Changing outgoing mail SMTP

I set up my Yahoo e-mail account and tried turning off the primary outgoing smtp server (Yahoo's smtp) and turning on Gmail's outgoing smtp, but when I went back to the account settings screen, Yahoo still shows up as being on and primary. Has anyone else experienced this?

You say you have the pse 5 disk?
I guess you do't have a dvd drive on your new windows 8 computer?
Do you have access to another computer with a dvd drive?
Anyway if you can find another computer with a dvd drive you could copy the pse 5 install disc to removable device like a camera card or flash drive.
You can also buy cheap usb dvd drives.

  • Outgoing Mail (SMTP) server

Trying to test/setup send email at EMDBControl to my email [email protected], wondering what i should put in
    outgoing Mail (SMTP) server box?
after setting up notification when i press test button, getting erro, [email protected] : Failed to connect to gateway:smtp.gmail.com sending failed

As far as I'm aware, GMail isn't running a public SMTP server. Assuming you're running this on your home machine, does your ISP have a SMTP server you could use?

  • Outgoing mail (SMTP) won't work

Setting up mail in new Imac and having problems with outgoing mail. Using SBC Global.net, (AT&T) have previously not had problems on prior system. Lost all previous settings, etc. on other so could not just transfer. Incoming mail seems to work find, but when trying to send keep getting msg. that the smtp server rejected the password. Have went to keychain and verified password, checked settings mail preferences, nothing seems to work, any ideas appreciated!

I think I may have just figured out a part of this puzzle. I have more than just my att account set up in Mail. Even though all of my accounts are setup to use the ATT SMTP server only (with the appropriate ATT login info) I am getting the same rejection notices as everyone else.
I noticed that in the rejection notice though, that it was saying I was sending mail from my other main account, not my sbcglobal (ATT) account. I thought that was strange since I set up all my accounts to use the SBC (ATT) login info for ATT's SMTP Server. So obviously it is a problem in Mail. Mail is somehow confused and sending some wrong piece of info to the SMTP server. When I changed the sender from my other account to my SBCGLOBAL account, the mail went right out with no other problems.
So this isn't a solution for those of you who are struggling with only an ATT account, but I think it points to a possible problem within Mail. The answer might be to delete the accounts in Mail and set them back up again. It's looking like Apple might need to make a tweak to Mail to fix this if indeed this is the correct cause. Hope this helps someone.

  • Mail can't change outgoing mail server

Trying to change the outgoing mail server for email accounts (POP and IMAP) - the field in the Preferences -> Accounts panel is disabled. Disabled. Why? My ISP moved to new servers and I can't access email until I update the account preferences. What the ????

    Hello Andrew Macrae,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I understand that you are trying to change your Mail account's outgoing mail server.  To do this, please follow the steps below where you are able to edit your outgoing server information.
Choose Mail > Preferences, then click Accounts.
    Select an account.
Click Account Information, then review the server being used for outgoing messages.
If None is selected, click the Outgoing Mail Server pop-up menu, then choose a different server.
Make sure the selected server is one specified by your account provider and that the server name is spelled correctly. Click the Outgoing Mail Server pop-up menu, choose Edit SMTP Server List, then review or enter information as directed by your provider.
If you contact your provider about the server, use the form in this Apple Support article to record Mail settings you might need for configuring the server.
Apple Support article: Mail settings you might need from your emal provider
If the server is obsolete, click the Outgoing Mail Server pop-up menu, choose Edit SMTP Server List, select the server, then click Remove . Don’t remove a server that’s in use by an account unless you’re ready to add a different server for the account.
Test your changes by sending yourself a message.

  • Need to change outgoing mail address which is from an old account

We recently switched to a new internet service provider, but the old address is by default still being sent as the outgoing (from:) address in the Mail application. Is there a way to remove that address? The problem is not with the service provider because I have been able to check the current valid inbox address through the service provider's homepage online. The problem must lie with a setting in the computer that has retained the old address as a default.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you're sending from the new account, that address is the outgoing mail address, by default. Did you try deleting the server of the old account? It could be sending mail out through that server instead of the one provided by the new ISP, which would change the outgoing mail address.
Go to Preferences > Accounts and select the new account; look near the bottom of the window where it says "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" and check to be sure that is set to the server provided by your new mail provider. If it's not, you need to select the correct one from the pop-down list.

  • TS3276 my outgoing mail smtp account is still offline after down loding yosemite

my outgoing mail is still offline after down loding yosemite

    Hello,
In Mail's Window menu item, choose Connection Doctor, does that report failed for smtp?
Modt likely the port or authentication method if nuser & Password are correct... sometimes the user ID is  JohnDoe, other times it needs to be [email protected]

  • IMail keeps changing outgoing mail server to one that is offline

Since installing Lion, my outgoing mail server keeps changing to [email protected], which always shows up as offline.  I keep changing it to stmp.me.com:deannanel and check "use only this server" to get my mail sent.
Next time I try to send mail, the outgoing server has changed back and mail cannot be sent.
    What is going on?

IMAP is enabled at GoogleMail (Login with WebBrowser) and you have read the installation manual? Normaly it works fine, creating the Google Account with Internet accounts from system preferences.
Like the incoming server, all outgoing server must have different usernames (your email addresses) and passwords. Check the correct assignment for each email account.

  • 2 step verification settings for outgoing MAIL SMTP for GMail

and i am in the outgoing SMTP > ADVANCED section of mail where i have an iCloud, GMail and domain based email SMTP addresses.
does anyone know if i set up a SMTP server for Mac Mail as having an authentication set to "none" or set to "password" for GMAIL and whether this password should be one of these online generated 2 step verification passwords?
i seem to have this account on sparrow with no problems at all but i am noticing that GMail mail is not showing up on either of my mac mail installations on either of my machines

    Hi Hotwheels
had similar issues. But incoming worked fine immediately, only outgoing was an issue.
(Though on iPad + iPhone both in- and out-going mails worked fine.)
I generated a password via Google only ONCE for may Mail app. And I entered it only ONCE in the settings. No other changes done.
So on the Mail application, I saw e-mails coming in. My outgoing e-mail stayed in my "outbox".
I just switched to another outgoing server. In my case, when I opened the advanced settings, a popup screen showed up with a number (approx 10) outgoing servers, all named exactly the same: "Gmail" ;-)
The one that was selected had the message "off-line" behind it and so were a couple of others.
As soon as I picked one that was apparently on-line, the mails in my outbox were send within seconds ...
So problem solved without actually really changing settings or entering paswords.
    Hope this helps
