  • Have tried to copy ratings over to a new computer using the export playlist function and this fails... can anyone suggest why?

have tried to copy ratings over to a new computer using the export playlist function and this fails... can anyone suggest why?

Because ratings don't travel with the files or the playlist.
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data. If you don't have any Apple devices then see HT2519 - Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.

  • Since changing over to a new BT hub my iPad mini will not recognise an Epson XP printer although this worked fine with Sky. Printer and iPad set up for new hub and independently recognise hub

Since changing over to a new BT home hub, my iPad mini does not recognise an Epson XP 305 air printer although system worked well on previous Sky hub. Both printer and iPad set up and recognise hub independently. Has anyone come across this problem?

If this is the issue, and that makes a lot of sense since there have been numerous disconnections since December, how do I get it uncapped again?
Do you know why there have been multiple disconnections?

  • I just got a new computer and I'm trying to sync my Ipod to the new computer not all of my items are coming over to the new computer

I'm having trouble getting all of my apps and photos to sync to the new computer and only about half of my music will copy over.  What am I missing?

It will only move "purchased" songs - i.e. those bought through the iTunes store. Anything that you loaded into iTunes from another source (CD, bought elsewhere, etc.) has to be either reloaded from that source, or brought over via iTunes "Home Sharing".
In my own experience, Home Sharing works the best - although it can take literally days, depending on how large your music/ap/movie library is on the original computer.

  • I'm trying to move all my iTunes data over to a new computer!

Recently, I purchased a new Windows PC and a terabyte hard drive to back all my files up. The old computer is gone and everything is now on the terabyte hard drive, including my iTunes info.
When I searched "itunes" within the hard drive, it came up with over 300 files to choose from!
How do I know which file is the one that will download iTunes onto the computer? And will it keep all my data that was on my last iTunes?

  • Can I transfer my windows 7 over to my new computer?

Alright, I've set up my new MacBook Pro and I didn't transfer everything over because I wanted to start fresh and all and only manually transfer over stuff instead of everything. Now my problem is that I want to transfer over my Windows 7 that I use with bootcamp. I would just reinstall it, but it was an upgrade so I'd have to load my copy of Windows Vista first, which, since I have the most recent Mac OS, that's not possible. Any suggestions on how to transfer over my Windows 7? Can I just copy over the partition? Or will that not work?
    Thanks in advance!

Well you see Carolyn, I have the install disc for windows VISTA and the upgrade to 7, and while Microsoft will let me reinstall vista on my new computer, I cannot, so I am here trying to see if there is a work around that isn't overly complicated/back doorish.
If using Boot Camp, Windows needs to be installed on the new hardware, not transferred or copied. If your new hardware/operating system do not support Vista then you need to get a full Windows version that is supported and install that.
The simple work-around is to install your Vista in a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox rather than nstalling Windows using Boot Camp.

  • HT1386 I purchased a new computer but my phone still has my old computer in the sync with itunes how do I change it to my new computer?

Thanks for posting this, I have same problem and was just about to ask same question. Any help gratefully received. I have tried to look for the answer on these forums but although I have found the question again there doesnt seem to have been a reply.

    Thanks

  • I had my iPhone 4S stolen last week and I am going to sync it to my computer to get everything back on it. I have a new computer, i know how to copy music over to the new computer, but where are the contacts stored on the computer?

    Hi there,
Can anyone help me!? I know how to copy my music library to my new computer but struggling with copying the contacts etc. Where do I find the contacts folder on my old computer?
    Thanks
    K

I had my iPhone 4S stolen last week and I am going to sync it to my computer to get everything back on it.
If it is stolen , how are you going to sync it?
You mean you got a new iPhone and you want to sync it to your computer?
    Plug it in.
I know how to copy my music library to my new computer
    New computer??? Or new iPhone?
I know how to copy my music library to my new computer but struggling with copying the contacts etc. Where do I find the contacts folder on my old computer?
I suggest you simply copy your entire User folder from old computer to new computer. This way all your data (Music, photos, contacts, emails, calendars, documents, etc.)  goes across.

  • Will I lose my saved data in apps, games, and pictures by transferring over to a new computer?

I got a new Ipad. I'm going to sync it with all my songs and apps from my computer. I'm getting a new computer soon. When I transfer the apps and songs to that computer and update my Ipad on the new computer, will I lose my pictures and saved app data because of the new computer?

You won't lose the data if you transfer purchases and restore the iPad from a backup. Read this thread where this very same issue was discussed. Read my post (Demo) and read King Penguin's post as well. As long as you follow these instructions you should be able to move all of your apps, music, saved data, photos and all iTunes content to your new computer.
Remember to turn off auto syncing in iTunes, Transfer Purchases and backup the iPad before you sync any content at all. It is all explained here.

  • Changing over to a different computer

Ok so heres the deal. My laptop that housed all of my itunes music files came across some trouble and we sent it in to the local computer store to be fixed. They told me they had to wipe clean my computer for whatever reason and promised to back up my word documents, picture files, and music files. However, it seems as though they did NOT back up the files as they were told to do (we sent it back AGAIN to see if maybe the guy that did it wasn't actually finished. It's slightly a more complicated story than that, but there is the reader's digest version). So I now have my ipod classic sitting here with currently 808 songs on it and no computer to backup the files to.
What I need to know is if I connect it to the main family computer, will the ipod be restored to it's original settings, or will my music be transfered to the new computer?

If you connect your iPod to a blank library it will get erased.

  • How to changing programs to a new computer?

I am getting a new computer.  How do I get my CC and photoshop loaded on to it (my old one is corrupted and inadequate for processing photos)?  I also have lightroom and elements...

Joesaintmars you will use the same process which was utilized to install the software on the original computer.  For information on how to install the applications please see Install and update apps - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html.
To install Lightroom and Elements you will want to insert your installation media and complete the installation process.  If your new computer does not include an optical drive then you can copy the installation files to a USB drive on a computer which does still have an optical drive.  You can then install from the USB drive.
