  • Impossible to change mail settings in Lion?

Never experienced this in any other verion of OSX.
Mail app: Mail > Preferences > Account Information Tab
I delete password, close dialogue box, am prompted if I want to save changes, click save.
When I re-open the same Preferences windown, the password is still there. Mail will not save changes. Why?
Moreover, if my password is there, why is there a lightning bolt next to my account and mail will not check for new email?

Normally I was prompted for the password with a dialogue box. The computer was being difficult earlier and I simply had to hit "cancel" in that dialogue box to get out of the system for a moment ... once that was done, there appears to be no way to ever again enter one's password or check mail.
Tried clicking the "check mail" button to bring up the password prompt - nothing happens.
Entered the correct password in the mail preferences for that account - nothing happens.
The only way I could find to fix the problem is delete the account (IMAP), and re-create. Because it's IMAP, I don't lose any data, but it seems crazy that if one cancels out of the password dialog box, the ability to check mail is forever lost until you re-create your account.

  • How to change Mail settings to show mails in HTML or text ?

    Hi,
    I am using SL10.8,
I somehow changed the mail viewing setting in Mail app to display all mails in text, now html mails loks quite ugly, and I couln't find the option to change this.
    please help

I am using a Mac Mini with OS 10.8.5. I have the same problem with Mail and HTML images — in particular an email in the form of a grid with concert dates and venues, which displays correctly in webmail in my browser, but in Mail appears as a continuous unformatted and unpunctuated text.
I have just tried your first Terminal command, and this is what appears:
    Michaels-Mac-mini:~ MichaelGraubart$ defaults read com.apple.mail PreferPlainText
    2014-12-15 18:45:33.458 defaults[27374:707]
The domain/default pair of (/Users/MichaelGraubart/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Preferen ces/com.apple.mail, PreferPlainText) does not exist
    Michaels-Mac-mini:~ MichaelGraubart$
Can you suggest anything else I could try? I should be very grateful.

  • Bugs? can't change the time ... Can't view all mail settings

Am I the only one with this problem? I changed my iPhone with an I phone 3G.
when I go to change the time... it sends me back to the main screen. same with mail settings. I am running on ver 2.1.

Go to Settings > General > International > Region Format
I selected United States and then was able to set my Date & Time no problem. What was interesting was that my region format was set to English but there is no option for English only UK or US. That's probably where the bug was.
    I found the answer here

When I receive and answer e-mail, the correspondence is usually "nested" "behind"  the original message, and the number of replies, etc. are indicated with a number next to the original message in the inbox.  How can I change the mail settings so that every reply is listed individually in the inbox instead of having them "stacked" behind the original message.  I'm afraid I might accidentially overlook messages the way they are handled now.

Somebody here will correct me if I'm wrong, but what you have to do is go into Settings, Mail/Contacts/Calendars and under Mail, turn off "Organize by Thread".  I think that will make each message show individually.

I set iCloud up last week and the next day when out in the field I could not get Outlook to open up.  I want to change my settings so I can get mail at home or in the field, not just when i'm at home.  I have a PC and fios internet with Verizon at home.  I have a Sprint air card in the field or access an available wifi.  I want to change my settings to allow for receiving email in the field.  What's the point of an air card and icloud for backup fi it doesn't work in the field for some odd reason?

  • How do I change incoming mail settings in Snow Leopard Mail?

When I try to change the settings for my Mail app, in Snow Leopard, the incoming mail settings are greyed out.  What do I do to be able to change these?
(I had a problem, with my Mail account, which a consultant fixed for me on my laptop.  But I cannot remember what he did to access the incoming mail server preferences, and make the changes, because on my desktop these are still greyed out.)

use the mail setup wizard, head over to Mail Community, mobileme ended.

How can I change the settings on my iPhone 5 so that I get new emails automatically? Without having to open the mail app.
    Thanks!

No, they will all follow the default setting. If you want them all to fetch, for example every 15 minutes, then set it to 15 minutes in Fetch. I only mentioned the other if you wanted to leave one for manual. I have an account on my phone that is a POP account that I get mail at home from. I let my home computer get this mail, but when I am out of town, I pick it up with the iPhone. That one is set to manual.

  • Poll: Mail settings changes by itself

Now I want to make a poll to know how frequent this bug is:
Mail is unexpectedly changing settings in the "Preferences"-"Accounts"-"Advanced" from "Password" to "APOP"
(When this happens Mail is immediately asking for "Password"and nothing works anymore)
This applys to POP-accounts where the ISP-provider tells you that the setting is supposed to be set to "password".
Please reply to this subject to confirm the frequency of this bug.
    Michael

I got this problem after istalling Leopard ( clean). Mail settings for password can´t be saved and changes itself to apop. And then mail asks for password when I open mail. This is a problem specific to pop accounts. Beccause it affects popusers all over the wolrd this is an apple issue BUG!!!!
I have tried all remedys suggested, changing intervals for mailchecking, new account, keychain, etc etc but nothing works. There are many more having this bud.
There are two other topics about this a.o mail not remembering pazzword.
I.M.H.O it could be worth to tell your ISP provider that you can´t use their APOP because Apple is refusing to react about this bug. So we don´t even know if there is a fix going on.
APPPLE officials! -Good morning! It´s time to get up and go to work!!!-

Normally the outbound SMTP server has to be provided by the email provider, other wise if your email domain name is not part of the domain that the SMTP server recognizes as its own, it will not accept your mail for delivery.
You have to use your account to authenticate to the outbound SMTP server before it will accept your email for delivery. They do that to avoid spamers using their servers to send spam.
    For example:
For my verizon.net account, I use smtp.verizon.net (port 465 with SSL on and password authentication).
For my gmail account, I use smtp.gmail.com (port 465 with SSL on and password authentication).
And for my live.com account I use smtp.live.com (port 25 with SSL on and password authentication).
    They all work just fine.

Re: How delete over 20,000 old emails messages easily?
To delete all of your messages from your inbox, go to the settings tab, and then go down to "Number of messages per page" and set it to "No limit". Hit "Save" at the top and then hit OK when it asks you to refresh your browser. Then in your inbox, check the box that is to the left of "Sender" and hit delete. It will take a long time if you have that many messages, but it'll get done. Cheers!

  • Change default settings for Mail

I'm in charge of updating our disk image for our MacBook Pro's running 10.6.2
I need to modify the following settings in our image.
    -Junk Filter turned OFF
-Edit > Attachments > Always Send Windows-Friendly Attachments - ENABLED
-Edit > Attachments > Always Insert Attachments at End of Message - ENABLED
How can I change these settings on my image, so when the image is deployed to a Mac they will get the Mail Wizard setup with these settings set?
    Thanks in Advance,

For what it's worth, I figured it out.
In addition to my iCloud calendars, I subscribed to CalDAV calendars from my office (from Snow Leopard Server).  For some reason, you can't set or change a default calendar unless you turn off the CalDAV calendars.  At that point, the option to set a default calendar magically appears.  I set the default I wanted, then turned the CalDAV calendars back on, at which time the option disappeared again, but fortunately left my selected calendar as the default.
    Hope this helps someone!

I was having trouble sending to hotmail accounts from my Earthlink account, they had me go into Mac Mail preferences and make changes (because they claimed it was Mac Mail's fault, even though the hotmail error code said it's because Earthlink is blocked by hotmail), now Mac Mail doesn't work AT ALL - any help changing the settings back to correct Mac Mail settings? I can provide a transcript of the entire tech chat session, if that will help...

both apostrophes are used correctly, thanks
doesn't = does not (this is called a contraction)
    it's = it is
    Mac Mail's fault = possessive
any help with the actual issue? thanks!

  • Lost my default "Write Mail" settings I they change to someting else. How do I get them back?

Lost my usual "Write Mail Settings." The format at the top changed and also changed to a blue color. How do I get my default settings back when I click on "Write Mail"?

Restart your Mac occasionally. Personally, I shutdown my macs every night.
It goes without saying, leave your apps in the Applications folder.
Max out your RAM, it's cheap these days. Recommend OWC: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/ and/or Crucial: http://www.crucial.com/store/drammemory.aspx
Make sure hard drive has at least 15% free space available.
Upgrade your hard drive to a 7200 rpm model or a solid state drive: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/
Avoid software's like MacKeeper, and other softwares that claim to clean your Mac.
Use the "Activity Monitor" App in your Application's Utilities folder to monitor your Mac's performance:

  • IPhone suddenly deleting mail!! I have changed no settings. Doing this on both gmail and gmx..why?

I have had my iphone for about two months and suddenly, yesterday, I noticed that several e-mails were deleted that I DID NOT delete.  I changed NO settings from when I originally set up the accounts.  This is happening with both my gmail and my gmx account.
I went to try to retrieve these e-mails off the server, these too, were deleted.  In fact, everything in my inbox was wiped out.
I know for a fact that my account has not been hacked...but I do not understand why my mail is disappeared.
There was some very, very important e-mails that got deleted and I have no idea of how this happened all the sudden.
    Any help is appreciated!!

i just recently am having the same problems.....had my iPhone for over a year and never experienced it before. Interesting that others are reporting same problem!
