Changing many effects a time on a track

I use a generator effect to insert gun fires in a shooting scene.
I have 200 of them. Each of them is well positioned.
Every weapon is on a separate video track.
Now, I want to change the color of this effect for the whole track.
I thought I could copy the attributes, but it does not work.
I cannot copy the effect parameters!
Is there a function in FCP for this I have overseen or do I have to
edit the XML file of my sequence?
Thanks for any help.

What do you mean a "generator effect"? a color matte? If so you'll have to change the color one by one I think... or you might be able to copy and paste attributes of everything but the color, replacing the color after you've copied the original. Then paste the attributes you've copied earlier to the new color matte.

Playback speed in Sample Editor window many, many times faster than track (at correct speed) in arrange area. How do I sync Sample Editor playback speed to correct speed/tempo in arrange area? Track is spoken word. Sample Editor playback sounds like Alvin on a meth binge. Spoken phrase is generated from Textspeech. Textspeech can export files as WAV files or MP3 files. Perhaps a clue?:   When exported Textspeech WAV file is dragged and dropped into track in arrange area of new project, it exhibits same supersonic speed. When Textspeech file is exported as MP3 file and dragged and dropped in arrange area track, it plays at correct speed.

    Thanks Erik,
If nothing else, this huge list of updates and fixes, shows clearly that the Logic Dev team is working hard on fixing and improving LPX to a major degree.... and from the list of fixes done.. show they do read the bug reports submitted!
    As an aside....
I recall how all the 'naysayers' prior to LPX (and in some cases, since...)  were proclaiming how Logic was dead, the team was being disbanded, we won't see any further development, the Dev team doesn't listen or care... and so on....... I wonder where those people are now?

  • How many effects can you put on each track? and best reverb and chorus fx??

    Hi,
I was wondering how many effects you can truly put on each track.
i tracked vocals last night and could only put two inserts in there. Is that all?
so if i want to eq my voice and add verb or eq my voice and add chorus, i can't even think of adding anything else???
also, what are the best reverbs and chorus effects to use that give your voice that professional sound that they have in R&B songs??

i tracked vocals last night and could only put two inserts in there. Is that all?
As you add a second plug-in, a third slot becomes available. Add a third plug-in, a fourth becomes available, etc...
also, what are the best reverbs and chorus effects to use that give your voice that professional sound that they have in R&B songs??
That "professional" sound (depending on what you're listening to) is the singer.
Yes, there are FX that enhance it, but a plain, non-effected vocal will sound professional if the singer is good.
If you're feeling like you have to add EQ, reverb, chorus, etc to sound "professional"... than the singing isn't good. Trust me on this one.
Aside from a good singer, having a quality microphone and pre-amp is a good place to start, gear-wise. Follow that up with a good hardware compressor, maybe EQ, and THAT alone should sound like a million bucks if the singer is the real deal.
Don't underestimate the importance of compression, when used correctly. This will even out the volume of the vocal, and bring it forward, making it seem more intimate.
Chorus is rarely a flattering effect, unless it's used very subtly, or an obvious "effected" sound is desired.
And a little bit of reverb can go a LONG way. A "smidge" of any of Logic's Space Designer vocal presets will do just fine.

  • My laptop died last night and the date and time was set for 1/1/2000. I went to change the date and time and cannot. For some reason when i pull up system preferences it will not load date and time but will load other stuff. Please help.

Last night my laptop died and the time and date was reset. I cannot acess date and time preferences to change it and my laptop is acting really weird. My CD drive is broken so there are no options to put in a cd. Please someone help i need my laptop for school and cannot afford another.

Many system actions will misbehave, given an inaccurate date. Resetting the NVRAM and / or SMC will not fix it, and if the system has a preposterous date you may not be able to open System Preferences to correct it. This dilemma may or may not be addressed in a future OS X update.
If you cannot open System Preferences you can reset your system date and time using Terminal.
Please read everything that follows before proceeding. Write them down if necessary because the effects of setting a preposterous system date are unpredictable.
Quit System Preferences, force quit if necessary: OS X: How to quit an unresponsive application using Force Quit
Open Terminal - it is in your Utilities folder and looks like this
You can find Terminal by using the Finder's Go menu and choosing Utilities, then double-click the Terminal icon.
At the prompt, you will be typing a command resembling the following:
    sudo date mmddhhnnyyyy
... but you must substitute the actual date and time in the command that corresponds to the date format used for your location. In other words if your custom is to use a date like 8 February 2014 then reverse the mm and dd values.
Substitute numerals in the above command according to the following:
    mm = month
    dd = date
hh = hour (24 hour format)
nn = minutes past the hour
    yyyy = year
Each of those values must be two digits except for the year which can be two or four digits. As an example if the current date and time is February 8, 2014 at 9 PM your command will be the following:
    sudo date 020821002014
    or
    sudo date 0208210014
Either one will work. If you enter nonsensical values the system will attempt to parse the entry correctly.
To recover from your inability to use System Preferences to set the date and time, the value entered does not have to be precise, it just has to be approximate.
Enter that command using the actual time and date for your location and in the appropriate format, then press the Return key. Terminal will ask for your Admin Password - the same one you use when you log in to your Mac. Type it and then press the Return key. What you type will not appear, not even with •••• characters.
To determine if your change was effective just type the date command and press the Return key. Terminal will reply with the date and time. If it appears correct and in the correct format, you should be able to open System Preferences > Date & Time once again. Selecting the "Set time and date automatically" and choosing an appropriate time server will adjust your Mac's system clock to the precise time.

  • Changing a Filter Over Time

I've had a lot of trouble with this. I'm trying to change a filter over time (i.e. make a voice get more reverberative as it continues). I've had a little luck with some filters--some of the options for the filter show up on the envelope line so I can set key frames, but more often than not, nothing shows up there at all, or what does show up there is not the option I want to change.
For example, say I want to change pitch over time. The only option that shows up that I can set key frames for is the delay rather than the pitch.
I know I'm missing something simple here.

So, I take it that you're in STP, working on a multi-track project.
In the lower left on the effects tab, go to the correct track/effect you want to change, and click the disclosure triangle to show all of the parameters. Check the box to the right of each parameter you want to change over time, and it will be added to the available envelopes.
    Hope this helps!

Some progess I see. To be honest, i would not waste your time with trying to connect using wireless.
You are likely to get poor connections and dropping out.
If its working using a cable, then there is no need to bother with giving me the network settings, bu see how it goes, because sometimes giving the TV a static IP address can give better results.
There is an example of a couple of powerline adapters on the diagram below. Just ignore the network switch unless you want to connect other devices which are near to the TV.

  • In  iTunes: why different run times for same track?

I have occasional repeats of the same given track stored in iTunes. Sometimes, the 2 identical tracks show different running times. This happens when one track came from the Net (downloaded before I started using iTunes, then imported into iTunes) and the other comes from a commercial CD. Do you know why the differing times? FYI: In each case, I have checked the endings of both tracks; they are identical, so the music is the same even though one track is rated to run [much] longer than the other. Also, in "Get Info" there's a way to change the running time of a track, but this is no solution: if I enter a shorter run time, the track will truncate itself, and finish playing before the proper end of the song -- if I enter a longer time, I get dead air after the end of the recording. Any ideas?

"will iphone users in Singapore have access to application from other countries? "
No. You can buy from the itunes store in the country in which you reside.
Each country has the same rules:
"SINGAPORE ONLY. The Service is available to you only in Singapore and is not available in any other location. You agree not to use or attempt to use the Service from outside of the available territory. iTunes may use technologies to verify such compliance."

  • ITunes added extra time to a track

iTunes added extra time to a track after transferring the song from my computer.  What do I do to to transfer the song correctly and remove the extra (several minutes) of dead air that iTunes added to the end of the track?

    Well....
First of all, let me confirm exactly what you are doing.
I notice you say iTunes is not recognising the change. So when you play the song in iTunes, it does not stop at the new time you've entered, is this correct? Or
is it playing okay in iTunes, but not on your iPod? If this is what's happening, you have Synced your iPod after the change, haven't you? (Any changes you make in iTunes while the iPod is connected to iTunes will almost certainly not be activated on the iPod until you do another Sync.)
(If you manually manage the music on your iPod, you will need to remove the track from the iPod and then put it back on again. Putting it back on should cause the newly revised stop time to be on your iPod.)
So if your stop time is shown (in iTunes) as 2:52, but the track is not stopping at that time - in iTunes - then I suggest you do a repair of iTunes. To repair iTunes, download iTunes and go through the instal procedure. (Do not delete or remove the existing iTunes.) Once the instal procedure sees the existing iTunes, you should see an option to either repair or start new, choose the repair option.
I've had to use the repair iTunes option myself, a few weeks ago, and it fixed the issue I was having. Can't remember what the issue was though!
Finally, if the track plays okay in iTunes but not on the iPod after a new Sync, the only thing I can suggest is a Restore of your iPod. This will remove everything from the iPod and the next Sync put back what it finds in your library. If you manually manage, you will need to put everything back on yourself.

  • Change which old backups Time Machine keeps

Any body know how to change what older backups Time Machine keeps?  I know how to change how frequently Time Machine backs up (sudo defaults write /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.backupd-auto StartInterval -int XXXX),
but what I want is for it to not save so many recent backups and keep more of the old ones.  Right now it saves hourly backups for the last 24 hours, daily for the last month, and weekly for each month until you run out of space.  I don't need all the daily stuff, and would really like to keep more of the monthly.  The older the info, the harder it is to recover by other means.  What I'd like to do is keep older backups and lose more of the intermediate ones.
    Any ideas?

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Post the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — edit that out, too, but don’t remove the context.

  • HT1386 i have an extensive music library on my itunes from 100 years ago.  since then, my email address, etc. have changed at least 3 times.  i am not able to sync my iphone with my itunes - shows no music on my phone.  don't want to have to re-purchase m

I have a current (extensive) itunes library established years ago with an ipod classic.  My email address, etc. has changed many times since then and I am not able to sync my music from my itunes to my iphone 5c.  I'm sure it's due to a different email address/apple ID.  How can I get them to sync so as not to have to re-purchase all of my music and podcasts?

The extensive itunes libary that was on an ipod classic likely as not came from an itunes library. The music that is on the itunes library will sync to an iphone once the iphone has been authorized through the itunes store. If it is as you say that all this music came from an 'itunes library' then there should not be an issue syncing this music to an alternate device.
If on the other hand this music came from multiple itunes libraries. It will then be a matter of logging in with each apple id login which was used when purchasing the songs to then re-downloading the songs to that specific apple id login. Once you have purchase music from the itunes store using an apple id login the music then follows the apple id virtually indefinately.

  • Font information changed, may effect document?

When I used Print Setup to print the Book for my Structured Document, after selecting the "PDF Printer" I get a message saying "The font information for your computer has changed. This change may effect the format and output of your document".  How can I consolidate the font information so it doesn't change and I'm using the same font information to design my documents?

FM also uses any available printer fonts, so switching to the AdobePDF gives you a very limited selection. Usually, the issue is with Times vs TimesNewRoman and this is effectiveely transparent.
To ensure that you dont' have this happening, it's best to always have the AdobePDF as the default printer when using FM. The Sundorne SetPrint utility (http://sundorne.com/FrameMaker/Freeware/setPrint.htm ) does this automatically for you and is highly recommended.

  • Changing the OS local time while the database is Up and Running

    Hi,
Will there be any bad effect if I change the OS local time of my servers while the database and application is up and running?
Why do I need to do this? because the database is RAC configured and I want to avoid "brain-split" because of discrepancies
in the local time of DB Servers.
NTP is not yet implemented so I am to adjust the time manually for each servers.
BTW, I am using database 10gR2 (10.2.0.4) and EBS application (11.5.10.2). My nodes are running in Linux 4, 2.6.9-42ELsmp x86_64.
    Regards,
    Jay A

But my very concern right now is if there will be negative effect on the data or timestamp in the datafiles of the database
because I change the local time of the server while the database is running.Change time, that make time in database is changed. and you are changing time at milliseconds. you won't see affect.
we should worry different time between servers more than time changing
you can use ntpdate to query time different from server before.

  • Modifying a CD track's stop time affects other tracks on the disc

Previous topic locked. Bug still present with iTunes 7.3.
    <hr>
I've reported this same bug via the feedback form for a number of versions of iTunes, I believe going back to version 3 or 4, but here it is again for the pile.
Setting a custom stop time for an individual track on a CD (track -> Get Info -> Options -> Stop Time) affects other tracks on the CD in addition to the one being modified.
For example, if you set one track to end at 2:30, ALL tracks prior to and including that track will now end at 2:30. If one of those tracks is actually 2:10 long, it will play in its entirety and the track immediately following will play for 20 seconds before it ends and goes on to the next track. Tracks after the modified track are unaffected (unless the track being edited is the last track on the CD, in which case ALL tracks on the CD are affected).
I would like to set stop times before ripping CDs to remove dead space commonly added to pad out "hidden" tracks, but this long (long, long, long) standing bug makes this nearly impossible.
    Quicksilver dual-1.2GHz G4, 1.83 Core Duo mini, 60GB 5G iPod, 8GB iPhone   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Adjusting start and stop times is a feature for
playback of files in iTunes, not for CD ripping. Even
if the program allows you to modify these values for
an audio CD prior to importing it, it still is not a
reliable way of ripping a CD.
Yes, but there's a difference between "may not be frame-accurate when playing/ripping" and "will radically affect tracks other than the one edited when playing/ripping".
Instead of using your current work process, why not
just rip the CD in a lossless format such as Apple
Lossless, then adjust the start/stop times of the
desired tracks in iTunes and convert the files to
another format. There will be no loss in sound
quality in this case, and your problem should be
    solved.
I could also buy Fission to losslessly edit the ripped mp3. But for such a basic task (that worked from SoundJam through at least iTunes 3) it would be nice to handle it during the rip instead of going through multiple steps (currently, I rip all tracks but the one that needs editing, then change the start/stop times for that one and rip it on its own).
I ended up filing a bug report, which is what I should have done originally.

The manual showed you the area to make changes in. As I stated earlier, it has to do with Regional formats. Just like some regions use the period between dates as well. The same is true for dates. In the US, we normally would show today's date as January 10, 2015. In many European countries, it would be 10 January 2015. The same is true for time. We generally use 12-hour format, many places use 24-hour format. How it is displayed on the phone is based on the generally accepted method for the region. If on the phone you go to Settings>General>Language & Region, you can see your regional format settings. If you go under Region Formats, tap on Advanced. That gives you the option to make some other changes if you like, rather than using the regional standards.
