I have to share this because it worked for me.
I was having trouble viewing YouTube videos because of very slow loading times. I was advised to change my dns setting and like magic-- YouTube flows smoothly now!
But what is "dns"? Will changed setting affect anything else?
I was ready to take my iPad back because this was a deal breaker for me but now...I may just keep it!

DNS is the Domain Name Service, and it's used to translate Internet network addresses into names.
Computers on the Internet, from servers down to your iPad, have to have an identifying address so that they can receive message properly. Internet addresses look like this:
123.123.123.001
Which is fine if you're a router, but hopeless if you're a person. DNS associates a name (e.g www.megacorp.com) with the address. When you enter the name the server resolves it to the address.
There are lots of DNS servers doing this: ISPs have them, big companies have them, and there are public ones (e.g Google and OpenDNS). They sometimes get out of sync, so changing DNS can fix some odd problems

If the MS Exchange ActiveSync port had been changed, how to set up the iPad Mail account?

Hi all,
The default MS Exchange ActiveSync port is 443 but due to security reason it had been changed.
Under this situation how to set up the iPad Mail account?
I could not find out the port modification area in iPad account settings.
Or any other apps are suitable for multiple accounts within 1 domain?
That means i can use this app for more than 1 email accounts within 1 exchange server.
I had tried eMailGanizer. It could allow you to modify the port number but if you need to send email you still need to set up the account in Apple mail first.
I tried Outlook Mail but could not allow multiple accounts within 1 domain.
I tried Mail Access 2010 but it could not display the emails in the server.
Please help!

Next test
using Outlook.com I just deleted an email
    by clicking the Trash icon that appears
      when hovering near an email subject
        in the list of emails.
Then I clicked the Send/Receive button
in Apple Mail.
The email disappeared from the Inbox listing
in Apple Mail.
The email is listed in the Deleted Folder
within Apple Mail.
The email also appears in Outlook.com
within the Deleted Folder
I'm not seeing an equivalent operation in Outlook.com
to perform the Erase Deleted items
    such as Apple Mail provides..
There was momentarily a "Sweep to Delete"
animation that appeared and is now gone..
Pomme is correct.. by selecting "Erase Deleted Items"
within Apple Mail does not clear the Deleted Folder
    when the email was first deleted using Outlook.com
Now I'm seeing further synch problems in that deleting in Outlook.com
The emails disappear from Apple Mail Inbox,
    but do not appear within the Apple Mail Deleted Folder..
      (as it did with the first message I deleted using Outlook.com)
Yes.. there is some synchronizing problems..
I just exited Apple Mail, and restarted it, synched
and now all messages deleted from Outlook.com
    appear within Apple Mail Deleted Folder..
For Outlook.com the equivalent operation to Erase Deleted Items
Is to click the Trash icon next to the emails
    within the Deleted Folder..
Moral of the story is for Apple Mail
periodically select Erase Deleted Items
and for Outlook.com
    periodically look in the Deleted Folder
      and delete those emails (that you already deleted)
        a second time..

I changed my apple id on my ipad, but updates won't download

I changed the Apple ID on my Ipad(8.1.3) to make it the same as my iMac Apple ID. Now, although it shows the app updates, it won't download them When I tap on update, the little gearish wheels spins for ages, but nothing down loads.

Yes. You can either set up your new iPad from a back-up of your old iPad, or you can select any apps bought via iTunes to be installed into the new iPad. If you go with the restore, everything like levels and the like on games is restored too. If you install fresh, then some things don't come over, even though you've loaded the apps.
anyway, it's not something to worry about.

If you want to use multiple devices - move to imap, I would even say "exchange", but Google does not support free exchange anymore, since January of that year. So Ironically Icloud or Hotmail would be my choices right now.

Different services on your iOS device (iMessage, Facetime, iCloud, iTunes and App Store) can be signed into with an Apple ID of your choice. Make sure you verify the settings for each device and that you are signed in to each service with the correct Apple ID.
I'll do an example for iMessage:
1) Go to settings on your iOS device
2) Select "Messages"
3) Select "Send & Receive"
4) At the very top you will see "Apple ID", by selecting your Apple ID, you will now have the option to sign out of messages with the current Apple ID, and sign in with the new one.
The steps for changing your Apple ID for other services will be very similar.

With iTunes 11 you can enable the left-hand sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC. When the iPad is plugged in it should then appear on that left-hand sidebar under 'Devices' so that you can select it, and then use the tabs on the right-hand side of the screen to select what to sync to it.

What's the advantage or disadvantage of setting the DNS number in system preferences the same as the DNS number of the router?

Usually, if the computer is DHCP, the DNS will be configured automatically, so it will make no difference.
