Changing mobo, reinstall OS?

I have MSI 790FX-GD70 with 8GB RAM DDR3 1333MHz, Phenom II X4 945 and Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
I want to upgrade my pc so I bought MSI 970A-G46 mobo. Do I really have to reinstall Windows in order to work fine? If yes, why is this important?

For few reasons, (even from my own experience) yes you have to:
First of all, you will need to completely change drivers (also BIOS defaults will be a little different) which might not let Windows load properly.
Then, your windows... will just not start properly if the board is completely different. I have experienced "hang" or blue screen when I took 500gb HDD from my previous Gigabyte (mobo) AMD PC into this MSI Intel PC with windows on it. It just freezed at some point while loading and that was it.
So if you don't want any incompatibilities, I think you should reinstall Windows. (DO BACK UP OF FILES FIRST )

Hello people, i'd like to know if i can simply remove the cpu from this mobo and put it in another mobo:
    http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?DocLang=eng&docId=emr_na-c02782869&docLocale=eng_E...
cause as i wrote in another post, i'm having big problems with my new vga and pc won't boot
and if i really had to change the motherboard, i prefer spend little money on it if i don't have to buy a cpu, cause buying a cpu would be impossible for me right now.
    Sorry for my english!
    cheers

Changing the motherboard would require the purchase of a new WIN 8.1 license.  Please go back to the post you made here:

  • Permission change after reinstalling leopard

Because my computer froze totally, I had to reinstall the system.
Doing so, all the disks except the start up one had their permissions changed and a little lock appeared on their icon. So far, I cannot copy anything on any disk. The system says that "the disk cannot be modified".
Modifying permissions with an account admin or the root user does not work. I got an "error code -50" when I try to modify permissions using the root account, using the finder.
All impacted disks/partitions are formatted in MAC OS extended and are journalled.
Any idea what might cause this and what could be done to resolve it?
    Thanks

Doing dome additional research, I found the following link: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1306886&tstart=255. Can this be the reason of the issue of having to reinstall in the first place?

  • [8.1 pro update1] Windows KEEPS changing and reinstalling keyboard layouts regardsless of IgnoreRemoteKeyboardLayout

Windows 8.1 is driving me nuts beyond believe once again. I have 8.1 Pro update 1 English, installed from the VLK iso from our Volume License / SPLA account. As we are a Dutch company, the Location is set to The Netherlands, as well as the date/time format.
Therefore in my keyboard settings the language is Dutch (NL) but I set my keyboard layout to US, as below:
As you can see there are no other languages our installed. This worked for years with Windows 7 and before with XP. Windows 8.1 however KEEPS changing my keyboard layout to plain Dutch making my keyboard unusable. The language bar in the systemtray, or whatever
it's called in this OS, shows THREE layouts, which are actually 'selectable' and work as if they were installed. However, they are not 'really' installed, as per the screenshots above.
This is driving me completely mad. Why on earth is Windows making descisions for me which I should be making myself? In addition, in my oppinion Windows should NEVER change somthing as trivial as a keyboard layout by itself. People don't change switch keyboard
even when logging on to a remote system that has a different layout configured. Whoever came up with this 'automatic switching per application' idea once again had no clue of real-life usage at all.
I've added those two languages I do NOT want to my keyboard layouts and removed them. Sure they are gone then, and as only language NLD with layout US is left, the language bar in systray is gone as well. After a few days all three are back, and my keyboard
    is producing wrong characters again.
I've tried with regvalue HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout\IgnoreRemoteKeyboardLayout set to 1, to no avail at all. It just keeps changing. This should help to prevent my keyboard when changing when I RDP to one of my servers.
The advanced settings in Language don't help either:
'let me set a different input language for each app window' is unticked.
Override for default keyboard is now set to Dutch - US, like I want it. Doesn't help either.
I cannot reproduce it on demand, settings do NOT change when connecting to my RDP server(s). They do NOT change when I open any of my used programs, being IE, Chrome, CMD.exe, notepad and a few others. It shouldn't either as I disabled the 'keep settings
    per application'.
I have changed the keyboard shortcut from alt-shift or whatever it was to 'none'.
How to prevent Windows 8.1 completely from changing the keyboard layout I use? Is there any way to check WHY or WHAT actually changes my keyboard?

This might be really late to this post but I've been having this issue while playing games, particularly those which are complex enough to require Control, Alt, Shift. At first like some people here suggested
Windows Key + Space was the cause, but even after removing all alternate layouts (for reference, I want the UK layout, but it was switching to the US Layout) it was persisting.
This post pointed me in the right direction, go into your Language Options
    > Change Override (Advanced). At this stage I've noticed there is the Switching input methods section, look for
Change language bar hot keys and here I fount Alt + Shift
was being used for switching Between input languages - a key combo I'd probably hit quite often just purely by accident. You can change the key sequence to no binds.
I haven't fully tested it, but it appears to be working for now - and I hope its an extra option for people to look at if they're running into this issue.

  • Changing mobo in dv6 to dv7 :) support, thoughts? ideas? and help!

So i have a dv6-6153ea, its okay but i want more! now in the guide for this mobo i could upgrade the mobo to a better one and then use a better cpu, i know this but what i want to do is this!
The dv7's happen to have (from what i can see) the same layout on the boards! even down to the usb/hdmi placement....
Think it can be done? heres the part numbers,
this is a board i know for a fact will fit (checked parts and such it comes from the dv6 Series) 650799-001
And this is the dv7 part number - 665991-001
Now my understanding is it should work, placement on most if not all is the same but im trying to confirm it and unfortantly i cannot find to much info on the boards! and for the record, heres my actual board part number - 659150-001
Does anyone know who the best person to email would be to get some specs on these? thanks!

    Hi,
Part #659150-001  is used in 16 models/products of dv6 laptops:
         http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?SearchText=659150-001
and for #665991-001 is used in 29 models/products

Not like desktops, ypu can't find systemboard specs on the net.
    Good luck.

  • MOVED: Want to change mobo

This topic has been moved to MSI All-In-One and barebones PC series.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=161262.0

No, except for a Hetis G41 replacement mobo. To get one ask MSI. >>How to contact MSI.<<
You can't upgrade Hetis G41 with a new mobo. Get a new barebone or setup a custom build machine. There is no real upgrade possible with the Hetis components as it uses outdated Core2/DDR2 so you'd need to upgrade anything else anyway.

  • Can I change and reinstall my Indesign CS6 from my (soon to be old) windows pc to my (new) apple pc?

I have Windows licenses for Indesign CS6, vs 8 and Photoshop purchased & downloaden through Adobe about two years ago. I am now switching to an Apple pc but do not want to buy new packages or creative cloud since my purchased packages still suit me perfectly..
I know this question has been asked before but I cannot find a definite answer. So therefor I hope someone can clarify this to me.
    Many thanks!

  • Change of mobo for sandy bridge, will it affect software use (CS5 master)

Hello - new to this as you can tell from my question.
Just completed my new build, was very pleased with everything - system works a treat and about to purchase and intsall and register cs5 master this w/e
Realised may need to change mobo in April = advised by intel beacuse of sata2 controller problem with p67 chipset.I intend to replace mobo when corrected versions become available in April.
Question - my system disk is going to be the c300 ssd 128gb - it will contain - windows 7 ultimate, ms office, and cs5 master. When I change the mobo will my pc still work? Do i have to de register the software when i change mobo? or register it again?  Am I better of waiting til April before I install cs5 (though prefer not to). The components of my build will be the very same ones apart from the defective  mobo
I heard somewhere that I can legally use the software on 2 pc's though not at the same time. WIll I still be able to install and use it on my laptop if I need to, after I have changed the mobo in April.
(Also -- does anyone know the answers to the questions if for ms office.)
Thans for you help. I have not installed cs5 on a new build myself before, so really dont know what to expect after changing mobo
    (My system -2600k, gigabyte p67a ud7, c300 128gb ssd, 2 *1tb spinpoint f3, evga 580, 8gb ripjaws (2*4gb), liteon bd writer, noctua nhd14, antec hcp1200, lian li x900, windows 7 ultimate)

Well, I finally received my motherboard (Gigabyte P67A-UD7). Looks exactly like the old one, at least on casual inspection. Packaging is identical except for the graphics on the outer box. Only difference inside the box is that the SATA cables are black (first ones were blue). I'd forgotten how pretty these boards are- it was kinda cool to have two in the hand...
The switch was monkey-simple. I had to do one re-start, and since I added a few HDD's I had to change the boot order. (I know, this was a Very Bad Idea. Rule #3 is Never Upgrade More Than One Thing At A Time. But it was such a great opportunity to run more power cables and work on the cable management that I couldn't resist.)
Anyways, the software RAIDs were recognized, the drives were there, everything works the way it did and is absolutely fine: it even plays perfectly nicely with a couple of F2s that were a complete nightmare in my older system.
    In short, I checked the new and old boxes and got all the old packing together;
    -took out the new board and took off the CPU cover;
    -removed the GPU and cables from the old board and labelled them;
-removed the old board from the case, took off the cooler and cleaned it. Don't forget a bottle of 99% Isopropyl alcohol and a few pieces of gauze to clean the old thermal compound off the CPU and cooler.
    -cleaned the cpu, removed it, put it in the new board, put on paste and reinstalled the cooler;
    -packed up the old board and all accessories;
-did what i wanted to do in the case, reinstalled the board, hooked it up and reinstalled the video card.
(I probably missed some vital steps. This is not a guide, just a gentle encouragement to do it!)
I deactivated CS5 first using the total deactivation method so when I tried to open it I had to re-enter the serial number. Takes 5 seconds if you've already saved it to a text file- and I have.
I forgot to deactivate Lightroom and it didn't seem to make any difference, but I only have it on this machine. I would recommend deactivating first. Can't hurt and like Harm (and maybe others) said it takes seconds.
All in all, it was a totally painless experience (as these things go) and a great opportunity to do a few upgrades I'd been putting off.

  • My Ipd Nano 6th generation isn't recognized by my computer or iTunes. I've followed all the troubleshooters and have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes numerous times. I've checked for legacy software under device manager but I keep getting error 10.

After checking for changes and reinstalling legacy software in device manager I keep getting an error 10 message (device can't start). My device is charging when I plug it in and is otherwise still functioning normally. Can anyone help me please?

  • Changing from non-ssl to ssl communication in OAM

I have installed the Identity server and webpass on linux, I initially set them up for non ssl communication between them and the configuration/policy store & the user store. Now I must change that to use SSL. I have not configured them yet. how would I make this change without reinstalling?
When I try to set the configuration data location with SSL checked I get the following error
The files requires for SSL connection are missing.

    Hi Andy,
Note 740034.1 on My Oracle Support describes how to do this. After performing those steps, I would also verify that you do not have any remaining Open Mode directory profiles being used (in the Identity System Console/System Configuration/Directory Profiles).

  • Reinstall CS6 same computer

How should I go about reinstalling Adobe Creative Suite CS 6 Authorizatiion #[redacted by kglad-mod] due to computer crash and reload of Windows 8 operating system.

install it just like you did the first time.  if there's no significant hardware change, the reinstall/reactivation won't count as an additional install/activation.

  • Officejet L7680 spontaneously "disconnects". New USB, no help. Uninstalled, reinstalled, etc

My Officejet L7680 will start to print, then after 1/2 page, the solution center pops up with "disconnected" message.  I purchased new USB, changed port, reinstalled, etc.  Followed all instructions from HP.  Still no help.

well it looks like I have a working solution  ... I downloaded a freeware file called process.exe .  I made a cmd file via notepad with the following contents:
rem this is to keep the HP network printer communicating with the desktops
    rem
    process -k "hpnetworkcommunicator.exe"
    rem
    process -k "scantopcactivationapp.exe"
    rem
    "C:\Program Files\HP\HP Officejet Pro 8600\Bin\HPNetworkcommunicator.exe"
    rem
Start "" "C:\Program Files\HP\HP Officejet Pro 8600\Bin\ScanToPCActivationApp.exe" -deviceID CNXXXX:NW -scfn "HP Officejet Pro 8600 (Network)"
the XXXX is your printer serial number with an extra character or two.  Pull that number from the port tab after you pull up "properties" for the 8600 printer.
This cmd file basically restarts the printer link.  It opens a command window that launches the program to re-establish the link.. then it closes the command window.   The launched program shows that the communication link is dead (just for a few seconds), but then it makes the connection... THEN you hit the close button and coninue your work until it dies again.
I may have it autorun every X hours if I can narrow down a good time.  Until then I have a shortcut on the desktop to "FIX HP LINK"   ...   I only had to do this for my XP machines, as the vista one seemed OK.
What ticks me off is that I shouldn't have to do all of this diagnosis. It would be nice if there is a fix in the pipeline so the link stays stable al the time.  I've spent hours trying to figure this crap out.
Anyhow, I hope the time I spent helps someone.  PS, thanks to the OJ6500 thread that had the info for the scantopcactivationapp.exe program.
PS  ...  I'm still waiting for an engineer to contact me, if any HP employees are reading this.
PSS  I haven't tried this without killing and restarting the hpnetworkcommunicator stuff, but it works for now.

How can I permanently change the language interface of Firefox 4 Beta to English?
Computer is running on Swedish Windows XP.
Found that the advice on similar questions is to install the language version of the desired language on top of the current version but I haven't found different language versions for 4 Beta, only 3.6.8.
Have also tried to change general.useragent.locale (about:config) to en-US but to no avial.

    Hello,
If somebody has installed the multi-language package is there a possibility the language to be changed without reinstalling the browser?
