Changing printer settings no longer works - requesting lpadmin password!

When pressing the _"Pause Printer"_ button, or changing printer settings, I get a dialog box come up saying:
*Type the name and password of a user in the "lpadmin" group to allow Photosmart C4500 series (HPF615EE).app to make changes.*
I have typed my username and password in several times, to no avail. I am the only administrator on this computer. Apparently I am not a member of this "lpadmin" group, and have never seen it before in my life!
What do I do?
(? Possibly since upgrading to 10.5.7 ?)

I am having the same problem. When I use the fix posted by John Blanchard, I "A Directory Service error occured"
My output of the "dscl" command is a little different

So what changes do I need to make to John's terminal commands to fix my problem.
Thanks.

Anybody know how to make Epson iPrint work on ios6? Epson told me to use AirPrint, which stinks because you cannot change printer settings.

Epson needs an update to their app to support ios6. I'm sure they will in time.
Try deleting it and re download it. If that doesn't work, it's what I said above. :(

  • Photoshop CS6 freezes with attempts to change printer settings

(This problem also occurs with InDesign CS6, so I will post to that forum as well. First one to give me a solution gets my undying love and devotion appreciation.)
My employer acquired a Canon 6010 printer with a Fiery print controller last year. I have no problems printing from my personal Windows laptop.
However, from my employer's iMac (OS X 10.6.8) I get the spinning beach ball of death at least 90% of the time that I open an existing document and attempt to change the printer settings. The only way out is via Force Quit. Inexplicably I can occasionally succeed in changing printer settings. I think the record was having to force quit the application 11 times. Not sure - I quit counting.
So far our only semi-consistent work around: create a new document and copy and paste the contents from the existing document. Not cool. But sometimes the app freezes with brand new documents, thus destroying my work around anyway.
    Additional Information:
I have installed all CS6 upgrades.
Our technical support contractor recreated the problem and could not find any solution other than the work around.
Canon says the problem is with the applications.
This happens whether I attempt to change the printer settings immediately or make changes to the document first.
It does not matter what other applications are running.
Rebooting the system after the app freezes does not make it work.
We cannot upgrade past 10.6.8 because of the age of the hardware. But CS6 is supposed to run on Snow Leopard.
I have tested this with other applications, including some older Adobe software. It does not happen with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, InDesign CS3, Photoshop CS3, Acrobat 8 Pro, Acrobat 9 Pro or Acrobat XI Pro.
This happens whether the documents were created and saved on the Mac or on a Windows computer.
Re-saving the documents and/or printer settings does not change the outcome. Once I restart the application Photoshop may remember the paper size, but doesn't remember duplex settings. (From another thread in this forum I suspect a corrupt printer preferences file.)
Per the instructions in the other thread I reset the printing preferences by launching the app while holding down shift-control-command. That enabled me to change the printer settings one time. Every subsequent attempt brought back the spinning beach ball.
No other employees report similar problems (including a few MacBook users). However, they do not use Photoshop or InDesign, nor do they typically change printer settings.
Sorry if some of that is irrelevant - just trying to give you as much info as possible and tell you what I've tried already. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Bonnie

Nanneri, my situation is similar in that creating the PDF and printing from that does take longer than just printing from InDesign and Photoshop.
I finally got a Canon tech rep on site who understood my problem. Though we had tried reinstalling the drivers (as had previous Canon reps), this guy got it right. Neither Photoshop nor InDesign has locked up since - at least not for the Canon 6010. (Photoshop has locked up twice when I've attempted to print to a Canon iPF8300s wideformat that isn't on the Fiery. Restarting PS has fixed that.)
Based on my experience, I would start with new drivers.
FYI: I am having problems printing to a new Canon C7065 that also uses Fiery. But the problems vary and I haven't isolated the factors. Sometimes I get a printed error report. Sometimes it just doesn't print. But no more software lockups.
In our case, I suspected our problems were related to having old hardware that can't be upgraded past OS X 10.6.8, which is the oldest OS compatible with both CS6 and the Fiery. But since you are on a newer OS, and a different printer, I'm beginning to wonder about the Fiery.
Hope you find a solution soon. Keep us posted!

  • Printer settings button wont work

Hello. I've just updated to Photoshop CS5 on my Mac (10.5.8) and now my printer settings button wont work for my HP photosmart B9180. Can anyone help?

What I need to find out is how I can get the printing options back I used to have when I used CS3.
Here's two images to show the options I used to have available when I clicked on the printer settings button. Pic one shows that I used to be able to pick the quality I want to print but as you can see I can know longer pick 'fast draft' or 'normal' as they are now greyed out. Pic 2 shows that I can now no longer alter the colour options if say I wanted it brighter which I used to be able to do. They are also now greyed out so I cannot move them.
All the printer options were available when I used photoshop CS3 & they are still available in Illustrator CS5 its just photoshop thats the issue. Any ideas?
    Hope all that made sense!

  • My HP printer is no longer working

My HP printer is no longer working with my Macbook after installing Mavericks.  It scans, but will not save or send any files.  My computer has also slowed down considerably....

Your printer might need an updated driver. Check the HP website and see if there is a driver for Mavericks.
You may have other HP applications installed that are incompatible with Mavericks. Try uninstalling them and see if your printer works. There may be updated versions of these apps on the HP website too.
If you just recently installed Mavericks, Spotlight may be indexing, and this can slow things down until it is done. If Spotlight is indexing you will hear a lot of hard drive activity.
If Spotlight is done indexing, and your Mac is still slow, then it is probably because you have bad/old/incompatible third party software that does not play well with the new OS. It would help to give us more information. Etresoft: EtreCheck is a free app developed by one of the contributors to this forum which will generate a system report on your computer. If you can paste the report here we can take a look and see what might be the problem.

  • Any printer UI for change printer settings?

Since Solaris 10's printing system is powered by PPD files. (at least for some printers). I suppose I can access all features PPD file provide: Change page size, input-tray, output-tray, color-mode, etc.
Is there a GUI that comes with Solaris that can help me change printer settings? (The printer manager is useless)
How do I tell what command line option a PPD file provides? (Yes, I can write my own script to parse the PPD file for OpenUI, CloseUI), but what's Sun's solution for it?

    /usr/sadm/admin/bin/printmgr &
Don't ask me why it's in a weird location.
It's the Best GUI In The World -
gives you the option of a console
window, so you can see what it's
    doing on the command-line in
    response to your button-clicks.
    Dunno about the PPDs.

  • Can't change print settings on HP C4280

Hi everyone, I can't change the print settings on my HP C4280 printer. I click the third drop down (Copies & Pages) menu after clicking print on a word document or webpage and I am able to see all the options (paper handling, scheduler, etc.- . I am also able to see advanced setting after clicking everything except paper type/quality, borderless printing, and printer driver information. When I click these 3 just mentioned, the advanced settings part that is supposed to load up is just blank- ) .
I have installed the driver and all other hp junk that I downloaded again from HP's website. Anyone have an idea how to solve the issue? I'm thinking the included leopard driver is being used and not the new HP one. I've tried selecting the new driver in system preferences but I don't know where the new driver is located.
Thanks in advance. I appreciate your help since the printer guzzles ink in the standard setting.

Seems like several people are having this problem. HP was actually very knowledgeable and helpful though. A simple manual uninstall and reinstall worked for me, but here are more comprehensive instructions from HP if you're still having trouble.
The issue you are describing would require a more intensive uninstall procedure. Double-click on Macintosh HD, Applications, Hewlett-Packard, HP Uninstaller. Proceed to the second screen of the uninstall, that asks you to select the device to remove. On this screen, hold the control, option, and command buttons (the three buttons on the bottom row of the keyboard, to the left of the spacebar). While holding the buttons, click the uninstall button. An additional screen will appear with a prompt to confirm.
Be advised, when you click yes all HP software items will be completely removed from the computer. This would include all items installed for other HP devices, as well as the driver package that is preloaded in the operating system. Any other HP devices that are currently installed will have to be reinstalled using compatible versions and the driver set would need to be reloaded from the Leopard DVD if you needed it for any older HP printers.
Click on yes, the uninstall may then take several minutes. Once the uninstaller has completed, empty the trash and restart the computer. When the computer has finished restarting, double-click on Macintosh HD, Applications, Utilities, Disk Utility. In the disk utility, highlight your Macintosh HD on the right, then click repair disk permissions on the right. The disk permissions repair may also take several minutes. After the repair is complete, close all windows and restart the computer again.
You would then be ready to reinstall the HP software. For your operating system version, you are recommended to only install the software version 9.7.1. Which is a comprehensive installation and includes the update item as well as support for 10.5.2. If you no longer have the file you previously download, it is not version 9.7.1, or you are unsure as to which version it is, then you may download the software from our site at the following link.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-55008-2 &lc=en&cc=us&product=3192753&os=219&dlc=en&lang=en
This should resolve the issue. If you need further assistance, please reply to this message and we will be happy to assist you further.

  • Xerox workcentre 7535 print driver no longer works with Mavericks 10.9.2

Unable to change any settings in Print dialog pane for Xerox WorkCentre 7535. Xerox says its an Apple software problem. They have issed three revised drivers since Apple released Mavericks OS-X 10.9.2. Not only does latest driver (4-11-14) not work, their universal driver for Mavericks no longer works. Anybody else trying to print on a Xerox device?

I think I solved this.  Our Canada office has a WorkCentre 7556, and it was having the same problem(s).
Here's what I found and did:
Log into the printer's web interface.  Go to the Properties tab.  On that page, expand General Setup.  Then click Configuration Report.
Find and click the link for Machine Hardware.  In that box, find a line item for Finisher Type.  Scribble down or remember your finisher type (ours was Xerox Professional Finisher).
On the Mac in question, go to System Preferences, Printers & Scanners.  Find your Xerox printer, click Options & Supplies, and then the Options button.  Now on our machine, from a default installation, the finisher was set to OCT (Offset Catch Tray) and was greyed out.  Changing this to the correct finisher mentioned above made all of our errors go away.
Cheers, good luck, and um, I guess mark as Answered if this works for you please?

  • Print Settings Don't Work

Update: This turned out to not be a Photoshop problem. I reverted to an earlier Restore Point in Windows and all is now well. Thanks!
When I click Print Settings under Printer Setup and choose my paper type, resolution, size, orientation, and color management settings, they do not take effect after I click Okay.  Despite what I set, if I go back through Print Settings, the default settings are still there (Plain page, Normal-360dpi, default color mangement). If I print, dreadful color results.
PS CC 64-bit Setup: In the main Photoshop Print Settings dialog box, I am using Photoshop Manages Colors, my specific printer profile, Normal Printing, Relative Colorimetric, and Black Point Compensation. In the Printer Setup section, my color printer is selected (Epson 2200). PC: Win 7 (64-bit), i7 3.40 GHz, RAM 16 GB. PS and Windows are on the SSD, with data on the HD.
The same problem occurred with CS6 before I went to CC.
Needless to say, I can't print. I'll appreciate your help--haven't seen anything like this and can't find anything about it on the Web.

Timmy, since Microsoft no longer supports WMP 9 for Mac, you should just use Flip4Mac or VLC or other third party Windows Media player.
I don't know how migrating from a PPC iMac system to an Intel-based iMac works, but you probably have a lot of non-Universal files on board your Intel-based iMac and that could be a problem.

  • Change Print Settings at WillPrint

I see that the WillPrint event is triggered after the user dismisses the Print dialog box. I have a PDF where I want to only allow them to print page 1. Can I use the WillPrint event and change the print settings so only the first page is printed? Thank you very much.
    Rick

As try67 says, the event doesn't work like that.
WillPrint is exactly as it sounds - it's triggered when the user presses the Print button on the print dialog, so at that moment the document will print no matter what you do with the event; and they've already made their choices about what is going to emerge from the paper tray. If JavaScript could intercept those choices it would cause no end of problems.

  • Change print settings

Where are the printer settings for "draft", "photo", etc as in windows?
    Hi,
I have an HP Photosmart Air printer and am befuddled by the lack of ability to change settings on my new Macbook. Under system preferences there are no options for the above. When I try and print email from apple mail, everything is grayed out and overall doesn't come close to printing properly, hence the need to access the usual settings available on windows. The only options presented are "last used" or default, w/o actually stating what those are...arggh!
    help!

    Should be under Presets:
...(note that some of my saved Presets are ancient) ...and you should be able to modify any presets:
...at least that's how it's always worked with my printers...

  • Change Printer Settings?

Hi!  I work at a screenprinting shop in Goldsboro, NC.  We are having serious issues when printing to our ScreenWriter 4 printer with Adobe Illustrator.
We need to pull the thin sheets of vellum from the manual feed tray, and in order to do so, this setting has to be changed in the print settings dialog box.  When we go through and change the settings to vellum from the manual feed tray, Illustrator ALWAYS malfunctions and automatically quits.
    PLEASE HELP!
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
    Thanks so much!

  • Change print settings for email sent directly to the officejet pro 8630 printer

    HP Officejet Pro 8630 All-in-One
Trying to change settings for printing an email directly to the printer.
Email prints in color on separate pages, want black & white with two-sided.

    Hi @George1978,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I gather that you would like to learn how to change the print settings when sending an email to print on your Officejet Pro 8630 printer.
To better assist you, would you please supply some additional information:
How are you sending the print job to the printer? Are you sending it from your computer and choosing Print, from one of HP’s mobile apps, are you forwarding the email to the printer’s ePrint email address, or another method?
What operating system are you using on the device you are using to send the print job? I have included wikiHow’s guide titled How to Figure out Your Mobile Operating System if you are using a mobile device. If you are using a computer, please click on http://whatsmyos.com/ as it will tell you what your operating system is.
How is the printer connected (USB cable, ethernet, or wireless)?
    Thank you.

  • Epson printer driver no longer working after 10.4.11 update

It seems that my original Epson driver for my Stylus Photo 750 is no longer working after my latest Tiger update. The system does recognise it but shows an exclamation mark behind it and refuses to print with it (the document stays in the waiting line forever). Reinstalling as well as repairing permissions didn´t help. Fortunately the Gimp Epson driver is still working but I have no access to my coloursync profiles with this driver.
I know that many printer drivers need to be rewritten for Leopard (one of the reasons I didn´t update yet) but it is not understandable why problems happen with a Tiger update.
    Does anyone know a workaround?
    Thanks very much
    Wolfgang

I just discovered a similar problem. I have an old Epson SC3000 and under 10.4.11 my computer doesn't communicate with the printer. It's an AppleTalk printer, connected via Ethernet. I tried bypassing my network switch and connected it directly to the Mac-- no go. I then rebooted into 10.3.9 and printing works fine.
I downloaded the driver from Epson and installed it in 10.4.11. When I try to add the printer in the Printer Setup Utility, the machine just hangs-- can't force quit the utility and eventually the Finder even stops responding. It takes a hard reboot to clear up.
I can't say whether or not printing worked in earlier versions of 10.4. I haven't been using 10.4 for very long, and I rarely use the SC3000.
