Changing memory modules in Satellite M30X-165

The Notebook has two memory modules with 512 MB each module. I have received a used 1 GB module.
Can I remove one of the 512 MB modules and install the 1 GB module to get total 1,5 GB RAM or need both modules the same memory size?

According notebook specification you can upgrade your machine up to 2GB of RAM so you can use one 1GB RAM and one module with 512MB. Important is that you use 100% compatible memory modules.
Just for your info: compatible PC2700 1GB memory module has part number PA3313U-1M1G.
Make upgrade, test it and post some feedback.

I found something like this: http://www.shop-com.co.uk/Toshiba_2GB_PC2_DDR2_Memory-44398202-59442999-p!.shtml
This is memory for my laptop but it is too expensive!!! Is this only way to upgrade my memory in laptop or can I use other items but based on 667 Mhz, can i use dual channel? How it can be?

    Hi
    I found this site:
    http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=30725&ft=m&st=3
    The 2GB DDR2 667MHz (PC2-5300) costs about 81.
You have to use the PC2-5300 but its no matter what manufacture it is.
Some no-names modules are not so expensive but the performance is not good.
Anyway, these modules are from Kingston and as far as I know these modules are not bad.

    Hello,
I´m pretty lucky with my Satellite M30-344 but since 2 months the cooler starts to get louder every day. Is it possible to change the cooler on my own and how expansive is the original cooler? Do you know something like a tutorial for the changing process?

    Thank you for your help!

    Hi
The replacement of the internal devices is not easy and a little bit risky.
I would not recommend replacing the cooling module yourself.
You could damage something on the board and as you know the motherboard is a one of the expensive parts of the notebook. The manuals are not published because such documents are only for the technicians and service partners.
Therefore I think you should ask a service partner for the help because these guys have more experience in such procedures.
I found a online site with the memory modules for Satellite M30-344
    http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=6958&ft=m&st=3
It says that its possible to update the memory to max 2GB. Therefore I Think its possible to use 2x 1024MB module.

  • Memory expansion on Satellite 2410

    Hi
I am planning to expand the memory of my Satellite 2410-601. It has 256 MB DDR at present. I am planning on using one more 256 memory module to expand the total memory to 512 MB.
What I would like to know is whether I can use any of the DDR memory modules available in market? Would there be any compatibility issues?

    Hi
    Do you know this site?

Here you can find the details about compatible memory modules for Satellite 2410-601.
It seems that the notebook is able to handle the 200-Pin PC2100 (266MHz) DDR SODIMM memory modules!!!
You could upgrade the memory up to max 1GB (2x 512MB)
    >Would there be any compatibility issues?
Generally you shouldnt have any compatibility issues. Its only important that you use the supported modules.

  • No Bios Update for Satellite: L755D-S5204 / Inability to change Memory Settings in Bios

Ok so I bought two new 8GB of BLUE Kingston Hyperx 1600 MHZ Memory Modules with heat spreaders recently from newegg.
I installed them, and my system recognizes the full 8 GB, but when running CPU-Z the memory MHZ is registering in at 665.5 MHZ.
I want to be able to run my Memory at least the STANDARD minimum 1333 MHZ if not be able to change the MHZ if possible to 1600 MHZ.  I CANNOT DO THIS WITH THE BIOS THAT CAME WITH MY SYSTEM, AND I CANNOT FIND A BIOS UPDATE ANYWHERE ON THE TOSHIBA SITE THAT WILL LET ME DO THIS.
My system Laptop Satellite L755D-S5204 has the basic Bios that came with the system.  However I do not know or CAN NOT FIND any flash updates to update the bios so I can change these setting.
My question to Toshiba Tech support is it possible to clock my system memory higher, and how do I do this with a BIOS that doesn't let me make any changes to my Voltage to my Memory, and doesn't let me make any changes to system memory or memory timing settings??
When you figure that out and if you could possibly help me resolve this problem, please email me because as a computer technician I am really intrigued as to the reason why Toshiba doesn't have a FLASH BIOS UPDATE that will let you change the Memory settings, and Memory Timings!!
    Thanks,
    Michael Richins
    Comptia A+ Computer Technician

BIOS does not provide such option!
I have no idea what graphic card you have but for example the Sat P850-138 was equipped with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M graphic card.
This GPU supports dedicated VRAM (default 2048MB)
The available graphics memory can be expanded using system memory, through TurboCache
In case the system memory would be expanded to 6GB RAM, the TurboCache technology could use up to 4,095 MB VRAM

It must be PA3513U-1M2G. You must check if this module is compatible with your notebook model. I think so.
Anyway I recommend you to buy high quality product like Kingston modules.

  • Memory modules and hard drive not recognized

I removed and reinserted the factory installed Satellite L505D-LS5007 laptop hard drive and memory modules just as practice for installing a hard drive upgrade and an 8GB memory upgrade. The problem is obviously with the memory and not with the hard drive.
After the first practice try, one memory module was recognized. Also for a few seconds after the first practice try, I ran the PC with the battery installed, but no memory installed. I did not look in the User's Guide first to see that I should have removed the battery before removing the memory.
Now the System Indicator Lights for the HDD Activity and Memory Card Reader do not light up. The PC turns on and the display is solid black with no messages.
Before buying new memory modules, what possible ways might there be to get the PC to recognize the factory installed memory modules and hard drive again?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

When troubleshooting, I always change one variable at a time. I would hate to miss a solution by being in a hurry. In this case, you may have damaged either the RAM or the RAM slot. I would stick with the Toshiba specifications for the RAM, making sure it is the correct size, speed and type recommended. I also recommend that when you replace the RAM that both modules be from the same manufacturer, size, and specification. Try one RAM module in one slot and then the other. And then try both RAM modules in both slots. After the testing you should be able to figure if this is a RAM problem or a RAM slot problem.
In the case of hard drives, the real test is whether or not the Bios sees the hard drive. If the Bios doesn't see the hard drive, it's not going to work. The Bios should see the hard drive whether or not the hard drive is partitioned, formatted or has data on it. My experience has been that many Toshiba laptops will work fine with larger capacity hard drives provided they are the same speed in RPMs, have the same interfacing connection and physically the same size.
Again, prior to doing any work on your computer, make sure that both the AC power has been disconnected and the battery has been removed. Be careful out there. A blown repair job by a non-Toshiba tech is NOT covered under warranty.

  • Memory upgrade on Satellite Pro L40-15d

    Hi
I have Satellite Pro L40-15d with 512 memory (Samsung) but I wont upgrade to 1GB. I have Kingston ktt667d2/1g I have tray to put in to both slots but nothing work I cant switch on computer.
But when I change for old one laptop is ok. What can I do? Install special program or update BIOS or maybe the memory stick is broken.
    Regards

    Hi
    The notebook doesnt boot after the memory upgrade due to these different issues;
    - memory modules are not compatible together
    - memory modules are not compatible with the notebook
    - memory modules are faulty
    - one of memory slots is faulty
In most case the memory module replacement helps.
One hint; did you try to switch the memory modules in the slots? Sometimes this helps.
Several weeks ago I have updated my memory and the notebook didnt boot.
I thought its a memory malfunction but after module switching the notebook booted correctly.
    Good luck

  • How to connect a video capture device to Satellite M30X 127

I'm going around in circles trying to find a video capture device that will function with a laptop and would be grateful for advice. By way of example, I'm now looking at the 'Canopus ADVC-110', although still looking around (but not Pinnacle, who seem to have a terrible reputation for capture items).
    Problems include:
    1. Main problem is - many video capture external devices require a 'line-in' to PC for good quality audio transfer. This laptop doesn't have a line in, only the mike and headphone jacks. In addition, I've also tried a few RCA pins in the 3.5mm microphone/headphones jack and they were too small. How to solve the problem of getting audio from vcr to my PC?
    2. The ADVC-110 connects to the PC via Firewire (and S-video), but is a SIX-pin type. M30X is a FOUR-pin type. Are there adapters available?
    3. Some capture programmes seem to require huge capacity of RAM. Is a laptop going to be suitable to do the job? (I simply want to capture old vhs tapes from vcr to PC, then burn to DVD with Nero 7 or similar).
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello
You are right! You must use external device for signal transfer to your notebook. I dont know where you have this info but I have good experiences with Pinnacle product. For data transfer I have used USB port.
'Canopus ADVC-110 is not known to me but I dont see any reason why this should not work well. Use delivered software for video capturing and there should not be any problem.
Only thing is that after recording the whole video material must be prepared for burning and unit need a lot of power to do this well und fast. When you buy this and want to use on right way I recommend you to expand RAM to 1GB.
Compatible memory modules for your Satellite M30x are:
    PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
    PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)

  • Satellite M30X - high hard disk drive utilization

After login in Windows XP (SP2), my toshiba laptop is very slow. The hard disk drive light is continuously on for 5 minutes. I've looked at the task manager, but CPU utilization is low and RAM usage is low. There is no program that seems to use a lot of CPU or RAM.
I've actually turned off the paging file to see if the problems due to intensive use of the paging file on the HDD, but problem persists. The model of the laptop is Satellite M30X-113.
I don't know if it's related, but this problem arose around the time that I've taken out a 256 MB RAM module and installed a 512 MB one (making the total ram memory 1024 MB).

    Hi
    > I don't know if it's related, but this problem arose around the time that I've taken out a 256 MB RAM module and installed a 512 MB one (making the total ram memory 1024 MB).
If this issue has begun after installation of the new memory module then I would say that the new memory module is responsible for this issue.
You could also try to put back the 256MB module to check if the issue still persist.
This would be the easiest way for checking

  • Memory upgrade on Satellite L300

I purchased a satellite L300 in august 08 in Australia. It came with a single 1Gb memory module which is now inadequate.
I obtained 2 x 2Gb modules but cannot get it to work with both fitted. Bios reports 4Gb fitted but Vista reboots the first time then blue screens. Ubuntu Linux hangs after loading HAL.
If only one module fitted it works OK and it does not matter which module is used.
Any info on this would be most appreciated.

    Hi
Either the chipset is not able to handle 4GB RAM or there is a compatibility issues between both modules.
This is nothing unusual and happens very often that both modules cannot work together.
In your case I recommend testing other modules.
PS: Be sure that BIOS is up to date... if it's not up to date, then update it and then test both modules again...

  • Memory extension on Satellite P500-1J0

    Hi,
I have got Satellite P500 1J0. It has 4GB RAM. According to manual it can be extended up to 8 GB.
What memory modules exactly to buy (brand, specs..etc)?
    Thanks
    Tomas

You are right. This P500 can be upgraded up to 8GB RAM. You can use two 4GB modules with part number PA3677U-1M4G. Please check this number.
I strongly recommend you to buy high quality modules. One of the best modules are Kingston modules. For compatible Kingston modules visit this page.

  • Memory upgrade on Satellite L30

    I have a Satellite L30-11D and I am wanting to upgrade the memory modules in it, I have found this;
    Part Number: PA3411S-2M1G
    1024MB (1GB) Memory PC2-4300 DDR2 (533MHz)
and it will work but im unsure on this - can you have more than one plugged into my laptop?
    Please help!!!

Of course you can do more then one memory module. On your Satellite notebook there are two slots available and you can put two memory modules. Your notebook can handle with max 2 GB of RAM.
According the notebook specification you should have now 512 MB of RAM. New 1GB module put in place where is now placed 512 MB module and old one put into empty slot.
If you need more assistance please write again.

  • Memory upgrade on Satellite A60-218

    Hi,
Is it possible to upgrade the memory for the Satellite A60-218 models?
I've heard that the memory is onboard (internal) and cannot be replaced. Is this true?
If not, could somebody give me a hint where can I find the memory modules on this model?
I have tried disassembling it without success.
    Thanks!
    Levente

    Hello
Just for info: Satellite A60 has 512 MB internal memory and one sot only is available for upgrade. This unit can handle with max 1,5 GB of RAM. On the bottom side in the middle there is placed memory module cover. Remove it and you will find RAM slot.
For RAM upgrade you can use follow compatible memory modules:
    PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
    PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)
If you have more questions please write again.
    Bye and good luck!

  • K7T, memory modules and slowness

    Bonjour à tous.
That’s the first time I post… It’s hard for me to write in english…
My motherboard is K7T Turbo (MS-6330). I have two problems :
    1. I have three memory modules : 256 MB, 128 MB and 64 MB. All three are 133 MHz speed.
The memory test of  Norton Utilities indicates alwys an error at  an address about 356888576 (the address is not always the same, but always greater or equal than the one I wrote above.
 When just one of these three memory modules is used, the memory test is always OK (any module plugged in any socket)
 The test is also always OK with the two modules 256 an 64 MB,
 Also OK with the two modules 128 and 64 MB,
 But it is Always failed with the two modules 256 and 128 MB.
Here is my conclusion : my K7T Turbo has a problem « addressing the memory in the space around the address 356888576 and above ».
    356888576 is 1545B000 in hexadecimal. 256 MB + 128 MB = 18000000 (hexa) is the only combination of my memory modules that goes ahead 1545B000 (256 MB + 64 MB = 10400000)
Do you think my motherboard is guilty ?
    2. The Memory Bandwidth Benchmark of  SiSoftware Sandra 2002 gives me a result about 895 MB/s.
The result is the same with one, two or the three memory modules. And It seems to me very low.
Is it possible to obtain better ? Is it necessary to upgrade the BIOS (my version is 2.9) ?
    K7T Turbo
    Athlon 1.4 GHz
ATI Rage Fury Pro Expert 2000
