Is the new option to change the master filename only available on import? I can't seem to find a command to do it once images are within Aperture (library or referenced).
I usually import images from an assignment. Edit them and then batch rename so that the client gets a coherently named group of images with no gaps. If the actual renaming of the master filenames is only upon import then it would be less useful since the edit is not done at that point.
Also, when I move select images to the external editor I'd like to retain the same file name not revert to a different file name which is what happens when the version name and the master filename differ.

Master Filenames

The master filenames on my image imports from my Nikon D70 into Aperture have suddenly changed in format from DSC_#### to _DSC####. The underscore is now leading the filename instead of linking the prefix to the sequence number. I'm not sure how to fix this. Has anyone experienced this or a similar situation? Have you changed the default colour profile in your camera? I can't remember the details (look in your manual under profiles - or something like that). If the camera is set to, I think, sRGB, it'll prefix the underscore.

ITunes library on server, want to change "master" computer

I have a Windows machine and a Mac which I just recently got. I also have a Windows Home Server, which is where all of my music is stored.
Currently, I have the Windows machine set up as my "master", the iTunes library is pointed to the server, and it is set to automatically organize the library. I also sync my iPod to this machine. I also use iTunes on the Mac, but it is basically set to read only, it does not organize files or anything like that. Whenever I add new music from the Windows machine, I have to go and add the folder on the Mac to stay current.
What I would like to do is start using my Mac as the "master" computer. The library itself shouldn't move, but I want my Mac to control organization and to sync my iPod. I have a large library and spent a lot of time downloading missed artwork, so I would be upset if I had to rebuild my library in this process.
Would this be as simple as turning off folder organization on my Windows machine and turning it on on the Mac? Or should I export the library from the Windows machine and import it on the Mac? Any suggestions are appreciated.

iTunes does not really have the concept of a "master"; that is entirely in how you use it. If you have two libraries sharing the same content files, you can start treating one as the master (as you have been doing).
I'd suggest you turn off "Keep... Organized" on both machines. If one changes a filename or folder, which is what Keep does, the other will lose track of the file. I'd be surprised if this is not already happening in your current setup.
Regarding "Whenever I add new music from the Windows machine, I have to go and add the folder on the Mac to stay current," that will work. But, you can automate the process by running a program like iTunes Folder Watch on your "secondary" machine. It will detect when there is something new in the folder, and will add it to its library.
As far as your iPod knows, the two libraries have nothing to do with each other. So, as you already know, you should pick one to be the one to sync the iPod and stick with it.

Problem in Creation of Change Master Record in CC01 (ECM)

me got a problem. whenever i create a Change Master Record using the transactuion code cc01, Change Master is generated but it is not updated to the database and instead throws up a dump error.

its due to the number ranges that is specified in the partner determination ... chech what is the number range assigned in the parner determination ,,, so once u check that u have to manually enter the number between that range only .. this should solve ur problem...
path to check the number range is as below :
spro-img-logistic generalbusiness partner-customers---define account groups and field selection ---
at this point click position button at the bottom and give ur account group .. select ur account group and click detail button .. now inside that u can see the specified number range .. dafault is 08 ( means u can specify between 400000 to 499999)..
and some times u may not have defined number range... check urs and create accordingly ... this should solve ur problem...

I am trying to create a master password on a new machine, but all I get when I hit enter is this message: "Unable to change Master Password".

Pretty much as per the question, when I try and set up a master password, the error message says "Unable to change Master Password". There isn't one to start with, so I'm just wanting to set one for the first time.

Did you copy any files from another computer to the profile folder on that new computer?
Do you already have saved passwords?
*Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"
If you haven't then try to delete the key3.db file and possibly logins.json and signons.sqlite in the Firefox profile folder.
Note that all saved passwords are lost when you delete these files.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

ECM: Change Master Record in Production Order

Hi
I have created a Change Master Record and made change to the BOM with respect to that change master record.
Now I want the Change master record (Eg. 001) to be visible in the production order (Master Data tab) when the production order is created.
Also, I would like to know if I can change the change master record (to say, 002) in the Production order so that the BOM with respect to that particular Change master record is selected.

Hi Jack
I think at the time of creating Change master record u haven't maintained the Object types.
In that View u have to maintain Tick at the check box of Actv., Object & MgtRec of Object types-- Bill Of Material & Task List.
This will resolve your problem of Change Master Record Display at the time of Production order Creation at View of Master Data.

Changing the filename in Photoshop Action

Hello,
I couldn't find any tips with regards to how to use a "syntax" to rename the file just before "saving as" or "saving for web" options in PS.
To understand what I'm trying to achieve, please let me describe the case on the example below:
I have the file "picture.jpg" (1024x768)
What I'm trying to do is:
- Resize the image down to size 800x600
- Save it in the same folder using "save for web" as "picture_large.jpg"
- Resize the image again, this time down to size 600x480
- Save it in the same folder using "save for web" as "picture_medium.jpg"
So after the first step in my action I need to add the suffix "_large" and after the third step I need to add the suffix "_medium".
Is it possible?

Thanks for your repllies, unfortunately I can't achieve the 100% result using your suggesitions (I learnet a bit anyway ).
- When using slices, I'd have to rename slice everytime I resize the picture as I need diferent suffix for every image size.
- Suggestion to use "Save as" instead "Save for web" doesn't resolve my problem either, as what I'm trying to achieve is to store one image with all the diferent image sizes in one folder.
I guess perfect solution would be if I could change the filename using some syntax which could look like:
change current file name from [name] to [name]+"_medium"
But I believe this is not possible.
Thanks very much anyway and of course if there are any other suggestions I'll be happy if someone could help.

How do I change a filename in Pages when the "save as" option doesn't appear?

How do I change a filename for a Word doc that I imported into Pages? The "save as" option doesn't appear and Pages assigns my documents arbitrary filenames and puts them in odd places like templates.

Trying to link large file to email. keep getting asked for master pw to security device. I have changed master pw on firefox and TB but still same response.

I have tried over and over to send this large file. I've never synced before so i got that all set up. Then asking for master passwork to security device. Don't think I had ever set up an account so did that and created password. When trying to send the email I ask to link it goes to 'box' and I authorize thunderbird to use use it. then it ask for master password and I type that in and it doesn't work. I have reset master pw for firefox and thunderbird and still can't get it to work. I really don't know what I am doing here so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It contained some information about what to do if TB keeps asking for a 'Master Password' which was never set. This was an old bug that was resolved years ago, so it is surprising you are getting it assuming the Thunderbird Master Password was never set.
However, your comments are confusing because they are conflicting; in your question you say:

This implies you set a master password in Thunderbird and changed it, but in last comment you say you never defined it:

I'm not sure what you mean by 'I have used the Firefox direction' - perhaps you mean the link I gave. As of course we are not talking about firefox :)
So, at this point, it is hard to know what you did because you are posting conflicting information.

At no point does it say uninstall Mozilla Thunderbird program, so I do not know why you would do it. Uninstalling the Program has nothing to do with your Profile for very obvious reasons.

The AppData folder is folder is a hidden folder; to show hidden folders, open a Windows Explorer window and choose "Organize → Folder and Search Options → Folder Options → View (tab) → Show hidden files and folders".
Assuming your Profile was stored in the default place, it can be located here:
* C:\Users\Windows user name\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\Profile name\
Thunderbird must be closed before doing anything in the Profile folders.
If you have since reinstalled Thunderbird, you can also use it to get quick access to your Profile folders.
In Thunderbird
* Help > Troubleshooting Information
* click on 'show folder' button
* '''Close/Exit Thunderbird - this is important'''
* Look for and delete this file : '''key3.db''' file.

How to delete an object from a change master?

I have a situation where a PDM has copied a route (task list) that was tied to a change master and brought it over by mistake, the route was also copied to the wrong group number and counter. What I want to do is have the route deleted and recreated with it's own group number and counter 1, however because it is linked to a change master it keeps pulling in that same group number. Any idea how to correct this or remove the material from the change master, we've tried to delete the object but get the message that not all objects were deleted and it is still there.

Sounds like some strange shortcut key conflict.
The first thing to try is Deleting Corrupted Cache in DW. Be sure hidden files & folders are enabled in Windows Explorer.

Extracting changes from Change Master and importing to another BOM

Dear All,
Our client uses ECM and manages two BOM's the Engineering BOM and Production BOM.
The Engineering BOM s are changed through change number. We need to import these changes to the production BOM, (only the changes) through another change number
This means,
We have the Engineering BOM (No plant, usage 2) and Production BOM (Plant BOM with usage 1)with the same structure (BOM header is Z)
Header : Z
Position 1 :A Qty 1
Postion 2 : B Qty 1
Both initially had components A and B, each with Qty 1.
Now with a change number, the Engineering BOM is changed, a new component C is added, the quantity of A is revised to 2.
Now the Engineering BOM is
Header : Z, Plant ( blank) and Usgae 2
Position 1 :A Qty 2
Postion 2 : B Qty 1
Position 3 : C Oty 1
Our requirement is to extract the changes from the Change master, ie, the extract should say BOM header Z is changed,
New position 3 : C Qty 1,
Modified Position 1, Qty 2.
This should have only the changed information and we want to input this to the Production BOM, through another change number to change the Production BOM.
We want this process to be automated, in the sense, user enters the Production BOM header, Plant and usgae 1 and the new change number, then the BOM will be updated with the changes in the engineering BOM.
My Questions are
1- How to get an extract from the Change master with only the changes file, to a txt or xml or any format?
2- Apart from manually updating the Prodcution BOM by seeing the changes from Environment ->Reporting ->BOM changes of the Change master of the Engineering BOM, is there any other way to update the Production BOM only with the changes?
3- Ideally we want to import the changes to the Production BOM rather than deleting the items and again copying from Engineering BOM. What is best practice used in this scenario?
Any suggestions would be helpful

Got ur point.. This is of course possible.. Practicallyboth the BOM's are not exactly identical. Tere is one more BOM apart from the Production BOM.
And there is a need to transfer the changes ( changes alone ) between BOM's.
Further more, there are interface from SAP to other systems, where they alos requires the BOM changes.. So the requirement arises, how to transfer the changes between BOM and also to other systems from SAP.,
If we do not have any interface from legacy PDM, how to extract the changes from the change master?
What is the general practise followed?

I tried resetting my Master Password using "chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul", but when I click on "Change Master Password" it asks for my CURRENT password. I don't have a current password, because I don't remember it and am trying to reset it!

Using FF 4.01 for laptops & desktops, Windows XP 2002 SP3. I used "chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul" to reset the Master Password. Then went to Tools/Options/Security, clicked on "Change Master Password". BUT it asks for my CURRENT password and new password. I don't know my current password. Is there a default Master Password that I need to input as the Current password?

If you still have a Master Password set then it looks that resetting the MP hasn't worked.
If using the chrome url (chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul) doesn't work then delete the files [http://kb.mozillazine.org/key3.db key3.db] and signons.sqlite in the Firefox profile folder.

You need to set a new Master Password after renaming or deleting key3.db and all currently saved passwords are lost.

Thumbnails & Preview filenames do not match Master filename

Hi - can't find any threads regarding this...
Basic problem is that Aperture is not renaming the Preview & Thumbnail filenames when it renames images on import - anyone else experiencing this problem?
I have a managed Aperture Library (2.1.3). I rename my image files on import using the Import dialogue set to Custom Name & Counter and Apply to Master filename checked. However the Preview file, the Thumbnail file and the Finder folder holding the images do not get renamed.
Since the Media Browser uses the Preview files rather than the Master files when importing images into other apps (eg. Pages or uploading to a blog) the files used all have the wrong names.
For Instance:
I have a canon image file named IMG1234.JPG.
I import this file to Aperture and use the import dialogue to rename to Custom Name SUNSETNEVADA.JPG (with apply to Master Filename checked).
In Aperture what I see in my project is SUNSETNEVADA.JPG as the Version Name and the Master filename - as expected.
However the Thumbnail & Preview files are still called IMG1234.JPG - you can't see this directly from within Aperture you need to open Finder and drill down thru the Library package where you find that your Master file is called SUNSETNEVADA.JPG but it lives in a folder called IMG1234.JPG with a Thumbnail file called IMG1234.JPG and a Preview file called IMG1234.JPG.
I then open Pages and open the Media Browser.
I select Photos, and then my Aperture library, find my project and select SUNSETNEVADA.JPG.
The file that gets imported into Pages is the preview file called IMG1234.JPG.
The same happens in any situation where I use the Media Browser to browse the Apertuer library and import images, because the Media Browser always uses the Preview file.
The only work around I have is to export images directly from Aperture and then browse the Finder to import them to other apps - avoiding the Media Browser and Preview files altogether.
I have notified Apple Pro Support who claimed to be unaware of this error.
If you have seen the same problem please notify Apple Support.
