Changing MacBook batteries

I need a little help in changing MacBook batteries.
Me and my family bought 2 MacBooks (standard MacBooks, not Pro or Air) in October of 2008. From what I understand they're same model but one is white and the other is black and has a hard disk with several more GBs. Later on, I ended being the only one using the white one while the black one didn't really get used by anyone excluding a few times now and then. Needless to say the black one has a battery which lasts way longer compared to the white one – mine – whose battery dies pretty quickly after almost 4 years now of very frequent use.
I would like to know a) if I can switch batteries and b) if I can, could you possibly give me insight on the proper/safe way to do that.
By the summer of 2013 I intend to have already bought a new MacBook so I guess I just need to spend the time until then using the most of my MacBook and not have to charge like 2-3 times a day.
Thank you for the help.
P.S.: For any information on model types, hardware/software characteristics or other System Profiler info you may need to know just ask me.

If you have a MacBook with the removable battery you can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay. Every MacBook from 2006 through Mid 2009 except the Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 and 2010 White Unibodies use the same A1185 battery.

Removing the battery:
Shut down the computer. Disconnect any cords connected to the computer.
Turn the computer over.
Locate the battery latch on one side of the battery.
Use a coin to turn the latch a quarter-turn clockwise. The battery should pop up slightly.
Lift the battery out.
Installing the battery:
Place the right side of the battery into the battery compartment at an angle, as shown below.
Gently press the left side of the battery down until it sits flat.
While holding the battery down, use a coin to turn the latch a quarter-turn counter-clockwise. The battery should lock into place.
Note: Keep in mind that once the new battery is inserted, you will need to press the power button to start up the computer.

  • My IMac has stopped seeing the keyboard. I have changed the batteries and the green light comes on saying it is looking to pair with the IMac but without success. I am left with the IMac switched on and I am unable to enter a password.

I have been using my IMac without a problem when I left it and went back to enter the password the IMac did not see the keyboard. I have changed the batteries and the green light comes up on the keyboard and then starts to flash indicating it is looking for the IMac but nothing happens. I have tried another set of new batteries with the same result. Is there any known problems in this area. The IMac is 5 months old.
    Thank you for any help

What operating system does your iMac have? (please always post your operating system to prevent confustion).
If it's pre-Lion you will have to set Mail up manually:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Tiger

  • TS2662 changed the batteries on wireless keyboard and does not turn on now

Changed the batteries on wireless keyboard and now it does not turn on, is there a trick to this?

No trick.  Be sure the batteries are inserted correctly and that the cover is tight.
    Try different batteries.
Reset the SMC if it still does not work.

  • I have bought the wireless keyboard for my iPad.  I was working for a day but now the power light won't stay on and as such won't connect to the iPad.  I have changed the batteries but still no difference.

I have bought the wireless keyboard for my iPad.  I was working for a day but now the power light won't stay on and as such won't connect to the iPad.  I have changed the batteries but still no difference.

Not knowing which wireless keyboard you bought, it is difficult to be specific.  but ...
it is quite normal for the keyboard's power light not to stay on - it is a way of conserving battery power.
    Try this:
    turn you keyboard off
on your iPad go to Settings > Bluetooth
if your keyboard is listed under Devices, then touch the little blue i to its right and choose Forget this Device
now reset your iPad:  hold both the Home and Power buttons down for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears, let go promptly when the Apple logo appears and wait another 30 seconds for your iPad to turn itself on
After your iPad is back on again go back to Settings > Bluetooth
now turn your keyboard back on and see if it appeard under Now Discoverable
if it doesn't read your keyboard guide to figure out how to put it into Discovery mode
touch the listing for your keyboard under Now Discoverable, it should now appear under Devices
touch the listing for you keyboard under Devices, and choose to pair with it.

  • "Change the Batteries"

got a message on my new Powershot saying "Change The Batteries" so I put 2 new ones in and took about 2 pictures, then tried to take another picture and I get that same message AGAIN.  This isn't right.  What could be causing this message.  Is this a common thing with Powershots? It doesn't even have much usage on it at all, as it is only a month old. Would appreciate any help in this matter. Thanks.

Pat, what Powershot model do you have?  What kind of batteries are you putting in? (alkaline? rechargable?)

    Hi,
One of our users has iMac, 10.6.8.
She has not got any local account.
She logs on to AD domain, with domain ID
When after 40 days or so she is asked the change the password; it does not work.
If we change it for here through AD or through another Windows PC, it works.
Could you please let me know the best course of action for this type of users who are not administrators of iMac?
I tested by changing my account's PAssword and it worked( I have administrative role).

  • If you can't scroll up or down, change the batteries of your mouse....

If you can't scroll up and down with your Mac, change the batteries of your mouse....

I have Lenovo Thinkpad laptop and Lenovo optical USB mouse connected to docking station. Mouse wheel works in all applications except Firefox.
The solution I found: go to "Control Panel/Mouse/Wheel" (I have here some Lenovo application).
The first option "Wheel" on the tab has 2 choices: "Enable Universal Scrolling" (default) and "Use Microsoft Office 97 Scrolling Emulation Only". If I switch to 2nd option, then scrolling works in Firefox. Since Firefox is the only application that has a problem, I keep the 1st option, but add Firefox to "Exceptions" list. Now scrolling works fine.

    Hi LB!
Thank you for posting on our forum!
Try cleaning the electrical contacts on the camera and the batteries using a soft microfiber cleaning cloth.  If the same warning still displays, then the camera will need to be serviced.  To start the repair process, you'll need to complete a Repair Request on our website.
If the camera is more than a year old, you may participate in the Canon Loyalty Program instead.  The Canon Loyalty Program option allows you to replace your current camera for a discounted fee, plus shipping.  The original non-functioning camera would then be returned to Canon USA for recycling using a prepaid shipping label that would be provided.
If you would like to take part in this option, please call our Sales Department at (800) OK CANON (800-652-2666) seven days a week, 8am to Midnight.  Let them know you have been working with online support and the Canon Loyalty Program was offered.  Be sure to have your serial number for your camera at the time of your call.

    Hi Vindhiya!
Thank you for posting and welcome to the Canon Forum.
The connection between the batteries and the camera may be dirty.  Gently clean over the contacts on the battery compartment cover, inside the battery compartment and on the batteries.  Make sure the batteries are fresh as well.  If this does not help, the camera will be in need of repair.
The Powershot S2 IS is no longer in service life, so it is unable to be repaired by our Factory Service Centers.  However,  you may participate in the Canon Loyalty Program instead.  The Canon Loyalty Program option allows you to replace your current camera for a discounted fee, plus shipping.  The original non-functioning camera would then be returned to Canon USA for recycling using a prepaid shipping label that would be provided.

my wireless mouse is not working at all. I have changed the batteries and still nothing, not even a flashing green light. I am using someone else's computer to ask these questions as I now can't use mine. Help!!!

I just had the same problem. And I found the solution, on Youtube.
The problem is that these ******** at apple designed the battery compartement, the distance between metal contacts too big.
That means the batteries plus or minus poles are not touching the corresponding contacts in the mouses battery compartement.
Most likely the battery doesn't get pushed up to touch the plus contacts.
I used a fingernail to push the battery up and tadaa, the green LED came on.
The guy in the Youtube video just put some folded aluminium foil under the minus poles for bridging the gap.
See here, "How to fix the Apple Magic Mouse!":

    Hope this helps.
