Changing NAT settings to be less restrictive

I have a PS3 and Xbox360 and they both say my Airport Extreme is using a restrictive "type 3" NAT setting that can interfere with online gaming and chat. What settings can I change to get my APX to play nicer with my game consoles?

Unfortunately, the AirPorts are not listed as Xbox Live-compatible routers.
The following web blog does a great job explaining the NAT issues with Xbox Live. Basically what it comes down to is that although you can get an Internet connection for the Xbox 360 with the AirPorts, you may not get the necessary NAT setting (Moderate or Open) for the Xbox Live game that you want to play. As such, Port mapping may be required to allow Xbox Live access.
The following ports must be available for Xbox Live to operate correctly:
• UDP 88
• UDP 3074
• TCP 3074
To setup port mapping on an 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN port of the AEBSn, and then use the AirPort Utility, in Manual Setup, to make these settings:
1. Reserve a DHCP-provided IP address for the host device.
Internet > DHCP tab
o On the DHCP tab, click the "+" (Add) button to enter DHCP Reservations.
o Description: <enter the desired description of the host device>
o Reserve address by: MAC Address
o Click Continue.
o MAC Address: <enter the MAC (what Apple calls Ethernet ID if you are using wired or AirPort ID if wireless) hardware address of the host computer>
o IPv4 Address: <enter the desired IP address>
o Click Done.
2. Setup Port Mapping on the AEBSn.
Advanced > Port Mapping tab
o Click the "+" (Add) button
o Service: <choose the appropriate service from the Service pop-up menu>
o Public UDP Port(s): <enter the appropriate UDP port values>
o Public TCP Port(s): <enter the appropriate TCP port values>
o Private IP Address: <enter the IP address of the host server>
o Private UDP Port(s): <enter the same as Public UDP Ports or your choice>
o Private TCP Port(s): <enter the same as Public TCP Ports or your choice>
o Click "Continue"

  • Changing nat settings to open on basestation (dual ethernet) for xbox 360

i have a airport basestation (dual ethernet) and i have my xbox 360 plugged into the back using a ethernet cable and i have tried everything i know to open the nat(network address translation)
settings and i tried everything i know to open a port but i am appearantly doing something wrong.... can anyone help?? please... my xbox connects to xbox live but i can play with very few people because of the nat setting.... suggestions?

jfinley1, Welcome to the discussion area!
This "open NAT" is a relatively new thing not supported by the dual Ethernet AirPort base station (ABS).
How have you tried to map/forward/open a port?

  • I have the 890l an want change nat settings to so can play xbox 360 how i go about it

    help

    Let me clarify.
Xbox will work, but you will not be able to host any games since you do not have a public IP Address.  NAT forces your IP Address to look the same as everyone on the VZW network, there is no way for your friends to initiate a proper connection to you but you can reach out and play with them just fine.  While home routers provide NAT (192.168.x.x) networks, a more traditional service provider will still assign the modem a public IP Address.  When you have a public IP then you can configure your router to forward specific traffic onto one device or another making them publicly available on the web.   A public IP also means that the port forwarding functionality on your router will be enabled too.
Hopefully you can see that getting a public IP is the main problem here.  Until then the features on the devices themselves will be at the mercy of the main VZW firewall policies back at home base.  You need to remove yourself from the VZW network entirely if you want to host Xbox and that is where the VPN comes in.  VPN will tunnel all of your traffic through an already open port in the VZW firewall and virtually place you on a different providers network (one you hope has public IP and ports available).
You could also pony up $500 for a static and public IP address from VZW, but most don't value that kind of an investment.
If your employees are doing work with the 890L in the field then set them up with a corporate VPN and tunnel them back to your office network where everything is allowed.  This is how we operate with our JetPacks and it works just fine.

  • Changing Nat settings from moderate to Open

    How do I do this.

I guess you want to do this for using the x-box with the router. For this , access the router from the wired computer using http://192.168.1.1 . The default password is admin
On the web ui , click on the "Applications and Gaming" tab and forward port 88 and 3074 for the ip add of the x-box .
Go to the "setup" tab and change the MTU size to 1365

  • How do i change my NAT settings on my wrt54gs wireless router?

when i go to play Halo 3 it says my NAT settings are strict and it lets me in the room but then it boots me right out. I was wondering how i change my NAT settings from strict to open?
    Thanks,

Usually when you have NAT problems with xbox live it is because you dont have the ports forwarded. Here is the artical from Microsoft on this issue. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908874 Message Edited by JjEjFjF on 05-18-2008 08:26 PM You should also set the MTU as discribed above. If it were an MTU issue, you would have gotten an MTU failure on the xbox connection test.

  • How do I change my NAT settings?

    WRT54GS router
How do I change my NAT settings?

Ok let me ask this. Can anyone tell me exactly what settings I need to put my WRT54GS router on for my 360. Ports, DNS, QoS, MTU, or anything else that might help. Please leave in detail as I am very ignorant with this router. I had Verizon DSL that went straight from a Westell modem/router to the 360. I never had lag and was host for a lot of sessions. I have now switched to cable which gives me a faster connection 4664/238kbps but for some reason the lag is horrible. What I have done so far is download new firmware. Enabled DMZ host IP address. Enabled QoS. Here I had to put the upstream bandwith to manual with 100000kbps. Port priority on high with flow control enabled to the 360(port 2). I disabled flow control to 2 unused ports. Optimize gaming applications with highest priority to port 2. So I am completely lost from here as what else to do or undo. I don't know how to increase my upload speed as I was told upload speed is extremely important for gaming. I feel like pulling my hair out at this point and switching back to a slower connection just to get my system the way it was. Please anyone help as I am extremely frustrated. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????

  • How do I change the settings in quick time player to screen record video using less hard drive space?

how do I change the settings in quick time player to use less hard drive space when performing a screen record? When I screen record a video lets say from vimeo, QTP seems to use a lot of hard drive space.  Please help.  Are there settings some where to adjust to slim down the video size? Thanks for your input.

I just did a short SR test, first I exported to 480p, then I saved the file. Now I have 2 files one 11.9mb (export) and the other 42.8mb (save). I then took the save file and performed an export on it to 480p.  Guess what, it saved at 11.9mb.  So it seemed to save me 3/4 of the space.  Lets see what happens with a 17 minute SR.  Thanks!
Any suggestions on getting the sound louder with the SR?
For anyone else ever seeing this post, for me the best was using an external speaker whether wired or bluetooth, facing the left side of the computer where the internal mic hole is.   Good Luck!

  • CAN YOU ALTER NAT SETTINGS ON THE AIRPORT EXTREME

Can you alter the NAT settings on the airport extreme by any chance and if possible, how do you do this please.
    Kind regards in advance.

Really confused here so I will start at the begining.
Right now I can access xbox live but only talk to certain friends and others cant hear me. This has been getting worse over the weekend. I can send messages no problem but I cant join a freinds game or chat but can send them messages.
Everything worked like a charm until I made some changes that are listed below
Had the airport extreme connected via adsl then my g5 mac picks the signal wireless. The xbox has a wireless adaptor so that also worked like charm unitl my changes below.
1, I upgarded to Tiger 2 weeks ago from panther
2, Sent the old ethernet cable from the old xbox 1 that was still atached to the airport extreme into a joytech multi component switcher that has 6 ethernet ports linked to each component channel. We have 2 xbox 360's and a ps3 and a wii for the kids so not enough components out in the tv.
3, Removed the ethernet cable out of the 360 and put the wireless adaptor back on, (after discovering the problem) re set the xbox to make it see the wireless bridge and now this..
Confused, not as much as me
Anyone please help as I have no idea what to do as I can talk to some people and not others.
I ran a test on the 360 and it stated my nat SETTINGS ARE MODERATE, they should be less, is there a way of altering the NAT settings on a g5 mac or airport extreme??
Really be happy for any advice or help from you all.
    Thanks for trying

    - To fix yourself see:

It says where to get parts.
    - Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99, $149 or $199 depending upon the capacity.
    - A third-party place may be less expensive. Here is one, Google for more.

It's not the comment field which is a restrictive description.
In fact it's the window's background.

  • The "read" emails in one of my 3 email accounts have disappeared. I changed no settings and checked the view and they are gone. I need them back! Help!

Suddenly my main email account is not showing the emails I've kept in line...the other accounts haven't changed at all. I changed no settings, checked everything, no tags are in place. I shut down the program and opened it and nothing. I need those messages back! Where could they be??? Thank you in advance for any help you can give me!

There are several possible reasons that messages seem to 'disappear'.
There are two types of email accounts: IMAP and POP. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/glossary-terms-including-types-accounts
If you have a POP account and are accessing the mail on more than one computer or smartphone, whichever device reads (downloads) the message first will have it locally, but it will no longer be listed or available on the other devices.
If you have an IMAP account, the message stays on the server, but if one device (user) moves or deletes the message, it will affect the view on all devices. So, for example, if you are using your smartphone and take some action on an email, when you get back to your computer, it will reflect that same action (but you might not have realized what caused it).
Sometimes the index of a mail folder (.msf) will get corrupted. If you right click on the name of the folder and select Properties, a 'Folder Properties' window will open. Select 'Repair Folder'. This may take care of the problem.
Another, less likely, reason for messages not to show up in your inbox is having the preference set to show only unread or recent messages. Then once you read them they seem to disappear.
If you are still having problems, please look at the following items and respond with the information.
    1) What operating system do you use (Win8, MAC, Linux, etc)?
    2) Are you using IMAP or POP?
    3) If your mail server has a browser interface (web mail access such as mail.google.com), do the messages show up there?
    4) Right click on the folder in question and select Properties.
    a) Number of messages?
    b) Size on disk?
    5) Left click on the account name; View settings for this account; highlight Server settings;
What choices are marked under "When I delete a message"?
    6) What, if any, antivirus program do you have installed?

  • How can I change the settings in my time capsule to support UPnP?

Trying to change the settings on my time capsule to support UPnP so I might remotely access 3rd party software.  Any suggestions?

Apple routers do not support UPnP.  They do support NAT-PMP, but that requires that you manually enter in the port values to set up what is known as Port Mapping.
But, first things first. is the Time Capsule set up as the DHCP and NAT router for the network, or do you have another router upstream from the Time Capsule on the network?
Another way to ask the same question......what is the make and model number of the device that you call your "modem"?

  • Trouble using open NAT Settings with Airport Extreme

I recently got an Xbox 360 and Xbox live. I have the Xbox wired directly to the Airport. Although the Xbox can connect to the internet, the process of finding other players is extremely slow. It can take up to ten minutes to find a game on Halo 3 for example. I quickly figured out that this problem is a result of the NAT settings on my Airport being set to strict by default. The Airport Admin Utility does not allow me to change the NAT settings to Moderate, it simply allows me to turn off NAT altogether. When I do that, it prompts me to manually enter several IP addresses, none of which I know. I have tried several addresses, and the Airport admin utility will accept them, but after I do this I am unable to connect to the internet at all, so my only option is to turn NAT back on.
It doesn't make sense to me that a device as well designed as the Airport would not at least give the user the option of changing their NAT settings to moderate or turn NAT off completely. I'm sure there is a way to accomplish this, does anyone know how?

Having similar problems, mine is XBox Live kicking me out during Halo games and showing a red connection (low). The Xbox seems to be connecting fineto eth airport (802.11n), so I think it has somethignto do with teh connection settings from the airport to the Internet (Comcast). It also takes a long time to set players. I have been looking for a good website for setting Airport configurations for XBox 360 and XBox Live. Has anyone found one?

  • Xbox One nat settings

Xbox One has moderate nat settings, got honehub 5, any idea how to fix? Help would be appreciated!

There are reports on xbox forums that going into the settings app, changing the power settings to energy saving mode, switching off console, rebooting router then switching console back on has fixed nat settings for some people.
also if its only call of duty giving you a moderate nat then you should forward port 3075 to the xbox one
