Changing Picture Icons???

Okay, so I noticed something weird just now, I was just checking over my system preferences when I noticed that one of the icons now has a different picture. The universal settings icon was just a symbol that resembeled a person right? Now what is showing up is part of that original symbol with a "light-switch." Did this change because of the latest OSX update? If it did, for some reason I just barely noticed it.

You can fix this by deleting the com.apple.preferencepanse.cache file from the following location in your home folder:
Library/Caches/com.apple.preferencepanes.cache
That should return your icons to normal.

  • I've made a new icon for a folder, using icon composer. But when I add it to the folder in the icon spot, it changes instead to the generic picture icon with "icns" on it. How do I make sure the picture actually changes to what I want?

So I took a picture of a generic mac osx snow leopard folder (png), layered a picture of a movie reel onto it (png) using the application Gimp, then saved this complete picture as a png. I then took this picture and dragged it into Icon Composer & from there saved the new icon as an icns file. Next, I selected this new icns file, copied it, went into the "Get Info" part for the folder I want, clicked on the little icon in the top left corner, and selected Paste in the Edit menu. The icon did change, but it changed to the generic Preview icon with the letters "icns" across the bottom. Why isn't it changing to the actual picture I made? And how can I fix this or make sure I do get the result I want?
FYI: I have done this EXACT SAME process with other icons I've created, and in the past it has worked fine and changed the icon to the picture that I made. But today it's done this twice, with two different pictures/icons and in different folders.

Did you open the image in Preview? Then make sure you are actually selecting and copying the open image? You can check by going to Finder->Edit->Show Clipboard to see if the image is actually on the Clipboard. Now do GetInfo on the folder you want to have the image, select the wee little icon at the top (make sure it really is selected, the faint blue halo is hard to see) and then Paste. You MUST have permissions to write to the folder! Otherwise nothing will happen. Does the "Sharing and Permissions" section of the GetInfo window, down at the bottom, show your shortname as owner, with Read & Write permission?

  • Can I change the icon for a safari link to a picture?

I'm saving safari links, I'd like to use the picture of what the link is to as the icon as opposed to the default. Is this possible?

    Hi there
Well, this is a yes and no answer.
Yes, you could change an icon, But no, RoboHelp won't make it easy. What you will end up doing is massaging the JavaScript code for the WebHelp output. This particular change isn't really for the faint of heart. Oh, and you would likely have to change it each time you generate your WebHelp output.
I would encourage you (and others) to consider submitting a Wish Form to ask Adobe to put this on their radar for a future version.

  • Is there a way to change the icon associated with icloud account?

Is there a way to change the icon associated with my iCloud account? It's currently a rose and i do not like it.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Are you referring to your iCloud account picture or your user picture?
It looks like you are referring to your user picture. To change it, open System Preferences > Users & Groups, press the picture box and choose the user picture you want from the ones that came by default. If you want to select a different picture stored on your Mac, drag that photo onto the picture box.
If you want to change your iCloud account picture, open http://www.icloud.com and log in with your Apple ID. Then, press your name at the top right of the site and press the user picture. If you put the cursor on the picture box, you will see a button at the top of the box to change your picture

  • When i click on my launch pad icon on the dock, and it opens, there are no photo icons only words!! Any body know how to get picture icons back ???

When i click into my launchpad on my dock, and it opens, there are currently no picture icons only words. How do i get my picture icons back?? plase help

This procedure will reset the state of LaunchPad to its default. Any customization that you did will be removed.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Dock
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it are one or more files with long names ending in ".db". Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the folder open. Log out, log back in, and test. If there's no change, put the files you moved back where they were, overwriting the ones that may have been created in their place. Then log in and log out again. Otherwise, delete the files you moved.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Change .pdf icons to generic icon instead of preview image

How can I change the icon of a .pdf on the desktop to the more generic red and white Adobe logo instead of the little preview picture? With the old-style icon it's easy to determine what's a .pdf - with everything a little preview now (which is too small to tell anything, at least for me) I have to actually read the file name to see what type of file it is.
Not the end of the world but it would be nice to change.
    thanks

What app do you want your PDF files to open with when they are double-clicked?
If you click on the Desktop, type Command-J, and in the Desktop's view-options window uncheck the box for "Show icon preview," you will convert all the Desktop icons to whatever image the default "Open with" app has provided. If you have set Adobe Reader as the default app for PDF files, the icon will look like this:
If you have set Preview as the default app, the icon will look like this:
I don't know of an automatic way to have PDF files display an Adobe icon and still have them open in Preview when double-clicked.

  • Why can't I change the icon of my file folders?

I'm trying to follow these directions (pasted below) that I found in Finder Help, but can't do Step 3. There is no icon in the info window that I can select. Can you please help? I have some folders for which it would be extremely helpful to show an image from their contents rather than the generic blue folder.
    Thank you so much!
To use your own picture or a picture from the web:
Copy the picture you want to use to the Clipboard. One way to do this is to open the picture in Preview, choose Edit > Select All, and then choose Edit > Copy.
Select the file or folder whose icon you want to replace and choose File > Get Info.
At the top of the Info window, click the picture of the icon to select it, and then choose Edit > Paste.

Thank you SO much! Funny thing, I didn't even notice the tiny folder icon at the top of the info window until I saw it in the screen shot at the beginning of that article.
See, I have begun changing the icons of the folders of digital scrapbooking alphabets I have (screenshot below). Now it will be so much easier to scroll through my hundreds of alphas and choose one, because I can SEE them without going in and out of each folder.
    A million thank yous!!!!!

  • Changing the icon for saved Web links.

Im trying out different forum topics to see if anyone can help and I thought this would be a cool thing to do and might be doable with an applescript.
I save a lot of web address as files to go back to later and I find the default @ icon for firefox or the blank icon for safari pretty appalling. I was wondering if there was a way to change the icon so that when ever I save a new link file it would use the new icon. I was thinking about just an icon that has the Firefox, safari, chrome logo would be good or even better a little picture preview of the web page its self. Any help on this little idea I have is very appreciated
I really like the idea of a page preview for weblink files. Like this ( http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a238/Nuclearanthrax/Screenshot2010-09-02at1021 41PM.png )
I completely understand a straight up no answer to this. I have no idea how applescript works. I have used it very few times.

    Pierre,
I tried this AppleScript but it was not working. Is there something that I need to check.
I had a few web link files in a folder and the script RAN the INFO window popped up but nothing changed.
This would be a valuable tool for me an my students,
    Thanks in advance

The following script should do part of what you are asking for. However, since it uses [GUI Scripting|http://www.macosxautomation.com/applescript/uiscripting/index.html], you must first enable the Accessibility Frameworks by clicking the checkbox labeled "Enable access for assistive devices" in the Universal Access System Preference pane.
Just copy and paste the script into the AppleScript Editor window and click the Run button.

  • Can you change app icons?

Hi. I want to know if you can change the picture/icon of an app. Everyone at my school needs to have an iPad but we are not allowed to have games on there. I want to play games at home but it would be a ginourmous pain if i had to download  the apps apps I want to play and then delete them. The teacher at school are going throug our iPads and i was wondering I could change the icon picture to books or something and also if possible change the name.
    Can You please help me!!!

No, it's not possible to change an app's icon or its name, only the developer of the app can do that.

  • How to change desktop icons?

    Hi guys,
Just wondering if someone can help me out here? Am trying to change the desktop 'icons' in my 20" imac? (I want to change the icon of the HDD and some folders) Can someone help me out? Cheers

If you already have a picture that you want to use as an icon, open it in a picture viewing app (Preview, for instance), and copy it. Now click on the icon of the folder or disk that you want to change and press Command-I (or choose "Get Info" from the Finder's File menu). Click on the icon in the top left-hand corner: you can now paste the picture onto it.

  • Adobe Portfolio - Changing Folder Icon

    Using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9
Is there any way to use a customized graphic/jpg for the Folders icon?
When I have my portfolio grouped in folders, I want to be able to visually show something about that folder (insert JPG), not just a picture of a folder...

    Here's another discussion:
    http://bbs.applescript.net/viewtopic.php?id=10591
This discussion sets forth two approaches, and I have made both of them work in their own way. So my question is more or less answered -- more or less, because the approach that is most satisfactory is the one that you outline in that discussion, but it seems only able to set a custom icon to a new folder ("Target").
Please enlighten me if I'm missing something, but is there a way of making the "target" folder a pre-existing folder with another custom icon? What I really want to do is to change a folder icon, not create a new folder with a custom icon.
What's so frustrating is that I can open two folders with different custom icons and drag their invisible icon files back and forth (changing the icons), but I haven't found a way to do that with a script.
Thanks very much for your help.

  • Picture icons becoming distorted

I`ve noticed for a while some of my picture icons in the finder window are becoming unrecognizable. I thought it was just my older scanned images but my newer digital ones are also becoming distorted. What would cause this and how can I resore them? I`ve tried replacing them from iphoto, but that only works for a while then they become distorted again along with new ones. Am I over editing them and thus making them unstable? Any help would be most appreciated.

I`ve figured out how to solve my problem but have no idea as to why the problem exsisted in the first place. For anyone else out there having the same kind of frustration, what I did was open the image in preview and "save as", then without changing anything push the save button and a window came up asking to replace. So I just saved as and replaced. So simple. Everything seems fine now. Fingers crossed.

folders such as desktop, doc, downloads, pictures that i needed to change on favorites list now have the generical folder icon.
when i try to change the icon, the folder in the submenu appears correct but the folder docked in my favorites list on the left doesn't change.
is there a way to do this?
    thanks

Copy the icon you want to the clipboard.
Select the file/folder you want to change and do Get Info (cmd-I).
Click the file/folder icon on the Info window. It will highlight with a blue glow.
    Paste.

  • Videos Corrupted When I Tried To Change Their Icons?

Today I tried to change the icon of an avi. file from the standard video screenshot to a normal picture. I started by changed the icon of the file in 'get info' & then using liteicon, I restarted the finder to change the image. For some reason though, all the other videos in the folder were reset to the standard avi. file icon, and appeared to be corrupt.
Since this I've removed the new icon & re-restarted finder. At first all of the avi. files had the default icon & would crash quicktime when I tried to open them. However, a few of the files have returned to their original icon; some of which work in quicktime (but give me the 'corrupted file' message in DIVX player) & some of them will play but without sound.
I realize the corrupted files are pretty much gone, but I'm wondering if anyone can tell me why this might've happened & (if possible) how I might go about changing an avi. file's icon properly next time.
    Thanks

I was just able to open the file with an older version of numbers.  I imagine that the issue is related to updating the file to the latest version of numbers / mavericks - likely due to the multiple pages and file size.

  • Why do the picture icons above the filenames vanish after I have edited an image?

Recently when I have opened an image in Photoshop CS6 & done what I wanted to it, have saved & closed it, the file appears with filename visible but minus the essential picture icon above it. If I open a picture in PS, do nothing to it, & close without saving, everything is fine. I see my file with its icon above.
It seems that passing a photo through the Photoshop process deletes its icons. I have tried to reopen these & save them in different ways, with a new name or in a different format, but that doesn't change anything. I am left with folders of pictures with titles & blanks above where the icons should be. Since I work primarily with images this is impossible. Can I get these icons back? Problem with common library icons

Thank you for replying, Chris. I very much appreciate that you have written back professionally to me about these issues.
I wish I hadn't needed to upgrade from my old IMac with its perfectly operational old PS but was forced to by the driving forces towards new operating systems/iCloud. etc. as you will well understand! But Apple and Adobe have always been in perfect harmony before, haven't they? = they've developed alongside each other as soul mates. For me and many others it would be unthinkable to be without an Apple with its Adobe programs. It is the key to everything I do on my computer, as an artist & designer.
I am so sad now. It seems that the ball is now in Apple's court to resolve these issues. I am not sure I can get hold of anyone there (because the Apple Store people would say its a program issue) but I shall try. Because obviously various things are going wrong here. Have you any advice? I can meanwhile try to pitch to them questions as to why our beloved PS no longer finds a comfortable home in an Apple…? And if that remains the case then we may as well shift to PCs!
    Once again, thank you Chris.
