Changing multiple clips

I have figured out that I can paste an effect across multiple clips... but I have not figured out how to change, for instance, a "Motion" attribute like "Opacity" across multiple clips at once... is there a trick I'm missing, or do I need to pick a similar "effect" and paste it across the clips?

Once you've adjusted the opacity on one clip, copy it (Command c) then select (highlight) all other clips on the Timeline to which you want to apply the same opacity levels. Right-click on one of them and select Paste Attributes. When the Paste Attributes window opens, click on Opacity.
If there are other attributes you want to paste to the other clips, click those as well.

  • Changing multiple clips concurrently

I have 14 clips in sequence that I need to change the duration of, with the end result of each clip being one-half second in duration. What is the most efficient method to accomplish this change? All are resident on v1.
    Thank you,
    Lyman

    Hi Martin,
    ...unless they are stills.
Then you can: select them all in the timeline, right-click the selection and select Duration(hh:mm:ss:ff)..., change their duration in the Duration dialog. No gap is left in the timeline, whether you make them shorter or longer.

  • How to change Opacity Blending on multiple clips...??

    First the problem:
    Whenever I open a Premiere v6.5 project, CS4 does a "conversion."
Maddeningly, during this process, it changes the Opacity\Blending Mode of every single clip in the project to "Color" instead of leaving it at "Normal."
Since I am working with Stereo (3D) footage with a different camera on V2 & V1, I always have at least two, and often many more, video tracks (for titles, etc).
This means I have to go through every single clip on every single video track and reset it to Normal before I can proceed with the project! This can be upwards of 500 clips.
    PITA!!
    1) Does anyone have any idea why this is happening & how to prevent it?
    or,
    2) Is there a way to change this setting in all the clips at the same time?
Whenever I select multiple clips, no Effect Settings (or whatever Shift 5 is called) appear. Only there for single clips.
    TIA,:-)

Do one clip, copy (rightclick) the clip, select all the others and paste attributes.

  • Change duration of multiple clips "as one" overall clip?

    Here's my situation:
I have a song at 127 BPM. I have a music video (muted sound) at 125 BPM.
I've spent a long time slicing up clips from the video into different channels and muliple clips to form one timeline (but with many clips and channels lined up).
I now want to change the overall duration of the video clip to match the BPM of the song (which I should have done in the first place), but the video is, as previously stated, sliced up in mulitple clips in multiple channels. How can I change the duration of all clips at one time, where the end and start of the clips still line up to eachother?
This would've been incredibly easy if there were a un-nesting feature. Where I can nest multiple clips, change the duration, and un-nest the clips to slices clips with a changed overall duration. (Which is not possible. Yes, I can drag the clips out of the nested clip, but the clips will still have the original duration).
TL;DR: How can I change duration of multiple clips "as one" overall clip?

Never mind. I've found a alternate solution. I used a time stretch calculator at http://mp3.deepsound.net/eng/samples_calculs.php and time stretched all the clips to match the BPM of the song. Now I only need to snap all the clips, which can be done one by one, but I found this trick to snap all the clips at once: http://vimeo.com/27428526.

  • Changing volume in multiple clips at once?

Im going crazy pulling the volume level up and down to the same level in multiple clips, are there any way to mark the clips and change the level in all of the at once?

    Several ways to do this.
    select clips
CMD ] to raise 3dB, CMD [ to lower 3dB
CMD - to lower 1 dB, CMD + to raise 1dB
CMD OPT L to enter a numeric value either relative to the current level or absolute level

  • Change properties to multiple clips?

Hi, I was wondering if I could change the reel name of clips in an entire bin? I thought there was a shortcut?
    thx! ea

You can select multiple clips and then Control-click (right-click) in the Reel column. That brings up a shortcut menu of all existing reel names from which you can select the right one, with that change cascading across all selected clips. You may (or may not) get a dialog warning you that you're changing the source file.
Of course, your Browser will need to be in List View to accomplish this. Also, if your reel name doesn't exist in your project already, you'll need to enter it manually - click into the Reel column - for a single clip, then try this whole process.

  • How to change effects on multiple clips

Is there a way to change and/or adjust effects/filters on multiple clips at once?  I have added an effect on a scene and I want to adjust the overall level to all the clips, i.e. the amount of the effect applied.
I highlighted all the clips and made the adjustment in the Inspector, but it only made the adjustment to one single clip even though I selected all.  I REALLY do not want to sit and adjust each one seperately.
    Anyone with an answer?  Thanks

I am not adding an effect. I am adjusting ONE single effect within multiple clips that have multiple effects. if I just copy and paste it copies ALL the effects, which I do not want, because I have different effects for different clips. i.e. different color schemes etc.
In otherw ords, I wnat to be able to EDIT effects in multiple clips. E.G, I have added color correction, "looks" filter, etc to multiple clips.  I just want to change ONE of those effects in multiple clips without disturbing the rest of the effects in those clips.

  • Changing multiple text clips attributes?

I have a number of text clips that I need to change both the font size and the color. Is there a way to paste text control attributes from one clip to another or to multiple clips? I have about 50 I need to change and doing each one manual, until the client changes their mind again, is becoming tedious.
    Thanks.

There's no easy way to paste attributes like title fonts and colors and sizes. You could try an xml workaround like this:
    http://www.dvcreators.net/warp-speed-workflow%e2%84%a2-3-changing-the-font-of-al l-titles-at-once/
it works for font but not sure about color and size.
Something like Traffic might be a good bet too:

  • Scale multiple clips without changing position?

I'm attempting to scale multiple clips to the same size, however I don't want to change their position. Therefore copy/paste attributes won't do the trick without changing position, as you can only paste the entire "Basic Motion" attribute.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Lee

Thanks for trying to help figure this out Kevan. I'm finding that there is nothing but workarounds to get only scaling to adjust without changing position.
The source stills are all the same size. Basically I was given less than HD stills to begin with, and I'm now replacing those with HD sized stills of all the same size. There are a lot of match frame edits, so I would prefer not to have to reposition everything again.
It doesn't seem unrealistic to think that one should be able to copy/paste only the "scale" value in the clip just as you are able to copy/paste opacity only. Maybe that's a feature for future versions of FCP.
It works if I go through and manually change the scale of each clip to 50%. The positioning stays the same.
And now it seems that I've found the answer to my own question:
    1. Reconnect media to the new, hi-rez stills
    2. Nest the sequence into a squence that's the same resolution as the new source stills
    3. Scale the nest down to fit the HD sequence settings
    Retains the original positioning.
    Thanks guys!

  • Changing multiple sound clips volume?

I need to adjust almost an entire track's sound (by about +5db...) Is there a simple way to select them all and apply +5db to multiple clips?
    Thanks!

    Joshua wrote:

Yeah, select the clips you want to raise 5db, then raise them 5db. If you select the clips you want to raise, use Control- ] and Control- [ to raise or lower in 3db increments. Control- + and Control-- will raise or lower in 1db increments.
So select them and raise them. The process is really as simple as your question.
EDIT: I don't know why that's showing up as a link. It's supposed to be Control and the brackets in either direction.
EDIT: I think I fixed it now. The question & the answer were both easier than actually fooling the system into realizing i wasn't typing a link.

  • How do you change the volume for multiple clips in one go?

    Hi all,
Im having some trouble with audio. Im posting this in a rush so sorry in advance if its a bit muddled! Im editing snow reports with a journo piece to camera (track one lapel microphone) with overlay (track two nat sound ).
    1. is there a way to only bring in track one only and track two only from the source monitor?
    2. Is it possible to adjust the volume on multiple clips that are on the timeline (so that i can bring down the nat sound for all of the overlay track two)
At the moment im bringing them into the timeline and adjusting them individually. I tried lowering the volume on one clip and saving it as a preset but    it wont let me.
    your help is greatly appreciated
    Paul

Duplicate the audio once editing is done.  In the Mixer window, apply the Fill Left effect to one audio track, and the Fill Right effect to the other.  Then adjust the mixer appropriately.

  • How can I edit multiple clips with different frame rates on the same timeline

how can I edit multiple clips with different frame rates on the same timeline

You do not want to edit material from different frame rates on one timeline. You CAN do this, but it is a very bad idea - and this is why.
Once you establish the sequence frame rate - lets say it is PAL material at 25fps, any material that you drop into the sequence other than 25 fps will have to be changed to play at 25 fps. If the material you add is NTSC (29.97), FCP will DROP 5 frames per sec to bring the frame rate down to 25 fps. Which 5 get thrown away? Every 6th one. This yields a funky cadence that becomes even more complex as as there are also interlaced fields (DV/NTSC is an interlaced format). Oh, and by the way, the image sizes are different as well. DV/PAL has 576 lines of resolution and DV/NTSC has 480. FCP has to scale up the NTSC to fit the PAL frame.
You do not want FCP adjusting these things on the fly. You want to do a thoughtful (and time consuming) conversion so that you end up with all your material in one format with the best possible image from the conversion process. Compressor can do an adequate job with Frame Controls turned on. The Natress Standards Conversion FCP plugin is another way to go. A third option is to find a post house that can do the conversion for you using a hardware based process.
The good news is, once everything is in the same format, editing it will be painless and the output process very quick.
Whatever frame rate/ image size you select, I'd suggest using ProRes for the codec. It is 4:2:2 color and will withstand color correction and composting with much more grace than any variant of DV based codecs.
    Have fun.

  • Move multiple clips at once

I often have to move multiple layers of clips or still images and keep their position relative to each other. In AE and in PS I can select multiple layers and drag their position around freely, but in Premiere Pro, I can only drag one layer at a time.  Bouncing to AE is not a solution for me because everything I work with needs to be timed with multiple layers of audio at all times.  Nesting is not a solution for me because I need to be able to adjust each layer independently as well.  This is a feature I would use (and did use in FCP) dozens of times every day!  I really need this.  Any chance it's coming in a future update?

    Hi Chris,
Hi Kevin, I resurrected this old thread today so I'm not sure if the original poster is still around but thanks for the replies.
    Sure, no problem.
The After Effects work around is quite long winded for what seems like a very simple task, but I do appreciate your point about how FCP was designed differently from the beginning.
Indeed, it really seems that way from the outset, but AE launches really fast these days. You can set up these kinds of comps very quickly and be back in Premiere Pro in no time. Remember how Motion and FCP used to work together? I think of it in the same way.
Sure it would be better if Premiere Pro had all the goodies FCP had (like this feature), but it's a totally different application and so you may have to adjust your expectations.
I'm sure it's not the case of just changing a couple of lines of code in Premiere, unfortunately! Hopefully the "multiple clip parameter editing" and "horizontal/vertical lock" features can be implemented in the future.
That's often the case, but the question is then "when would we have the time to write and test that code when there are 800 priorities ahead of it?" The key is feature requests. The more we get for any one feature, the faster it rises to the top of the list of priorities.
If anyone else would like these please submit feature requests! http://www.adobe.com/go/wish
You have the right idea. Thanks!

  • Selecting and Dragging multiple clips - CS6 Sniper mode

With the introduction of ability to select Edit Points, now it's inconvenient to drag multiple selected clips or add clips to selection because in some cases - depending on timeline zoom state and/or clip duration. The edit points are altered instead of the clips, that behaviour drives me nuts. It leads to a necessity to do one of the following actions before selecting and/or dragging multiple clips with comfort:
sniper mode - put the cursor over a place in the selection where the cursor will not indicate Edit Point trimming mode.
to avoid loosing selection when using sniper mode - Group the clips after adding every clip to selection and/or after a dragging operation
dynamically change zoom state so that you will not have to use sniper mode
use copy/cut/paste - may involve a necessity to do additional pre-pasting steps
IMHO, this behaviour should be rethinked.
How fast it was in CS5.5 and older versions:
Please, Premiere Pro Programming Team, especially Tim Gogolin, Steve Hoeg, Peter Lee, Gerry Miller, James Mork, Vivek Neelamegam, Axel Schildan, Jerry Scoggins, Sven Skwirblies, Tod Snook, Jesse Zibble, rethink the behaviour of selecting and dragging clips. Start giving links to beta-versions to other editors too, not only to editors like Philip Bloom.
Selecting edit points is sometimes helpful and sometimes distracting.
To get the best of two worlds (CS6 edit points vs. CS5.5 and older) - a switch could be added to Keyboard Shortcuts list, like the "hidden" Add Clip Marker shortcut.
Let's name it "Application > Sequence > Select Edit Points".
When Shift- or Shift+Alt- key is pressed and some Clip is selected, clicking on an edit point of another clip should add a clip to selection in the same way as previous versions of Premiere Pro did:
To drag clips in legacy sniper-free mode only a switch can help. Let's name it "Application > Sequence > Select Edit Points when Multiple Clips are Selected".
To add comfort to the editing process - selecting/dragging multiple clips - additional switches cannot be avoided. Additionally you may add an option to the Preferences > Trim:
Allow Selection tool to choose Roll and Ripple trims without modifier key
Allow Selection tool to select Edit Points while multiple Clips are selected
    Feature Request/Bug Report Form
      ******BUG******
Concise problem statement:Inconveniences when selecting and dragging multiple clips
    Steps to reproduce bug:
1.Create a Selection of multiple clips with Shift+Click
    2.Try to drag the clips
Results:With the introduction of ability to select Edit Points, in some cases (depends on timeline zoom state and/or clip duration) now it's inconvenient to select and drag multiple selected clips because the edit points are selected instead of the clips
Expected results:Clips should be selected/dragged like in CS5.5 and older

With all due respect Kevin, nobody at Adobe has the right to change a program SO drastically.  I am also a mouse person, and am MUCH faster using the mouse, vs the keyboard.
When people have invested YEARS into a program like Adobe, they get used to things, how things work, the feel of a program.  I really don't see how you all can just change it on a whim.  IF you are going to do this, BOTH methods should still work.  You cannot just stop the way people are used to editing.  You can't just decide to change a program so drastically, that it doesn't feel like a program we have grown to love over many long years.  If Adobe on a whole is changing things, just because a few people in your company voice opinions like I've quoted below, it's not the way to go.  Adobe should be really putting feelers out there, and seeing how people are really using the program.  Things should be getting easier, more powerful, sure that's natural, but you can't just decide to remove things that mouse users do every day. :-(
Upgrading a program, and changing it to this degree, are two different things in my book.  I have not yet upgraded, but it is very scary - the things I'm seeing.  For one, way way too many bugs.  The amount of bugs on so many boards being reported are just beyond comprehension.
And a final note, I for one, am very glad Steven is posting these videos ( I'd like to hear him go through steps though - just watching the video with no audio of what he is doing is not so great, however after watching some of his posts, he's knows what he's doing, and has a good head to think with )
I mostly read posts, but I thought I would voice my opinion, if none of us speak up, nothing will get changed.  I'm really hoping that Adobe implements some change in the next revision .5 or whatever it will be called.  Reading posts like this one are really depressing.  Did you watch Steven's video on a simple task as moving multiple clips around on a timeline ?  Doing this with a mouse just isn't going to work for many, removing simple tasks by way of using a mouse would stop me from upgrading.
Please address this in upcoming updates.
    Dave.

  • How to apply Time Remap to multiple clips simultaneously

Quite often after trimming many different clips for a wedding video I will then want the majority of them slowed down to a 50% speed. I know how to apply the Time Remap Speed % change in the Motion Tab, but have yet to figure out how to make the change to multiple clips simultaneously.
    Thanks for your help!

You can apply a speed change from one clip to multiple clips by copying the first one, then pasting attributes (option + V, then select speed from the list) onto as many clips as you have selected.
Just be aware that this will ripple your timeline by extending all of your clips. FCP keeps the original out point of the source clip, not the out point of each cut on the T/L.
