Changing Order of Songs in Album-iTunes 12

Like the title says, how do I change the order of songs in a album? Before you could use get info and sort by track number.
Thanks

Hey Lando25,
I understand that you want to change order of songs that are playing in iTunes. This functionality should still be available to you, as confirmed in this article:
iTunes 12 for Mac: Edit song and CD information
https://support.apple.com/kb/PH19618
You may need to simply scroll in the information field in order to find the fields that you wish to edit. Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!

  • Changes order of songs within album on iPod playback

My iPod classic now decides for itself what the order of songs on an album should be. The songs are listed in the correct order, but it essentially does a shuffle play when you go from one song to the next. Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem. The songs on the album are ordered correctly in iTunes, I checked the number in "Get Info" and that was correct. When I update my iPod Classic, they're all out of order.

  • Why can't I change the order of songs in my iTunes library?

If I create a playlist I can change the order of songs but I can't change the order in the Library. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks

That's the normal intended behaviour of the Library. I'm not exactly sure why it is, but I guess it's to make it clear to users that if they want to "fine tune" the tracks they should use a playlist (just like you can't use the burn button in the library).
I'm sure you've noticed that you can still sort the library by clicking the headings.

  • How to change order of songs played

I want to change the order of songs in a particular album in my general music library. I tried changing the track number, but it does not seem to do anything. Any help?
    Thanks in advance.

Changing the track numbers should be enough IF the Album and Artist or Album Artist fields are identical for each track.
I just solved a similar issue for someone -- see http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4035849

  • Having problems with order of songs on albums.

I want to add a track to an album that wasn't originally on said album (bonus track on the UK release of the album). I've changed the song and album info (listed the song as track 15 of 15, changed number of tracks on the album from 14 to 15, etc.), but when I look at the album, the song stays on top unless I list the songs by track number (which is fine when I'm just looking at the album, but it doesn't help at all when I'm looking at my whole library).
So, how do I get iTunes to think this song is part of the album and move it to the end of the album where it belongs?

iTunes seems to sort the album by the Date Added.
One way to get around it is to drag all the songs from the album to the desktop, delete them from iTunes and add them back.
If you want to keep the original date added, first change the computer date to match, add them back then change the computer date to normal.
This sorting is supposed to have been fixed in iTunes 7.3.1.

  • Can't edit a specific playlist and change order of songs.

I set up a new playlist and am unable to move the songs around to the order I want. My other playlists are letting me edit/move around the order without a problem. How can I access the edit feature for my "blocked" playlist.

If you want to order your songs manually select your playlist and display your playlist in the browser,
then click on the header row - the small triangle in the leftmost column.
Then you should be able to drag your songs into the correct order.

  • Change order of songs on itunes

How do I change the order of the songs in itunes? I have albums out of chronological order and want to move them so that when I play all the songs from a band on my IPOD it plays them from the first to last. Thanks for any help.

In addition to what macmenno said, if you want to sort your albums in chronological order, then you need to make sure there is a date in the date field. If there is not, or not for all tracks for an album, select all the tracks and press Commend-I to bring up the Get Info box. Fill in the date and close the box. The change will be applied to all tracks. If you have your Library sorted on Album, you can easily select all the tracks by clicking on the top track and shift-clicking on the bottom one.
The second thing to consider concerning chronological order is which date to use and how consistent do you want to be in dates? The original vinyl release date? A reissue date? The first issue date of the cd? For albums that have only been issued on cd, this should not be a problem, but there have been plenty of discussions here concerning reissues and ports to cd.

  • How do you change the order of songs on ur itunes??

yeah, some of my album tracks are out of order, id like to change that, any ideas?

    Are you sorting by album?
Also, right click a song and go to get info. Make sure the track number is correct.

  • Order of songs in album retained in iTunes 6? Oldest OS for iTunes 7?

I still have iTunes 6 until I can make sure I can move up to an OS supporting all my current software and hardware (including digidesign 001 which interfaces my monitor speakers through a card in the back of my computer).
I notice that in iTunes 6, as I go and archive my music collection, songs are listed without the track number, and you only see the track number if you go to Get Info. I'm a little nervous that I'll lose track of which song belongs where in the album. Does iTunes 6 automatically keep them in track order within a single cd/album when I order the library by Artist name? And same for iTunes 7? This will also be pertinent when I archive my old vinyl albums to my hard drive.
As for iTunes 7, what is the earliest operating system it works with? Panther or Tiger? I'll try looking these questions up too. I'm also interested in what advantages iTunes 7 offers over iTunes 6.
I have had Panther and ilife 04 for a long time but not installed them due to concerns about my software not all being compatible. Eventualy I will be buying a new Leopard mac laptop and so all this worry about having the latest and greatest will be taken care of at that time, later in the spring. But for what's on my G4 at the moment, it's still Jaguar and it works with all my software and hardware. I'll inquire with digidesign about whether I can use Panther with my digi 001.

I also have two other questions. i can't yet find it in the Help file for iTunes 6 but I am not sure what the "part of a compilation" checkbox is for and why it can't tell itself. I have had two types of compilations: one where it's a single disc with various artists and one where it's a multi-disc compilation with one artist.
Also, I'm not sure what the "group with" blank is for (these are in Get Info). I'm trying to put all the proper notes in my Info settings and organize my library so that it's easy to use.
Does iTunes 7 do some aspect of this better?
If I "connect" to the internet to see gracetunes on this, will that wipe out all the detail I've added to track listings? Will it put any artwork with it? At present no artwork appears and I'm not sure what the artwork tab is for in Get Info. These are all for cd's i've previously bought and am archiving for myself.
Also, is there a quick way to get it to uncheck everything when it starts checking off songs automatically in my iTunes library?
I'm also interested in what "consolidate library" means.

  • Change data regarding song information in iTunes not working,

Hey everyone, I was writing to see if anyone else was seeing this problem. I want to change the data on some of the music in my iTunes library and every time I attempt to do so it will not affect the songs.
Example: I wanted to add genre data to Random Access Memories so I select all the songs in the album. Right click and choose "Get Info." Go to the bottom and type in the genre information and click ok to confirm the change, but then after the dialogue disappears it does not change the song genre information at all.
Thank you for all the help.

  • Need help restoring order of songs on albums

    Please help me!!!
For some reason, all the songs on my albums are playing/displaying in alphabetical order!!! I have no idea how this happened. Can you tell me how to fix this?
(For example, for some reason now when I open an artist's album, all the songs are displayed and played in either ascending or descending order alphabetically.)

If you have the track number in the ID tag you can just resort by that column in iTunes.
If you can't see the track number column right click teh header bar to add it

  • Changing directory structure & song file locations: iTunes query

I have an external hard-drive which I have loaded with thousands of songs over the years but have never really used it. Now, I want to organise my iTunes songs but my limited knowledge has brought me to a stop... Please help!
On the external HDD, songs are located all over the place - the directory structure is bad - and I want to simplify it under a new structure. Some songs are also on my iMac's HDD which I also want to centralise on the external HDD. What is the best way to do this?
Also, I don't have any play lists organised so I don't mind if I loose the library information and start again UNLESS the library information also includes SONG information (artist, title, etc.). Could it be a good idea, then, that I simply start again? Specifically:
    1. Can I just use Finder to move files around and change the directory structure on the external HDD?
    2. Can I start from scratch and copy all the music files onto a new external HDD with the new, simple directory structure I want and then re-point iTunes using the "iTunes media folder location" tab? Will I lose all the song file information?
    3. What do I do with the iTunes library? Is it best to "reset" the library somehow or should I do all of this moving using iTunes and therefore avoiding dealing with the library file?
    Thanks!!!

you could use finder, but it would be far better if you'd let iTunes handle the moving and organizing.
    2. Can I start from scratch and copy all the music files onto a new external HDD with the new, simple directory structure I want and then re-point iTunes using the "iTunes media folder location" tab? Will I lose all the song file information?
if you want to start from scratch, i would leave the files where they currently are. again, let iTunes handle it (see below).
    3. What do I do with the iTunes library? Is it best to "reset" the library somehow or should I do all of this moving using iTunes and therefore avoiding dealing with the library file?
i would start over. launch iTunes with the option key pressed. click on +create library+. in iTunes, go preferences > advanced and point iTunes to the desired location (i.e. your external drive). in the same tab, disable +copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library+ temporarily.
now start adding content (file > add to library). when done, go back to preferences > advanced and re-enable +copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library+. next, go file > library > organize library and select both options like so
hit ok. iTunes will now move files as necessary and organize them. when finished, your iTunes music folder on the external drive will look like this
none of your music files will be renamed. artwork you added manually will be retained, however, artwork that came with purchases from the iTunes store may be lost. that can easily be added later on though.
post back if you need further advice.
    good luck !

  • How do I change the fixed song length in iTunes?

I have a song that's 6:50 in length, but iTunes reports it as 5:42. It plays the whole song OK, but freezes the progress bar at the 5:42 mark with "time remaining: 0:00" displayed on the screen for the final 1:08. Also, no matter how many times I listen to it, the song is never marked as "played."
It bugs me. How do I change it?

  • How can I customize the order of songs in an itunes playlist

I'd like to be able to control the order of the songs entirely, not by using Artist Name, Album Name, Most Played, or any other prefab filter. Is there a way to do this?

Hi ed2345! Thanks for the precise and clear directions! Regrettably, they didn't work for me. Sequence:
    1. I clicked at the top of Column 1 (play order).
    2. Triangle appeared.
    3. I click and drag on a song.
    4. A ghost-like image of the text in that row follows my cursor where I try to put the song. I try to put it in the body of the list, then I try to put it at the end of the list. Both times, when I release the button on the mouse . . .
    5. . . .  the image of the text in that row returns to its initial place.
I'm trying to imagine what could interfere with this operation, but am drawing a blank. More UX fun!

  • How can I change order of songs in a playlist from alphabetical. I'm using v. 10.7. In a previous version I could drag the songs into any order, but this doesn't work anymore.

The playlists in version 10.7 always put the songs in alphabetical order rather than the order in which I add them. With my older version I could re-order them by dragging them. With this one they just pop back into alphabetical.

It turns out that by clicking a little arrow to the left of "name" on the header, the titles can be unalphabetized.
