Changing Root password in HP-UNIX will affect any R/3 servers

Hi,
we are running R/3 on HP-Unix with Oracle as database and we would like to change the Root Password of UNIX for security reasons and would like to confirm changing the ROOT password will affect any SAP R/3 servers or will it change any of the parameters at OS level that will have affect on R/3.
Please do let me know what are the changes that will take place once we change the root password at OS level and R?3 level.

Hardcoded passwords into the scripts isn't a good practice, but if you're not sure about yours, go to the directory(es) where you have them (p.e. /usr/local/bin) and run
<i># grep <b>your_pwd</b> *.sh</i>
It must show you if there's this word into one of the shell scripts.

interesting that my gmail account does work perfectly.

this may or may not help - but give it a try. On a forum some were reporting that talk21 is now under the yahoo umbrella. below are the steps this use listed. (This was an android forum, but the email settings should be the same. In short it looks like their server names have changed. An existing account may have simply been forwarded - but if you are reinstalling, it may want a clean install to the right servers.) Pay particular attention to the server names and port settings. (this thread was started based on a discussion of Imap vs pop - you are already an Imap person - so ignore that part)

why settle for pop3, when IMAP works with talk21 and not only does mail get pushed out faster with IMAP, but when you click refresh it will be received faster than pop3. The other advantage is subfolders are also supported with IMAP but cant be seen with POP3. This mail feature works with my android eclair & hero phone and the settings are exactly the same for win mobiles also (not tested). The mail setting up roadmap is the same from what i can remember once in the mail feature for win mobi.
This is what you need to do to setup Talk21 email with IMAP.
Incoming server settings
IMAP server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
Port - 143
Security type - none
Outgoing Server settings
SMTP server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Port - 25
Security type - none Also important note - Enable 'require sign-in'
and enter your talk21 username and password The End...works a treat for me p.s. Its only taken me 3 years to work it out with win mobile and recently with android. Finally got it to work...hope this helps all the talk21 users out there. if there are any other similar posts out there with no answer...dont forget to mention my name when passing this post around.

[SOLVED] Need to change root password - current one doesn't work

Hey everybody,
Not sure where to put this, so I apologize if it's in the wrong forum.
I just installed Arch on my Dell netbook and all is well, except for issues with the root password. I am having a great deal of difficulty getting it to work. I know for a fact that I am typing it correctly. However, I did have trouble getting it set during the installation. When I try several times, I have gotten it to work, but I am getting tired of having to do that, and now I can't seem to get it to work at all. I have even tried a different keyboard, but with no luck.
Is there any way to change the root password short of a reinstall?
Thanks in advance for any help, but please keep in mind that I am relatively new to Linux and would greatly appreciate detailed instructions.

Solved. Should anyone else have this issue, I solved it by entering this command:
sudo passwd root
I set a new password and it seems to work fine.
Didn't know if it was possible to change the root password that way, but glad it worked!

Preventing local admin from changing root password

Is it possible to prevent a local admin from changing the root password? I would like to set up a computer so that the user has admin rights, but cannot change the root password via a terminal shell to gain root access.

I can't provide you with details, but I'm sure that all you need to do is to edit the sudoers file. It needs to be edited with <visudo> when logged in as root in a Terminal. The location is </private/etc/sudoers>, but you don't need to know that when using <visudo>. From a first look I'd suppose you only have to uncomment the %admin line, but better get some more information. I never did this myself.

Can not change root password for WCS

Need to change the root password for the web gui.
WCS is running on linux, i have tried to do the passwd user-root but it cames back saying it can not find the username.

You could use the recovering password procedure for wcs as a workaround (chapter 14 of the following link http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/wcs/7.0/configuration/guide/WCS70cg.html )
Recovering the WCS Password
You can change the WCS application root user or FTP user password. This option provides a safeguard if you lose the root password. An executable was added to the installer /bin directory (passwd.bat for Windows and passwd.sh for Linux). Follow these steps to recover the passwords and regain access to WCS. For password recovery on a wireless location device, refer to chapters 8 or 9 of the Cisco 2700 Series Location Appliance Configuration Guide.
Note If you are a Linux user, you must be the root user to run the command.
Step 1 Change to the WCS bin folder.
Step 2 Perform one of the following:
Enter passwd root-user newpassword to change the WCS root password. The newpassword is the root login password you choose.
or
Enter passwd location-ftp-user newuser newpassword to change the FTP user and password. The newuser and newpassword are the FTP user and password you choose.
Step 3 The following options are available with these commands:
•-q — to quiet the output
•-pause — to pause before exiting
•-gui — to switch to the graphical user interface
•-force — to skip prompting for configuration

Changed my password and now it will not "stick" on my iphone4

Changed my password recently ..My computers and iPad have accepted the new password and work fine. My iPhone however will not change. I change it and get the green checks in Settings but as soon as I go to mail it says password doesn't match. When I go back to settings the old password is back ?!

According to your description, you might want to get the root folder name in SharePoint Designer Workflow when there is file uploading.
The “Path” field of the current item holds the relative path of a file, as a workaround, you can retrieve the value of the “Path” as string, then split the string
value with a delimiter character of “/” to meet your requirement.
In SharePoint Designer 2010, there is no OOTB action to split the string. You can use the custom workflow actions below to achieve it.

Keep changing root password, keeps telling me password is wrong in terminal.

I used the migration tool to copy my documents over from my PC, but it created a separate user account. I want to move those files to my current account, but I don't have permission to access the folder unless I'm logged into that account (in which case I don't have access to the folder I want to move them to). I tried to change the folder permissions, but it said my root user password was incorrect. I changed it, got no error in doing so, and tried again. Still got the error. I found a thread with a similar problem (but not the same one) and followed the instructions in it. Still got the same error. How can I fix this?

When you open terminal have you tried the command, without the quotes "dsenableroot"? You must be logged in as a local admin to do this.
If you try this, terminal will ask you for your admin account password then you can enter a new password for root and verify the new password. Exit terminal Log out and log back in with username root and the password you put in for the root account when you were in terminal.
There is a definite problem, or actually a couple of problems, with the directory utility when trying to enable root from directory Utility / edit. Going the dsenableroot in terminal clears these problems out.

I just changed my Apple password successfully. However, the change does not save to my iPad or iPhone. I have tried to manually change it on these devices, but it continues to revert back to the old password.

After you type command reset .... and press button, you should push this button and wait preboot menu on display.
Possbily, more easy way - Connect dongle with monitor to this blade. Remove Blade from chassii ( not fully). Install blade again and immedeately push button "locator" and wait.

Cube compression will affect any data availability

Hi,
have an issue where I have a user running exactly the same report with the same selection criteria but getting different results.
The report was run from backlog this morning at 09:56 and again at 10:23. Although the batch was delayed, the data was actually loaded prior to 09:45. However, there was a cube compress running between 09:45 and 10:11.
So, the first report was run during the compress, the second after the compress was complete.
Could the compress process affect data availability to the end users? I can find no other explanation for this behaviour.

one thing in advance: The next only applies to oracle databases. I have no experience with other databases.
the compression will usually not affect the reported data. But in case of the user doing the reporting while the compression is ongoing, it is indeed possible that the query will deliver wrong results. The reason is, that the collapsing collects the data of the not yet collapsed infopackages into the F table. The query will usually start parallel processes on all the available infopackage E tables and on the F fact table. Because of the amount of data F- table is larger, so the job there will be the longest running. After collecting the results, the results are added up.
Depending on the timing of the collapse run and the timing of the query it is possible that the collapsed data package was already successfully packed in the fact table, but the deletion of the infopackage was not completed (result: Key figures to high). Or alternativly the infopackage was already deleted but the F-table not completly commited - because of the query (result Key figures to low).
All in all I would strongly recommend to do collapsing at times where no query is run on the cube.

Spontaneously I am unable to access my network. Perhaps Apple believes it would be a swell idea to change my password without my knowing it? Any thoughts as to why or how this would happen?

Try powering off and then back on the router.
Go to System Preferences>Network and creae a new location and try again

Hi All,
I am having Oracle 11g 11.1.0.7 on windows server.
There are many spatial application running on this which is very critical. I having the issue from the spatial team that the service is getting crash many time this eventually making us to restart the spatial services which rely on this database.
When I check the spatial log all the failiures happend at 10:00 PM.
While checking the alert log there is default_maintenance_plan scheduler window is kicking of exaclt on the same time (10:00 PM).
Whether the meintenance sheduler window is going to impact any running services which rely on my database?
Could you please guide me on this?

It may affect other processes. You should change the default maintenance window to start later when your spatial processing has finished.

Lost root password Can't get in to reset.........Ultra 5/10 Solaris

Just bought an Ultra 5 Sun desktop at the thrift store. This thing is brand new and was still in the box. Fired it up and come to find, it has never even been configured so I did so myself. I entered a User name and then followed that with setting up a new password for the first time. The system reboots on it's own and goes to a point asking for my Name and then password. Only problem is the password will not even type into the bar that requests it. Do I need to reset it and if so how?

Hi, boot with single user mode using cmd boot cdrom -s,then use passwd cmd to change root password.if it doesn't work.mount your root slice as /a,then edit /etc/shadow file and delete root passwd entry.I hope this tip fix your problem. : )
