Changing restrictions passcode in iOS

In iOS 6 or 7 (or 8), how do I change a restrictions passcode without disabling and then reenabling restrictions causing all of the settings to be reset each time?

Go to Settings > Restrictions, enter the passcode 1234, and then select "Disable Restrictions". When it asks for the passcode, enter 1234 again.
Then, tap "Enable Restrictions", and this time enter the passcode you really want.

  • Finding Restrictions passcodes in IOS 5

My daughter has been playing with her itouch settings and has put on passcode restrictions, however she no longer has any idea what they are!  I have tried using a back-up extractor software however it does not give this information in IOS 5 and I cannot access a previous backup.  How can I find out or delete these restrictions passcodes.  I have tried to restore her itouch however it only gives me the option of the current backup i did just before trying to access this information.  I understand this shouldn'e be any easy process or all the kids would just find out their parent's passcodes however there must be some way of restoring to factory settings.  She has an itouch 4th Gen running IOS5

If you cannot remember the passcodefor Restrictions, you will need to Restore as New...
Connect the Device to the iTunes library you Usually Sync with, open iTunes, click on the Device tab that appears in the Left side column of iTunes, Select your Device, then go to the Summary Page and click Restore.
If necessary Place the Device into Recovery mode...

    - Restore from a backup that was make before you added the Restrictions passcode. If you restore from a backup made with the Restrictions passcode the Restrictions passcode is also restored.
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

  • Changing restrictions passcode

When i first bought my iPhone i was just checking out the features on it when i went into the restrictions section. It asked me to set a passcode so i just put in 1234 quickly because i wanted to see what it offered. I now actually want to use that feature but obviously i need to change the passcode. I cant find anywhere that says change your passcode except for the option above in passcode lock, but this is for a different passcode altogether.
    Can anyone help?

Go to Settings > Restrictions, enter the passcode 1234, and then select "Disable Restrictions". When it asks for the passcode, enter 1234 again.
Then, tap "Enable Restrictions", and this time enter the passcode you really want.

  • I have recently purchased an iPhone 4 off my uncle, he cant remember the restrictions passcode. Any way of me resetting the passcode?

I have recently purchased an iPhone 4 off my uncle, tried to activate my imessages and facetime and its telling me to check the restrictions, but i have a problem as i dont know what the passcode to get onto the restrictions is and neither does my uncle. Any way of me resetting the passcode or anything?

You have to restore the iPhone as a new device not from a backup unless the backup pre-dated the restrictions passcode

  • Restrictions passcode on iphone 4 changed by IOS 7.0.2?

I have set a restrictions passcode to both of my daughter's iphones restricting features and functions, one of them being the inability to change account features (like find my iphone - more on that in a moment).
In trying to disable the restrictions temporarily to install some apps, I have discovered that the passcode is no longer the one that I entered and have been locked out of making these changes. The same restrictions passcode does work on my other daughter's iphone. I have tried over a dozen of different lock codes, working around the failed attempt feature by changing the date and time on the device each time, none of them work.
I am guessing that somehow the recent upgrade to ios 7 and then 7.0.2 may have been responsible as the phone lock code changed on 3 of my other ios devices one morning without any rhyme or reason shortly after the first ios 7 upgrade. This is another matter that resolved itself after a few hours. weird thing is that it was the same passcode that is giving me trouble on this device now.
In an attempt to restore the problem phone from a recent backup (dated 9/2013 and preceeding the ios upgrade bs) I was asked to disable the find my iphone feature before it will let me restore from this backup. Unfortunately, since I have set this as a feature on her phone that cannot change without first entering the restrictions passcode I cannot disable this feature at all.
    What the heck???
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your prompt reply diesel vdub.
Maybe I wasn't clear that I did not actually forget my passcode although I can understand this being the kneejerk response as this seems to be a popular topic on the forums.
The passcode literally changed to something else.
Since it is a passcode that I use on my other ios devices and I'm the only one authorized to change it, it is my presumption that some other event occurred and all fingers point to the recent ios 7 upgrades especially given the information shared with me by several of my colleagues that the ios 7 upgrade rebooted their devices with a lock code that never existed prior to the upgrade. I should point out that each person is very competent technically.
This is a bug perhaps that will be addressed witn ios 7.0.3??

  • Restriction passcode that was never set, IOS 7.0.6 Latest update

Well this is certainly frustrating.  I recently updated IOS to 7.0.6 on my iphone 4g.  First I noticed my screen was locked to vertical.
When I went to change this I came along my restrictions, and noticed a restriction passcode was set.  I never had this locked, I have tried every set of  numbers I usually set to ...sadly with no results and longer wait time.
I searched the forums and got discouraged.  Reset to factory settings or to latest back-up.  Latest back-up would be great, if you didn't back it up when passcode restriction was on, which then means you have to do a factory reset.
From now on I am going to configure my new iphone device with calendars, contacts, & notes with a more reliable source, like my laptop or computer.  Completely tired of these issues of having my information for ransom, with the possibility of it being lost for good.
To solve my problem, my idea is to look around the forums on how to transer all my contacts, notes, and calendars to a different platform other than iphone.
Any help on this would be great.
I  have a MacBook Pro, ipad air, and the last MacPro tower.  I thought I was ingenious when I set all my contacts, notes, and calendars across all devices under same Apple ID.  (mail, account, and other stuff was under device apple id, I just kept the same ID as phone for 3 mentioned above).
It was a good idea in theory, but there is something buggy with the contacts, and now this restrictions passcodes.  I will remember in the future for any ipad, or iphone to have it synched with an account that is reliable, especially for these apps.
I'm due for a new iphone, wondering if that will quick fix the first problem, not sure if my solution above is even a reasonable solution.  So any help would be great.

  • Never had a restrictions passcode, can't change settings now

Hi, hoping someone can help figure out what I'm doing wrong.
I've only just updated my iPad to ios 6 and it now asks me for a restrictions password when i need to change any location settings.
The previous operating systems I had never had any restrictions passwords and it doesn't accept the only four digit code that I ever use.
I have restored from scratch and it still asks for a password which I have never set up before.
How am i supposed to change location settings now if this restrictions passcode that I've never set up won't let me through?
Any help would be awesome! This has been really, really frustrating and I won't be buying any more Apple products if this stupid issue can't be fixed unfortunately! Sick of it
    Cheers

Yeah, I'm definitely on the latest and greatest.
I've also trashed Pref's to no avail. Thanks for the tip on dragging the clip into the L&C window. Very useful. That's why I love this place. Thanks.
Let me know if you can do that when you get done capturing.
-Also something else I've noticed. Previously I could also click on the Reel column of a captured clip and change the reel name if I needed to. Since 5.1 I can no longer do this as well. Major pain the butt b/c I have an absent minded shooter that always wants to capture his own footage but never remembers to put his reel names in. In the past I could clean up after him. Now I can't do this.

  • HT5624 how do i change or find my restrictions passcode if I don't remember it?

How do I change(or find) my restrictions passcode if I forgot it?

    Hi, klittle24.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you lose or forget a restriction passcode, you will need to perform a factory restore to remove it.  Make sure to import your photos and manually backup your device prior to processing these steps.

  • HT201304 ? I have forgotten my restrictions passcode and can't make any changes. I have already did a reset with iTunes but it still didn't help. The restrictions lock is still there.

I set a restrictions passcode and have completely forgotten it. I have tried to reset with iTunes but it just clears out my phone and when I turn it back on its still locked in the restrictions menu. U can't do a reset on your phone without it... So I don't know what to do.. Help!!!

    There is no default code.
    - Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and restore via iTunes. For how to restore: iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    You have to either:
    - Restore from a backup that was make before you added the Restrictions passcode. If you restore from a backup made with the Restrictions passcode the Restrictions passcode is also restored.
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod

  • IPad2 with iOS 6 and it changed my passcode.  Why?

I just updated my iPad2 with iOS 6 and it changed my passcode.  What gives and why did it do that?  It has locked me out with no way to shut it down.  Any ideas?

iOS 6 did not change your passcode.
If you have forgotten the passcode then you will need to restore your iPad from the same computer that you most recently synced to.
    Read this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
If you can't do the restore then you will need to try recovery mode.

Is there any way to change the restrictions passcode short of erasing all content and starting over?

    Remove restriction password
    1. Restore to Factory Default
    2. You can also restore from a backup before you enable the Restriction Code

  • HT4137 Please I don't remember the restriction passcode on my ipad 2 running ios 7.1. Please any help to reset it because I don't want to loose my documents?????

Please I don't remember the restriction passcode on my ipad 2 running ios 7.1. Please any help to reset it because I don't want to loose my documents?????

The only option is to wipe the device clean and restore it to factory settings.  Hope you have a backup.
Follow the instructions in  iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 to restore the device to factory settings.
Once you have setup the device as a new one, you can then sync it back with your iTunes account and all your music, apps, contacts and any other content sync'ed with iTunes will be loaded on the device. Any content that is stored only on the device and not sync'ed with iTunes, like app logins or data, will be lost during this process. Be forewarned that this is a long process and can take a couple of hours or more to complete. This can be painful, but it is necessarily so to prevent users from working around the security settings. After the restore is complete, you can setup a new Restrictions passcode. Make a note of the passcode to avoid this situation in future.
     Cheers, Tom

  • HT5538 If you change your Apple ID, does that add a restrictions passcode?

If you change your Apple ID, will that add a restrictions passcode?

No. However, a Restrictions can be set that prevent changing accounts

  • I forgot my restrictions passcode, if I do a restore to new with my phone and change the passcode, can I then backup from a previous restore

I forgot my restrictions passcode, if I do a restore to new phone in iTunes and change the passcode, can I then backup from a previous restore to put everything back onto my phone.

No you cannot. The restrictions passcode is part of the backup, and if you restore to a backup that contains the restrictions passcode, you will be right back where you started. Only alternative is to restore the device as new, or if you restore to a backup, it has to be before the restrictions passcode was entered into the phone. However, that could mean that you would be restoring to a date that does not contain all of your data.
