Changing Profiles with Desktop Software

Add this to the wish list of features for the Desktop Software package.  I would like to be able to create and edit ring profiles on the desktop.  Such a feature would be much easier than doing it on the phone.
Thank you.

Turns out to be my WiFi. I don't know why, but I have to turn off WiFi on both of the tablets to be able to have it linked with my PC.
OK, I can live with that.
Thanks guys for your replies.

  • Playbook will not connect with Desktop Software

Playbook won't connect with desktop software any longer. Seems to have started after latest update to 2.0. Still working fine with my Torch 9810, but not with the Playbook. I even tried reinstalling the Desktop software, but no go. Tried to "forget" Playbook, but now I can't even add it as a device any longer!

possible you need to uninstall Device Manager, not Desktop Software.
Disconnect the PB from the computer.
    Uninstall the Device Manager.
Reboot your computer (for good measure)
Connect the PB using the USB cable.
Now you should see a PlayBook CD-ROM.
In that CD-ROM you will find version 7 of the Device Manager, install it.
Once installed disconnect the PB from the computer.
Wait for about 15 seconds then plug it back in.
Windows should detect new device and start Device Manager. It may take up to two minutes for windows to detect and properly install.
Then device manager will map 'z' drive to the PB.

  • PB will not communicatel with desktop software

Ok, this is driving me nut!  For whatever reason, when I hook PB to usb, the desktop software fails to communicate with the PB.  The software does recognize that the PB is connected, but can not get it to recognize anything else.  I have tried dturning off PB then connecting it, that does not work either.  Keep getting same error over and over.  "Blackberry Desktop Software can not communicate with the connected device."  Gives options to retry, update or cancel.  I have actually gotten it to work 2 times out of about 25-30 attempts.  The last time I got it to work, all syncs worked flawless.  Retried to do this process again about 3 hours later, and guess what NOTHING works again.  Have tired changing the file sharing properties and desktop manager, did not help.  Can not figure this out PLZ advise
    Chuckie

    Hello chuckie,
Uninstall the Desktop Manager from your computer and ensure your PC reboots.
Download a new installation package from www.blackberry.com/desktop and ensure your PlayBook is not connected when installing. After the installation completes, reboot your PC.
After the reboot completes, launch the Desktop Software and then connect your PlayBook.
Ensure you eject your PlayBook when you are ready to disconnect it.

  • Conflict with Desktop Software in XP

I have just taken possession of a Blackberry Torch 9800 but am unable to connect it to my  home computer through Blackberry Desktop Software.
The software and the phone both load perfectly well onto my XP desktop in the office so we know that there is nothing wrong with the phone itself.
The problem appears to be a conflict on my computer, which is a standard Dell computer running on Windows XP ( service pack 3).
    So here is the problem.
    1) I access the Blackberry site and download the Blackberry Desktop Software which apparently loads and launches as normal.  I say "apparently" because whenever I come to close it, it will not close and I need to go to Task Manager to shut it down.
    2) It asks me to connect the Blackberry to the USB which then kicks into its  "Found New Hardware" wizard, uploads a couple of drivers and then stops, alleging a fault. On checking, one of the drivers fails to have installed itself correctly.
And that's it. Game over. I have never got beyond that.
    What I have tried:
    1) A complete removal ( i.e. not just using the uninstall tool but also using regedit etc to clear out all RIM files ) and a re-download. No different.
    2) As above, but booting up the pc with the blackberry plugged in.
    3)  A complete removal and insert the disk which came with the phone. It did not autorun I found an .exe file and it kicked into the intializing Blackberry User Tools sequence which hung half way through and got nowhere.
    4) I copied the drivers from my Windows XP machine at work and then transferred them to my home pc in an attempt to fool it. It wasn't fooled.
    5) I cleaned up the registry with a professional piece of software (Regcure). The computer runs quicker, but no difference was made to this problem.
    Have you a suggestion, please?

    Hi,
From the history of MSJAV, we can see Microsoft Java Virtual Machine was unsupported since 2004. According to my test, the windows installer installation has no issues.  So can you install other program based on windows installer instead of Microsoft Java Virtual Machine as a test. If only the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine failed to install the program, I will suspect that Microsoft Java Virtual Machine originally does not support such actions by design.
Will you see the mapped driver on client PC from windows XP mode?
Make sure you have turned of UAC on the client PCs. When you say "manually map the drive" do you mean  "type \\server-ip" on the address bar from "My computer"?
    "open my computer
in the address bar type \\server-ip
    input credentials
    find the shared drive
right click and click map network drive "
From the feedback from other users encounter similar issues but on windows installer installation, disable integration features (under Windows explore\Tools option in a running VM), login to the VM and try again. Also change the network adapter from shared to bridge mode to check the result.

  • Problems Synching with Desktop Software & Outlook

I have the desktop software open and it recognizes my blackberry.  However when I click the arrows for synch btwn outlook and the blackberry it pops up an error box with no message.  When I click to the next screen it won't let me select an outlook profile. The Drop down box is empty.  Any suggestions?
    Thank you

Hi and Welcome to the Forums.
Very odd...no error message at all...in that case, all I can think to suggest is a totally clean start over...here's a procedure:
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista/Win7, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
Some have reported that there are more registry keys to remove than are discussed in that KB
Others have reported the use of a registry cleansing tool to also be helpful
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchronizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install DTM to your PC
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
    7) Start the organizer configuration over:
KB17022 How to configure organizer applications for synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
Hopefully that will get things going again.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Cannot connect with Desktop Software

    Hi,
Now, I am trying really hard to have faith in my Blackberry products. I must tell you, it's not easy. Last month, I ran into a lot of problems when backing up and updating my Torch (link: http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Torch/Password-manager-data-lost-during-update/m-p..., and this time, I have problems hooking 2 tablets to my Desktop software.
    Here is now my problem:
The Desktop Softwre takes at least 4 minutes to connect to my tablet. Once it connects, I can't have access to the left side menu, where it says: "Files" and also the "Video" menu. When I click there, it says: “A problem occurred while attempting to connect to your blackberry device” Therefore, I cannot transfer any files and videos into my Playbooks.
Also, the computer doesn't recognize it as an additional drive/memory. So, I cannot drag and drop files/videos that way neither. I know I was able to do this the first day I got my playbooks as I did transfer a couple of videos that way.
These 2 playbooks are barely new - and both cannot be hooked with the BB Sofware, therefore, I think my problem may be with the software, not with the units. Please help me.
    Thanks so much !!

  • Curve 9380 synchronization with Desktop software problem

The desktop software loads up fine and goes to synchronize.  I get an error message:  "A program error occurred at line 1548 in ./O|Access.cpp.  Please report ..."
I have reloaded the desktop softare a couple of tiems after doing a full wipe.
    Any ideas?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
From your post, I cannot quite tell if you've done this exact process...so I suggest this thread:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...
It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
    Good luck!

  • BB Storm inability to backup with Desktop Software

My wife and I have our own BB Storm, with separate Windows Vista Ultimate logins.  She is successful at backing up her Storm with the BB Desktop Software under either windows login, however I cannot backup my phone with the BB Desktop software under either windows login.
I receive an error message when the backup process in taking place:
When the backup process reaches "browser data cache" and below reads "backing up databases" an error box appears reading "error backing up databases".
I've had several issues with our phones - numerous times I have pulled the battery for 2 minutes on each phone to perform a soft reset. I've wiped the handheld several times on both phones.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the BB Desktop Software numerous times.  I've spoken with BB tech support, was escalated to their Tier 2 tech support, and even then they couldn't fix previous issues.  Luckily I've managed to resolve most Storm problems on my own, but I could use some help with this one.
    Thanks.
