Changing RSS feeds and a broken feed

Hey everyone. I'm changing the RSS feed for my podcast, and am wondering how to bring down the old stuff from the other RSS feed. I'm also having trouble with this new feed, iTunes keeps saying that it is having trouble downloading the episodes. I tried so many different things to try and get it to work, and I'm certain that what I have now should be working. If someone could take a look at my feed and let me know what I have to change, that would be great!

Thanks a bunch,

Drunkards and Dragons

Your Store page is at https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/drunkards-and-dragons/id602663440?mt=2
The Store isn't using the feed you linked to, but the one at
http://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/34731626-drunkdnd/tracks
This has three episodes, all of which play in the Store and the two I checked downloaded on subscribing.
Your feed at http://feeds.feedburner.com/drunkdnd has four episodes; it can be subscribed to manually in the Store and the episodes download OK, so I'm not sure what the problem is. However this feed uses different episode media URLs; they are hosted on archive.org and are using https rather than http, and although the iTunes application handles them when subscribing it's possible that the Store itself is baulking at them. It would be better if you could provide a direct http URL to the files.
If you want to move the Store from using the soundcloud feed to the feedburner one you will need to add an 'itunes:new-feed-url' tag to the old feed, containing the URL of the new feed. The process is decribed in detail here:

  • RSS Feeds and own domain -- sorry but this is kind of a long question

I've been reading the very useful advice on RSS feeds and how they work with your own domain name.
I am trying to update my blog to my hosted site and I can't get it to follow the RSS path so that the subscription link works. (I am getting a file not found error message.)
I updated and published the site on .mac, where it is fine. <http://web.mac.com/lisajacobs/iWeb/Immigra/Blog/Blog.html>
Then I published the site again to the same folder I used when I put the site up this morning. Since I only wanted to change the blog pages and not the entire site, I ftp'ed up the Blog folder to my own domain site <http://www.immigra.com/Blog/Blog.html>
The published web folder on my desktop has in it folders along the lines of Extraordinary_files and Extraordinary.html and so forth for the different pages of the site. However, there is no corresponding Blog.html file.
I am thinking that this missing file may be the cause of the RSS problem -- but where is it? Why didn't iWeb make it for my folder? (I have an old Blog.html file on my site but it is clearly from the last iteration of the blog, as the latest blog entry is not there.)
Or is there a different cause of the problem that I am not diagnosing? I am reluctant to ftp the entire site up every time I change the blog for two reasons 1) I made an edit to the html code on the welcome page (so that links would open a different page) and 2) it takes a really long time to upload the whole thing, which makes it a pain to have quick blog updates.\

    However, when I uploaded
only the blog folder and its contents, it did not
    appear on my site.
I see the last entry as May 10, so that's the old one right?
My guess would be that you did not actually upload the new blog folder. Depending on how you have things organized, you may still have your old one there somewhere, and you may have selected it by mistake with your ftp program.
I would double-check the Blog folder on your drive to make sure it has been updated, and that this is the folder you have tried to upload.
Does publishing to the folder in itself change the
entire structure so that the whole site has to be
    FTP'ed up again?
    No.

  • Changed feed and deleted old account.  iTunes Store still showing deleted content?

I was a former use of Podomatic and published my RSS feed to iTunes in order to publish my podcasts.  I am now publishing to iTunes direct from my webserver via software "Feed For All" that I purchased.  iTunes approved the changed URL RSS feed and it's working fine in the iTunes store.  All that is available via the Feed for All URL is being published by iTunes, so that's not the problem.  The problem lays in that I deleted my Podomatic account approximately 7 days ago, and iTunes Store still shows the Podomatic content ... i.e., unplayable and not working podcasts as well as the avatar from my Podomatic account.
How long does it take for iTunes to strip out the old Podomatic stuff?
    Thank you.

His content will only be where he put it.
Has he copied his content from his old comptuer to the new one?

  • I want to change my news source from the BBC to something from North America. How do I find a new feed and site location?

I want to change my Latest Headlines news source. How do I find a new feed and site location? I found the properties box for "Latest Headlines".

You can visit your favorite news site or search Google for one and if it has a feed then you can click to orange RSS feed icon at the right side of the location to subscribe to that feed.

  • RSS feeds and Safari

When using Safari under Leopard my RSS feeds aren't working correctly. Using my existing bookmarks, I pull down to one of the RSS bookmarks, just as I did with Tiger. I then get an error message like
"Safari can’t open the page “feed://www.sfgate.com/rss/feeds/news.xml”. The error was: “The feed could not be loaded because the content is not in a known feed format.” (PubSub:2) Please choose Report Bugs to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message."
All I have to do is click on the Reload button and the feed shows up fine. So why doesn't it just go ahead and show the feed the first time. The URL does not change at all after hitting the Reload button, but the page shows up as it should then.

I cannot help because I have the same problem. It comes and goes. Started last week and went away. Then it happened again this morning. It will NOT work when I hit reload. I am glad to know I am not the only one. I reset permissions, cleared history and cache and am going after the library files next. But I cannot associate any action I have taken with the mysterious return of the capability of Safari to read xml.

  • Pubsub, RSS, Safari, and feeds that won't go away

So...I've been helping out a friend of mine with an interesting issue.  He has somehow managed to subscribe to a less the reputable RSS feed (mobilism).  Here's some places/steps I've taken:
Safari->Bookmarks->Show all Bookmarks->All RSS Feeds-> deleted everything there
~/Library/Pubsub/Feeds-> deleted everything here, including sub-directories
    ~/Library/Pubsub/Database-> deleted Database.sqlite2
Doing a "pubsub list" in terminal will, after doing the above, show nothing.  However, rebooting the machine and starting Safari, sure enough...if I go to terminal and type "pubsub list" it's there again.  Anyone have any thoughts on just how this thing is coming up again?  Thanks.
    James

Heh...so this is solved.  Apple stores rss feeds in a varity of places...bookmarks, bookmark bar, topsites, rss feeds, and pubsub.  Of great annoyance is the fact that even if you go to "All RSS Feeds" and emtpy it, RSS feeds elsewhere (TopSites) won't show up.  Long story short you get to search around and try and find where it's at   Quite a hoot.

  • RSS feed and DOMParser. Confused and urgent.

Hi, I'm VERY new to RSS and have decided to give this application a try.
I'm trying to create a java application that reads
    http://weather.nearperfect.com/weather/world.rss/081/c00234
and prints out informations such as "Title, link, description", and etc.
However, I don't know how to use a DOMParser to read the URL.
    I have tried
    DOMParser parser = new DOMParser();
parser.parse("http://weather.nearperfect.com/weather/world.rss/081/c00234");but have not yet tested it with the nodes. I'd just like to ask before going in further if there is any one who has done RSS feed and DOMParser know how to do this. I'm at wits end and have been googling for few hours now.

    Hi,
Thanks for the help, that is much appreciated. Sadly I'm still having the same issue. The two old dead feeds are still on iTunes after weeks of me asking for them to be removed and also after me putting the block tag into the rss feed. My new one still hasn't shown up even though it was updated on Saturday... it's really a nightmare.
    Can someone please please help.
    Thanks
    xx

  • ITunes U RSS feeds and Firefox Live bookmark

It seems there is a problem with rss feeds and ffox live bookmarks.
I tried subscribing to - http://deimos3.apple.com/WebObjects/Core.woa/Feed/itunes.stanford.edu.1524698736 .01524698739. However I do not get the plus sign indicating there are additional items.

Apple allows you to interact with iTunes U as an administrator through an XML-based web service. It's described in the iTunes U administrators guide:
    http://tinyurl.com/5nm73n
In particular, you're looking for the UpdateGroup web service directive:
    http://tinyurl.com/bmh2xw
If you send Apple an UpdateGroup directive, referring to a specific group (tab) within a course that feeds from one of your RSS servers, you're asking Apple to process the feed "now" (where "now" is defined to be "as soon as possible") as opposed to having to wait for an overnight feed refresh.
Have a look at the documentation ... if you're a little bit of a developer, it should make some sense. If not, I owe someone from Apple a favor and might give you a simpler way of using the directive ... without requiring you to write code yourself.

  • Help - Changed RSS Feed

I was hoping someone could help me with this issue I have.
I have been using Libsyn for about 1 year to push my RSS feed to iTunes. It worked like a champ. My website is www.bowcast.com and my RSS feed was www.bowcast.com\rss.
Recently, I have redesigned my website and moved it to a new server. My website is working fine. I re-submitted my RSS feed to iTunes about 10 days ago (new feed - http://www.bowcast.com/index2.php?option=compodcast&feed=RSS2.0&nohtml=1). I have the following issues:
    1) iTunes has not been updated. It still has the old RSS feed, and my users are getting an error that the "old" RSS server could not be found (which makes sense because I have moved it. Therefore, my latest episodes are available on my new site, but not in iTunes.
    2) I actually want the "old" iTunes submission (i.e. the old artowrk that I submitted over a year ago) to be taken down and the new RSS feed with the new artwork be posted.
Does anyone have any idea what I could be missing? I contacted Apple support and they suggested I start here.
Any help you could provide would be greatly apppreciated.
    aroney

It still has the old RSS feed, and my users are getting an error that the "old" RSS server could not be found (which makes sense because I have moved it. Therefore, my latest episodes are available on my new site, but not in iTunes.
By submitting a new URL to iTunes (if you become approved) you have in effect created a duplicate listing in the Store of your podcast. The new URL doesn't have any connection with your previous listing . . . so your old listing will be the way it is forever, unless you still have access to Libsyn or you send in a request to get the listing removed. Also, none of your old subscribers will know about your new listing unless they specifically go looking for it.
It looks like what you wanted/should have done was to put in a redirect in your Libsyn feed so that you didn't lose any subscribers, and didn't create a second listing in the store. I would still recommend trying this if your new listing hasn't shown up and if you still have access to Libsyn.
As for your second question, when/if your new feed is approved, it will contain your new artwork and any new elements you have put in your feed.

  • Read an RSS feed and paste text

    Hi,
I'm needing an automator action to read a specific rss feed on a daily basis and take the text of that feed and paste it into OmniOutliner Pro.
I've tried tooling around with it myself without much success. Any help or tips would be appreciated.

    Safari 6
RSS feature is no more available in Safari 6.
    Apple removed it.

  • We had to change the feed adress and the epsiode adresses. Now all the episodes of my podcast are downloaded (although i have downloaded them already). How can I make the changes in my feed and avoid that all the episodes are reloaded?

    Hello,
We had to change the feed adress (<itunes:new-feed-url>)and the epsiode adresses in the feed because the feed and the episode-files are on a new server. Now when i open my iTunes subscription of our podcast all the episodes of my podcast are downloaded again (although i have downloaded them already).
My Question therefore is: How can I make the changes in my feed and avoid that all the episodes are reloaded?
    Maybe have an answer?
    Thank you very much.

Thank you very much for your answer
As I see now, our 'guid' tags contain the episode URLs
To avoid this problem in the future i would like to change guid tags. Can you please tell me how a guid tag should look like if it is not the URL?
    Thank you for helping us!
ps now it looks like this eg:
    <guid isPermaLink="false">http://www.castyourart.com/podcasts/213_thinkglobal_en.mp4</guid>

  • How do I subscribe to RSS feeds and manage RSS feeds?

I can't figure out how to subscribe to RSS feeds and manage RSS feeds?

    Hi TedEvansJr,
Subscribing to a feed is pretty easy in Firefox. Just take a look at [http://kb.mozillazine.org/RSS:_Live_Bookmarks_overview_%28Firefox%29 this article] and you should be ready to go.
    Hopefully this helps!

Please note - this was not a personalized email - Apple is sending this out to ALL podcasts that are listed on iTunes.
If you are hosting with Libsyn or most any other "Podcast" host you should be ok.
    http://blog.libsyn.com/libsyn-servers-are-byte-range-enabled-and-100-compliant-w ith-i-tunes-requirements
If you are on a self hosted site or worse yet using some file storage service like Dropbox - then you are going to have issues.
Again - this leter from Apple does not mean anything is wrong wth your show specifically - it is a generic letter going out to all podcasters.

  • User and thread feeds - wrong links in feed icon - Admins please check

It seems (at least for me) that the user- and thread-specific feeds are broken. There are feed icons on user (for example: [https://forums.sdn.sap.com/profile.jspa?userID=3472354]) and thread (for example: [How to hide the columns in EVDRE]) pages. The tooltip for these icons indicate that it is a feed for the specific user or thread, but it actually just redirects to the main feed page where I can subscribe to individual forums.
Am I doing something wrong here?
    Thanks!
    Ethan
Edited by: Thomas Zloch on Oct 14, 2010 9:35 AM

    Hi David,
No, that is incorrect. It is an issue with the SDN web page, not with the feeds or a feed reader. Try clicking on the little orange RSS icon at the bottom of this page. The page it redirects to is not an RSS feed - it is a web page that lists RSS feeds.
For a long long time I thought that this was what was meant to happen. But I was really confused about why I couldn't find the feeds for threads or users, but the threads and users seemed to think that they had their own feeds. So I asked (a year ago).
Then, more recently, I realized that the link at the bottom of the page was incorrect and if I re-jiggered it a little bit I could get to the actual RSS feed of the thread. Please take another look. Hopefully we can get this fixed!
    Thanks,
    Ethan
