Changing Password and Keychain

Two related questions here.
1. I am giving a Dual-USB iBook to a good friend. I will delete some software, M/S Office for example, which I cannot legally leave on the HD. I would like to just reset the Account Name, Short Name and Password, remove personal correspondence and let him have the machine.
Is it possible to reset the Account Name and Password? How?
Will that make an unholy mess of the Disk Permissions?
2. What should I do about KeyChain? I have 84 Keychain items under LOGIN, 1 under SYSTEM and 88 under X509 Anchors.
Darn, this is confusing.
Many thanks,
Bob

Thanks trlblzr-
I was going to set up a new user account in my new DualCore G5 iMac anyway, to have it available for troubleshooting, so I went ahead and did so as a way of partially trying your suggestion.
So...went ahead and created a new account, checking the box for: Allow user to administer this computer.
With that new account still visible/highlighted in the Accounts window, I see there is a button for Reset Password.
When I am doing this for real with the G3, should I at this point indeed reset the password, then immediately hilight my old user account and hit the "minus" button just above the lock at the bottom of that window???
Many thanks,
Bob

  • How to change password and keychain?

I want to change one user's password (with the GUI):
    <pre> System Preferences...
    Accounts
    choose the right one
    Reset Password...</pre>
And I see a warning window telling me:
<pre>Resetting the account password does not reset
    the user's keychain password.
To reset the keychain password, use Keychain Access, located
    in the Utilities folder.</pre>
This let me discover 2 problems:
    - How may I change the user's password and the user's
    keychain password... together?
I want to keep them to the same string and the same
    managment policy (frequency of change).
    - I've tried with one account the method suggested (use
Keychain Access). Unfortunately I don't see how I may
change the keychain password, because every time I try
to change it, it does first ask me to type it:
    <pre>Current Password:</pre>.
How should one change a keychain password without the
previous one (when the original password can't be used)?
    MacOS X version : 10.4.7
    Keychain Access : 3.3

Try going to the users home folder --> library --> preferences and delete the "com.apple.keychainaccess.plist" preference file.
Also under users home folder --> library -->Keychains delete the "login.keychain" file

Settings>Mail, contacts, calendars>Your email account name>Delete Account. A window will popu after you select your email account in the settings and there is a large red Delete Button at the bottom of the window.
Settings>Mail, contacts, calendars>Add account. Tap on Add account and start entering your email account details again. If your email account doesn't fit one the per installed accounts in there, tap on Other - and add your account in there.
I would restart the iPad after you delete the email account, just to be starting "fresh" again.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button

  • Problems with logging in, passwords and keychains

    Hi everyone.
I've had my iMac since November 2011 and have never really had any problems.  But in the last couple of days I've been having some serious issues with passwrods and keychains.  I'm not very techy, so I'll just go through step by step...
Normally when I switch on my computer it comes up to the User accounts screen.  I click on my account, type my password in and it logs me in.  For some reason now (it's literally just changed over night) when I switch on my computer, it diverts from typing in a password and logs in straight away.  Weird, but no big issue.
But now my Mail keeps asking me to type in my keychain password for my updates.  I've only had 1 password the entire time I've used my iMac and it doesn't accept it at all now.  Starting to get annoying now.
And finally, and the most worrying for me, is I generally put my iMac to sleep over night rather than switch it off completely.  But when I try to log back in now, it won't accept my password at all, locking me out of the system.  Sometimes it goes to a black screen as if it's about to log my back, but it doesn't.  So to get by this I have to unplug my iMac from the socket and switch it back on again just so I can get back in.  This worries me as I do a lot of digital art work and I don't want any files being corrupted or damaged.
I've tried runnning the disk reparirs through Utilities, but I'm not sure how to tackle this.
Has this happened to anyone else?  And do you know a solution?
    Thanks,
    Dave

OK, I've managed to top up now. No idea why it didn't work the first time. I've also tried to port my number again and it said that it was successful, but it said that last time too. Another question: apparently I've been given a "pack", but I don't think that is good for me because I won't actually be using the number, so I don't want to be paying every week. The website says "If you don't want a pack any more, you can simply remove it." But I can't see any option for doing this. Where should I be looking? Thanks

  • Mail password and keychain

Trying to get a new imac set up properly.
In Mail, my inbox has an exclamation point next to it. When I click to get new mail, every time a message shows that i need to enter the password for my account. I enter it, then click the box to remember this password in the keychain. But it is blank the next time i try to access my mail.
In keychain, I  see  a password entry for this same mail account. When i open it, it tells me it is an internet password. the password itself is blank. and when i click  on "show password" it tells me "access to this item is restricted". I ran the "repair keychain utility, but it doesn't change anything.
Anyway, i don't know if or how these two things are related. But I can't get my mail until I can enter the correct password and have Mail able to access this password.

Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Window Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.

  • How do I change password and email address?

I cannot change my password and email address because I am based in the UK and not in the US. When I try to make a change and save it, it says I have made a mistake on the fields marked red and asks me to complete the parts in red including: the state I live in and because I am not in a state it doesn't allow me to change my details. It also has a problem with my country's telephone code. Does anyone know how to resolve this?

  • Using Jackrabbit User Manager programmatically for changing passwords and getting user data.

I am trying to do a change password request using the Jackrabbit User Manager with the REST URL /system/userManager/user/<username>.changePassword.json.  The problem I am having is that this request requires an oldPwd form param in the request.  The issue is that when I am trying to do this request it is in response to the user selecting "Forgot Password" so our logic has created a random password which we then email to the user so they can use that the next time they want to login.  We need to change that user's password in CRX so they can log in using it next time.  Since they haven't logged in there is no session, NOT the problem.  THE PROBLEMS, I don't know 1. how to use the userManager to get that user's old password, since /system/userManager/user/<username>.json doesn't appear to return the password and 2. if I could get the old password it most certainly will be encoded, some how, so I will need some decoding algorithm to pass it through in order to get the actual password to set as the oldPwd form param to my change password request.  Please let me know if you require any further explanation.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you, in advance, for your assistance.

Does your response mean that until version 2.1.2 of Jackrabbit User Manager is released I cannot change the password without knowing the old password?
No. It means that this feature is not available in version 2.1.0 of the Sling Jackrabbit User Manager bundle. It was added after that release. You have a number of options:
    Build the bundle from source.
Use one of the SNAPSHOT bundles available from the Apache Snapshots repository.
Use the release which is being voted upon now (https://repository.apache.org/content/repositories/orgapachesling-175/org/apache/sling/org .apache.sling.jcr.jackrabbit.usermanager/2.2.0/). (Note - we decided to use 2.2.0 as the version number rather than 2.1.2 as originally planned due to the scope of this release).
Write a different servlet which performs the same actions.
Meaning that being able to use either the credentials of the "Admin" user or using the credentials of a member of the "UserAdmin" group is not supported in the current released version 2.1.0?
Correct. It was added after the 2.1.0 release.
If I currently need the old password is there any Sling REST - Jackrabbit API call I can use in order to get the old password since using /system/userManager/user/<username>.json doesn't appear to return the password?
    -Mike
The plain text password is not stored. And this should be considered a good thing.
If you have questions about the development process we follow in Sling (or at Apache as a whole), by all means ask on the Sling users mailing list. It is reasonably well-established and we love to talk about it.

  • Trying to export from FCP 10.0.9 to YouTube, I get error message: no linked youtube account. It worked until yesterday, then stopped working. I tried changing passwords and accounts, but no help.

This is the story. Up until two days ago, when I completed a video project in Final Cut  Pro 10.0.9, I went to file->share->YouTube and a window opened up that showed the name of my YouTube account - (e.g., account.name) which is the same as the name of my gmail account. I then clicked 'next' and was asked for the password for that account. Upon supplying that and clicking next/publish, the uploading began.
Then suddenly, this procedure no longer worked. When I supplied the password, I got a message saying:
'NoLinkedYouTubeAccount'. Following online advice, I changed my account name from account.name to [email protected] and supplied the password. Still no good. I then changed the password in that account and tried both ways again. Still no good. I then opened up a new gmail account with a new password and tried that both ways. Still no good. I've tried following other online advice but nothing works. When I go to youTube, I see both accounts listed so they are there but the link doesn't get made. I've tried uploading several different videos, but it makes no difference. The videos I've uploaded previously to YouTube are there and functioning OK.
        Help would be much appreciated!

When I asked about codecs I was thinking of conflicts that FCP might have with one that would have been installed from a third party vendor…
It would seem to be something at the system level since all the user-specific fixes appear to have had no effect. And you've already tried a comprehensive list of the suggestions that I would have thought of…and probably more.
You didn't mention available disk space but I assume you checked that as well and you have at least 15% free on your start-up and media drives.
Has any version of FCPX performed for you as expected in the past?
When you uninstalled the app, by any chance did you use FCS Remover? If you didn't, give it a try.

  • Changing passwords and system copies

    Hello,
since we are changing passwords of the users control, superdba and database schemata user to individual passwords we get problems with system copies.
When we do a system copy and try to set the password of the superdba we get the message wrong sysdba.
We can connect to a copied database by two different passwords to database instance (dbmcli uses the origin of the system, dbmgui the password of the source system of system copy).
Is the passord of superdba stored at two points, filesystem and in the database?
At FAQ I found the hint to load systab after installation, upgrade and system copy.
Can I load systab at any time without risk?
    Best Regards
    Andreas

AFAIK the password of the SYSDBA can't be changed (easily), it's copied with the database.
You can load the system tables on the new system anytime using
    dbmcli -U c load_systab -u superdba,<oldpassword> -ud domain

  • Firefox sync error, changed password and on other devices the new password keeps giving me an error.

Okay so I have several Linux devices in sync and one of them is synced also with a Microsoft 8 and the latest updates of Firefox. All of them are updated to the lastest. I had to change my password becaue for some odd reason the pass I wrote down was not being registered in my computer. Now because of that I had to change it for all of the other devices and none of them are detecting the new firefox password change. It just seems like a round circle where I change pass, and I have to continue to do that but each device wants to do the same thing.
What could be done is there some bug with respect to this!? Thanks.

Please let me confirm what you are saying: when you change the password on one device, all of the other devices connected to the account are not disconnected and continue syncing?
[Bug 987719 - If user changes FXA password as Syncing client, don't kick them out of Sync]- this is outdated I think*
Do the other devices ever prompt you for a new password? And if you check about:sync-logs are there any errors after the time you changed the password on one of the devices?
Edit* ignore this post, though these are the steps we would take if there is a bug for future reference.
