Changing playlist names

I have another question. I noticed that in my library there is a general list of the playlist. ie. 90's music, top rated, etc. And the songs that I have are going into all the playlist. When I look on top rated I see a song and I also see it on 90's music.
I would like to organize my music by naming my playlist different name and assign songs to each.
Is there anyway I can change the name of the different playlist on my library and have it the sameway on my ipod?

The playlists you mentioned are 'smart playlists' they update automatically as you add tracks to your library. Smart playlists update based on rules in their settings.
You cannot drag and drop files to smart playlists, make a regular playlist for that.
One way of changing the name of a playlist is by right clicking on the playlist name. A menu will pop up. Pick the rename option. To edit smart playlists is done from the same menu but another option.

How do I change the name of a Playlist in iTunes (if it's possible).

In the left-hand pane, find the name of the playlist and click it twice.  It will highlight, and then you can overtype a new name.

It should be a simple thing to allow the change of a playlist name in the iOS app. Please work out a solution!
    Thank you :)
The idea to allow renaming of playlists on mobile has already been suggested here.
If you would like to see it added as a feature, add your kudos and comments there ;)

  • I want to change my playlist name.

I'd like to be able to change my playlist name. Sometimes my first idea isn't as good as the one I think of three days later.

    Hello:
How about right clicking on the playlist you wish to change the name of, and use the Rename option from the context menu and hit enter when renaming is done? Does this work?

  • Change iPad name?

How do I change the name of my iPad?

    Hi Eric,
My ipad name under Devices on the left doesn't become active and I can not change it.  If I try right click the pop up window contains "eject", "new playlist" etc, nothing like "rename".  I tried all the names appearing on the screen and nothing.
    Thank you,

  • Changing track name

Is it possible to change a track's name when I bring it into a new playlist WITHOUT changing the name elsewhere? In other words, if I have a track named "dog" in my library, and I move it into a playlist, is it possible to change its name to "cat" in that playlist only, without simultaneously changing the name in the library?
Another way to ask this, if I'm being confusing:
I'm often in the situation of building multiple playlists, each of which might contain the same song - but I'd like to have a different name for the song in each playlist. So that the same song (same piece of music) would be in several different playlists, but would be called "Joe" in one playlist, "Sally" in another, "George" in another, etc.
    Possible?
    Bob P

A playlist is only a set of links or shortcuts to the original file in the library so any change made to the file is reflected everywhere it shows up. It can't be one thing in one place an another in a different place because essentially there is only one file.

Connect your iPod to the computer. Once it shows up in the source list of iTunes (the window on the left where you see "library", "playlists", "podcasts" etc), double click on it and this will highlight it and you can then type a name for it.

  • I tried to change the name of my device and now I cant sync anything and it says there is a problem with the disk and when I changed the name back it still said the same thing so I restored my ipod (not from itunes but on the ipod itsself)

And now its saying my ipod is corrupt. None of my stuff was erased from itunes it was only erased from my ipod so why am I not able to just sync everything back onto my ipod? why is it doing this now? I think this is ridiculous that just changing one name would do this much damage.

There is a backup plan after doing the Restore.  Read this.

  • I changed the name of my imac to reflect it's new location, but inadvertently, it unchecked the box to allow the administrative user account to administer the machine.  I am trying to reinstall with a time machine backup and am unable

I need a little help.  I changed the name of my imac to reflect it's new location, but inadvertently, when I saved the change, the system unchecked the "allow this account to administer the computer" so now I can't make any changes....  I tried to reinstall the OS, but it wants me to go online while installing and use my apple id, but this is not my iMAC, so I don't want to use my account.  Also, I am working in a building that will not allow me network access until I authenticate, which can't be done unless I open the browser first.  So I'm stuck at this point.  I can't even restore a time machine backup that I have because it gives the error message that the system encountered an error.  Any suggestions?
