Changing my Apple ID username

Apple's KB article HE40 (http://support.apple.com/kb/HE40indicates that) changing one's Apple ID username can be done now.  Has anyone had any success doing this?  In my case, I am not seeing  the same screens shown in this article — the option to edit the username is not presented.  Does anyone have a suggestion for a workaround besides creating a new Apple ID — which seems problematic because it appears that people have had difficulty reusing the same email address. Here are the screen shots of the screens I am seeing...
From the KB article HE40:
From My Apple ID:
And from my Apple Support Community 'edit profile':

I am not sure about the Apple ID aspect of this, maybe someone with more smarts than me will weigh in on that part. But you do need to recognize that the Apple ID and the Apple Support Communities are separate and you can have (and usually do) a different Support Community username than your Apple ID. So, try not to confuse them.
Looking at the article, is your current Apple ID [email protected] or [email protected]?

I changed my apple id username and now it has not changed on my phone

Thank you soooo much!!  I have been trying to figure out how to fix this for ages.  This worked.
I used to synch to my work computer and changed jobs and my home computer does not have a high enough version of Windows for iTunes to synch and I just haven't wanted to invest in that.  I am fine if I can just download directly onto my phone and now I can thanks to you!
    I really appreciate it!

  • I changed my Apple ID Username, but now my daughter's iPod Touch cannot connect and won't take the new sign-in protocols???

I changed my Apple ID Username on my iMac, but now my daughter's iPod Touch cannot sign-in to iTunes, Apps, etc.. The old username sign-in doesn't work either. Apple Store Rep advised using iCloud to back-up her iPod, but have no experience with iCloud - have nevr used it on my iMac. Any info would be helpful.

I would suggest visiting this URL http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/.

  • I recently changed my Apple ID username and password and now get a message each time I open my iPad to enter my Apple ID to continue to receive downloads. However the message shows the old username for my Apple ID.

I recently changed my Email address which required me to change my username for my Apple ID and my password. The changed has been successful, but each time that I open my iPad, I get a message that I need to enter my Apple ID to continue to receive downloads. The problem is that the username that comes up for entry of the password is the OLD Apple ID username. I have entered the old password and then then I am directed that it is not correct and given advice to change my password or username. I can't figure out how to resolve this issue.

If you updated your existing account then try logging out of it on the iPad by tapping on the id in Settings > iTunes & App Stores and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on the iPad.

  • HT204053 how do I change my apple ID username in the app store?

On my iphone, how do I change the apple ID that naturally pops up when I try to update my apps?

If you get a new email address, you can change your Apple ID from your old address to your new address. For more information, follow the steps in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE40
Note: @mac.com and @me.com Apple IDs cannot be renamed.

  • Lost all itunes playlists when I reset my apple ID username

I changed my Apple ID username and now all of my iTunes playlists are gone from my iPhone 5C, however all of my music is still there.  When I log-in to iTunes on my iMac all of my music and playlists are still available.  Why are my playlists gone from my iPhone 5C and how do I restore them?  Thanks!

Try going to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • HT203421 Can't update or open iPhoto after I changed my apple ID

Hi, I changed my apple ID username (i.e. email address) and can no longer open or update iPhoto on my mac. It's linked to my old user ID and won't let me change it even when I'm logged in with my new username in the app store. How do I work around this? Thanks.

    Content and Apple IDs -
Content is forever tied to the Apple ID that bought it. Apple does not transfer content from one Apple ID to another. Apple does not merge Apple IDs. You will never be able to access your content bought with another Apple ID with a new Apple ID.

On MacBook Pro, in iCloud I cannot access Apple ID username to change it, from previous user. Can anyone help?

In System Preferences>iCloud: Sign Out, reboot and then Sign In with your ID and password.
If Find My Mac is switched on you will be unable to sign out without the previous owners password.

Do you mean you kept the same account but you only updated your AppleID?
Just log out and log back in with new ID.
Note that the AppleID is embedded into the item at purchase and cannot be changed.
However, when you change your AppleID, it will link the old account name to the new account name so you will not have any problems updating apps using the new AppleID.

  • Changed Apple ID - username on iPad 4 now disabled

I changed my Apple ID online in the approved manner. Now I can't update or install any apps on my iPad 4 because the old username is still there. It's greyed out, though, and can't be changed, so every time I try to update an app, or install a new one, it tells me my username is incorrect. I have performed a factory reset: the old username is still there, still greyed out.
Can anyone tell me what to do?
    Many thanks,

You can probably change the ID in the "iTunes and App stores" settings on the iPad....click on the wrong account ID , select sign out, then log in with your own ID, I have not done this but I think it works.....
but I would be more inclined to to the factory reset and start afresh.

iOS is only for mobile devices, so:
    Resetting or changing a password:
For Snow Leopard or earlier:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274
    For Lion or later:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6022

If it's running Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier, insert a Mac OS X install DVD, restart with the Option key held down, click on it, and use the Reset Password utility.
If it's running Mac OS X 10.7 or newer, restart with the Command and R keys held down, open the Terminal, and use the resetpassword command:

  • I can change my apple ID for iPad, but my iPhone keeps an ancient one, and I can't change it.

Several years ago I set up a password for AppleStore on my iPhone, but something's gone wrong and it doesn't work.
The right solution seemed to be to get it to match my new iPad AppleStore password (which I guess is just my Apple password).
System support helped me get access to AppleStore working from my iPad.
But my iPhone somehow clings to my ancient outdated username, and I cannot change it in any way that I can find.
I thought that there was just ONE AppleStore password, but I guess not.
I want to make the AppleStore password for my iPhone match my AppleStore password for my iPad.
I changed my Apple password yet again today. (For my current email address, of course.)
How can I get my iPhone to use this new email-address/password also for AppleStore when I try to use my *iPhone*?
(Alas it always prompts me for my password to my outdated, obsolete, and no longer used previous email account.)
    Thanks, LeeCorbin
P.S.  I'm also just guessing about exactly which product and exactly what OS my iPhone using (probably 4 something, and perhaps iOS 6 something, but I sincerely hope that my lack of knowledge of hunting this information down on my iPhone doesn't pose an insuperable problem).

Thank you very much for the helpful start. My Version is 6.1.3 (10B329).
Under settings, however, on my phone there is no "iTunes @ App Stores" so that I can't implement your suggestion.
    Under "General", there is only
        About    Softare Update  Usage
        Siri

        Spotlight Search
        Auto-Lock  Passcode Lock   Restrictions
Date & Time   Keyboard   International   Accessibility
        Reset
So any further suggestion?  Thanks, Lee
