Changing Safari to 32 Bit mode

I have seen a few instructions on how to change safari to 32 bit mode.
Finder>application>safari>get info
However when I get to the get info, general there are no options for me to change to 32 bit mode. Please help!

Hi Esquared, Thank you for your answer.
So if there is a website that only works on 32 bit mode I will be unable to access it with my Mac?

  • How do I run Safari in 32 bit mode on Ipad2?

Need advise on how to change settings to run Safari in 32 bit mode on Ipad2. 32-bit mode is required for my daughter's online assignments. Not sure about OS - should be factory setting since it was not upgraded.

The iPad 2 uses Apple's A5 processor which is based on the ARM Cortex-A9 CPU. ARM processors are 32-bit only CPUs, so all software that runs on these CPUs is, by definition, 32-bit. There's nothing to set.
If your daughter's homework requires a 32-bit version of the browser, then it's not the browser she's using. Web browsers themselves simply render HTML and interpret Javascript. In the browser, there's no sense of 32-bit or 64-bit; they'd be indistinguishible. The only time 32-bit versus 64-bit applies would be for a plug-in to the browser. Mobile browsers don't typically support plug-ins; Mobile Safari certainly doesn't.
Your daughter is not using the web-browser for her assignments, but rather another application that uses the browser to present it. In that case, you're going to need a desktop computer (or virtual machine) and operating system that meet that plug-in/application's requirements. Your iPad will not suffice.

  • Safari in 64-bit mode on Snow Leopard does not play YouTube videos

Recently Safari stopped playing youtube videos while Safari is in 64-bit mode. The entire page renders correctly; however the area where the video is supposed to play remains a black box without controls. I can watch video from other sites, or I can watch video from youtube if I use another browser like firefox. Additionally, I can go to the youtube video owner's channel and view videos there just fine. It's only when I try to view videos that use the "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=" method of displaying a video using Safari in 64-bit mode that it fails to play -- it plays fine with Safari in 32-bit mode.

    Upgrading to 10.2 didn't help.
It's not !. Flash player 10.1 is no better (as you can verify by downgrading here http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html)

  • Help! My copy of CS5 won't show lighting effects, and changing it to 32 bit mode does nothing

    Hi guys,
I have a copy of CS 5.1 and my system is a Macbook Pro on Mac OS 10.6.8
I want to use lighting effects, so I changed it to 32 bit mode. So I go in to Photoshop and it's not there. I reset PS's settings, restart the computer as well. Still nothing.
Wah. It worked before in the past, so why not now? Also I checked the plugin folder to make sure the lighting effect plugin was actually there and, yes it was. So what gives?
Anyway, any help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated, thankyou

Ok this is the render menu in 32 bit mode. Annndddd...
I noticed there is still the 'x64' beneath CS' title... is that supposed to be there when you boot in 32 bit mode? Or could it be that my CS just isn't loading in 32 bit?
    Anyway thanks for replying!

  • Viewing PDFs in Safari in 64-bit mode - how?

For me, in 64 bit mode, Safari insists on using Preview to view PDFs (and which is slow and clunky).
If I make Safari downgrade itself to 32 bit mode, it properly calls up Acrobat to view PDFs.
How can I have Safari running in native 64 bit mode and call up Acrobat to view PDFs on webpages? Or is it not possible?

If you have Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat Pro installed, the plugin they install to view PDF files in Safari is not 64-bit compatible. Aside from that, unless you have more than 4 GB of RAM installed in your machine, you will not benefit in any way from running Safari or any other application in 64-bit mode, so you should be running everything in 32-bit mode.
Because Safari is perfectly capable of rendering PDF files on it's own, you need to ditch Adobe Reader or Acrobat Pro, or at the very least, deactivate them so they are not called when you want to view a PDF file. To do that:
    Quit Safari if it's running.
Start Adobe Reader and/or Acrobat Pro.
Go to Preferences > Internet and uncheck the box at the top where it says "Display PDFs in browser using:", or something similar to that.
Quit Adobe Reader and/or Acrobat Pro and restart Safari to test it.

  • Is It Better To Run Safari In 64-Bit Mode?

I happened to notice via the Activity Monitor that Safari was running in 32-Bit Mode so I switched it so it would launch in 64-Bit Mode and haven't seen any problems so far.  Safari also launches so much faster in 64-Bit mode.
Is there a reason why the 32-Bit setting is the default mode?  Is there any reason not to run in 64-bit mode?  And I am running OSX Lion.

    Hello:
As far as I know, 64 bit mode is standard/default for Safari.  One has to check "launch in 32 bit mode" to alter that behavior.
Is there any reason not to run in 64-bit mode?
IMHO, no.  If some application did not run properly, I suspect that would be obvious.

  • Changing Atomator to 32 bit mode

I am running 10.6.1 in 64 bit mode, and because of a problem with Pixelmator Actions want to invoke Automator as 32 bit.
However when I use Get Info for Automator (or any other application) there is no check-box available for the 32 bit option, or Rosetta, or any other.
Is there somethng I need to install to make the options appear?

Truly, you gain nothing by running in 64-bit mode. So, just start up in 32-bit mode. Still, note that Automator can be forced to use 32-bit mode, but right clicking on the app, getting info, and choosing 32-mode. Here are the pertinent facts for what I said above.
As indicated, there is no advantage to running 64-bit software (or 32-bit software) in 64-bit kernel mode. However, a great deal of 32-bit software will run in 64-bit mode. The disadvantage of 64-bit mode is that all 32-bit software (e.g., Photoshop) will not run in this mode--so if you suddenly decided to run Photoshop, then you'd have to reboot.
From another perspective there is no disadvantage to running all software in 32-bit mode (which is good news for those with 64-bit processors and without the ability to boot into 64-bit mode). The point is that 64-software invokes 64-bit processing even if run in 32-bit kernel mode.
To demonstrate what I say check out the results of this brief test. I have both Geekbench 32-bit and 64-bit. I made five benchmark passes for each of the four possible combinations of Geekbench “bitness” and Sno kernel mode (e.g., 32-bit Geekbench and 64-bit kernel mode is one such combination). Below are the Geekbench averages for each combination.
    (1) 64-bit Geekbench run in 64-bit mode--4,268 avg of 5
    (2) 64-bit Geekbench run in 32-bit mode--4,264 avg of 5
    (3) 32-bit Geekbench run in 64-bit mode--3,910 avg of 5
    (4) 32-bit Geekbench run in 32-bit mode--3,907 avg of 5
Note that there is no significant kernel-mode-related difference in performance for 64-bit Geekbench. Same with 32-bit Geekbench.

  • Safari problem in 64-bit mode

I have a Dreambox decoder and watch TV streamed to my computer from that. When I have Safari in 32-bit mode it's working fine, but when switching to 64-bit modee the new popup window for the stream comes up but blank (no video stream). I could guess some ind of javascript thing, but really don't have a clue.
    Does anybody have a clue?

I did not think of that. It has worked before at another problem, bud sadly not this time I paste the source code of the streaming popup window maybe you can see if it's flash or javascript that it uses.

  • Why no 32 Bit Mode on latest version of Safari 5?

I have a 64 Bit MacPro running latest version of Safari 5 on 10.5.8.  Why do I not have the option to run Safari in 32-Bit mode?  Shouldn't this option be available when I select "Get Info"?  I have seen this option on other 64 Bit Macs.  Is this option only specific to Snow Leopard users?  Any assitance is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi Everyone,
Yes I have read about the open in 32-Bit mode option - I am running latest version of 10.5.8, latest version of Safari (5.0.6 - 5533.22.3).  Still do not have this option to open in 32-bit mode on a 64 Bit Machine?  Doesn't this seem strange?  Computer Specs below.  What is causing this problem?

  • Flash Player Mac 10,3,181,26 not loading in Safari 5.0.5 64-bit mode, any fix?

As the title says, the Flash Player 10,3,181,26 is not not loading in Safari 5.0.5 64-bit mode, I found out after wasting 2 hours installing/uninstalling the plugin and trying anything from repairing disk permissions to installing a fresh Safari app, then it hit me... switch Safari to 32-bit mode and bang!, Flash Player worked just fine.
Even as a long time Flash developer, I refuse to stay in 32-bit mode just to be able to see my work in Safari so please Adobe guys, find a fix for this.

Hi, You are probably aware of the Square version which is 64bit support. Haven't heard when it may be ready for a shipped version. But it's being worked on. Since you are a Developer, I thought maybe you'd be working on it too.
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/square/
My system is not a 64bit, but I can see where one would forget which browser they were using. Something like having more than one computer and forgetting which one has certain info:-)

  • Can Safari run in 32-bit mode on Lion?

I have a Safari plugin that needs to run in 32-bit mode.  This worked in Snow Leopard with Safari 5.1.  I am unable to find out how you would put Safari into 32-bit mode on Lion.  My suspicion is that this is not possible but I do not know for sure.  Can someone shed some light on this?
    Thank you.

Answering my own question, yes it can.  The 32-bit mode wasn't showing up before but now it is.

  • Does safari 5.1 work in 32 bit mode

    HI,
I am using a 32 bit plugin which works fine in safari 5.0.5 when run in 32 bit mode. But I have installed safari 5.1 recently and i launched safari in 32 bit mode by checking the check box from Get Info. But still my plugin doesn't work. Does safari 5.1 work fine in 32 bit mode as safari 5.0.5. I read some were that from Lion Mac OX 10.7 , safari 5.1 will work in 64 bit mode. does that mean support for safari in 32 bit mode completely removed?

    Hi Barry,
    Thank you for the info..
To verify if I am seeing this issue with only my plugin..i tried installing adobe shock wave plugin and tested using the following url- "www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcom" . Animation available in that page is not getting displayed. But i dont get a pop to launch the browser in 32 bit mode. If I launch safari in 64 bit mode itself I get the pop telling the plugin will work fine only in 32 bit mode.
Where as i can see the animation getting played fine in safari 5.0.5 in 32 bit mode and pop msg to launch the browser when tried in 64 bit mode.
Can you please give me some input on what settings you have done to launch safari in 32 bit mode , other than checking the check box "open in 32 bit mode" under safari->getInfo .
    Regards.

I need to change safari to 32 bit to run Tegrity classes on my mac.  The instructions which pop up talk about a mouse with R/L sides I do not have that kind how do I reconfigure

Highlight the Safari icon in your Applications folder. Then hit Command and I on your keyboard; in the resulting "get info" window, check the "open in 32-bit mode"; you may have to click the lock at the bottom and enter your admin password. If so, make sure you click the lock again to lock it when done. That should do it.
