Changing page number sizes

I need to change the font size of the page numbers in my 300+ page document in the CS4 version of Indesign. The page numbers were created automatically, but without the use of a master text frame (it was started in the CS3 version, which I understand doesn't have that feature). Is there a way to automatically change the font size of all the page numbers at once? This would be preferable to going through and editing them manually.

Even in the original master (titled A)  I can't select the number marker. I can only select the 'A' that sits in place where the number would be on a regular page, and changing that doesn't affect the other numbers in the document even if I try to 'apply master to pages'.
Sadie, here's the way it works. If you start with one master page Called A-Master, make a text frame and place an automatic page number placeholder in it, it will look like the letter A on the master page, and will be replaced by the page number on the document page. You can't select or change the number on the document page unless you detach the text frame from the master page on the document page by clicking on it while holding shift and command. Once detached from the master, the text frame will act the same as if you had created it on the document page, so things like moving or changing the placeholder on the master page will no longer update on that document page.
If you make another master page called B-Master and base it on A-Master, the existing page number marker on the B-Master will also read as A since it is a copy of what was on the A-Master. If you made a second marker on the B-Master, it would have a B instead of an A. If you were to detach the copy of the text frame on the B-Master from the A-Master, it will change from an A to a B, and you will be able to edit it, but just like the link from the master page to the detached document page, the link from the A-Master to the B-Master will be broken, so updating the A-Master will no longer update on the B-Master.
So, to do what you want, you can either change the placeholder on the A-Master and it will change there, on any masters that were based on A, and on all document pages that were based on A or the masters based on A. If you don't want to do that, detach the text frame on the B-Master and it will update on all of the document pages based on B-Master, but all those based on A-Master will remain the same.
Does that help, or did I give you too much info?

But there is also another setting called No URL Access this prevents loading the page using a url Instead it should be processed via branch
This is what it says in the documentation:
No URL Access - The page may not be accessed using a URL,
however the page may be the target of a Branch to Page branch type,

  • How can I change page number to 10A, 10B?

I am trying to change the page numbers within a section.  I can change the thumbnails and the footer to the correct corresponding number but it is still being recognized numerically.  For instance, page 10A is 11 and 10B is 12, etc.  I am trying to link my index to each page number but they are off because of this.  I have over 1600 pages and over 5000 links within my index so manually linking them is not an option.  I'm using a plug-in for the links.  How do I get Acrobat to recognize my page numbers and not the numerical ones?

    Page 1260 is recognized as 1268 because I have 1259A thru 1259H.

  • How to change page number

    Hi,
I need to change the page number. For example in page 4, I have "create user page". But I want to change its page number from 4 to 10.
    If there any way.
    Please give some idea.
    Thanks,
    Chandru

Caution:  When you copy a page from, say, page 4 to page 10, many but not all, page references are changed.  For example, page item P4_MY_ITEM will become P10_MY_ITEM on page 10.  However, I don't know if references to P4_MY_ITEM from other pages (page 5, page 6) get changed on those pages.  Further, some references in other places (dynamic actions, ??? I wish I could recall an example) will not be changed.  You'll need to hunt through all the page code to find them.
Now, it's also possible to export the application SQL file, edit the code, changing page 00004 to 00010 and reimport the application.  BUT one must be very careful that the editor does add any extra linefeeds or returns.  And be careful that object ID 1230000423 does mistakenly get changed to ID 1230001023.  And look for references that get split between literals ( xxxx 00' || '004 xxxxxxx should become xxxx 00' || '010 xxxxxxx).  When done, import to a new application number and check it out before replacing you prior version.  I've done it once or twice for small applications.  NOT RECOMMENDED FOR THOSE ERROR PRONE OR FAINT OF HEART.

  • HELP! Trying to print on an envelope (logo/return address), but when change page/paper size, prints blank page

Before now, I have really only used Acrobat to convert and send uneditable documents (just to give you an idea that I am not used to trying to edit docs or print them out in paper sizes other than 8.5 x 11.  However, I have a document (created by a graphic designer) that was designed to be viewed as a sample, not really to be printed and now want to print it directly on an envelope.  I have created a custom paper size in the Print Setup menu and have also cropped the PDF page size to be similar (although not exact) to the envelope size.  When I try to print it, my printer prints out a blank page.
    Any thoughts?

You need to select the paper size in the printer setup that corresponds to the letter size that you are using.  If you just crop to the approximately correct size you may find that the orientation of the page is wrong and various scaling options in the print dialog box can further confuse the issue.

  • Set my own page number

My book has many front covers. It takes first seven pages as a front covers (including table of content). The problem is 8th page is my first page. How can I change page number from eight to one ? Thanks for every answers.

Is it a 'normal' page, or a section starter? You can only change the page numbering on whole chapters or individual sections therein, not in the middle of a section.
And I know it sounds stupid, but are the page numbers in the master pages for the layout you are using or are they just text on the page?
If it is a 'starter page', what happens if you navigate to the page that you want to start as 8, go to the inspector, and under the layout tab>page numbers, click 'Start at:' and put the number 8 in the box? Do the page numbers not change on the pages?

  • How do you change the page number position on the page and size?

I am having difficulty changing the size/color/position of the page number in the book?  Does anyone know how to do this?
    thanx.

Yes, you can change the position. Do it in Master Layouts. Select the page number - a red box appears around it - select: left, center, or right justification. That will move it within the box. To move the box on the page, just drag the box to where you want it. - Fabe

  • Introduce left/top margin: Change Page Size ignored

I have a vector drawing of a technical schematic in PDF.  The drawing is an extract of a much larger schematic, so it is very small: 2.2" by 1.648".  However, when I print it out, it is resized to fill up a Letter size paper (8.5" by 11") and the size is then perfect for viewing.  Also, the PDF has no white space around the edges, so the same PDF is perfect for importing into documentation packages.
However, for hard copy printing, depending on the exact aspect ratio of the drawing, I will sometimes want to introduce white space along one edge for hole-punching purposes.  I am opening the PDF and printing it from Acrobat 8 Professional.  I cannot use Document->Cropping because I am trying to introduce a margin rather reduce an existing margin.  I tried using the Change Page Size controls in the cropping dialog panel.  Originally, it was set to Fixed Sizes and Page Sizes was set to None.  I selected Custom instead of Fixed Sizes, then I entered in the Width and Height in inches, with the Height being about 0.5" more than the original 1.648" (it's landscape, so the holes will be at the top).  However, the illustrative diagram does not change, and neither do the dimensions shown on it.  I click OK and the PDF as viewed did not change -- no white space.  When I go back into the Change Paper Size dialog, all the size data that I entered is gone and the control have reverted back to Fixed Size with a Page Size of None.  I explored the dropdown list for Page Sizes, and none of them are appropriate for such a small diagram.
What I'm trying to achieve is a pretty simple effect, and I thought it would be straightforward.  It has to be *very* simple as I expect to do this regularly.  Is there actually a way?  Ideally, it doesn't involve calculating all sorts of bounding boxes and offsets.  Who knows what the assumed reference points for those are.  In fact, the most direct way would be to enter a negative Margin Controls in the Crop Margins region of the dialog.  That is not possible, of course.

Actually, I found a way.  The reason why the page size was being ignored is because the numbers were too small.  If I enter a big enough number, it sticks.  It would be nice to get a message to that effect though.......sigh.
I can then adjust the cropping margins to get the gutter.
    Thanks.

  • JavaScript To Page Number Certain Size Documents

    Hi guys,
I'm fairly new to JavaScript and can't figure out how to write this code.  Essentially, I want to write a code that adds page numbers to the bottom left of a document only if the page size is NOT 9x11 inches. Is this possible to do?
I was thinking it would be some sort of loop to add the page numbers with and if statement to only number the page if the size does not equal 9x11 inches.
Also, I would need to insert the page number 1/4 inch from the bottom and 1/4 inch from the left.
    Thanks,
    MJ

Uhm... because I never noticed that option before! hehe. Jeez.
Gilad, thx much. That's exactly what I was looking to accomplish.
(An aside: trying to find a specific Adobe solution or function isn't very easy. I always search the forums, the documentation, and Google before posting any question here. Seems like there are so many features in every product that change so frequently that finding even a simple answer is a challenge...)

  • How to change the logo size on all the pages?

I have some 125 pages and i need to change the logo size of every page .Is there any method to change with one click that reflects on all the other pages ? Rather than i do it manually open every page and change the logo size? The logo is in the div. I want to use it as html rather than using as css div background image. Any help will be highly appreciated am using DWCS6 on win xp pro.

If the code is the same on every page, you could use the Find & Replace function within DW...
    1. Make a backup of your site files, just in case
    2. Make the necessary changes to one page to get what you want (make sure you know what the original code for it was/is)
    3. Hit Ctrl + F to open the Find/Replace Dialogue
    4. For "Find In" choose Entire Current Local Site
    5. In "Search" choose Source Code
    6. For "Find" put the line(s) of code that contain your background image on all pages (the original code mentioned in #2 above)
    7. For "Replace" put in the newly changed line(s) of code from step 2.
    8. Hit Replace All
DW will go through all of the pages, replacing whatever code you put in Find with whatever code you put in Replace.

  • Changing Paper size does not change page break?

I am using Oracle Report R6i.
I have created a matrix report showing months horizontally and items vertically. By default, the report displays a vertical line (Page Break Line) at 8 inches (as shown in Ruler).
I change the paper size in Page Setup Menu but still the page break line displaying at 8 inches due to which only 03 months are displaying per page at Landscape mode. My page size is : 210x230 cm.
How can I extend that page break line so that atleast 6 months to be displayed per page.
    Regards,
    Luqman

Changing the size used by the printer with the page setup dialog does not affect how Reports formats the output. You need to change Reports page size for this.
In 6i, the page size for Reports is controlled by properties against the Section objects (header, main, trailer) in the navigator.
In 2.5 you would set the vertical and horizontal page size in the Reports property palette for all sections. With the introduction of individual sections in 6i, each section can have it's own page size.
In your example you probably want to change the page size against the "main section" to 13" x 8.26" to get the report to format in Landscape. Also remember to set the ORIENTATION parameter or property to "Landscape" so that the printer is set to Landscape as well.

  • How can I change the number of pages in a spread?

I imported a document that our PR department used to create in Quark into InDesign 5.5. They have it set up in four-page spreads. However, the document has always been printed with a coil binding with a large graphic on each left-hand page and text on the right page. I would like to convert to using two-page spreads. However, none of the places the InDesign help leads me give any indication of changing the number of pages per spread.
My problem may be related to having imported from Quark, but if there's an easy way to change this, I'd appreciate hearing about it. Thanks!
    -Brian

In the pages panel select the spreads then right-click and check Allow Selected Spreads to Shuffle and also Allow Documrnt pages to shuffle. If asked if you want to maintain the current page arrangement say no.
