Changing Podcast Names

I don't always like the names for all my podcasts because they are way too long and get cut off even showing full screen on my iPod. How can I change the name of the podcasts?

You're at the mercy of the podcast producer. Send them a message complimenting them for the great podcast, but you'd love to see the "tags" on each episode shortened to make them more readable on your MP3 player.

  • How do I change the name of my podcast in iTunes?

My podcast is listed by my name (John Bell) in iTunes instead of its title (Bell's in the Batfry) which confuses a lot of folks looking for it.
Is there a way somebody can explain to me... in "idiot english"... how I can get iTunes to change the name?
      Windows XP

I've looked at your code and the title of the code in your .xml file (and when its viewed in a web browser) has the title line down as your name not your podcast name.
An error in the entry I'm afraid, not iTunes. As Mitchell says you can open the .xml file and edit the text - however, every time you create a new episode you may find the programme you're using will overwrite the code.
As your name appears twice in your podcast (as the author and as the podcast name), only thing i could suggest is looking at the details youve entered to see if you had to put your name in twice in your programme - if you had to put it in twice try changing one of the fields, publish it and then open the xml file in a browser window - if the top line shows the amended name you know thats the one!
Hope that all makes sense - it does in my head!!!! :o)

  • Changing the name of my podcast

So I am making some changed to my podcast and need to change the name to reflect that. I am hoping that I will not have to lose all my subscribers. I have changed the name and all the info in the .xml file and it will still be linked to the same feedburner url....but iTunes search still has it under the old name. Is there a way to change it with iTunes??
    thanks

You will find that all these URLs work:
    http://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/id464589031
    http://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/experience/id464589031
    http://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/fred_bloggs/id464589031
in other words it doesn't matter what you put in the URL between the penultimate and last slashes; and if you get the URL from the Store page you get
    http://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/experience/id464589031
whhichever variant of the URL you use.

  • Is it possible to change the name of my podcast?

I want to change the name of my podcast. Is it possible? Please help.

This depends on the situation. If you were hand-writing the feed (which I assume you aren't) you could just change the 'title' tag. Some podcast creation programs or online service will let you change the podcast name, and doing that and re-publishing will get your name change onto the Store after a couple of days.
However, some programs or services create the feed with a file name which is drawn from the title. If you change the name you will change the feed URL and then iTunes won't know where to look for it and your podcast will cease to update.
So you need to take that into consideration before changing the title.

  • Any danger changing a podcast name?

Hi, I want to be sure that changing my podcast' name in the xml will not affect the old subscribers (Will they still recieve the new episodes automatically?)
Or is there any other problems that can be due to a podcast name change?
    Thanks, Jean.

Not as long as you don't change the name of the feed file (and hence the URL) - be careful because I suspect that one or two programs or services derive the feed filename from the title.

  • Changing podcast album name??

    Hi all,
I created a podcast about two months ago. However, I've recently decided I need to reformat the name, and the album name.
Old Album Name: Regeneration - The Epistle of 1st Peter Series
New Album Name: Regeneration - The First Epistle of Peter Series
I went through and changed all my .mp3 files to reflect the new change, and then also updated the.xml file for the feed.
While all 10 of the episodes are appearing in one feed within my iTunes application (for Windows) under the new name, when I go to my Music library within Windows 7 File Manager, there are now two different directories. One uses the original album name, while the other uses the newer name.
Next, I unsubscribed, and deleted the feed off my laptop computer, and then resubscribed. However, it's still not creating one physical directory.
What is the proper procedure to change a podcast album name, and get that information into the iTunes Music Store so that all episodes are in the newer named album directory?
I made the change approximately eight 10 hours ago, so I know iTunes has had the time to crawl through the .xml and update their feed.
    Thanks!
    Robert

You're misunderstanding what I said earlier though.
I went ahead and completely REMOVED the feed out of my local copy of iTunes. After unsubscribing, I deleted the now empty local folder within File Explorer. In essence, my copy of iTunes shouldn't know that I ever subscribed to the podcast feed.
I then subscribed again to the feed. Logically, it should create a brand new folder within Windows because the feed only references the new album name. HOWEVER, two albums are still being created locally on my computer, with the folders being populated with the pre-change album names/files.
    Hope that's more clear.
    Thanks for writing back.
    Robert

  • How do I change the name of a podcast once submitted to itunes??

how do I change the name of a podcast once submitted to itunes??
anyone know? I submitted my first podcast, then changed the name in feedburner. The new name is appearing once you are in the podcast window of my itunes, but not in the itunes store catalog. how do I fix?

Here's what iTunes Podcaster help says:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/podcaststechspecs.html
    Troubleshooting Your Feed
iTunes should update your listing at least once every 24 hours. If you made changes more than 24 hours ago that are not yet reflected in your iTunes listing, there is a good chance that your feed has broken. When iTunes encounters a broken feed, it ignores the feed and continues to display the old data.
Here is a set of recommended steps to fix your feed:
Ping your feed to make sure iTunes has attempted to update your feed recently.
Review the technical spec, particularly the example feed, to ensure that every detail of your podcast’s feed is supported by iTunes.
Use a feed validation service like www.feedvalidator.org to check for particular problems. This may be helpful in determining a specific problem with syntax.
If you used a software- or online-based feed creation service, check to ensure your settings there are correct and iTunes-compliant.
Subscribe to the feed in iTunes to see if it works. Open iTunes, go to the Advanced menu, choose "Subscribe to podcast..." and enter your feed’s URL.
Hope this helps - Podcaster's discussion board might have more answers:

  • Podcast Name Change Questions

    Hello,
I've had an all-Canadian Music Podcast out for a year now and it's done well for a small podcast. However, I've decided to make some changes in hopes of reaching more listeners and a name change is being considered. I have a few concerns before doing this, so hopefully you guys can help.
Over the past year the show has surprisingly received 74 ratings and a lot of really nice reviews in iTunes. It has also found it's place in the iTunes "What's Hot" section and has stayed there for 6 months or so now. My concern with a name change is loosing ratings/reviews and the feature in What's Hot. It takes a lot of hard work to get recognition in iTunes and I don't want to throw away a year of efforts that made these small victories happen.
So, will changing the name have any effect in iTunes?
I use Libsyn as my host server and from there, changing the name is a simple process. I just want to make sure things won't change drastically in iTunes.
Thank you in advance for your help with this question!
    Cheers!
    Mike

There shouldn't be any problems. There may be a bit of a delay before the change appears in the Store but it won'ot affect anything - the basic identifier of the podcast is its ID number.

  • Can I Change the Name of My Podcast?

Can I change the name of my podcast without losing subscribers, likes, and library of interviews?

You can change the name provided that the method you are using isn't one of those which includes the title in the URL, and so would change the URL. If you do that iTunes will lose contact with the feed. To get round that you would have to leave the old feed in place, adding the 'itunes:new-feed-url' tag to redirect to the new version as described here:

  • How to change the name of my podcast

I need to slighly alter the wording used for the title/name of my podcast and am not sure how to do this.
Currently the podcasts name is being pulled from my website's title, in the settings of Wordpress and it reads: Bright Ideas for Marketing Agencies.
I would like to update it to read: The Bright Ideas Podcast: Helping Marketing Agencies Become More Profitable
    How do I do this?
    Thanks!

Have a look at this guy's video. He explains in detail how to do that. Skip to the 15th minute to get to what you need. I've just submitted a podcast and Pat's tutorials are excellent!

  • How can i change the name of my ipod

bought my son a new ipod so by default i get his old one (which is better than mine) how can i change the name on it - thanks

Connect your iPod to the computer. Once it shows up in the source list of iTunes (the window on the left where you see "library", "playlists", "podcasts" etc), double click on it and this will highlight it and you can then type a name for it.

  • Podcast names

hey guys, basically my question is, how do I change the name of my podcast, and how to i change the author name?

The podcast is defined by the 'feed' file, which you submitted to iTunes. The title of the podcast is carried in the 'title' tag, and your name in the 'itunes:author' tag and can be amended there - however I would assume that you aren't writing your feed by hand, so you will need to make these changes wherever in the program or service you are using to make your feed you entered this data in the first place. You can then re-publish the feed and the iTunes Store will pick up the changes, usually after a couple of days.
However there is one thing you should be cautious about - some programs or services derive the feed filename fro the podcast title, and if this is the case changing the title will change the feed filename and iTunes will no longer be able to find it. It's possible to redirect iTunes to another feed, but you have to be able to add a tag to the feed it is currently using. (The method is detailed here.)
If you have any further questions do post back, but please always include your feed and iTunes Store URLs, without which it often difficult to make any cogent comment.

  • Changing Podcast Title & Info

I changed the title of my podcast and some of the info (like summary, description, etc.). I then pinged the URL as the tech specs described and the ping was successful.
But the new title and new info is not showing up in the music store. Is it just a matter of time or did I do something wrong?

The title is carried in the 'title' tag in the feed: amend this and the Store will pick up the change after a couple of days. If you are using a program or service to create your feed you should be able to change the title and re-publish.
However, if your program creates a URL based on the title of your podcast it will change the URL, which then won't be seen by iTunes. In order to get round this you are going to have to go through a process:
Download your present feed from your server.
Change the name in your program and re-publish. This will produce a new feed, with the changed title, on your server.
In the original feed you downloaded, add this in the top section, after the 'channel' tag:
<itunes:new-feed-url>FULL URL OF YOUR NEW FEED</itunes:new-feed-url>
Upload this modified feed to the server.
The iTunes Store will change to your new feed, probably fairly quickly, though it may take a couple of days before the title change shows.
If you are using an online service which doesn't give you access to the server, you are stuck. It's either put up with no title or start over as a new podcast and submit that afresh to the Store.
And please, when you have a query, post your feed and Store page URLs.
