Changing multiply clip duration/speed

I have about 80 .jpeg images for which I would like to alter ALL their speed/durations from 5 seconds to 3.  I know how to
do this clip-by-clip in the timeline but it takes too long to do.  Does anyone know how to do this en-mass? thanks

"Speed" will be grayed out, as you're changing a still image and a still image can't have a "speed". However, "Duration" should be yellow hot-text that you can drag and change, or click to enter a specific value. The only thing I can think of is if you selected clips with different durations (i.e. you already changed one of them), the "Duration" value will be just a single hyphen/dash; it's kind of small but you can click that and change the value.

  • Changing a clip's speed in the timeline...

I tried searching for this and looking around in the preferences but couldn't find anything.
When I change a clip's speed in the timeline, how do stop FCP from shifting all the other clips that follow on the timeline?
    Thanks in advance.

Hi Warren. I"m not sure if there is an easy way to undo this, but one thing you can do is just copy the clip into a new sequence, make the speed change and then paste it back into place in the original sequence. If you're slowing it down, you'll have to shrink the duration of the clip some to make it fit in its original location.

  • Can you change still clip duration default setting?

I create wedding videos, and at the end of my movie I add about 100 still clips as edited highlights. In older versions of imovie you were able to alter the length of still clips created in the preferences to whatever time you wanted. In this newer (better?!?) version when I have created all my still clips I have to click on each one individually to alter the time duration. The default setting is 5 seconds and I can't find anywhere that you can change this. It takes me AGES to do this individually, anybody got any ideas of a better way? Cheers.

I can't necessarily recommend this for it can lead to project corruption. It's possible to manually edit the text of the iMovie project file, changing the playtime duration of all your still clips to the duration you want.
    1. In iMovie, double-click on one of your still clips. Write down the name of its source file. Quit iMovie 6.
    2. In the Finder, make a duplicate of the project. Work on the duplicate.
    3. In the Finder, open the duplicate project package. (Control-click on the project icon and choose "Show Package Contents" from the popUp menu.)
    4. You'll see two iMovie project files loose in the window that opens, plus some folders. One of the project files has a tilde (~) in its name and one does not. Our goal is to edit the file that does NOT have the tilde. (The tilde file is type of backup.)
    5. Launch TextEdit. (In your Applications folder.) Drop the non-tilde project file onto the TextEdit icon in the Dock.
    6. Use TextEdit's search function to search for the string that defines the play-time of each still clip, now 5 seconds. For PAL, that string is "<integer>125</integer>". For NTSC, it is "<integer>150</integer>".)
    7. For each still, you want to change the 125 to some other number. For PAL, the number you want is 25 X the number of seconds to play.
If the only clips in your project that play for 125 are your stills, you can safely use the Replace All command to replace all with the strings at the same time. Be sure to include the tags <integer> and </integer.
If there are others that play for 5 seconds, you'll need to examine each clip individually, using the sample name you wrote down to see if the clip uses a similar name.
    8. Save the modified file and close that TextEdit window.
    9. Go back to the Finder and double-click on the project package to open it in iMovie 6. If everything worked as intended, all your stills should play with a new length.

  • Changing a clip duration

I've read several items explaining that the KB effect is the reason that I can't change the duration of a photo clip. Several people have given "fixes" for that but none of them work. For instance, several said to double click on the clip and unclick the KB effect - it's not there in my version. Others said double clip and change the duration - same result (although I can change the clip title nothing else can be changed). So am I left reimporting all clips and turning off the KB effect? And by the way, how do you do that? The photos start rendering the moment I import them from iPhoto or a disk.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Firstly, assuming you have iMovie HD (5) - i.e. not the latest version which is iMovie 6, these tutorials could be useful:
    http://www.apple.com/support/imovie/tutorials/index.html
If you have iMovie 6, then look here instead:
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/imovie/im2-1.html
And also you must use the iMovie Help Menu - it is very helpful!
The 'bar at the bottom of the program' into which you dragged the photos is the video track. It can be displayed in two ways, alternately displayed by clicking on the little buttons at the left just under the screen - one shows a miniature clockface (that option is the best for doing editing, but the other displays a simpler, larger version of your pics).
To change the duration of a clip depends on whether or not in the Photos Pane, the Ken Burns option is turned on or not.
If it was not on when the pics were imported, then the duration of single pics can be changed by double-clicking the photo, which opens an information pane including the duration - those numbers can be changed (the last two represent frames). To change the duration of a group of such pics, you select them all, and in the Photos Pane, adjust the slider the hit the Update button.
If the Ken Burns effect was ticked, then the only way the durations can be changed is in the Photos Pane.
The Photos Pane is the one in iMovie you were in when importing pics from iPhoto - selected by hitting the Photos button.
Note: if indeed you have the latest version of iMovie, then tell me, because the layout of and access to the Photos Pane is a little different.

  • Disturbed Audio with long clips and speed changes.

    Hello,
    I experienced a strange problem in FinalCut Pro (v 6 and 7).
-I capture a clip with a Blackmagic Decklink or a DVS Pronto as Uncompressed Quicktime, 720p50 via HD-SDI with embedded audio. The clip is about 10 minutes long.
-I speed down the clip at 36% by changing the clip's speed in the sequence.
When I render the audio track, I get completely distorted audio after some minutes until the clip's end.
The problem doesn't seem to occur when I put the clip in a sequence and nest that sequence into a second one and change the nested sequence's speed.
Is that a known bug? Did anyone out there experience the same problem? Is there any technical explanation and solution?

Both Picture Safe and Title Safe are guidelines. They were developed to ensure that titles and pictures placed within these guides would be viewable on most televisions.
In the same way that no two tv's will look the same with regard to colour, there can also be a great difference in overall picture placement on the screen. Keeping titles within the safe area will help ensure that even the most poorly calibrated set will still show the entire title.
You can't convert the MP4s because you do not own the right to use them.
As for the MP3's, time to do some work and look it up. The Search function here is a great resource.

  • Can't fully change clip duration...

    Hello all
My students and I are doing a claymation type project and I am having some difficulty changing the clip durations once I've imported the photos into iMovie. I can get them in and changed down to 0:00:14 but not any shorter. I should be able to set them as fast as 0:00:03... If I change the clips individually, I can set them to 0:00:03, but if I try to change more than one at a time, the lowest is 0:00:14. With 500 odd photos for each group, changing the length one clip at a time isn't really a feasible option. Any suggestions?

Yes, the pics have to be in the Timeline before they can be adjusted.
Great that it's now working for you. As a retired teacher myself, I know what it feels like when things don't work as they should, and you have a disgruntled class breathing down your neck! Good luck with the project - sounds interesting.
Here's an explanation of PAL and NTSC:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAL
They are Television Broadcasting formats - your part of the world uses NTSC, many other parts use PAL, and some others eg France uses SECAM. They use differing frame rates, so are largely incompatible with each other.

  • Quickest way to change speed but not clip duration

I'm trying to determine the fastest method for changing the speed
of a clip already in the timeline, but not the clips duration. Primarily, slowing a clip down.
The best I've come up with so far is to put the timeline playhead over the
clip and hit X to get the clips IN and OUT points placed in the timeline. Then,
drag the clip into the Browser, effectively making a copy of it there. Then bring the clip into the Viewer, then hit APPLE J to bring up the speed change window, affect the change, then overwrite the change you've made in the viewer back down into the timeline where you placed the original IN and OUTS. Seems like alot of step.
Is there a faster way? Any change I try to make in the timeline itself results
in a clip duration change. The only other way I've found it to use the time remap tool put that is even more complicated and is alot less exact when trying to make something, say, 50% slower.
    Any input would be appreciated.

Another, close but not quite there method I've tried is the TIME REMAP tool
that lives with the SLIP AND SLIDE.
I can affect speed changes, and see what percentage speed change I'm
trying to make, but it wants to change speed on both the left and right side
of the clip. In other words, I can't place the timeline playhead or Time remap tool at the beginning or end of the clip and only effect the speed of the entire
clip unless there is no clip adjacent to the clip I'm trying to change.
Otherwise it changes the speed as I want for 99% of the clip and then during
the last several frames I've accidentally sped up up those frames. I can't position it to just change the speed for the entire clip.

How to change the clip's duration under imovie 10.0.3?

This is a new feature introduced in 10.0.3 which works fine for me.  The old way was to select Modify - Fast Forward.  You can only select certain speed ratios but a slider should appear near the top of the clip which allows finer speed adjustment.  have you tried this?

  • Can't change clip duration Motion 5

I have tried all of the work arounds I have been able to find in the Support Commnity and still I can't change the duration of source clips in Motion 5.  I have trashed plist, rebooted, repaired permisions, changed timing of project, changed name of clip, used the Timeline clock instead of the Instpector window.  Cleared all In / Out points and reset them to slightly different values. I have changed Timing to Variable and back again.  I can open clips in a new project and change duration.  I have opened new project and copied some layers from working project, the problem persists.  Is reinstall the option left available to me?

    BenB,
The specifics: Motion 5.0.4 Timeline is set to 6 minutes, the Media is 5:59;21 (QT,mp4, H264,1280x720, 24fps). Imported via File Browser into Layer Group (Group In / Out points are 0 and 6 mins, as is Play Range).  At one time the clip was in it's full duration.  Afterr a crash / restart it is only 01:52;27.  I can not Drag the clip to its full length. I cannot change it's duration thru the Inspector, not the Timeline Clock.
In an effort to isolate the issue I opened a new Project (same time setttings as original Project, imported the clip, which plays to it's full duration, and then, one at a time, copied and pasted all Filters and Parameters and Objects from the original Project; all play fine.  Then I copied the original Layer Group in it's entirety to the Test Project, and the clip is still limited to 01:52;27.  I then used Replace Media to select a random clips (same format) with varying Duration (all longer than 01:52;27) and got the same result every time; Duraton 01:52;27. Not one element of the Test Project has an In / Out set to anything other than the full Duration of the Project.

  • Changing a clip's duration

How can I specify a detailed duration of a clip down to portions of seconds?
For example: I need to specify that the duration of a clip needs to be, say, 7.5 seconds.
Is this possible in Final Cut Pro X?
I seem to be able to select a clip and drag the end of it to a new duration, but this doesn't seem to be as accurate as I need.
    Thanks

The following was taken from the FINAL CUT PRO X help menu (by typing TRIMMING in the search bar)...
Enter a new duration for a clip using timecode..
You can change the total duration of one or more selected clips by entering a timecode value.
Select one or more clips in the Timeline.
    Do one of the following:
Choose Modify > Change Duration (or press Control-D).
Double-click in the center of the Dashboard in the toolbar.
The timecode entry field appears in the Dashboard.
Enter a new duration for the selected clip.
Final Cut Pro moves the end point of the clip to the duration you entered, and any subsequent Timeline clips ripple accordingly.
For more information about entering timecode values, see Navigate using timecode.
Note:  If you enter a duration longer than the available media in the clip, Final Cut Pro extends the duration to the maximum length of the clip.

  • Can no longer access iPhoto from the iMovie camera browser..not working. Also the Inspector tool not working properly. Cannot change clip duration.

How can I fix the INSPECTOR Tool?   Clip duration is not working properly, it is very erratic.  You type a number and a different one comes up on the clip.
Suddenly the iPhoto Camera browser in iMovie is not working properly either.  Can not access my iPhotos to include them in iMovie project.

    Have you tried this?
From the "HOME" screen, go to "SETTINGS > PRIVACY > PHOTOS" and see if iMovie is listed in the "PHOTOS" page. If it is, then tap the iMovie switch to "ON"
Now your Videos & Photos should be accessible in the iMovie App.

  • Can't adjust clip duration of still photos in iMovie '11

Anyone having the same problem? I inserted a still photo in one of my projects in iMovie which has a a clip duration of 5s when added. I clicked the cogwheel icon then chose the inspector to adjust the duration. I've managed to changed it to 3s but after I clicked "Done", the clip duration is still under 5s.
I didn't encountered this problem before in iMovie '10 and I've searched over at Google and found out that many iMovie '11 users have the same dilemma.
Any workaround you can suggest? Thanks!

"problems setting duration for still photos and transitions in iMovie '11"
A number of people have experienced the same problem and written about it on discussions. Lots of difference solutions as well. If you search using the title quoted above, you can read the solution I found. It's more complicated than it should be. I've never had to fiddle as much with duration times for transitions and still photos. Nevertheless, the steps I have described work for me. You will also find the steps another reader offered that may work for you if all of your transitions are set for the same durations and all of the still photos are as well.

  • Can I change the time/duration in a batch way instead of one by one?

I am using Premiere Pro CS3 and I would like to have 7 seconds per photo and not the default of 5 seconds.  I know you can do each photo separately, by would love a batch performance.  Thanks,  Michele

Thank you so much for your reply.  I really did not try your approach because I had the question posted on another thread, and was given the following reply and it worked; therefore, just for your information - here it is:

Re: How do I change the time/duration of all clips from the default 5 seconds?
Go to: Edit -> Preferences -> General. Then customize the "Still Image Default Duration". To get seven seconds per image, enter 210 frames if the project is 29.97fps or 168 frames if it is 24fps.
In the future you can post to this forum, for older versions of Premiere.
    It worked great!

    You could add more content.
Or if the project contains stills, these can be lengthened. Double-click on a still photo to open the Clip Inspector. Adjust the duration by typing in the Duration box. Be aware though that if you have transitions either side of the still, you may get odd results with the duration. See this thread for more details:
