Changing Printer Dialogue Box Standard Setting

Help! This is driving me crazy. I print thousands of documents every week from Filemaker. For some reason - probably something I have done ages ago - my 'Standard' preset in the printer dialogue box defaults to printing 2 copies. Yes I know it's easy to just change this manually to 1 copy but I have tried every way possible to change the 'Standard' preset and have failed. Does anyone know how to do this? I called Apple Support and they were useless.

It might help if you delete the following prefs files in your home directory's Preferences folder. They have the following form:
com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs.plist - the general prefs file if the setting is not related to presets, and you might want to delete this one last in case deleting the other two, if they both exist, works.
com.apple.print.custompresets.plist
com.apple.print.custompresets.forprinter.<printername>.plist
You could also try changing this value with the CUPS page: http://127.0.0.1:631/
Hope this helps.

Epson R300 and R1900 are both set up and work fine with all other apps including acrobat.
After a restart and attempting to print, instead of the print dialogue box an error message appears saying set up a printer as not properly set up. Further attempts are frustrated by print option in menu greyed out. I have deleted drivers and reinstalled without benefit. If this cannot be sorted I will have to cancel and go back to photoshop 5.

  • Quality and Media options don't appear in Print Dialogue Box

I recently upgraded my OS and now when I try to print on either my Lexmark Z65 or my Epson R300 (both USB connections), I don't see the "Quality & Media" option in the print dialogue box.
I need these settings to appear so I can choose Glossy Photo Paper. This is the only setting that will give me the saturated prints that I need for my projects.
    I have tried:
    - reinstalling the latest drivers for each printer
    - deleting and then re-adding the Printers
    - restarting
I've been reading that others are having similar problems when they upgraded to Tiger, but none of the posted solutions seem to work for me. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jen

Options such as Quality & Media are known as PDEs (Print Dialog Extensions) and they are added to the standard print dialog by the driver installer. For the new Intel Mac's, to get these extensions to appear (or appear without a line through them) you need to have a driver that is written in Universal Binary.
You mentioned that you have the latest drivers. Check back to the web site to see if they mention them being Universal Binary versions. If they are Universal, then the previous drivers that were PPC may be interferring with the UB version. Try opening the Printer Setup Utility, click on the title menu and select Reset Printing System. Then close the Printer Setup Utility and open Finder. Navigate to /Library/Printers/ and delete the contents of the Epson and Lexmark folders. Empty the Trash, restart the Mac and try adding the new drivers again.
If there aren't any Universal Binary versions available, then you can set most applications you are printing from to open using Rosetta. Before opening the application, find its location in the Finder view and go a Get Info on the icon. In the Info window, if there is a setting 'Open using Rosetta', then enable it and open the application. Now you should have the option.

  • Xerox 8560N (2.0.13): Print Dialogue Box: Slow/Sticking

Is anyone having any issues with the print dialogue box when printing to a Xerox 8560 since updated to the Xerox printer driver, 2.0.13?
Specifically: In any application, I open the print dialogue box and if I attempt to select any pull down option it hangs for about a minute or so and then lets me make the choice(s). If I simply open the print box and attempt to press "print" I get the same problem. The machine itself is printing fine.
Have attempted many of the usual fixes like re-downloaded the driver from Xerox, resetting printers, adding/removing printer (re-setting it up), permissions repair, &c.
It's not the end of the world, but it is annoying.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • "Color Matching" option in print dialogue box...

    Hello,
I've upgraded to 10.5 (printing from latest Adobe CS3 Photoshop and InDesign) to an Epson R2400 (with the latest 10.5 drivers from Epson). I let Photoshop/InDesign handle color management (rather than the printer).
Once I hit "print" from the application I'm sent to the OS X print dialogue box. From here I select my Epson settings as I always have (including turning off Epson Color Management) but now, within 10.5, there's a new OS X specific printing option listed as "Color Matching". When I select this I'm giving the options for "ColorSync" (from which I can then choose "automatic" or choose a specific printing profile — though, when I try to select one, I always get a warning saying I'll get undesirable results, and it only goes away when I select "automatic") or "Epson Color Management" (or something like that).
I do not have an option to turn these "off", I have to select one or the other.
Now, what exactly is going on here?
Which do I want to select?
I assume I would leave it to "ColorSync" since I know I don't want the printer to manage the color, but I'm just confused as to what these settings do since I'm supposed to be managing the color via Photoshop.
Can anyone shed some light onto this new option under 10.5?
    Thanks!
    Kristin.

Yes, very strange. If you see a few posts up I actually did get it to work the way I need it to. I called Epson and they had ne reset the printer settings through the system preferences. On my first try this did NOT work, however everything worked as it should in Preview (another image program) and since it did work there the Epson tech basically siad then it's not their problem - most likely adobe.
However just for the hell of it after I hung up, I tried resetting the printer settings again and sure enough it worked. I was able to change the color settings while using Photoshop to manage colors - namely I needed to print a B&W through the Advanced B&W setting. When they are grayed out I can't do this. But even while doing color I don't like that it's grayed out. I've been printing both color and B&W for the last 5-7 years with photosjop manageing colors. I know about double profiling and how to avoid it.
If this was by design from adobe, it deosn't make sense that I was able to access it a few weeks ago after resetting the printer settings. And if this was the case when did Adobe supposedly make the change?
I don't know what's different now, the only thing I can figure is that I had this issue sometime after I installed the lastest Epson print driver - hence the call to Epson... Maybe it's snow leopard weirdness, but I had snow leopard on my laptop and was always able to print sucessfully, but have not tried it since I got the new Mac Pro.
And the strange thing it works fine on other programs. I can have photoshop manage colors and they are not grayed out. Strange and frustrating. Time to set up the DR.
I guess I shoud uninstall PS and then try re-installing it.
    thanks...

  • How can I move or resize the print dialogue box to fit within my screen?

Right now the print dialogue box sits below the menu bar and extends below the screen.  I have tried to move it up or resize it, but it doesn't budge.  I can't see the buttons at the bottom.  I know one is "cancel" and one is "print"  but there's a third - is it "save"?
    I'm using Windows 7 on a Toshiba laptop with Creative 6  screen resolution is 1280 x 720
    Any help would be appreciated

This is obviously a bug with Photoshop Elements 12.
In my Photoshop Elements 10 the printer dialogue box scales to fit the screen every time.
In Photoshop Elements 12, even moving the task bar away (you can simply drag it up the right hand side of your screen with the mouse) you can't see the print button as its still off the bottom of the screen.
My work around is to hold shift+alt+cntl and click on my Ps icon - Click compatibility - Scroll  down to settings - click run in 640 x 480 screen resolution. It then does horrible things to your screen res, but hey presto the printer dialogue box is minimised and you can print your picture. As with your Toshiba, even with the printer dialogue box fully exposed there are no chevrons in the bottom right hand corner to minimise the printer dialogue window and the arrow buttons simply start trying to change the settings in the printer set up. The dialogue box is still nailed to the top of the screen with no title bar to right click on.
How do I escalate this to report it as a bug to Adobe?

  • Printing dialogue box

In my older version of photoshop when I went to print my Print Dialogue box gave me options which I can not find on CS6. With my older version under Print Settings the drop down menu for papers included; photo paper glossy and I also had options for advanced settings and advanced setting for B&W. I can not find any of these options in CS6. I do get optios for matt papers, fineart papers, etc.. but no options for glossy photo papers or any option for advanced setting.

  • Macbook no print dialogue box

Hi.  Just started new gig and installed the office printer driver (Brother MFC-9970CDW) supposedly compatible with my OS 10.4.11, which seemed to go fine.  But now when I try and print a document -- any document -- the print dialogue box simply doesn't appear. I receive no other notifications. Just nothing happens.  Period.  Can someone suggest what I might have done wrong?  I'm trying to connect to the printer via the in-house wireless network.  Thank you very much.
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:          MacBook
      Model Identifier:          MacBook2,1
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:          2 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          1
      Total Number Of Cores:          2
L2 Cache (per processor):          4 MB

In your original post, you said, "...It started in the middle of filling out pdf forms on my iMac in Adobe Acrobat. I completed 4 tried the 5th and had the print dialogue box appear as described."
Which version of Adobe Acrobat, i.e., v.4, 5, 6, or 7? And is it Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader.
Anyway, I suggest checking your hard disk using Install Disk 1 of the Panther set.
    (a) Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart your computer holding down the C key. Continue to hold down the C key until the Apple logo appears.
    (b) After the Installer window appears on the desktop, click on the menu "Installer" and select "Disk Utility".
    (c) When Disk Utility opens: on the left pane, select your hard disk and then on the right, click the First Aid tab followed by clicking the button "Repair Disk" (lower right).
If it reports any errors/repairs, re-run Repair Disk until it report no errors.
    (d) Click on Repair Disk Permissions. Then quit Disk Utility.
    (e) Restart computer.
    (f) Launch Disk Utility (the one on your hard disk) and Repair Disk Permissions again.
Post back to let us know what happens.

  • Creating Save As .pdf workflows to be used in the Print dialogue box

    Hi all,
I am new to Automator, and am trying to work out how to set up workflows to print/save documents, especially emails, as .pdf in a range of different folders.
For example, I am using Thunderbird for email and when I got to the Print dialogue box, I get the PDF drop-down menu at the bottom left. When I bring up this menu, one of the options is 'Save PDF to Web Receipts folder'.
However, I would like to add a few more folders to speed up the process of saving emails to different places. I have tried the Edit option, and tried in Automator but cannot set up a similar workflow to create more 'Save PDF to...' options.
Can anyone give me some tips on how to do this.
    Thanks,
    Daniel.

    Hi Dan!
    In Automator help we read:
    Print Workflow plug-in
These workflows perform actions on files that have been saved as PDFs. They can be chosen from the PDF pop-up in the Print dialog. The file is first saved as a PDF formatted file, then the path to the PDF is passed to the first action of the workflow.
So this means your workflow could consist of just one action: Move Finder Items. I set this up with the To: field set to my desktop, and then selected Save As Plug-in from the File menu, gave it a name, and selected Print Workflow from the drop-down box. That's it! When I went to go print something, the workflow showed up in the menu automatically. (:

  • Printing mulitple tabs without getting Page Setup & Print dialogue boxes

I am using Forms 6.0.5.2. I have a form with 7 tabs and I need to be able to have a Print All button that prints a screen image of each tab. I have tried programming a trigger that executes a GO_BLOCK('a'); print; GO_BLOCK('b'); print; etc etc. While this will work, it is not user friendly as it prompts the user with the "Print" dialogue box (to select which printer to print to) and then the "Print Capture beginning. Don't move or occlude window until done" diaglogue box every time the print command is executed. Is anyone aware of a way to have these dialogue boxes come up only the first time the print command is issued and to be suppressed afterwards?

It's relatively easy to setup a series of questions and capture the results via display dialog, for example:
set bleedVal to text returned of (display dialog "Enter the required bleed:" default answer "0" buttons {"OK"} default button 1)
    set bleed to bleedVal
You can even do fancy things like:
set orientationVal to button returned of (display dialog "Enter the required bleed:" buttons {"Landscape", "Portrait"} default button "Portrait")
    set orientation to orientationVal
    or:
set paperSize to (choose from list {"A3", "A4", "B3", "B4"} with prompt "choose a paper size" default items "A3") as text
    set paper size to paperSize
Note that you may want to perform some input validation on the value entered to make sure that users don't enter inappropriate values such as "0" for the enlargement/reduction ratio, or "none" for bleed values, etc.

  • Kill a print dialogue box

    Hello !
I have specific scenario here. My Application developer has created an online app wherein, there is link called "Print" , when clicked, opens a new tab with the to-be-printed matter BUT ALSO WITH A PRINT TAB. Now I dont what this PRINT DIALOGUE BOX but just the print tab.
The Developer isn't ready to modify his script. Is there a add-on, or a modification somewhere where in I can Kill this Print Dialogue box ?
Currently If I close the print dialogue box, it goes away, also the newly opened tab goes away.
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for reading this.
    Regards,
    Mahesh

Firefox 3.0 and earlier versions had a preference '''print.use_native_print_dialog ; true''' which could be toggled to '''''false''''', but with Firefox 3.5 it was removed. When that pref was set to false the "print" command went directly to the printer, without the appearance of the dialog box.
It is possible to show a "printer-ready" window, because I see them frequently at many websites, so your developer needs to study up on how to display a "printer-ready" page and not trigger the appearance of the "native print dialog" box. Unfortunately, Firefox users no longer have control over the appearance of that dialog from within Firefox.

  • How to choose the print dialogue box of mac in place of print dialogue box of microsoft office for mac ?

When I use my microsoft word for mac and that I want to print something, it's not the print dialogue box of my mac that open but the print dialogue box of microsoft.... How to use the defaut print dialogue box ?

Your take shows iOS 6, but I'm assuming you're talking about OS X since this is the Lion forum.
MS Word does show a somewhat different layout of the print dialogue, but all of the same options are there under the pulldown menu (where it starts at "Copies & Pages").
