Changing Owner Name On CSS

Is there a way to change an owner name, short of creating a new one and re creating all the rules defined under the old name in the new one?

You will need to create a new owner and move all of the rules.

just purchased used ipad. how do i change the owner name on it?

Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Contents And Settings should put the iPad back to factory settings, and you should then be able to associate your account id with it (Settings > Store) and you can give it a new name when connected to iTunes on your computer (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3965)

  • Change owners name

I have a used iMac 24 - and the previous owners name keeps on coming up. Can I change this? Thanks

try this: adapt ... How-To: Changing home folder name/account name in Leopard
When users create an account on their systems, the home folder is named with the "short" username; changing it, or the login name is not straightforward. In previous versions of Mac OS X, the easiest way to change the short name was usually to create a new account and transfer files to it. For Leopard users, however, the procedure is relatively simple:
    1. Enable the root user and log in as root. This can be done by opening "Directory Utility", clicking the lock and authenticating, and then choosing "Enable Root User" from the "Edit" menu. After supplying a password for this account, users can log out and log back in as "root".
    2. Locate the home folder to be changed, and rename it accordingly, ensuring the name is lowercase, letters only, and all one word.
    3. Go to the "Accounts" system preferences and create a new user, giving that user a "short" name that's the same as the new home folder name. The system will ask if the present home folder is to be used, and users should click "ok". Then ensure the new user can administer the computer (if the user is to be an administrator).
    4. Log out of the system and log back in as the new user, and if everything behaves normally, users can then delete the old user in the "System Preferences".
    5. Reverse the steps to enable the "root" user in order to deactivate it. The root user account should only be enabled temporarily for running certain administrative tasks such as this.

  • Downsides of changing owner name, Long and short?

I have a bunch of Macs and I am thinking of changing their names both the "official" long name and the nickname (short) name. With Leopard it is now possible to change not only the short name but also the home directory and even user and group ids (501, etc)
I know that TM will most likely create a new backup since it is based on the computer name.
Other than that, what can I expect to happen?
Basically, when I got my new MBP I did the Setup Assistant thing, so two computers had the same name.
Later when I networked them, one was changed to Same Name (2) which is fine. And nothing happened.
But these two boxes still have the same short name.
Again, if I change one to a different short name, what happens? Boom! or simply BSD takes care of the various ownerships and such and it becomes a transparent change?

If you change the computer's name in the Sharing pane of System Preferences, no ownership issues will occur, as this isn't part of the account database. Changing the short or long names themselves won't affect ownership, which is based on the numeric UID instead of the name.

    Thanks, Niel.
That UID you refer to, is that that very long number UUID? Or is that something else again?
Actually I think I can leave the short name the same and only change the sharing name, which is what is seen on the network.
Lastly, I hope, what if I were to change the User Name in the User Preferences? I know that the default sharing name is based on this by adding an " 's " and the word Computer.
On the other hand, perhaps the main User Name is not important for what I want to do which is primarily to have unique names on the network rather than the ugly "X Y's Computer (2)" which is what happened the first time I connected them
With TM, I trust that anything I do that is not a good thing can be remedied by using the Wayback Machine.

  • HT1212 How do I change owner name and profile to iPad I just traded up for a new iPad Air?

I just bought a new iPad Air and wish to give my old iPad 2 to my brother. How do I delete my owner profile and appropriate data, and reset the old iPad to his owner name & profile?

If it's registered to your account then you can log into your account and remove it : https://supportprofile.apple.com/ - your brother can then register it to his account.
For the content that's on the iPad (you've copied off everything  that you want ?) then you can log out of your account by by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store, remove your iCloud account from it (Settings > iCloud > Sign Out) and remove all of your content and put it back to factory defaults via Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content And Settings. Your brother should then be able to set it up with his account and put his own content on it.

Do you mean a trial account from .Mac? (DotMac)
"Get an AIM Screen name and set it to Display what you want as you set it up.
The Screen name can be whatever yu want but you can also set it to display something else as well."
I had thought about this, but it seems other people have already chosen the screen name "pinksharkmark" and virtually every variation of it I can think of. So that isn't an option for me. As for getting it to display something else as well, do you mean that if I were to get an AIM screen name like "CromulentCat" I could somehow log in to iChat under the AIM account "CromulentCat" yet get iChat to represent me to my Buddies as "PinkSharkMark"? Because I have to admit I don't see how that can be done. It appears as if iChat displays to anyone chatting with you precisely the account name you logged in under and nothing else. So if you logged in using a .Mac account, then you are displayed as "[email protected]" while if you logged in under an AIM account, you are displayed as "CromulentCat". But that's it that's all... there is no way to change CromulentCat to PinkSharkMark.
Thanks very much for taking the time to reply, though.

  • How do I change the artist/owner name for my podcast?

How do I change the artist/owner name for my podcast?
For eg, a podcast has 'The Ricky Gervais Podcast' and underneath 'Ricky Gervais'. I can't see where to change the latter. I can't change that through our podcast host Libsyn.
    Is it done through iTunes?
    Jack

You can't change anything in iTunes: all infomation is carried in the feed, in this case in the 'itunes:author' tag. there will certainly be somewhere to enter it but if you can't find it you will need to contacts Libsyn; or quite possible Rob Walch, who works for them and posts here, will see this question.

  • Inspiron N5050 owners name - how to change

It's time for my almost daily stupid question. I have a Dell Inspiron N5050, I'm the original owner (bought new at Best Buy in 2012). I had the hard drive replaced under extended warranty and now under Users (when I go into the files on the hard drive) it lists "owner" instead of my name. How can I change this? I know that this may be something that the powers to be on this forum may not want out there (it could help change identification of stolen computers), so if this is the case I give permission for whomever has the answer to email me directly. Thank you in advance.
BTW, I did a Google search and I couldn't find an answer to this other than some forums don't want to list the answer for the reason I gave above. If this forum doesn't allow this type of information to be given out, I understand and I'll live with being "owner" on this laptop.
