Changing Main display

Using 10.6 and Aperture 3.1.2 on multiple monitors on a 24" iMac. I want to show my slide show on the extended desktop but it always starts on the main desktop and won't allow me to drag it to the extended desktop (50" plasma). I need to tell Aperture to start the slide show on the extended desktop or reverse the extended and main desktop but don't see a way to do either. Anyone know a way to do this?

Note: If you have a dual-display system, you can choose which display the slideshow appears on when you click the Play Slideshow button. To specify which display the slideshow appears on, choose Aperture → Preferences, then click Appearance. Choose which display you want the slideshow to appear on from the “View Slideshows on” pop-up menu.

Error while changing the Display Attribute into Navigational Attribute

Hi all.. Gud Mrng.
I was changed the attribute (product) from display attribute into navigational attribute and while save and activating the info object it is not getting activated and it is throwing the below error message.
Error Message: u201CThe Info object is being used in several data targetsu201D
My Questions:
i) Do I need to delete the data from all the data targets (where this info object is using)??
ii) Do I need to delete data only from the main info object (Zmaterial)? Is this single action enough?
Please suggest me which action I need to follow & What are the precautions need to take while changing the Display Attribute (product) into Navigational attribute of info object (Zmaterial).

Only in case of key figures we cannot change it from display to navigational.
If the info object is a characteristics then in the General tab of the info object if you select 'attribute only' then the iobj would be a display attribute only. If you leave it unmarked then you can use the iobj as a navigational atribute.
I am sure you know that these settings only mean if a IOBJ can be used as display or navigational. To use it as a navigational within another object you will have to change the settings from 'DIS' to 'NAV' for the said info object in the 'Attributes' tab of its parent info object.
Further if you use the parent info object in any data target / infio provider you will have to further mark the info object as 'navigational' while defining the attrbute of the said data target / info provider. The info object gets displayed in the data target / info provider attribute properties as 'parent IOBJ_info object'

Full screen Playback only on Main Display

I noticed that after upgrading to Lion quicktime player won't play movies full screen on my second display. Under Snow Leopard if the quicktime window was on the second display and you hit full screen it would fill the display is was on. Now the video slides to the main display and then goes full screen. There doesn't seem to be any way to change that behavior. There are no preferences.
The only work around is to move the menu bar in the display preferences to the second menu, so that the second monitor becomes the main one.
Any solutions or terminal commands I make to set it back to the old way?

This issue seems to be related to Lion's "Full Screen App" mode in Lion, where a window that goes to full screen creates a separate Space, and it always uses the "primary" screen (the one with Menu Bar). So it's the same as making a Safari window go to full screen; it always uses the screen with the Menu Bar.
But I did noticed something interesting. If it's a video that can play in iTunes (instead of using QuickTime Player), then you can make it play full screen on the other screen. Play the video in iTunes so that it plays in a separate window. Move the window to the secondary screen (the one without Menu Bar), and make it go full screen. It plays at full screen on that screen.
So it is possible, but Apple has not done it for QuickTime Player. You should send Apple feedback to request the same functionality for QuickTime Player, like I did.
Also, VLC Player (third-party video player app) still uses the "old school" way of doing full screen mode, so it still works the same way as before. Full screen will go to the screen that has the window playing the video.

How can I make an external monitor the main display?

I have a mid 2007 iMac running OS X 10.4. The internal monitor is broken and all it shows is a bunch of lines.
I have connected an external Samsung monitor. All I see in it is a desktop background: no icons, no menus, no dock. I believe this is because the display is in extended mode and the main display is the internal monitor. I cannot use the System Preferences Panel to change this, because the internal monitor is useless.
I have a second, newer iMac, from which I can login to the first via ssh.
Is there a way to make the external monitor the main display from the command line?
(I have though of editing the Preferences List, but I do not know what to change and how to change it. I do have Developers Tool installed and thus can access the Preferences List Editor.)

Hi everybody!
To solve the problem I wrote a script that creates a Systems Preferences windows which shows up in the external monitor. Once this happens the configuration can be changed manually, to make the external monitor the main display. This is what I did:
First I created a user with automatic login in the faulty machine. To do this:
1.- Restarted this malfunctioning iMac in Firewire Target mode.
2.- Rebooted the working iMac using the other machine as startup disk.
3.- Created the user.
4.- Restarted both machines normally
Next I wrote a script which opens System Preferences and shifts its window to the left:
5.- In the working machine I saved the script as a 'Run only' application:

set the bounds of the first window to {x0, y0, x0 + dx + wx, y0 + wy}

6.- Then uploaded it to the iMac with the faulty screen.

Then I added the script application to the automatic login user in the faulty machine:
8.- Restarted the malfunctioning iMac in Firewire Target mode.
9.- Rebooted the working iMac using the other machine as startup disk.
10.- In System Preferences added the script to login items.
11.- Restarted both machines.
The System Preferences window now showed in the external terminal. I was able to go into the Displays pane and set the external monitor as the main display (dragging the white bar to it).

Main display simply lost after a sleep

Hi,
Since few days, I have a strange problem with a new macbook (a macbook 5.1, with a GeForce 9400M video card).
From Mac OS (the last up to date version 10.5.6), after a sleep asked from the menu, the monitor simply stopped working, black screen. Even after reboots, I am not able anymore to retrieve the main display.
But it is not an hardware problem with the monitor or the video card I guess,
because :
1/ If I plug an external monitor via the mini display port, that external
monitor works fine.
2/ I have a Linux installed on this computer. The dual boot is supported by
refit, and linux boots by default. When I turn on the computer, during
the refit boot process, the monitor does not work. After few seconds, refit
boots on Linux, and then the LCD monitor works fine just when the grub
boot process is launched !
Just to give more insight about the problem:
- When I plug an external monitor, I can boot on Mac OS from the refit
boot menu.
- Then, using mac os from the external monitor, I see that the main monitor is
not anymore recognized, I can see only the external monitor from the
"monitor preferences". Moreover, from the detailed devices list, for the
"Video Card/monitor" section it is said for the laptop monitor "Status: no display connected" for the NVIDIA (whereas the video card is well recognized).
- It is really strange, but even if the LCD monitor works well on Linux,
the window manager can not find a proper display configuration for the monitor
using the nvidia driver. The latter is thus unloaded and I launch my window
manager in a low-resolution mode with a generic video driver. It became
impossible to load nvidia driver. I do not know if these problems are connected...
I tried several things :
- mac os is completly up to date (I even tried a reinstallation), efi firmware and so on
- resetting the nvram from the mac boot process
- resetting the system management controller (SMC) of the macbook
- from Linux, I recompiled the last official nvidia drivers...
- try to see from an efi shell if it was possible to do something, without success (I am able to launch an efi shell from the external monitor).
- Even if I run Mac OS with the black screen, it boots properly (e.g. I can change from the keyboard the sound volume)
I have no more idea now.
If someone from the list has an idea, or event just an other direction to investigate, thanks a lot in advance.

Sounds equal to my problem - LCD of my Unibody MacBook stays black since this morning.
My MacBook was working and I went away. When coming back the display was black. No mousemove, shutdown or restart or PRAM/SMC reset helped.
External display works fine. The system recognizes the "internal" display. Backlight is working - so I can set the brightness. But that's all.
I can remember that I had such black drops right after I bought that MacBook (October 15 2008). But after some software updates I never saw this happen again.
I also tried with a totally clean Mac OS X install (have another harddisk) - nothing.

Replace the clock with 'empty' under personalize view. Or you may find a settings under time & date to turn the main display clock off.

Carrier name in main display to short

it seems the carrier name in the main display are only 8 characters long. more seems not possible. This is a great problem when i switch between germany and netherland. Carriername in germany is "T-Mobile D" in Nederland "T-Mobile NL". On main display stands only "T-Mobile". Big Problem, while the automatic carrier change also not works properly when i switch between countrys. In worst case i am since 20miles in germany, the carrier has not switched, see in display "T-Mobile" and i am not online. Any idea to fix the problem??

Now i have received a 2. Iphone 3G. On this iPhone is the original Firmare 2.0.1 installed. I have not updated. Same Problem. The carrier do not change automaticly when i cross the border to Nederland or Belgium. On the display i can can read the old carrier name. When i try to use the Phone he says NO SERVICE. Only when i turn OFF the power und then turn ON again he logs in to the new carrier, or when i search manually the Provider. In Nederland, Germany, Belgium it is forbidden ti use the phone while driving. So i must stop every time a cross the border, otherwise i am Offline. If i forgot this, while in display stands "T-Mobile" i am not reachable. GREAT Problem and a shame for APPLE

Force applications to launch on/move to main display

I have an HDTV attached via HDMI to my Mac mini. I use it to watch catchup TV through Google Chrome from time to time. On the occasions when I launch Google Chrome and the HDTV is using a different source (eg. DVD), Google Chrome still launches on the HDTV, rendering it inaccessible. At this point, the only remedy currently available is to change to the PC source on the HDTV and manually move Google Chrome to the main display—which is a drag both literally and metaphorically!
Can someone suggest a way of making the frontmost application move all its open and future windows to the main display when launched or when already running?

You may not like the results of greater resolutions, but the MBP-R's circuitry definitely can handle them.
It's not the ability of the computer to deal with higher resolutions that I doubt, but the ability of the external display to deal with higher resolutions. Even having said that, I think you neglect the fact that the native resolution of the screen on the rMBP is the highest of any generally available consumer-level device at the moment. The chances of your external device having a higher resolution available is very slim.
The opinion that, ""Mirror" can only Mirror the lesser of the two resolutions" has been seconded by a new poster on my other thread, so in the absence of anything valid contradicting that I'm inclined to bring that avenue of pursuit to a close.
So, I'm still looking for a way of making the frontmost application move all its open and future windows to the main display when launched or when already running, without unplugging the external display and without affecting the native resolution of the main display. Personally, I think this is something Apple has simply neglected to address, and I'm going to have to put in a feature request (not to mention a complaint regarding the "mirroring" menu).

You can't change the display in the Mail app, if you are holding the iPad in landscape orientation then the left-hand third will be for navigation, and the right-hand two-thirds will be an email. If you hold the iPad in portrait orientation then the navigation section becomes a drop-down section.

How to change external display resolution WITHOUT clicking "CONFIRM"?

I have a somewhat unusual situation. My MacBook laptop is actually now a ModBook (a pen-tablet computer), and as such I no longer have a trackpad attached to it. All of my inputs are via the stylus, tapping directly on the built-in display.
This works perfectly fine, except when I need to give presentations on an LCD projector (which is quite often lately). I like to use the projector as an external monitor, so that I can run the Keynote presentation on it while using my laptop screen as the presenter's display, with the upcoming slide, etc. If the projector doesn't give me an ideal native display option (sometimes, the aspect ratio for the 3 or 4 resolutions available in the Displays drop-down in the menubar turn out to be stretched or squeezed), then I, naturally, have to open the Display System Preferences and try out different resolutions.
The problem is, since my stylus only interacts by clicking directly on the built-in-display, I have no way of moving the cursor over to the external display when the dialog box with the "Click here to confirm change/You have 15 seconds..." message appears. So I can never click it ... so I can never confirm the new settings.
The workarounds I've used so far are:
- Mirror displays (not ideal, as I need the presenter preview of the next slide)
- borrow a mouse from someone (usually from a Windows desktop, frankly) and plug that in to briefly mouse over and click the confirm button
I'd love to find a software workaround that allows me to NOT mirror displays and also doesn't require me to carry around a mouse all the time (my laptop bag is already overstuffed...).

Change the display of the multiple Table items using a single Drop-down

I have created a Web Template in BEx WAD (BW 3.5) with 4 Tables assigned to 4 dfferent Queries. Now I want to change the display of the all the Four Tables based on the selection of display properties chosen in a single Dropdown item. The properties to be selected in the dropdown are like changing the Alternate style display of Rows, Suppress Alternate Style, Display only 30 Rows or 60 Rows.
Please help me in writing the script necessary to pass the command from the dropdown to all the Tables to get the desired output.

Dipika, Thanks for the response.
I tried using that option but again since we cannot give custom options in a drop-down,
I created a Form with a drop-down list of options like Suppress Result Rows, Suppress alternate style of rows, Display only 30 Rows, Display only 100 rows .. and so on.
Now I am able to change the display of my first table by selecting the options in the drop-down list. But my intention is to apply that selection to Multiple Tables.
How can I achieve that?

How to change the display name for Gmail aliases?

I have a Gmail account with multiple aliases. They look like this:
Joe User <[email protected]> (Primary)
Support <[email protected]> (Alias)
Billing <[email protected]> (Alias)
Works great. I'm trying to set up Apple Mail on my new MacBook to support the aliases as well. I am able to input the e-mail aliases, but the display names for all are 'Joe User' which defeats the purpose of having the aliases.
I have to imagine I can do this. Can someone help me out?

I am unable to play a downloaded HD movie from iTunes. SD movies play OK. An error popped up saying something about the display not suitable for HD movies but now all I get is a blank window. I have tried changing the display resolution to no avail.

I have sownloaded an HD movie from iTunes store and when I attempted to play it on my Windows 7 PC a error message popped up saying something about the display not being compatible for HD movies. I have tried changing the display resolution several times but it didn't help. Now it just comes up with a blank screen when I attempt to play it. SD movies work fine. I have the latest version of iTunes installed.
Can anyone help me resolve this problem?

Apparently the display is required to be HDCP compatible to view HD movies in iTunes. My display isn't so this is my problem. I contacted Apple support and they have agreed to credit me for the HD movie and I have now downloaded the SD version.
