Changing password to "blank"

Okay, no flames about a blank passworf please. I have been using no password since the 80's and am quite happy with it.
My question is a little weird and I really don't know if anyone knows the answer to this.
But I want to create a password to run Cocktail or YASU which both need a "real" password it seems.
No problem for me doing that.
My question is whether I csn then change it back to blank.
Please only reply if you know the answer and it may be that this is just as easy as changing the password but I don't want to have to reinstall Lion just to get back to no password.
This is on a new Air.
TIA
Lewis

Thanks, Bob!  You are correct.  And, we learned this as we spoke with APPLE TECH SUPPORT by phone on Christmas day (800-APL-CARE).  One of their reps spent the time to help us troubleshoot this, but the boiled down conclusion is your answer, and to repeat for the benefit of others, here is what worked:
1. With our Belkin router set to "out-of-the-box" WEP 64 bit security, we could not get wireless access of any kind.  Only with the Security Mode set to DISABLED, could we gain access.
2. Changing the router's security mode setting to "WPA/WPA-2...." and entering a new min. 8 char passphrase, and then entering that same passphrase into the IPOD Touch, and restarting the router, did the trick!
Based on this, and some info found in another posting, I can only conclude that the IPODs and IPHONES do not support WEP security mode in many generic routers used by thousands of consumers.  Hopefully, those same consumers can figure out how to change their wireless router setttings to WPA/WPA-2 security mode and ALSO get all their other wireless devices (PCs, laptops, WII boxes, ROKU boxes) all reconfigured to WPA mode, too.
I THINK THE BOTTOM LINE HERE IS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE THAT APPLE NEEDS TO ADDRESS WITH WEP COMPATIBILITY and it may also be the case that MOST CONSUMERS ARE USING WEP 64 BIT security on their home wireless routers?
In any case, it's working now, so anyone who is having problems should try changing to WPA mode and post back here if it worked for them!

  • Changing a Once Blank Password

    I set my password to blank and now when I try to change it, it asks me to put in a password for my old password in the users section. What do I do?
    PS. I don't recommend a blank password because it can screw up your computer when you first turn it on and it prompts for a login password! My computer has frozen so many times because I was lazy.

    I appreciate the sarcasm, but I don't think you were paying attention. I want to change my password from blank to something else, as my own blank password has caused my computer to freeze. I have determined this because other passwords didn't make my computer freeze at start up. So how do I change from a blank password to a regular one if the computer won't allow me to put a blank in the "Old Master Password" space?

    Hi,
    On the landing page at the bottom it should say "change password".
    That brings you to a forbidden page?
    On my server I do not have the /auth/ folder in my default site, but my changepassword page does work.
    Can you check if going to https://127.0.0.1/changepassword does work? It will give an SSL error.
    Then it might be DNS related conflicting with another router/server in your network
    Or... charge $ 5 per user to change his or her password personally

  • Why do we get First operand...error message when trying to change password

    Hi
    I'm new at posting here, so sorry if I'm doing this wrong. I did search first to see if there was info on this already, but I didn't find anything. (If there is already something out there, please point me to it.)
    We are using PeopleSoft Financials 8.8 SP1.
    We have basic workflow enabled in expenses which generates an email to an approver with a link into PS Expenses (right to their worklist area) when they have an expense report to review. When the user clicks the link they are directed to the PS sign on page. Normally they can sign on without any problems. However, if their password has expried they will be redirected to a page which says "Your password has expired. Click here to change your password." When they click the link they recieve a blank page with an error message that starts out as "First operand of. is NULL, ".
    I cannot replicate it in our test environments.
    I have confirmed that we have the PSWDEXPR permission list in our environment.
    I have also confirmed that our template for Change Expired Password is correct (PeopleTools > Portal, Structure & Content > Folder, "Tools - Hidden" > Change Expired Password > Template is PRTL_TEMPLATE_PASSWORD_EXP)
    I have also tried changing our brower cache to 0. (PeopleTools >Personalization >Personalization Options > Option Category Level = PeopleTools, Format tab, User Option of METAXP. I changed METAXP to 0 instead of 900 which was set by default).
    The odd thing is that if the user waits one day, they can use the link in the expense workflow email and change their password no problem.
    Also, when our users do experience this problem, if they log into PeopleSoft without using the link from the expense workflow email the change password function works fine.
    The link seems to be okay since it works fine at all times unless the user is prompted to change their password.
    Any suggestions?

  • Change password on the first use - does not work

    Change password on the first use - does not work.
    Created a user and specified 'Change password on the first use' - when user logs in - the 'Change password' window does not pop- up.
    Please advise.

    (APEX 4.0.2) I am running into this same issue - if you don't set the password expiration and locking to 'Yes', the user gets into the app without being asked to change the pw.
    When you do set expiration and locking - after the user logs on with their temporary password, it does take them to the change password page (4155:50) but the username is blank. Because the username didn't get to the page the old password will never match and you get the "Invalid password" message.
    What am I missing? Anyone successful doing this?
    Simple application, default authentication, no javascript, HTTP_SERVER, no ssl.

  • CMC Admin Change Password failure

    Hi,
    Login into CMC for Administrator BOXI3.1 is no longer possible. The Administrator was given 'User must change password at next logon'.
    The logon for an Administrator in a new session is ok. But password change in the subsequent screen fails with msg "You do not have permission to perform the requested action. Please contact the system administrator for details. Please re-enter your password."
    There is only one Administrator in BOXI3.1. Please suggest a solution if any. Is there any reset password script on the command prompt?

  • Login as Root password problem (the changed password isn't working!)

    I have enabled root user. I've changed my password for root user a couple of time and I am still not cable to login as root!! (username: root).
    Any thoughts and help? thanks a lot! Alon.

    Hello Stephen,
    Change of password is not done via configtool. Configtool secure store just stores the current password which is taken by SDM during the deployment.
    To change the password of the administrator user, you will need to enable SAP*. Please follow note Note 669848.
    1. open the configtool: C:\usr\sap\<InstenceID>\JC<xx>\j2ee\configtool --> configtool.bat
    ex: C:\usr\sap\J9E\JC09\j2ee\configtool ---> configtool
    2. Activate the "super admin" and enter password(this is your choice) in configtool properties:
    In Config tool: cluster-data>Global Server configuration>services--> com.sap.security.core.ume.service
    find below ume properties and change values as i mentioned
    ume.superadmin.activated=TRUE
    ume.superadmin.password= < enter password>
    3. Save the changes in configtool. click on Save button.
    4. Stop the j2ee engine.
    5. Start the j2ee engine.
    6. Now you login to UME with username "SAP*" and password "what you entered in configtool"
    7. After logging into UME Search for user "administrator" then unlock this user; or if you want to change password you can change it.
    8. Goto config tool follow step 1:
    9. Follow step2: and change ume property values as below:
    ume.superadmin.activated=FALSE
    ume.superadmin.password= (note: seta as default or blank)
    10. Save the change setting in configtool.
    11. Restart the j2ee engine ( Stop and Start).
    12. Now login to user as "Administrator"; you will succussfully loging into ume;
    Hope this helps.

  • Unable to view "Change password" page in other lang than English

    Hello,
    We have a stange problem:
    Installed APEX 3.0.1 over 10.2.0.3 Database, no errors.
    Applied Spanish and French translations (load_es and load_fr), no errors.
    Create a new Workspace.
    Create a single application (blank page).
    Create a new user (no developer, no admin) and checked "Require Change of password on first use"
    Default language in Browser English, try to login into single app with the new user and redirected to change password correctly.
    If the Default language in browser is Spanish or French, trying to log into single app next error appears:
    Error: El elemento "P50_USER_NAME" no aparece porque la pantalla HTML todavía no estaba abierta.
    Same error for elements "P50_ENTER_CURRENT_PASSWORD", "P50_PASSWORD" ,"P50_CONFIRM_PASSWORD" and "P50_SESSION".
    A simple error translation into English will be something like that:
    Error.The element (or item) "P50_USER_NAME" does not appear because the HTML screen were not open yet.
    If I try to enter with and admin user into /pls/apex app in Spanish...work fine!!!
    Any ideas....to desperate with this error. I tried to translate the application.
    Thanks in advanced.

    Hi Scott,
    Are you saying that when you run your application using an end-user account whose password must be changed, but that user is also an admin, that the change password page works fine?
    No, the application fails using end-user and admin user.
    When I said /pls/apex I was talking about the page that has "Application Builder", "SQL Workshop"...etc in this page it works fine.
    Any ideas???
    Regards.

  • Help needed - about change password page

    I had created a change password page and successfully connected to the access database via jdbc-odbc bridge. But, there are still some errors with the coding.
    The situation is like that: whether the NewPassword==ConfirmPassword or NewPassword!=CofirmPassword or both blank, there will always pop up a message dialog "The confirm password and new password must be same."(which I wrote in JOptionPane) and will not update the database that i had linked. I try to correct it but fail.
    Can somebody help me to correct the code below?
    Thank you!

  • Adding a change password link in a custom portlet

    Hi,
    Does anyone know how to add a change password link in a custom portlet? the custom nav UI we have does not show the my account link, we want to hide this complexity for external users, but we still want them to be able to change their password.
    I am expirimenting with using the following link, which seems to work fine, but was wondering if there was a more elegant way to do it using pt: tags?
    <pt:transformer pt:fixurl="off" xmlns:pt='http://www.plumtree.com/xmlschemas/ptui/'/>Change]http://servername/portal/server.pt?space=ChangePassword&&control=EditorStart&editorType=10">ChangePassword</a><pt:transformer pt:fixurl="on" xmlns:pt='http://www.plumtree.com/xmlschemas/ptui/'/>
    Thanks

    Hrm... this does get ugly... This has come up a few times w/ our users as well, so I am definitely interested in seeing what can be done.
    I don't see any sort of pre-built tag to let you access this directly. To your point, I only found the general account editing / access link - not one directly to password reset.
    Couple of questions / notes
    I tried your option and while it works, I'm concerned by the redirect back to the account page. That seems to violate your requirements on hiding the account options info. When the user hits finish / cancel they're taken to the main "My Account" page.Have you considered securing the other activity spaces so they're not visible from the "My Account" page? Then you could use the built-in tags. Not ideal, I know, but if you're going to be routed back to that screen anyway once you finish/cancel your password change...Have you considered just writing the password reset funtionality into your app? I did this a while back and it was actually pretty simple. Then you can have complete control over the behavior.How I wrote password reset...
    You know the userid in this case, so things are MUCH easier (no need to search to find the specific user)Assumption: users are stored in the plumtree database auth sourceUse the native API (com.plumtree.server). I don't know if you need to impersonate a full admin or not... my code doesGet a handle on the userReset the password with the "SetPassword" methodStore the changeSemi-functional code below - note how you'd never want to store your admin userid / password in here like this (or have it blank...)
    '//create an admin connection Dim ptAdminSession As IPTSession = New Session ptAdminSession.Connect("administrator", "", Nothing)
    Dim sNewPassword As String = ""
    '//start user impersonation Dim ptUserSessionTemp As IPTSession = ptAdminSession.ImpersonateUser(iUserID)
    '//open the user for editing Dim oUser As IPTUser = ptAdminSession.GetUsers().Open(iUserID, True)
    '//reset the password oUser.SetPassword(sNewPassword)
    '//mungle with server context Dim mySC As IPTServerContext = oUser.GetInterfaces("IPTServerContext") mySC.Store() mySC.UnlockObject()

    How did they wipe it?  By using Find My iPad and performing a wipe?  If so, that means they have your icloud ID and password, not a good thing.
    You could try connecting it to iTunes and performing a restore from iCloud.  But if they changed password, then you are out of the loop.  How did they get your password in order to change it?

  • How to Enforce User Change Password First Time User in Release 2?

    Hi...
    We discovered in Oracle Directory Manager(in unix is oidadmin), there actualy
    column to expiry date.(the default is 60).
    We follow this notes in metalink..
    Note:176470.1 Subject: How To Pre-Expire Portal Passwords
    Even though the note is for Portal30(release1), we just wangt to try it in our Release 2...
    Extract from the note
    "3. Set the value of the column LAST_PASSWD_CHANGE_TIME in the table WWSEC_PERSON$ in SSO schema to a value older than the password expiration period (default is 90 days) before the current time (e.g. sysdate - 100) for the appropriate user(s)
    4. For example, if you have created a user called TEST
    you would issue a command such as:
    update wwsec_person$
    set LAST_PASSWD_CHANGE_TIME =sysdate-70
    where USER_NAME='TEST';
    commit; "
    But, when we try to login again in the portal, we can still login...
    So, is the function still exist in Release 2?..
    If not, why Oracle Portal throw that function away?
    Why there still columns in WWSEC_PERSON$ that maybe linked to the password problem?
    can anybody help/explain?
    Thanks....

  • In Portal Anonymous mode - Change password option not coming- login fails

    Hi Experts,
         We are having some application which requires login in anonymous mode. When we click the application and give the user id password, it loggs in properly, there is no problem in that.
        But if the password is reset by administrator, then when entering the reset password given by admin it should ask to change the password. This is happening in normal scenario(/irj/portal), but when try the same in anonymous mode(irj/portal/anonymous) where the prompt is from the login required application, then it says login failed instead of giving the change password and confirm password screen.
    Appreciate your help in solving this issue. I hope many would have faced similar situation.
    Thanks
    Yusuf

    Hi Yusuf.
    Do you use a standard or custom login module for your application?
    More likely the used login module does not have a logic that handles such scenario as a change of user's password.
    In this case you need to implement a custom module with a required functionality.
