Changing my AppleID or primary email address

Ok so I've recently gotten married and want to update my @me email address to use my married name.  Easy - I have created an alias email and use this.  The problem I'm having is that despite the alias and change in dispaly name at the backend, because my primary email address remains unchanged, for anyone I email who has my unmarried email address, the old Display name appears.
So I need to change my primary email address that is associated with my AppleID.  Because I have an @me address this is seeming more difficult than I had imagined!  Does anyone know how to fix this?  I can't be the first person to get married and want to update their email address.  I'm happy to keep my AppleID the same if necessary but need to ensure my old email address and display name are not showing through on future emails.
Tnx

Easiest thing to do in a situation like this is contact iTunes support, NOT ID support. Explain the situation & ask it they will add these apps to the download queue of this employee's new Apple ID. Use this link:
https://expresslane.apple.com/Issues.action
In my experience, iTunes support will most likely do this & if they do, just delete all the apps tied to the old ID.
Problem solved.

    Hi ccharat,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you did a good job editing your Apple ID and primary email address, but you didn’t sign out of iCloud on your iOS device before hand. What you may need to do in this situation is go back to the Apple ID website and edit your Apple ID and primary email address back to the email address that is signed in with iCloud (there is no need to verify the account after editing it back to the old account, just changing it back is enough). Once your Apple ID is back to the original account, delete the iCloud account from the iOS device and be sure to keep all info on the device when prompted. After you delete the iCloud account, go back to the website and edit your Apple ID and primary email address back to the new address. Once it is back to the account you would like, you can sign into the iCloud on the iOS device with that new account and merge all of the data when prompted. Change your Apple ID temporarily
If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't help, try these steps:
Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
Go to Settings > iCloud. Complete these steps only if the Find My [Device] setting is turned on:
Scroll down and tap Delete Account, then tap Delete to confirm.
Tap “Keep on My [Device]” or “Delete from My [Device].” In either case, your data remains in iCloud and will be updated on your device when you sign in to iCloud again.
Enter the password for your previous Apple ID.
Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
Return to Settings > iCloud and sign in with your new Apple ID.
    I hope this helps,

  • I changed my appleID and primary email and now I can not access anything. iphone shows my old appleID and I can't log in with my old password but I can not log out and log in with new ID. How do I get iphone to work with my updated ID?

My old nternet account was cancelled and with it my emails. I updated my apple id and password in all my devices (ipad, iphone, imac, except for my moms iphone. I am trying to log out from my old account and set her up with her own apple ID and iCloud etc but it does not let me log out. I have a notebook with all my passwords in it so I know for a fact the password for the old ID/ email is correct yet a window keeps popping up that it is incorrect. I have spent hours reading and trying to fix it myself and nothing is working, same window keeps popping up. Any ideas on what to do? I have an iphone 4S, all software up to date and I made sure my moms phone is also updated. Thank you, any help is greatly appreciated.

  • I changed my appleID and primary email and now I can not access iCloud. ICloud shows my old appleID but I can't change it. How do I get iCloud to work with my updated ID?

I Changed my ISP and therefore changed my email address, which caused me to change my appleID.  I had no problems making the changes to my appleID but now I am having problems with iCloud. My old ID is still showing as my iCloud ID and I can not see where or how to change this. I keep getting an annoying pop up box to enter the password for my OLD appleID as well as error messages that I can't back up to iCloud.
CAn someone please tell me how I can fix this so my iCloud works.
    THank you!!!!!

Firstly, you need to change your details with Apple,  Start here, change your country if necessary and go to manage your account.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > iTunes & App store, scroll down and tap your ID)
If you are using iMessages or FaceTime, you will also need to log out and into your ID there too.

  • I recently changed my Apple ID primary email address and now I can't sign into Game Center. It recognizes my new Apple ID but it keep trying to force me to create a new Game Center nickname when I want to keep my old one. How do I fix this?

Just as the title says. How in the world do I fix this?

To migrate your data to a new iCloud account go to Settings>iCloud and turn off all synced data (contacts, calendars, etc.), when prompted choose to keep the data on your phone.  After everything is set to off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  Next, create the new iCloud account on your phone and turn on syncing for contacts, calendars, etc again.  If prompted, choose Merge.  This will upload your data to the new iCloud account.

  • How do I change my primary email address?

I no longer use my primary email address, and want to change it to my currently used one

Typically, your primary email address is your Apple ID. If that is the case with you, then you want to go to Manage your Apple ID and sign in: Apple - My Apple ID
Next to your Apple ID/Primary email Address you will see an Edit button. Click this button to change the Apple ID/Primary email address to the new address.
BEFORE YOU DO THIS: Be sure to sign out of iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, and the iTunes & App Store on your iOS devices and on your computer.
Once you have changed the Apple ID/Primary email address, sign back into each of those apps with the new ID.
    Cheers,

  • Bulk Change UserID and Primary Email Address

    Hi All,
We have just successfully completed Cutover Migration and imported in all users and mailboxes from our existing Exchange 2010 environment into Exchange Online. However we are now wanting to change all UserID and Primary Email Addresses to conform with a
new username strategy. All accounts are currently Cloud Only and we do not have DirSync set up and are not planning to.
Currently the username and email address for a user is in the format [email protected] We want this now to be [email protected] for both logging in and email address. We want to maintain the old Email address as a proxy address. How is this possible?
There are about 500 users, so I need a quick way of doing this with a script?
    Regards,
    Timus

You can connect to Exchange Online via the powershell console.
To add an emailaddress this should work :

  • Apple ID and Primary Email Address

When I installed IOS5 on my iphone and activated icloud, i used my existing AppleID with ".gmail" mail address and at the same time created my new ".me" mail address. All worked perfectly.
Then I tried tu update my AppleId to have my new ".me" mail address as an AppleID and Primary Email Address (instead of the ".gmail" one). Apple refuses this update and I get this message :
"You cannot create an Apple ID using a MobileMe account. If this is your email address, it is also your Apple ID."
I never had a MobileMe account with this AppleID.
Has anyone encountered the problem ?
    Thank you for your answers.

You can change the primary email address on an account via http://appleid.apple.com, the Store > View Account menu option on a computer's iTunes, or by tapping on it in Settings > iTunes & App Store on an iOS device and logging into it

  • How can I change my primary email address to the one that I use for my rescue email address?

I no longer use the email address associated with my apple ID account and the rescue email address I used is now my primary email address for everything, since it its not allowing me to just simply change my email address since its my rescue email address i want it changing to, can it be done and how?! :S Thank you!

You will need to remove it as your rescue email : log into your account via the 'manage your apple id' button on http://appleid.apple.com, select the 'Password And Security' section on your account's screen, and answer the two security questions that show - you should then be taken to another screen where you can change or remove your rescue email address.
Then try logging out of your account and then log back in and see if you can then use it as your primary email address.

  • I show and old defunct email address for my Apple ID on my APP store, iCloud, and iTune accounts and cannot log in.  I am told my ID or password is incorrect.  I did change my primary email address.  that is the app ID that is showing.

How do I rename my App Store, iCloud, and iTunes accounts so i can update apps and software?  I have closed the original email address i started my App Store, icloud, and iTunes account and cannot log in unders that Apple ID.  I have tried going through device and my MacBook Air.  Where can i get on-line assistance?

If you mean you are trying to delete your iCloud account in iOS 7 and you don't know the passwod for the old ID, do one of the following:
If you still have access to your old email address, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email account and verify it.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You should then be able to turn off Find My iPhone with your password. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back and change your primary email address and iCloud ID back to the way it was.  You will then be able to go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current ID and password to reconnect to your iCloud account.
If you don't have access to your old email address, you will have to contact Apple to get them to reset the password for it so you can disable Find My iPhone and sign into your iCloud account.  You will have to prove your identity to them in order to do so.  You can either contact iTunes support for assistance with this (https://ssl.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html), or contact Apple Support (http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/).

I have changed the primary email address and even added an alternative.
But when I made my last purchase it sent the DO-NOT-REPLY itunes receipts to the originaly email address (which is still the appleID)

  • I accidentally screwed up my apple id when trying to change my primary email address. Password recovery options and security questions arent working either to restore

I accidentally screwed up my apple id when trying to change my primary email address. Password recovery options and security questions arent working either to restore. Created a new appleid just to get into forums to ask a question but hesitate to sync itunes and iphone with it as i may lose all purchased music apps etc. can anyone help? i have received no email response frm apple support, it's been over 48 hours

I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account.  I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there.  On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back.  Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email.  The device is currently useless.
The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option?

  • Issue when changing primary email address of Apple ID

I consider this mail as bug report of how Apple handles multiple email addresses on Apple ID.
    Pre setup:
    Primary email: "email address"
    Additional address: "email address 2"
Iphone installed with "email address" and
Steps to do on appleid web page:
1 - Change password (was forced)
2 - Remove "email address 2" from additional mail addresses list
3 - Change apple ID primary "email address" to -> "email address 2"
4 - Add "email address" to additional addresses list
    Result:
    Primary email: "email address 2"
    Addidional address: "email address"
When you try use iPhone, it asks login to iCloud (correct behavior, password has been changed). But iPhone does not ask for login, it asks password for "email address".
If you try remove "email address" iCloud account, iPhone asks password for "email address" to remove "Find my phone". Device cannot be removed from iCloud web page so iPhone is "locked" to "email address", and this cannot be changed.
Alternative Apple ID "[email protected]", also listed on additional email addresses list. You CAN'T change alternate Apple ID, but you CAN remove "[email protected]" from additional mail list. This must be bug!
Another bug: You CAN'T select primary email address from 'additional mail addresses' list, you MUST remove address from list first, then you can change primary address to that removed address. You should able to use own verified address as primary apple id address.
Also removed addresses must be re-verified every time after removing.
Guess what happens when we have several iPhones/iPads on our household?

I had a similar problem, which prevented me changing my personal data on iCloud/apple etc. I found the answer on the apple web-site, "appleid.apple.com".
This site lets you change your primary country, and so lets you use the app store.
