Changing MobileMe alias into a separate AppleID

I created several years ago in MobileMe an email alias for my son. He has been using it regularly.
Now he is getting his own laptop, and I would like to change this alias into a separate apple id. How do I do this?

Unfortunately, an email alias cannot be used to create a new ID or be moved to another ID.  An alias address is permanently tied to the iCloud account it was created in.  This is documented here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mm6b1a490a, where is says...
"Aliases are not transferable. Only the iCloud account that created the alias can use it.  Once you create an alias it cannot be made into its own account."

  • Change MobileMe-alias email to AppleID

I've switched from MobileMe to iCloud some weeks ago and now I have a question concerning to alias-email-adresses.
In MobileMe I have used some alias-email-adresses for different things (surfing in the internet, communities etc.) and one of them is used by my wife.
With iCloud it's possible to share and edit iCal-calendar and this is great; so my wife and I could use different accounts now.
    But the main question is:
Is it possible to create a new AppleID from an existing alias-email?

You cannot change an alias to anything else - it remains tied to the account which created it, even after you've deleted it.

  • How to convert my MM alias into an AppleID to use it with iCloud?

I used MobileMe and created a mail that became my Apple ID. Then I created an alias that became my main e-mail so now with iCloud I wish that aslias could become my Apple ID. I don't care to loose the first Apple ID but "How to convert my MM alias into an AppleID to use it with iCloud?"

You cannot convert an alias to Apple ID.
You can transfer your MM to iCloud with your main Apple ID.
There will be your alias as well.

  • HT4864 How can I change my iCloud email to my AppleID email they are not the same

How can I change my iCloud email to my AppleID email?  They are not the same and somehow were switched by my teenage daughter.  I can access the account and change anything except my iCloud eMail account.

    Hi itsjeffb,
If I am understanding you correctly, it sounds like your daughter may have set up an alias account under iCloud. Your AppleID email address may or may not be the same as you iCloud email address, depending on how it was set up. The following articles provide more information about iCloud email addresses and how aliases work under iCloud:

  • Inserting MobileMe Videos into IWeb

I have three questions about inserting MobileMe Videos into iweb.
    1) I used the "insert from MobileMe" command in iWeb and it allows me to insert a video but I can't change the size of the video. Do you know how I can change the size.
    2) I have some movies I have uploaded to the gallery via iMovie and some I uploaded via the mobileme site. The ones via iMovie I can easily insert like I mentioned in Q1 but the others I uploaded are put into an album and iWeb doesn't allow me to select the video I want to insert. It only allows me to insert the whole album which is a small box with links to the album. I want to choose the video to insert into the page. Any ideas How?
    3) Is there a way to insert the video from mobileme using the Html Snippet? If so, how?
    Thanks
    Neil

You can use the [OBJECT/EMBED|http://htmlhelp.com/reference/html40/special/object.html] code for inserting media in a page.
When you know the location of the movie you can create a path to it.
    Your webgallery is in iDisk>Web>Sites>_gallery>100999>Movie.

  • How do I change a WAR into a portlet?

    Hi,
How do I change a WAR into a portlet?
Do I just change the zone.properties, jserv.properties, and the provider.xml. In other words, do I treat it like a jar?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Wilson

If you mean how do you get the contents of a .war file into a JServ environment, then I would advise against trying this unless really necessary. The servlets in the .war file will only work if they do not rely on any Servlet 2.2-specific features, since JServ only supports Servlet 2.0.
Why not just plug the .war file into OC4J? You can still 'front end' it with Apache if you want by using mod_proxy.
If you really wanted to try this, first you would need to unzip the .war file to the filesystem. Then the full path to WEB-INF/classes (if it exists) and each .jar file in WEB-INF/lib would have to be mentioned as repositories in zone.properties, as these all contain 'zone' (or 'web app') specific classes.
WEB-INF/web.xml contains an XML description of the servlets that need mounting in zone.properties, including their init args.
All the other files outside of WEB-INF should be treated as documents by the web server, so should either be copied into your default htdocs directory or exposed under an alias in httpd.conf.This also relies on the classes in the .war file not 'clashing' with different versions in the server's global classpath in jserv.properties.

  • MobileMe alias showing up via iCloud?

    Hi All,
I was sending an email on my ipad this morning and tapped the 'From' field to change my sending account. I noticed an old MobileMe alias was in the list.
When I logged in to iCloud.com, the alias wasn't listed under the 'Addresses' tab.
So, I have an alias that I can't change or delete? It probably isnt a big deal but I am a bit of a neat freak and would like to remove the alias.
Has anyone else noticed this and if so, have you been able to change an old MobileMe alias?
    Cheers, Chris.

I have the exact same issue with the Mail.app and on the iPhone. After migrating to iCloud, old aliases that I used on MobileMe a long time ago now show up. I tried calling Apple, but the hold time was too long. I think I would give them a couple more days to fix this. Perhaps you can try calling them and ask them and post the answer if you hear anything?

  • How to split family plan into 2 separate plans

Hello! I need assistance. How do I separate a family plan into 2 separate plans? 2 of 5 members do not want to be on the plan. How would I go about making this change?

    Three words.
Assumption of Liability. That's the process you need to do. Get the account owner and the parties who want to split off and head to the nearest Verizon Wireless corporate store. Tell the rep that's what you are there to do.

  • How do I receive mobileme alias messages on iPhone?

This seems like a simple question but I cannot find the answer anywhere ...
I have three MobileMe alias names attached to my master me.com account (when they were still allowed to add).  Within my iMac/MacBook Pro Mail Program, I receive messages sent to ALL alias names PLUS the master account name in one Inbox. Perfect.
But on the iPhone or within the Internet-based me.com interface, I can only receive the messages sent to the master account name and NOT the alias names.  I know how to SEND a message from any alias (built into the OS4 interface) but not receive the messages sent to that alias.  As a result, I see only messages sent to the master account name and not the alias names.  Help!
Is this feature not supported on the iPhone or in the me.com Internet interface?  Am I missing something?  Any thoughts would be welcome.  Thanks so much, Greg

Never mind, I answered my own question - embarassing.
I realized that my iMac/MacBook Pro Mail program runs Rules as a message comes in and saves an incoming message instantly into another local folder so it never appears in the Inbox, it goes directlly to an offline folder.
Once I logged out of my Mail program and the Rules were not running, I could see all the messages as they came into the Inbox, alias included, on my iPhone and in the Internet-based me.com interface.  Solved.

  • HT4897 How can I change my alias in iCloud?

How can I change my alias in iCloud?

It's a really bad idea to post your email addresses - it's an invitation to spam - and I've asked the Hosts to remove them.
Microsoft? What have they got to do with it?
Once you have created an iCloud account and chosen an @icloud.com address to go with it you can't change the address (short of creating an entirely new account).
However, all is not lost. You can add up to three 'email aliases' - these are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the same inbox as the main account. (In fact it's a good idea to give out alias addresses, rather than the main address, because if they attract spam you can easily change them.) (New aliases can only be @icloud.com ones; @me.com addresses cannot now be created.)
You should be aware before you start that once you've created an alias you cannot turn that address into a full iCloud account, move it to another account, or reactivate it if you delete it.

  • Album download relabels itself and splits itself into two separate album folders

I have purchased and downloaded an album from a reputable and legal independent website that I have successfully used in the past, but the album folder seems to have a glitch.
When I download the album it labels itself "Standard" instead of by the name of the album title, like it usually does.  Then when I add it to my iTunes library, it relabels itself to the album name and subsequently splits itself into two separate album folders.  9 random tracks located in one folder, 13 in the other.  The only difference between the labels of the two album folders is that one has an underscore at the end of it.  I have exhausted all my trouble shooting tricks like ensuring all the common metadata is the same (artist, album, sorting, grouping, genre, playlist etc) and deleting and re-downloading, and subsequently copying and pasting files into the correct place but the same thing keeps happening.
I have downloaded all the latest software updates on my iMac 10.10.1 and use OS X Yosemite.  I have tried clearing my cache, cookies and webpage history and then downloading again using a completely different browser without success.  I've even tried dragging and dropping files from one folder into the other, again without success.  I would be grateful for any expert advice.

It's a bug that has been there for years.
There are workarounds, but you have to do them every time an album gets split. And that will happen every time you change an artist name or an album name (whether it's to change it to proper capitalization, or other reasons). There is no permanent solution.
    Workaround #1:
    1. Select all the tracks from the album
    2. Right click and select "Get Info"
    3. Change the album name by deleting, let's say, the last letter and press "OK"
    4. Change the album name back.
    Workaround #2:
    1. Select all the tracks from the album
    2. Right click and select "Get Info"
    3. Change the artist name by deleting, let's say, the last letter and press "OK"
    4. Change the artist name back.
    Workaround #3:
    1. Select all the tracks from the album
    2. Right click and select "Get Info"
    3. Go to "Options"
    4. Check (or uncheck, if it's already check) the "Part of a compilation" box and press "OK"
P.S. Some smart person moved this thread from the "iTunes U" forum to the "iTunes for Mac" forum. But the OP clearly said he runs iTunes on Windows.

I don't think I see my situation addressed. I have one mobile me account and a separate appleID for purchases.   I have 4 devices and my wife has two. Right now they are all using the same mobile me account to sync just the calendar and address book.
1.)  I want to add email syncing for my 4 devices and email syncing for my wife's two devices separately, but we want to sync and share the same calendar and address book.  Is this possible?
2.)  I also have 5 different calendars, one for work, one for home, one for... etc.  Is there a way to have different devices only sync certain calendars and not others or is it an all or nothing deal?
Thanks in advance for any tips!
    S

To begin with, I would like to try to explain Apple's confusing nomenclature in regard to iCloud.
Apple have called the whole cloud thing iCloud, there are a number of features under the iCloud umbrella, some of which require their own login. iTunes is one of these, another is what Apple have unfortunately also called iCloud.
You can use the same Apple ID (account) to login to both iCloud and iTunes, but you don't need to and often users will login to each service using a different ID.
The part that you need to remember is that the services available when you log into iCloud are completely different and unrelated to those when you log in to iTunes. Your iCloud login enables mail, contacts, calendars, find my phone, Back to My Mac, Documents & Data sharing and photosstream, it does not affect any of your iTunes services.
To avoid confusion when discussing your problem, when I mention iCloud, I am referring to the services under the iCloud login, Whereas I will refer to the whole cloud thing as The Cloud.
Generally speaking it is not a good idea to share an iCloud account between different people, it often results in contracts, calendars et cetera being deleted by others. Saying that however you can add secondary iCloud accounts to your devices at settings> mail, contacts, calendars. Secondary accounts do not have all the features of a primary account, but are often very useful. Because you can enable or disable each individual feature of an iCloud account, you can cover almost any situation by using secondary accounts.

  • Sending from a MobileMe alias on iPad?

Hi, I want to know if its possible to send email from iPad using an alias you can create on MobileMe?
ie, on MobileMe web interface you can go into settings and create any @me.com address, and then it's available in to use in the 'from' field when you compose an email.
So it's not a case of adding a whole new MobileMe account into the iPad, it's sending from an alias in my current, main profile.
Is it possible to do this on iPad? I'm guessing in typical Apple style it isn't...

    Wolf Thandoy wrote:
Reason is, Michael, unless the alias accounts are created, the alias 'from' address does not appear in my pick list
And yet, neither I nor the many others doing it this way have created any sort of an account for the aliases but are nevertheless able to use them is exactly the way described.
However with two aliases (plus the actual account), the iPad is now receiving three copies of everything to my .mac address?!
This should not surprise you — you have set things up to receive the same message to three different accounts.
Now I'm lost. If I switch off synchronisation of email for the alias account(s), I again lose the ability to send mail from it. Drat. I know there is a way. There must be a way. Next?
Sorry, but Next must be Last. I can't think of anything else to be done on the iPad itself. Externally, and just working from memory here, I'm fairly sure that MobileMe itself would have to be set up so that the desired aliases are active, and in iTunes I think you may have to use the option to sync over all mail accounts and settings or whatever looks similar to that.
In any event, it's something which merely happens. Keep working at it and you'll get there. Start by getting rid of the two extra accounts.

  • My wife and I have separate AppleID accounts and always have. For some reason after she bought the iPhone 5c, whenever she tries to update her apps, it comes up for my AppleID and asks for my password. Please help on how to fix this!

My wife and I have separate AppleID accounts. Ever since she updated to the iPhone 5c, for some reason when she tries to update her apps, it comes up with my AppleID and asks for my password.  I cannot figure out why this happening and how to fix this.  Please help!

I have had this issue lately.
I can only put it down to using the one computer to update all our IPads for me and my wife.
Some of our apps, although downloaded from both our seperate accounts on our IPads, are the same.
However after plugging her IPad into the computer when my AppleID is on ITunes, I think something strange has happened and when she then tries to update Apps on her IPad and I try on mine it now asks for the others Apple ID password.
The only way I have found to counteract this is to update an app one at a time, if that app asks for your wifes password then delete it and then reinstall it.
That has solved it for me.
    Hope this helps
