Changing memory RAM deletes my files?

Hey guys! I have a question. My Macbook Pro is upgraded to Mountain Lion and, now, I want to upgrade from 4GB tp 8GB of RAM.
I've never done it before, so I would like to know if this changing could delete my files and softwares! It's really important, cuz I have a lot of stuff and I can't miss a thing!

If you do the upgrade of the RAM yourself be sure to follow the instructions of grounding your self etc to prevent damage to your Mac.

Once you shut down you computer the RAM content is deleted. As noted it has nothing to do with the HD.

You can delete any document files you've stored in the Documents, Downloads, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders located within your Home folder. Or you can replace the hard drive with a larger drive or offload documents to an external storage drive then delete from the internal drive.

I had trouble with my 9300i, it started saying "Memory Full" and told me to delete some files. The problem was, I tried to delete files, but the phone couldn't do it, because the memory was full... I couldn't do anything.
The Control panel's "Memory" said I had 500 Kb of messages, 500 Kb of calendar, and 79 megabytes of "Other file types".
The File manager did not show me anything other than "My own files" and the folders were empty.
I couldn't find any help from Nokia sites. A friend adviced me to make a Full backup on a MMC card, transfer it to PC and delete a certain file: Mail/index. That's what I did, then I resetted the phone to factory settings and transferred the Full backup back to phone.
This helped and my phone was once again operational. However, all my messages were gone, and I had to save the email settings from scratch, so beware, if you need to do the same.
So how can the memory fill 100% if I use the "Delete sent messages after X days" and keep deleting the new ones?! What is this "index", and why is there no clever way to make it smaller...

For next time, look in your E-Mail inbox and Sent items; mine was full of picture attachments - cleared down a few MB just in there.

Change TM drive ---deleteing TM files

I've got TM up and running smoothly, with several backups on my external drive.
1) Can I now copy my TM data to another (larger) drive (via a simple drag and drop in Finder), then change my destination drive in TM and have it continue to update that same data?
2) Say TM ran when I had a bunch of large temporary files on my computer, then, knowing I no longer need them, deleted them. Can I delete them from the TM backup on the external drive to free up space?

I would not advise using the Finder's drag and drop copy for this. I would recommend you use SuperDuper! (SD!) or Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC).
The SD! is not yet compatible with Leopard GM build 9A581 whereas CCC is. I tested CCC for doing this type copy and it worked without any problems and TM recognised it as a bone fide TM backup volume.

Neither my local computer consultant nor I have been ableto change any of the settings in Time Machine to correct this problem. Working with the choices in the TimeMachine, there does not appear that there is any way to change the frequency ofthe backups either, so, after a year has elapsed, the time capsule is full, andmy only choice appears to be to erase all the current data on the Time Capsuleand start over, something that I do not want to at all let alone repeat on anannual basis. How much data is being backed-up from each Mac? (see what's shown for Estimated size of full backup under the exclusions box in Time Machine Prefs > Options).
Is there any other data on your Time Capsule, besides the backups?
Most likely, there just isn't room. Time Machine may be trying to do a very large (or full) backup of one or both Macs, and can't. Since it won't ever delete the most recent backup, there has to be enough room for one full backup plus whatever it's trying to back up now, plus 20% (for workspace).

How much free space does it report if you do a Get Info on the whole drive?
Could we be confusing Memory (RAM), with Hard Drive Free Space (Virtual Memory)?

Memory is supposedly Full, deleted some files, and now I can't open Itunes.

I have a Macbook Pro but I don't play any games, I've never downloaded movies, but I do download music approx. 16GB and pictures...though not sure how to see how much memory these take up. Recently I've had trouble because my computer keeps notifying me that there is no space on the startup disk...which I can't understand why because I don't really have many files or programs on my computer. I've been deleting old files or things I don't really use and now my Itunes won't open saying there's an error (13014). So I have several questions, what is the best way to make space on the "startup disk" whatever that means, and how can I fix the error that's preventing me from accessing itunes? I have a feeling that my pictures might be taking up a lot of the space, how do I know when a single picture is too large and how could I condense them? Also when the memory gets full, my Microsoft Word starts acting all funky, is it because of the full memory? Thanks for your time:)

In any case as F Shippey suggests you may have directory issues. If Disk Utility cannot repair the directory then you may need a stronger disk utility like DiskWarrior to rebuild the directory.

Without knowing anything about your system, your image file, your working document and so on nobody can even begin to guess. The file could be damaged, there could be color management issues at play and what have you...

Are you asking how to use Photoshop?
Or are you asking for the dimensions of video iMovie uses?
It edits in 720P HD, which is 1280x720.
You can make it a bit bigger so you can zoom in.
Much bigger then this is a waste of time.

Hi Muzamil,
The error is occuring because you have not checked-in the document before deleting. First you need to save the DIR and then you can delete the file from your desktop. Then only SAP DMS can retrieve the file from content server and display on screen.
If you have only selected the file which is not checked-in means DIR not saved. And suddenly you tried to delete the original file from desktop. It means the recod is not saved in SAP DMS and before that you have tried to delete it.
This is standard behaviour and such type of files can't be retrieved from content serever as it's original is not saved properly i.e. checked-in.

How to delete locked files on flash memory stick

Several files on my memory stick have somehow become locked and cannot be deleted. When I unlock them in their Info window and then close the window, they revert to locked status. How can I delete these files?

This suggests that the items have the schg flag set; it is possible to turn the flag off, but if there's little or nothing else you want on the drive, you're better off by copying the remaining items if any to your hard disk and then reformatting the flash drive in the Disk Utility, which is in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder. If you still want to clear the flag, follow the instructions for your version of Mac OS X on this page.

Not enough memory (RAM) error. Can't open TIFF file.

I can't open a 74MB TIFF file in CS5 photoshop. I get error message: Could not complete your request because there is not enough memory (RAM).
I have 16GB of RAM and 55.5 GB of scratch disk.
I am using my recently installed copy of Photoshop CS5 64bit on a virtual Windows7 machine running in Parallels on a recently bought MacBookPro. This software (now deactivated) has run successfully on an XP machine and has successfully open TIFF files of this sort before.
I don't know whether this is relevant, but I can't update my copy of photoshop either. It downloads the updates, but will not install them.

I have discovered that the problem is that the TIFF files I am tying to open are 32 bit files. There are several references on the Internet to Photoshop not being able to open these files These are output files produced by the astro-imaging software Deep Sky Stacker. Within DSS I can save the 32 bit TIFFs as 16 bit files which photoshop CS5 can open fine.
Does anyone know whether Photoshop CS5 can open 32 bit tiff files at all? Would it help if I could update my version of Photoshop (see update problem above)?

Why am I losing memory after I delete a file?

I have a Macbook Pro and it runs OS X 10.5. I downloaded a torrent movie the other day put it on a flashdrive and deleted all associated files and I still lost 2+ GB of memory. How is this possible and how do I fix it? I dont think I should lose that much space after I delete a downloaded file otherwise whats the point of deleting. OK, so it's solved.
Whatever you download goes (if all defaults are set) to the Downloads folder in your user profile.
Depending on the file type and software settings a copy CAN be made without it being obvious to the user.
For example if you download an mp3 file (of your friend's band playing in their garage), it will go to Downloads. If you click on it and it opens in iTunes, a copy of that file will be put into the itunes library - making it two copies of the same file. If you then delete it form the Downloads the iTunes copy stays on your HD until you delete it (best way would be to do it through iTunes).
Same with some video files, if played through itunes, a copy will be made. QT will not make a copy as it doesn't use the "library" concept.
Images and some video - if imported to iPhoto - again, a copy will be put into the library.
Also remember that if you drag any files between volumes, the default action is COPY.
If a file is locked, even if you drag from a folder to another - the default action is COPY as well.
What happened in your case, I don't know, but all is well it would seem.
And one more thing (a bit off topic, but worth knowing)...
If you delete a file from a flash drive, you must empty the trash while the drive is plugged in, otherwise it will re-apear in trash every time you plug the drive in.
