Changing mainboards

Hello,
My MacBook has been drowned - literally with water (or beer, I can't remember) - and I brought it to an Apple Centre. They said it's not covered by warranty as it's obviously my fault and it would cost round 1,200 dollars, only to replace the damaged mainboard. If they could have it refurbished, the cost would be as low as 800 dollars!
So I decided to pack the MacBook in a bag and put it somewhere I can forget about it... until I came across with an idea: to replace the old mainboard with a new one (Core 2 Duo). I called AppleCare and asked if that was possible. They say that's against their policy and they cannot guarantee a new mainboard will work inside an old case.
I think it's too expensive to go for it at my own risk... but has anyone thought about it or tried this?

Hi honcho,
Welcome to apple forum.
It is against their policy to sell C2D logic board for CD macbook, even though I believe it is do-able. And if some of apple authorized service center could get it for you, it won't be cheap.
And from your post that said it is "drowned", probably the optical drive and all other part (Hard Drive, LCD inverter, etc) could be already bit the dust.
For $1200, probably you better buy the new one with C2D and better optical drive rather than play with something your not certain either.

you get that message because there is a notable hardware change within your system.
its something ms office does i have noticed more than others - i have had problems with norton av due to overclock failures but the only time i have ever seen the reactivation issue is with a "major" change in hardware.
seeing as you have changed your motherboard aswell as your processor, it would probably be in your best interest to do a clean install of windows and all other applications.

Finally I solve the problem. Since I bought mainboard at Nov. 24.
I struggled to fight against Noise..
I changed mainboard 3 times. and I tryed 5 different power supply model.
finally I'm succes.
It' was "Power Saving Option" I'm using Windows7 64bit Enterprise build 7600
If I set my System "High performance mode" NOISE IS VERY VERY BIG
If I set my System "Normal mode" NOISE IS little
If I set my System "Max saving mode" NOISE IS disappear.
I don't know why but it work.
I expect it concern with APS. When "High performance mode" is APS disble.

I/O Backplate upgrade option for MSI Big Bang X79

Is there anyway to purchase a padded MSI I/O Motherboard backplate? EVGA makes a really nice I/O padded backplate for their EVGA X79 FTW Motherboards so i was hoping MSI had it available has an optional purchase or upgrade? The padding is on the back side where the motherboard presses against the I/O backplate inside the case.
Also, my brand new retail box set did not come with the M-Connectors has shown. Should i contact MSI via support and have then ship a kit to me free?

The padding does nothing useful, other than look nice.
Same goes for the M-Connectors, I don't find them that useful, maybe they would be for people constantly changing mainboards in their case, but the front-panel connectors can still be directly connected to the pin-headers. If you lived in the UK, I'd happily post you mine!

QOSMIO X500-12D - webcam, bluetooth and fingerprint disconnection issues

I still got no solution for this problem. I already did a clean install of Win 7 x64 but still no luck. The devices still keeping disconnecting and I have to reboot to resolve. (this is bad since I normaly using a bluetooth keyboard)
Further this Problem seems not only to occour if system goes 'idle' since my bluetooth keyboard was disconnected during typing. (whatever 'idle' means).
Sometimes I was able to recover at least the Bluetooth connection by turn it off and on again within the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack, sometimes with the HW switch (which also deactivates the WLAN) and sometimes only a reboot helped.
It seems that all three devices (Bluetooth, Webcam, Fingerprintsensor) are connected to the same integrated USB root hub within the system.
After my last test, everything was working before I left the system during a nightly copy operation of a 'few' gig, I come back after ~4 hours and all devices were disconnected (HW not installed) --> I checked in the device manager (see [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/241257] to show devices which are not connected and in the computermanagement right click device manager -> View -> Show hidden devices) all 3 devices shown as 'not connected'.
I already opened a case at support and they told me to update the bios. (when I opened the call the tests were done with the latest bios available)
Nevertheless, I also had a small talk with the support and they told me to restore the system from the recovery DVD's and check if the problem persists after the restore of the 'certified' image (drivers and so on). If it still persists they will do a HW repair. (change mainboard or whatever)
*AGAIN... is there still NO solution out there? I have searched the web and found many people with the same issues. (X500 owners and others)*
_What did i tried:_
- different hotfixes as described at [http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB0402UQ0001R01.htm] and [http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ0402UC0001R01.htm] ([http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978258])
- right now I am using [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981214] since the build numbers of the files are higher than in the hotfix mentioned above and therefor this hotfix should also resolve the problem described in [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978258]. (and I am using an USB audio device)
- I also tried to disable different things of the power management (e.g. disabled usb selective suspending)

It seems that I have found a solution for this problem.
If you have read my first post exactly you should have read that i already disabled the selective USB suspend.
I have connected 2 external USB hubs which are powered by an AC/DC adapter. On this USB hubs I have connected varios USB devices...7.1 USB Headset, external HDD's, PDA, Card Reader, PKI device, USB Sticks, etc.
Nevertheless, I also disabled the the Powermanagement settings on all devices which were involved and where it is possible.
To do this goto the device manager --> right click --> View --> show devices by connection.
Now locate your bluetooth, webcam and fingerprint device. (be carefull names might be different because of different drivers!)
Should be under ACPI x64-based PC --> PCI-Bus --> Intel(R) 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller --> {color:#ff0000}*USB-Root-Hub*{color} --> {color:#ff0000}*Generic USB Hub*{color} -->
There you should find all integrated devices which are troublemaker:
* {color:#ff0000}*AuthenTec Inc. AES2550*{color}
* Bluetooth USB Controller-7 from TOSHIBA
* USB-Webcam
Now double click every device in this 'chain' and locate the powermanagement TAB. (Please note that NOT all devices in this chain do have a powermanagement tab and cannot be configured....that's ok)
On the power management tab uncheck 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' and click OK.
I have done this for all devices which are {color:#ff0000}*marked red in the chain above*{color}. (_I also deactivated the USB selective suspend in the used powermanagement plan!)_
It seems to work now....until now no more bluetooth problem or devices which were gone. It might be that it is enough to disable the Power saving settings only on one or two devices, but right now i had no time to test.
Please also keep in mind that I am using the latest Intel Chipset driver, latest Toshiba drivers and installed the Microsoft hotfixes described in my first post in this thread!
It would be very nice if some people can try and post here if it works!

Story: Bought it 4 months ago. This device spent 1 month in Nokia Care Centre, 3 times.
So many problems.This morning I went to Nokia Care Centre (actually it is official Nokia reseller)to pick up my phone. They told me they changed mainboard so I got new IMEI. "New" phone in old shell. FW:21.0.045 I RESTORED CONTACTS ONLY and installed following apps: Skype, Garmin Mobile XT, Adobe LE, Accuweather. I transferred some music and few photos using USB. I paired my BH103 bluetooth headset with the phone, I connected wired headset so I can listen to the radio. Everything was going OK. When I tried to change the station phone got stuck and there's nothing I can do. I tried task manager, power button...No response from touchscreen. I pulled battery, left it for a minute or two without battery. I tried to turn it on again and "the problem" happened. Same problem that happened so many times: nokia logo and after approx. 45 seconds phone turned off.
Nothing I can do.
Except hard reset, of course. It helps.How many hard or soft resets do I have to perform to make it work? How many formats?
What now?
I am so disappointed in Nokia!

First of all. Many people do not even know where Bosnia is, so the can not be familiar with our "business" customs...
As for many products imported to Bosnia from the rest of the world, Nokia's warranty is a piece of paper that you can throw away when you unbox your phone. Seller gives new warranty conditions and they may include few sentences from Nokia's warranty and that's it. In case you experience some problems you practically canćt do anything except take your device to the "Official Service Centre" and wait...week or weeks, depends how desperate you are.
Replacement phone is what I got yesterday. Same shell with "new main module" as they call it...
More then 24 Hours and 5 master resets! I switched the phone off today and it took 2 hours of "hints" to turn it on again without hard reset. I like this phone because if it works you have almost everything in your pocket, so I bought 2 original replacement batteries in case I need extra power during my mountain bike adventures. Now I just have to find way to switch batteries without switching damn phone off!
Terrible mistake I made when I gave E71 to my brother... Now, he enjoys and I'm desperate with flagship device!

T450s booting problems

I've just received a new Thinkpad T450s [intel Core i5, 4GB ram, 240GB SSD] and it booted alright the first time, but since then every time I try to start it up it instantly gets stuck on the LENOVO screen. No loading symbol, no "to interrupt normal start up etc.". Zilch after that.
If I push the power button, "killing" the laptop and then re-start it instantly it boots just fine.
Any idea if this is a problem I could solve or do I have to get it repaired?

I would try resetting your bios to factory.Or try to see if there is a difference with or without power cable attached. I think it does not has anything to do with your hard drives since the lenovo slpash screen comes if before fully loading the bios and doing disk checks. After that it is reading what is on the disks (whether there is a bootable image or not). Things I would do:1. Reset BIOS to factory.2. Create bootable USB (with linux or something). Boot from the USB to see if this causes same problems.3. Do the same as 2. but remove the SSD inside remove your SSD. (Do this only if you know what your doing!)4. Try a Cpu and memmory check to see if these cause errors.5. As last resort call the support number for your country and tel them your problem. Most likely they will sent an engineer with a spare mainboard. He will check the problem, do a few quick fixes to see if that works, and will change mainboard as last resort. You can even give your work adress as the adress where you want the engineer to come. Thats what I did Good luck, and let the community know how it all ended

Power Saver Problems M30-344 (CPU only uses 600MHz)

Hi!
In my m30-344 are changed mainboard and display.
At this time i can't use the full 1.5ghz of the cpu!
In the Power Saver Profile i can choose only the cpu-rate 1-3! I have now de-installed this tool and reinstalled the version by the net. But i can only use 600mhz!
What can i do?

Just need a little more help on this! I rang up pc world today and they had no idea what i was on about with the micro code. The guy kept saying its because i have no prossessor intensive apps running so it would run at 600mhz, he also said that cpuz is probably reporting the wrong cpu speed.
I know this cannot be the case as in the bios it is set to high which will mean it will run at 1600mhz all the time and not drop to 600mhz. I also ran a game in the background, while raring a 600mb file with 6 ie windows open to no avail just to proove to him that it wasnt goin to 1600! :-)
But he still didnt understand! So i need some light shed on what this micro code buisiness is all about because i have to explain to them exactly what the problem is. I need some info on this by tuesday so i can send it off with the laptop! Any help kindly recieved!

Problem with MSI 865P Neo and G4 Winfast

Hi all,
I bought the mainboard MSI 865P Neo. Have put it into G4 Winfast A280 LE TDH my vivo. And the problem appeared.
When I doing whatever in Win (for example open explorer, mouse rightclick ...) the screen is simply runing over.
Seems like a video card doesn`t handle it or Screen (monitor) is poor but it`s not. The same problem appears also while Windows is installed.
Little note I want to add is my G4 has new Bios setup and on my second card Leadtek G2 MX everything`s ok. It seems for conflict between the mainboard and my v-card. Have you met similar problem ?

On my old mainboard - ABIT ST6R (with G4) everything was ok. I changed mainboard, RAM and P4 and problem has appeared.
MSI supports AGP 8x/4x at 0.8V (AGP 3.0) or 4x at 1.5V (3.3V not supported)
If G4 needs 3.3V (I can't find G4 how much needs) that problem is obvious. I must change mainboard.
Anyone knows how much G4 poverage needs?

My iPhone won't work .... iOS 7.0.4 stuck while restore

My iPhone is not working , i try iTUnes restore but no reason. It stuck into apple logo and installing or restoring iOS. It still show this Logo while it is connected into PC or MAC. If i disconnect my iPhone, it will show circle , like boot ... but still no reason. What can I do ? It still shows Unknown Error 24 while restore.
Any ideas ?

Please help. My friend told me, that i must change battery , it is good idea ? I don't know what can I do. In servis, they told me, that thay must change mainboard complete. But it cost 100€ and i think it's a lot of money, cause used iPhone is cheaper. I think that it isn't good for me, i like that iPhone and i won't to take it away.

How to tune off OTHER computers iTunes match

My Mac mini had been sent to repair recently. When I got the mini back, I turned on iTunes match and it showed me that I already has Five device turned on itunes match. The fact is, besides the Mac mini, I only have 1 MBP and 1 ipad and a apple TV tuned itunes match on.
How can I tune off itunes match of other devices that I can't access(be stolen, missing or changed mainboard)

After careful assessment it appears that there are no improved methods for reliable sharing of Song data with iTunes Match beyond the basic method identified in this thread.
Investigation by beaTunes reached the following conclusion:
Even if beaTunes updated those privileged fields - I don't think that guarantees that all other fields are also synced.
Sounds to me like iTunes Match is fundamentally flawed :-("
It would be very helpful if Apple would allow users of iTunes Match and 3rd party developers to signal when Song data has been updates such that iTunes Match can ensure Songs across the (up to) 10 devices are synchronised.
Until such time, only adding Songs with iTunes Match off, updating Song data as needed prior to switching iTunes Match on seems the pragmatic route forward. For Songs otherwise imported they need to be removed and re-added in this style to yield consistent Song data.

Set FSB higher than 100Mhz?

I have a msi 6533 (sis 645) board
i have been useing a celeron 2.6 Ghz processor the last 3 month and it has run fine.
26*100Mhz
now i have gotten 2 different processors
1. P4 2.4 Ghz with hypertreading
2. p4 2.55Ghz
if i use the 2.4Ghz processor my system tells me that i run 1200Mhz 12*100
i suppose it should be 12*200Mhz.
if i use the 2.55Ghz processor my system informs me that i run 1900Mhz 19*100
i suppose it should have been 19*133
But how do i change the FSB?
ive tried 5 different bios and only 1 had the option to do so. but 100Mhz was the only choice?

Hi Harlem,
The mainboard was designed before CPU's were released and there are certain mainboard limits.......
Being able too use a CPU not suitable for mainboard shows you have brought wisely and that the cpu is allowing you to "back" clock to a lower FSB....
If you would like to run CPUs at full, change mainboard.

VM ware Fusion

My Fusion doesn't work with Mountain Lion. Any suggestions?

Might work, but I think at first boot into that Windows it will finds lots of 'new Hardware' and tries to install the needed drivers.
While this can go well, my personal experience of doing this (with a PC on which I had changed mainboard etc.) ended with a total crash.
But when you have nothing to lose (good backup) give it a try.

T430s 2356GCG Fingerprint & SSD problem

Hi, I have a problem with
1) Intel 520 SSD firmware LE1i - I can not upgrade the new firmware 400i - IBM toolbox & boot disk gives the message does not need to uprade a disk has hung up(30-60s).
2) fingerprint reader stopped working and does not authorize the BIOS and Windows 7 sees
a) Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)
To fix the problem, reconnect the device to the computer.
b) This device is working properly ..
and fingerprint software showing error can not enroll user E72100005, E72100005 can not update passport, E72100005 can not find fingerprint devices. Any ideas?

Normally, this message is displayed because the CPU got too HOT! Make sure your cooling is adequate and use thermal paste between the cooler and CPU. Make sure your CPU cooler is seated fully...remove the mainboard, check the locking tabs for the cooler, usually 1 or 2 are not fully seated. The best method to install the cooler is with the mainboard out of the case. Also, download a temperature monitoring program to keep an eye on your CPU and GPU temperatures.
