Changing resolution on L171P Monitor

Hi - I have tried to change the resolution on my 17inch monitor but don't seem able to do it.  In the display settings it shows that it is currently set at 1280 x 800 but I read that the best viewing displaying (and would helpfully correct the distortion I am seeing with photos)  is 1280 x 1024 - but the slide rule is already the furthest right it can go at 800.
How do I change it?

What is the model of PC that is driving the monitor? Can its video subsystem generate 1280x1024?
Note that 1280x1024 has an aspect ratio of 4:3. This has been supplanted by widescreen 16:9 with a resolution of 1280x800 (or 1280x768 or 1280x720) in recent years. Your L171p is a 4:3 display, however your PC's video system may not be able to generate that.

  • KDE4 / Change resolution internal / external monitor - auto if pos.

I like KDE4 and use KDEmod. I've used it more or less as my main DE since 4.1. However, I often use my external monitor (1680x1050) instead of the internal (1280x800) -- yes, it's a laptop.
Now ... What I would like is to KDM (or anything similar) to recognize that I have my external vga-cable plugged in and turn off my internal monitor (as a default) and only use the external one.
As far as I can see Gnome is the only one capable of doing this; GDM-login is shown on both displays with the lowest resolution, but as soon as I'm logged in the internal is turned off and the correct resolution is set for the external. As for KDE, I need to go to 'Display' in System Settings and only then the switch is made.
How can I make my Arch Linux, powered by an Intel GMA965 (legacy drivers) and stock xorg, make KDE4 automagically sense the vga cable inserted and adjust accordingly? Is it possible that I can have this (as a default) real-time; say I start up the pc as a laptop-only, plug in my vga cable and intend to use it as a desktop and KDE recognizes this and turns off the internal and on the external ...
Is this solvable? At driver level? At Xorg level? At KDE level? Anyone??

How do you do that in gnome? I can't get the external to work. Gnome's "Display" settings won't even see that the external is connected.

  • External Monitor changing resolutions on Macbook

I have seen several people ask this question, but I haven't found a suitable answer. I have a MacBook running 10.6.8 at school. I teach and move from room to room hooking up to different projectors and monitors. The set up is just very unstable. Despite its supposed ability to remember settings, it rarely does and the resolutions are messed up as well as the display callibrations. I have an external monitor on my desk. Yesterday, I set the resolution to the native 1280x1024, when I plugged back in, it was back to 1024x768. For some reason, the higher resolution wasn't even appearing on the list until I fiddled with it.
Why is this so buggy on this MacBook running this OS? Is there a way to force it to remember display settings better? Any tips?
I know that other teachers have more problems than I do because they don't even know how to change resolutions or anything like that.
Thanks for any tips, tricks or helpful comments.

Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys.

  • Changing resolution in Solaris 10 sparc system

How do change resolution in solaris 10 on sparc system?
During install display was fine. Once boot to OS, display is bad. Need to know how I can change resolution to get a decent display on screen.

I'm not too sure about sparc hardware, as I don't know which graphic server it uses, but on my system(x86) the same thing happened. What I had to do was make an xorg.conf as the install doesn't create one.
On the CLI execute '/usr/X11/bin/xorgconfig' and this should step you through creating an xorg.conf file- as long as you are using the Xorg server of course.
    or
execute '/usr/X11/bin/Xorg -configure' this should create a basic xorg.conf and you just edit it yourself where appropriate.
Personally, if you know your graphic board, monitor, keybrd and mouse along with refresh rates the first method is probably best.

  • Imported mpeg videos change resolution.

I am importing mpeg videos to the project on PP 7.2.1 (4) under Windows 7 and they seem to change resolution and aspect ratio. Not sure if there is a setting that can be changed to override the aspect ratio and resolution when importing videos to the project ? Otherwise the video plays fine despite looking a little bit strange with this new aspect ratio of 1.1851.
The original video stream is (according to mediainfo):
    Format                                   : MPEG Video
    Format version                           : Version 2
    Format profile                           : Main@Main
    Format settings, BVOP                    : Yes
    Format settings, Matrix                  : Custom
    Format settings, GOP                     : M=3, N=15
    Duration                                 : 44s 478ms
    Bit rate mode                            : Variable
    Bit rate                                 : 9 071 Kbps
    Maximum bit rate                         : 8 900 Kbps
    Width                                    : 720 pixels
    Height                                   : 480 pixels
    Display aspect ratio                     : 16:9
    Frame rate                               : 29.970 fps
    Standard                                 : NTSC
After importing it to the project the properties are:
    Type: MPEG Movie
    Image Size: 540 x 480
    Frame Rate: 29.97
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Total Duration: 00:00:44:15
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.1851
Does anybody know if this can be corrected somehow?
    Thank you

Thank you - I went through the tutorials and I think I am running into a different issue (at least this is how ti looks).
The original video when opened in source monitor (before importing it into the project) shows properties of:
    Type: MPEG Movie
    Image Size: 540 x 480
    Frame Rate: 29.97
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Total Duration: 00:00:44:15
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.1851
and this is before importing it to the project just opening it in the monitor. Not sure what to think of it the video shows everywhere as 720*460 (16:9), when I click properties in windows in various media players and in MediaInfo but for some reason PP sees it as 540*480 (1:1851).
    Thank you

  • Imac try to change resolution

Hi! I've an Imac G5 17" iSight... I've a strange problem... display sometimes became blue, like if I try to change resolution and in about 2 second all come back normal.. other times it happens the same thing but it changes resolution, and I see a very low resolution for about 3-4 seconds..then it changes again resolution to normal resolution (1440x900)
When the display visualize low resolution I can see in the menu display on the top a very long list of resolution, like if it could see an external monitor I think...
I've already try to reinstall Tiger but nothing...
    Sorry for my bad english
    Thanks

I have a MBP Retina LCD (resolution 2880x1800) and in the office I use it with a Monitor Sony LMD-2450W connected by VGA. After installing 10.9.2 the resolution in the monitor has been downsized to 4:3 (and 1280x960) instead of its 16:9 display. Anyone know how can I change the resolution manually?
Display shows only 3 different resolution if I choose "scaled" but none use the full area of the monitor.
    Thank you
    Marco

This has been an ongoing problem with external monitors that predates 10.9.2. I wrote various tips on different methods here, though the best is probably the hot corner one:

  • How do I resize/change resolution of photos from iPhoto when used in iWeb

I am shooting with a 7.1 Mega Pixel Canon to get enough quality to crop and print high quality pictures of my baby daughter and her adventures in the world.
I have a website up made with iWeb, but when I select the photos in iPhoto and go Share / Sent to iWeb / photo page - I get a nice layout of the photos but at full resolution when the thumbnails are selected or the slide show is run. Although nice and sharp, this is a pain for anyone looking at the site even with high speed access.
There must be some way to resize photos, but I have yet to figure that out with iPhoto, let alone iWeb. And as one photo at a time is a pain, there must also be a way to rescale a whole selection of photos that I want to use for a page - say her Disneyworld trip. I can't be the first person to run into this, but I have not found anything out there to point me in the right direction.
Ideally I wold like to create a resized set from the originals - so I can still print and crop in high qulity. I also am not really sure what resolution would be best or easy viewing and download - that's probably subjective. 1200x800 comes to mind but I am open to suggestions.
Perhaps resize is not the right term - changing resolution is probably more accurate, but there too I have not found an answer.
    Appreciate the help and suggestions.

    dan28088,
Tried your site on two different browsers, using highspeed broadband; the site is, indeed, extaordinarily slow. We can dissect the thing down to the last file, but it won't change anything, as far as I can see. If it were me, I would host the site on another server. The .Mac servers are just plain slow, period. I think that is the primary problem here. Just my opinion, others may disagree.
I created a new site this past weekend for a new project, and published it to .Mac. It contains a lot of jpeg files in slideshows (along with the usual png suspects!) . After reviewing it a few times, and not being satisfied with page-load speeds, I published to a folder and uploaded the site to space on 1&1 WebHosting.
The page-load speeds TRIPLED. That's right...3X as fast page-load speeds. Even large, linked to files, 3MB+, load within a reasonable amount of time. (seconds)
I still will keep a .Mac subscription, as I like and use all of the other features of the iDisk. But for serious website hosting, I think you will be better 'served' with a remote host. Your money with .Mac is certainly not wasted; the syncing services and other features of iDisk space that integrate with your local files are well worth the yearly fee. Again, only one user's opinion, based on experience.

  • Can I change resolution and embed font in cloud acrobat?

I need to be able to change resolution on one manuscript pdf, so I purchased the monthly cloud acrobat, but now I'm not seeing the capability to change resolution on the document.
I don't have an ongoing need for high resolution pdfs, so my normal MS Word to pdf is usually fine.

Nothing in the world can increase resolution if that's what you want. Reducing resolution is done via Save as > Optimized PDF.

  • MacBook Pro (2011) won't display 2560x1440 native resolution on external monitor

I have the new MacBook Pro 15inch with 2.2Ghz quad core and an external NEC PA271W Monitor with a 2560x1440 native resoultion. I have them plugged together via the dual-link DVI-D cable but the MacBook pro will only recognize 1920x1080 as the max resolution on the NEC monitor. How can I output the max 2560x1440 resolution to the monitor?
The MacBook Pro is left open for dual screen view. Please help. Thanks!

I am surprised no one asked you the following question regarding your response.
What if I don't what 2 displays and I only want to support the external monitor? Can I be in extended mode and have only 1 display?
The reason why I ask is because I am going to buy a dock for my MacBook (2012). The dock forces the MacBook to close thereby rendering the internal display useless.
I think what I am after is some sort of "extended to external" mode.

  • T400s max resolution for external monitor ?

    Hello
What is the max resolution for an external monitor connected to a thinkpad t400s  ? The reason i am asking is that:
    a) Intel says:  the max resolution of Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD is 2048x1536
    b) Lenovo says:  DisplayPort + D-sub dual-display output support 2560×1600 maximum resolution
What are your experiences and what maximum resolutions on external monitors have you succesfuly tried in real life ?
Would it be possible to connect a 30" monitor at 2560x1600  to a thinkpad t400s ?

i don't know and i never tried but i'm inclined to trust intel more than lenovo on this...unless the t400s has some beefed-up x4500mhd

  • Why can't I enlarge safari bar and bookmarks bar so the print is larger.  I can only do this if I change resolution on display.  I do not want to make my 27" smaller.  Any comments?

After just installing Mountain Lion on mid 2011 iMac 27" I find it does not allow increasing size of font for Safari bar and Bookmarks bar.  The print is so small it is difficult to see.  I can change resolution of screen but the the size of the screen becomes smaller.  Not what I had in mind when I bought this iMac.  Is there any fix out there and is Apple working on this problem?  Any comments would be appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Could the Change Resolution App for Retina mess up Display?

This is a dumb question and I believe I already know the answer but I downloaded the Change Resolution App just to test out the 2880 setting. After doing so, I closed it out and then went to the settings on my laptop and chose best retina aka 1440. It seems like the retina display does not look as good as when I first took it out the box so I just wanted to make sure that by downloading this app and messing with it a few times, it didnt affect the way Apple sends you the laptop. Like I said, I went back and set it to the default setting but something didnt seem the same. I didnt know if Apple did something special to make it look so well but when you messed with the setting through an app it now has removed what they did and it doesnt go back to the way it originally was even when you go through the Apple settings and change it back to Best Retina display. Like I said, I know its probably a dumb discussion but I am not the most advanced when it comes to computer talk. I also read something about the way the display works through the 1440 setting allows 4x the pixels or something like that. I appreciate your help even for a noob question like mine.

    Anyone know the answer?

  • Controlling resolution on dual monitor configurations

We have a situation where we use a screen capture process that is having trouble when someone plugs in a dual monitor to a Macbook (Air, I think, but it applies elsewhere). The resolution on the external monitor ends up being higher than our screen capture device can handle, and causes it to crash.
Is there a way to control or limit the resolution of the monitor(s) in (and out of) dual configuration?
    Thank you.

I have a question about compatibility of monitors of different resolution. Currently I have an iMac 24 inch set to the maximum resolution 1920 x 1200. My second monitor is a large Hewlett-Packard which is currently set at resolution 1050 x 1680. It can be set as high as 1344 x 1008. If I move the Hewlett-Packard to another resolution I get the message that the input signal is out of range and asked me to return it to the setting 1050 x 1680.
Now to my question: I am considering getting the 27 inch iMac which has a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1440. My question is am I going to be able to use a 27 inch screen with the Hewlett-Packard second monitor without turning down the resolution on the 27 inch iMac? By the way the Hewlett-Packard monitor is a W2207H. Is the HP monitor going to work with that much difference in resolution?
I apologize if this is a naïve question but I just want to make sure that if I do upgrade I will not lose the services of my second monitor.
    Thanks
    Jim
