Yosemite, but all goes wrong, BT, speed down, wallets stopped synronise from iCloud/Drive between mac an ios, so lost f...ing importand passwords AND my Mac's name is changing time by time, many times a day....
I set up in zac.local and the name is Zac, 10 minutes later in finder I see Zac (2) and Zac (3) !!!! What the ****!!! Who is 2, 3?
I checked zac.local isn't changed but there were Zac (2)... repair... then drop a file by airdrop to my macmini and it wrote Zac (2) send.... ???????
All my macs and IOS what we have in family went crazy after upgrade to Yosemite / IOS 8 (now 8.1)
I did SMC and PRAM reset, bit better now, but why change mac's name ???? Any idea? How to solve?

If you're running Mac OS X client, then launch System Preferences, select Sharing, and fill in the blank.
If you're running Mac OS X Server variant (and this is one of the Server forums), then changing the name of the server is rather different, and involves using the changeip command and quite possibly a trip through the DNS definitions for the host.
