Changing Photo Aspect in Calendar

I'm trying to build a calendar in iPhoto '08 and I can't seem to change the picture aspect for certain layouts. In the seven picture layout the example shows the large picture with a landscape aspect but when I try to use this layout the large picture will only come up in portrait mode. I've tried placing different pictures in this spot to try and make it go to landscape but nothing seems to work. Anyone have any thoughts as to how I can make this picture show up as landscape?
Thanks

Some layouts switch based on the photo you place - some do not - there is nothing you can do about the ones that do not except use a different photo or a different layout (or crop the photo to work)

  • Changing photo aspect ratio with QT 7 Pro

Can I use QT 7 Pro to change the aspect ratio of my iPhoto pictures so they can be used in HD video?
    David

I guess it would be easyier for me to purchase Graphic Converter to convert all my JPEGs to 16:9 ratio to be used in Final Cut Express.
Again, this depends on what you are looking for in an application. I personally have never used Graphic Converter. If, for instance, it is able to batch process your photos, then it might be worth purchasing if that is what you are primarily interested in. However, any graphic application can change the aspect ratio of your photos—including Preview which, I assume, is already installed on your system. In fact, I recommend you try this work flow with a few sample photos to be sure it is the aspect ratio you really want to change. (I.e., most cameras use a 4:3 or 3:2 aspect ratio and changing the aspect ratio for the frame will introduce a distortion to the photograph subjects.) The more normal approach is to crop the photos to the desired aspect ratio in iPhoto and export the customized photos from iPhoto or import the customized photos directly into the target application.
In any case, simply open one or more photos in Preview, select a photo, open the "Tools>Adjust Size" option, deselect the "Scale proportionately" option, and enter the desired HD dimensions.
    Example... This
    becomes this...
In this case making the subjects appear fatter than the actually are which usually does not go over well with the women in the picture.

  • Different source for the photos for the calendar

    Hi
One of those year end panic moments at the office..
Trying to import photos into a new Calendar that I need to take to press tomorrow..
I can not figure out how to change the source of the iPhoto to import photos to the Calendar, example I brought in some new photos. they are in the Last Import, How do I get those in to the calendar?
    I so appreciate any help..

    Stan,
If I understand your question correctly, it is not possible to transfer photos from iPhoto to iCal.
There is a "Calendar" button on the bottom of the iPhoto window, but that only provides an avenue for you to purchase an Apple calendar which you have designed using your own photos.
If that is indeed what you are trying to accomplish...
    1. Click on "Last Import."
    2. Select (Click) on the photos you desire to import.
    3. Drag them to the Projects>CalendarName Folder which you are creating.

  • How do I change the order of calendars, including some subscribed, in Calendar App?

I have a few calendars synced to iCloud, as well as some subscribed calendars, that are also pushed to iCloud. How can I change the order of these calendars in the list in the Calendar application?
I am aware that changing the order of calendars within the Calendar app will not work; you have to change the order of the calendars on iCloud.com, and the new order will propagate to your devices. But, subscribed calendars do no appear on iCloud.com. I can change the order of my own calendars on iCloud.com, and that relative order does appear in my desktop application; But, how can I position subscribed calendars within that list, given that they aren't displayed on iCloud.com? They seem to appear randomly within the list, and there is no way to control where they appear.
Is there a way to control the order of the calendars within the Calendar application? (seems ridiculous that you can't)
What determines the order of subscribed calendars within the list?
I am using the Calendar application (formerly iCal) on Mac OS X 10.8.5, with iCloud.

Have you tried clicking and dragging them into the order you want in the Calendar application?

  • How can I change the aspect ratio of an image display

I am snapping a sequence of images and using imgPlot to diplay the images. However, due to my camera specifications [it's a Pulnix 9701 with Pixel Size 11.6μm (H) X 13.3μm (V)], the image I get displayed is elongated in the horizontal direction, i.e. if I snap an image of a square, I get a rectangle on my computer display.
How can I change the aspect ratio of the display on my computer? The only parameters I have seen so far just control what portion of the image is acquired or diplayed, but none actually changes the aspect ratio.
Thanks in advance for any help.

If you are using an analog camera, you can set the aspect ratio in MAX. This will correct for non-square pixels.
If you are using a digital camera, I don't think there is a way to fix it during acquisition. You could resample the image to correct the ratios, but that would be a slow, time consuming process.
One other possibility is that your computer monitor is in a mode which is not a standard 4x3 configuration. For example 640x480 and 800x600 are 4:3 ratios. 1200x1024 is not, which tends to distort your displayed images.

One way to to put the videos into an iDVD slideshow
and set iDVD's Slideshow preferences to always scale slides to TV Safe Area.
However, some users have reported that the audio quality using this method is lessened.  I've not noticed it but then I don't have a good ear when it comes to that sort of thing. If you add more than one video in the same slideshow do not select any transition.

  • How do I change the aspect ratio of source video in the event library?

I’ve imported video to iMovie 08 from a Canon Mini DV MD235 video camera. The video is recorded in widescreen format and plays back in widescreen when viewed from the iMovie event library (prior to doing any video editing). However, when I delete rejected frames from any particular video clip in the event library the video clip is automatically pillarboxed (i.e. switched from widescreen to 4:3 format). This squashes the video horizontally, stretches it vertically and leaves vertical black bars to the left and right of the video during playback. This automatic change in aspect ratio is occurring to the source video in the event library.
I’d be grateful for any help / advice on how I can convert the edited clips back to widescreen aspect ratio, so they display in the *event library* as they did when first imported into iMovie.

I don’t really want to clog up my hard drive with unwanted video and it’s easier to edit it from within iMovie.
Have you considered manually importing only portions of the clips you actually plan to use? Or, if you must import the entire clip, have you considered trimming externally in an application like MPEG Streamclip which will allow you to set frame level in/out points and then perform a "Save As..." operation that stores the select range of frames to an MOV file container retaining the proper flag?
Is there anything I can do from within iMovie to activate the 16:9 setting for these as yet unedited clips, so the same pillarboxing doesn’t happen?
Not sure what you mean by "unedited" here. If the files have been destructively split, the flag is gone and there is nothing you can do about it but re-compress. If you mean they are imported but as of yet whole and still contain their flags, then you have two options. The first is to edit non-destrctively within iMovie '08 and the second would be to do the trimming externally.
This second option is really fairly simple. Just close iMovie '08. Open MPEG Streamclip and load a clip you want to trim. Set your in and pout points, select the "Save As..." option, and store the files in the original Events folder with a new name. I would also recommend you perform these trims in their original time sequence so the "creation" date time groups (Finder attributes) are in time order also. When done with the loaded clip either delete it from the "Event" folder or move it to an archival location. When done with the last clip, close MPEG Streamclip, delete the Cache and Thumbnail folders from the Event folder, open iMovie '08 again, and go get a cup of coffee or tea while the files are re-thumbnailing. DO NOT DO THIS TO ANY EVENT WHICH CONTAINS FILES ALREADY USED IN ANY PROJECT. (I.e., this must be done before you start the actual project editing process.)
It seems odd to me that iMovie is doing this.
I suspect that as the application was originally written as an NLE, non-destructive, "by reference" application, the writers/updaters "overlooked" this facet when adding a "destructive" routine and did not provide for checks of this flag nor provide for copying it re-written segments.

If you use Threshold, you can add some gaussian blur to the image to make the edges smoother. You can also add a brightness/contrast adjustment layer between the blurred image and the threshold layer to fine tune the edges.
If you have Windows, you might want to look at Medhi's Fine Threshold filter (freeware) found here:
    http://www.mehdiplugins.com/english/finethreshold.htm
Edit: You could also use Find Edges on the image first; desaturate it; then use a threshold adjustment layer. Go back to the Find Edges layer and add gaussian blur to taste. To further fine tune, slip a brightness/contrast layer between the blurred image and the threshold to control line thickness/detail. (FWIW, I would make a copy of the Find Edges layer and blur the duplicate so if you change your mind you don't have to start the project from scratch.)

  • Cannot Create Albums: Clicking on Photo in New Album Changes Photo

    This is really strange.
When I import photos from a USB device the import seems to work O.K but if I create a new album when I click on any of the photos in the album, the photo is changed to a different photo from my library. This occurs even if I create an album of old photos. iPhoto seems to randomly change photos into other photos when I click on them.
    Any ideas?

    Sounds like minor database corruption.
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

  • How do I change the aspect ratio on Final Cut Pro X?

Whenever I upload new media (regardless of what ratio it was filmed in) it plays in letterbox format. I would like to change the aspect ratio to 16:9. Thanks.

Please open the clip in the QT player and post a screen shot of the movie inspector. Post a screen **** of what you're seeing in the viewer.
You keep saying upload, do you mean import?

  • Change photos from PDF format to Jpeg

how do I change photos from PDF format to Jpeg?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Open the existing pdf file with Preview.
In preview, select File, Save As, and click on the Format window to change PDF to JPEG.
    Then click the Save button.
Quality may suffer in the translation from one format to another.
In a quick test, changing Quality to 'Best' and Resolution to 300 dpi, the text in my sample page was crisp, but the original photo area was very pixelated.
The original image in the pdf file was also pixelated when viewed at 100%
A portion of the test image and text at shown at 100%. (Click on the image to view full size):

  • Change crop aspect in LR CC mobile

How to change crop aspect from a landscape crop to a portrait crop in the new LR CC mobile? Anyone know? LR 5.7 allowed me to tap the aspect ratio button, but that is no longer available with new menu system. Help appreciated.

I reported exactly this bug to Adobe Online Support a few days ago as the guys on the support line also couldn't figure it out. They told me that this would be given to the engineering team for a fix, but I have not heard any response. With this bug the tool is pretty much useless for selecting and cropping my first sweeps going through thousands of pictures. So I hope Adobe fixes this ASAP.
On top of that I would even add two additional weird things they changed.
    1. To crop an image in the previous version I had to merely tap the Crop tool and then select the aspect ratio, maybe tap the aspect ratio again to change the orientation of the crop from landscape to portrait. Now, in order to Crop an image I have to tap the Crop tool, then tap the Aspect Ratio pop-up, then select the ratio. Doing this for thousands of images will now take quite some extra time.
    2. The Flag/Rating details have been removed from the main editing screen and require me to flip (tap the little three buttons) in order to see them, which is extremely inconvenient.
I would strongly suggest to Adobe to please reverse those "improvements" ... the previous layout worked so much better. And FIX the crop orientation bug along with the extra Aspect Ratio pop-up and make it reappear right after tapping the Crop function in the main menu (who needs Rotate, or two Flip modes).

  • Batch change photo dates in Photos for 10.10.3?

If anyone has access to the 10.10.3 beta or has managed to use Photos at all, does it still allow you to batch change photo dates like iPhoto used to? Thanks!

Interesting. I would have thought that the moratorium lifted on press releases and reviews of Photos by a number of tech websites would have applied here as well. I had a little look at the Terms of Use on this website and didn't see any prohibitions on speaking about upcoming products, but perhaps I've missed something. Are those participating in the Developer Preview disallowed from speaking about Photos if major press outlets are not?
Apple does not and cannot control major press outlets.
However, they do control their own products and beta releases are subject to an NDA.
