Changing Name in Finder & I lost  all of my photographs...sort of.

Sequence of events
1.In my Finder my home folder is called Matthew (my real name)
2. This morning I renamed it to Matthew & Vanessa (my partners name)
3. This afternoon I opend Safari and noticed all of my bookmarks had gone and my homepage had reverted to apple.com - "This is odd" I thought. My history is ok.
4. I looked in my iphoto - EMPTY!! 1000+ photographs gone! "This cannot be happening".
5. The contents of my Documents folders and the folders/files in there seemed to be ok. I looked at the last letter I remember writing and that was stil there.
6. All Microsoft Office icons have dissappered from the Dock
7. When I opend Entourage, it behaved as if it was the first time I was opening it. All information from there had gone.
8. Upon investigation I found both a "Matthew" folder and a Matthew & Vanessa" Folder in Macintosh HD/Users. They use different icons; Matthew is a house Matthew & Vanessa is a folder.
9. Their contents seem to be the same with one exception. In Macintosh HD/Users/Matthew & Vanessa/Pictures/iphoto library there is an /originals folder that seems to have all of my photos in. This folder does not exist taking the same path through Matthew/Pictures/iphoto library etc.
Questions
How can I revert back to the happy position I was in this morning with my photos in iphoto?
1. Can I reverse the change in name I made and restructure the contents to what it was
OR
2. Do I have to re-import and start again fro the stated path/folder above?
3. Is it possible to change the name of the home folder? I would never have thought such a simple act would have such a catastrophic outcome. It feels like I have opened a new folder altogether; which has prioirity over everything else.

  • Changed name of home and lost all app config

    I changed the name of my home folder from "matthewcrossley" to "mjc". Much to my dismay I lost all of my safari bookmarks and configurations. Mail also asks me to set it up all over again. I had a highly personalized machine and would like to undue the damage I have done. Any ideas what has happened and how to fix it?
    powerbook G4 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Instead of using those instructions, open the NetInfo Manager application in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder; next, click the padlock and type in your administrator password. In the list of users, locate the matthewcrossley account's home property, and change this to '/Users/mjc' without the quote marks. Don't alter or delete any other accounts, properties, or groups. Log out and back in to restore your data while keeping the new home folder name.

  • I changed my apple id and lost all my music...

    i have changed my apple id and lost all my music other than about 20 songs...i had about 700

    Did you "change your Apple ID" using this process?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5621
    If not, you might mean you created a new Apple ID to start using instead of your old one.  In that case, your old Apple ID owns all the music, and your new one does not.

    I recently changed my e-mail in my iTunes account information, which is also my apple ID and I have lost all my purchased music.  How can I get all my purchases back?

    YES!
    I can access the old account by changing password BUT can't see my purchases listed...
    Any suggestions?

  • Changed HDD in NAS Drive, lost all links

    Hello world,
    I keep all photos in separate directory structure (16.000 photos in 140 directories), and have the mediathek on the local drive.
    Now I have changed the HDDs in my NAS drive (dLink DNS 323, connection via smb), and restored all folders from a backup. In the finder I can see all photos (randomly tested).
    Although the share-name and the user-ID are set up the same as before, Aperture lost the connection to all photos.
    I am not going to believe that I have to refresh the links to every single photo...
    Any idea anyone?
    Greetings from Germany

    Hello,
    usually using "Reconnect All" should suffice to reconnect all files, if you restored your library from a backup.
    But I am not quite sure, how you restored your library - do I understand this correctly:
    Your Aperture Library (Mediathek in german) is on the system drive?
    Your referenced master image files / original image files are on a NAS drive?
    You had to replace the drives in the NAS and restored from backup?
    Then your estored files are no longer identical to the files Aperture is referencing, and you will have to reconnect.
    In the long term the NAS setup might be risky; Apple recommends to keep the Aperture library on a local volume, MacOS X extended formatted - your NAS is neither local nor MacOS X extended, see this Support Article:
         Aperture: Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library:
          http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3252
    To reconnect your images quickly:
    Make sure your NAS is properly mounted.
    Create a smart album containing all referenced images:
    File > New > Smart Album
    Add rule: File status is referenced  (or offline, or missing)
    Select all images in the smart album.
    From Aperture's  main menu bar select:   File > Locate referenced files
    in the "Referenced Files" panel you see two panes:
    In the upper pane select the first image with a missing original (master) image file.
    In the lower pane point the File chooser to the location of the master on your NAS.
    Now the "Reconnect" buttons should appear. Press "Reconnect All". If you are lucky, this will reconnect all missing original files at once.
    Good Luck, und "Hummel Hummel" aus Hamburg von der Waterkant!

  • HELP! I changed my desktop photo and lost all photos and music!

    I swear, all i did was put a pretty picture of lightening (that was in Apple's list of stock photos to choose from BTW!) on my desktop. It might as well have been real lightening because iPhoto doesn't have any of my pictures in it and iTunes doesn't have any of my music. When I open these folders, I can find the content there, but why did it disappear from the programs AND if I change my desktop back, will the pics/tunes come back?!?! I can live without the photos but the music and movies!!!! I have it all on my iPhone but now I am afraid to "sync" it to my computer.
    Perhaps something easy like "import"?

    Well, I ended up just dragging and dropping my music back into iTunes and it recopied them but all playlists are gone... oh well. As far as I can tell, all purchased music is there as well.
    As far as the photos, I can see and open them in the pictures file (with the album titles and all) with Preview, but I tried to drag and drop those as well, but it was saying there was an error and it couldn't read them or something like that. I know, I should have written the error message down... rookie mistake. Just to test, I tried to upload a picture from the folder to a website, but when I went to browse for the picture it didn't recognize any of them.
    I also repaired permissions (there were alot!) a couple of times until there were none. That didn't seem to work... I am so frustrated. They are all there on the hard drive but they wont go into iPhoto.
    I think the worst part is... why did this happen and what to avoid so it won't happen again. I can't believe it is just because I changed the background on my desk top. After I did it, many of my regular sites like webmail didn't recognize me when I visited and I had to answer a bunch of my security questions again. Its as if they don't recognize this is the same computer just because it has a different screen saver!!! If all this really is because of that, it is a major design flaw. Why put the option to change if it is going to throw the whole system into a tailspin?
    I am sure it is something I did wrong... just venting.
    Anyway, how to get the photos imported back into iPhoto... any more ideas?

  • Started a new apple id but lost all my movies can i get them back

    i started a new apple id and deleted my old one only to find i lost all my movies can they be retrieved.

    All content that you download from the store is tied to the account that downloaded it. Depending upon what country that you are in (and whether you've changed countries since buying the films), then if the films are still in your country's store (and those film studios allow redownloading) then you might be able to log into your old account and redownload them via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your computer's iTunes.
    Logging into an account and redownloading its purchases may tie your computer to that account for 90 days : iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID - so you won't be able to use iTunes Match, automatic downloads or redownload your new account's purchases until the 90 days have completed (it shouldn't affect new purchases). And, depending upon what you've already done with your new account, you may already be in a 90 day association to that account.

  • Error: Find criteria must contain at least one sort field value.

    Hi
    I am getting the followng error in Sort.as when I click on a column in a DataGrid that is bound to a nested property (e.g. parent.name)
    Error: Find criteria must contain at least one sort field value.
    I can see why this is failing.
    In the findItem function of Sort.as the code tests whether there is data in line (456) hasFieldName = values[fieldName] !== undefined. This fails and so an error is raised later in the function by:
         if (fieldsForCompare.length == 0)     {
         message = resourceManager.getString("collections", "findRestriction");
              throw new SortError(message);     }
     The code needs to traverse down the object hierarchy to get the field so that error is not thrown .
    The code needs to traverse down the object hierarchy to get the field so that error is not thrown .
    In the case of a non nested property, everything works fine.
    There is lots of discussion about nested properties in DataGrid and there is this jira:
    http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/SDK-9801
    There is talk of using a labelFunction or an itemRenderer and other third party solutions (extensions of DataGridColumn).
    Is this a bug?  is there a workaround using labelFunction or itemRenderer which can stop the error in Sort.as?
    James
    Here is the code of findItem in Sort.as of SDK 3..4.0.9271
    public
    function findItem(items:Array,values:Object,
    mode:String,
    returnInsertionIndex:Boolean =
    false,compareFunction:Function =
    null):int{
    var compareForFind:Function;
    var fieldsForCompare:Array;
    var message:String;
    if (!items){
    message = resourceManager.getString(
    "collections", "noItems");
    throw new SortError(message);}
    else if (items.length == 0){
    return returnInsertionIndex ? 1 : -1;}
    if (compareFunction == null){
    compareForFind =
    this.compareFunction;
    // configure the search criteria
    if (values && fieldList.length > 0){
    fieldsForCompare = [];
    //build up the fields we can compare, if we skip a field in the
    //middle throw an error. it is ok to not have all the fields
    //though
    var fieldName:String;
    var hadPreviousFieldName:Boolean = true;
    for (var i:int = 0; i < fieldList.length; i++){
    fieldName = fieldList[i];
    if (fieldName){
    var hasFieldName:Boolean;
    try
    hasFieldName = values[fieldName] !==
    undefined;}
    catch(e:Error){
    hasFieldName =
    false;}
    if (hasFieldName){
    if (!hadPreviousFieldName){
    message = resourceManager.getString(
    "collections", "findCondition", [ fieldName ]);
    throw new SortError(message);}
    else
    fieldsForCompare.push(fieldName);
    else
    hadPreviousFieldName =
    false;}
    else
    //this is ok because sometimes a sortfield might
    //have a custom comparator
    fieldsForCompare.push(
    null);}
    if (fieldsForCompare.length == 0){
    message = resourceManager.getString(
    "collections", "findRestriction");
    throw new SortError(message);}
    else
    try
    initSortFields(items[0]);
    catch(initSortError:SortError){
    //oh well, use the default comparators...
    else
    compareForFind = compareFunction;

    I have tried a sortCompareFunction:
    var sort:Sort = new Sort();
    sort.compareFunction = compareFunction;sort.fields = [sortField];
    data.sort = sort;
    data.refresh();
    this makes no difference.

    ipod touch just lost all wi-fi capabilities. full restore as new ipod did nothing to change it. • I have lost all my contacts after changing my icloud account name ...... please help

    can anybody please help ?? i have lost all my contacts after changing my i cloud name, i had to delete the old one and now i have lost all contacts ???

    Well there is a warning. However it is designed that your computer is the MAIN place for your contacts. The concept of syncing is that the phone gets "copies" of your real data (your phone is not the primary source, your computer is).
    So if your computers address book you sync with has no contacts, then it will erase contacts on your phone because you have no contacts (dumb yes, but that is how it goes).
    It warns when there will be major changes to your primary contacts (your address book on computer).
    Now if you had at least 1 contact on your computer, it would of "merged" them (thus bringing over what is on the phone and bringing that one over to the phone).
    The assumption is when you opt to sync contacts, that you have contacts on the computer you are syncing with and thus your primary place for contacts you maintain.

  • Lost all my Sent Messages / How can I find them?

    I lost all my Sent Messages and I need them very much!! How can I recover them?
    CRISMADRI

    Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
    Are you using Mac Mail or internet based like Yahoo or GMail?
    If it's Mac Mail, with the Mail application open, from the Menu Bar click Mail/Preferences/Accounts/Mailbox Behaviors. You will see Drafts, Sent, Junk and Trash. Where it says Sent, do you have the button selected where it says: Store sent messages on the server. ???
    This from the Mac Mail Help Viewer:
    I can't find email messages stored on the mail server
    If you have an IMAP email account and you set the account preferences to store copies of messages (draft, sent, junk, or trash) on the IMAP mail server, you might experience situations in which your messages are not stored where you expected.
    When Mail attempts to store messages on the server, it looks for specific mailboxes, by name, in which to put the messages. If Mail doesn't find those mailboxes on the server, it tries to create them. If Mail can't create them on the server, it can't store the messages. For example, Mail looks on the server for a mailbox called Sent Messages in which to put the sent messages. If Mail can't find a Sent Messages mailbox on the server, it tries to create one. If it cannot, it doesn't save copies of messages you send. You might be able to address this issue if there is another mailbox on the IMAP server (for example, Sent Items) that contains the messages you're looking for. You can have Mail use that mailbox to store its sent messages. To do so, select that mailbox (listed under the account's name and icon) in the Mail viewer window, choose Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For and then choose Drafts, Junk, Sent, or Trash, as applicable. You can select any mailbox on your IMAP server to use to store draft, sent, junk, or deleted messages.
    If you change the account preferences to no longer store copies of messages on the mail server, you'll see that messages aren't where they used to be. To use sent messages as an example: If you were saving sent messages on the server and then change your settings to save those messages on your computer, the Sent mailbox will change to contain only messages stored on your computer; messages that were stored on the server will no longer appear in that mailbox. Instead, you'll see those messages are now located under the account's name and icon at the bottom of the list of mailboxes, in a mailbox called Sent Messages. Similarly, if you change from saving sent messages on your computer to saving them on the server, the Sent Messages mailbox will change to contain only messages stored on the server. You'll now see the messages that were saved on your computer in a mailbox called Sent Messages, followed by the account name in parentheses, such as Sent Messages (.Mac Account).

  • My Contacts File in Applications has lost all name and addresses - how can I retrieve them?

    Out of the blue my Contacts File in Applications has lost all my names and addresses.  Is there any way I can retrieve them?  On my back-up systems they don't appear either.  Panic!
    Lecia

    Hello again
    Alothogh I could not find help on any of the Communities (that I could acyually understand) - I haven't a clue what I have just done but ALL my addresses have now shown up in Contacts.  Wish I knew what I had 'clicked" to achieve this - but as I have been "clicking" just about everything in sight - I am not sure what did the magic trick.
    Maybe, although I have answered my own query, someone could perhaps tell me what may have happened?  I THINK it was something to do with iCloud --- which is something I don't understand AT ALL!

  • Wrong Button Name in Find/Change-Dialogue

    The button "Find/Change" in the Find/Change-Dialogue has a wrong name. Its behaviour is just the opposite: First it changes, then it searches again. The correct name can only be: "Change/Find".
    (This is part of the Wishlist already and published elsewhere.)

    Ok, I was to quick, sorry. I did not check the english version. I was talkin about the german version. So it is clear: The english version is correct, the german localisation is wrong. This is one of the many, many translation errors of the German Version.
    Is there anybody out there at Adobe who is able to take in such hints regarding the german version? I could collect all and send them in german (!).
