Changing Security Code in Router

The Security Code in my WRT54G that Linksys Tech Support assisted getting me wireless network at home. I believe that WEP was used and Saved. Should not WAP Security be used for better security of my home wireless Network and should I go in and change it manually?
Thanks, Gary

The general guideline is that you should use the highest level of encryption that is supported by all of the wireless devices that you plan to use on your network.  Older devices may only support WEP.  Newer devices generally support WPA or WPA2.  WPA personal and WPA2 personal were designed for home users.  WPA enterprise and WPA2 enterprise were designed for businesses and require special software.  Since your router supports all of these encryption methods, you will be limited only by the computers, printers, etc. that you plan to connect wirelessly.
Encryption levels:
WEP - good
WPA - better
WPA2 - best

  • Changing security code address

I keep getting a message about account security that wants to send me a security by email or text or call. The problem is that neither the email nor the phone number is valid. They are both old. If I try to update them, it asks for the same security
code that would be sent to the invalid addresses. Is there any way to change the email address/phone number?

    Hi,
Seems you are talking about Outlook.com, not the desktop Outlook client, correct?
If this is the case, to update your security info:
    Login to https://account.live.com/
Then select "Change password & more"
On the "Help us protect your account" page, select the last option "I don't have any of this"
Then you will be taken to go through a few simple steps to replace your security info.
If this is not your case, please feel free to post back with more details.
By the way, this is the forum to discuss questions and feedback for Microsoft Office client. Seems your query is directly related to Outlook.com, I would suggest you to post in the forum of Outlook.com, where you can get more experienced responses:

  • How to change security code on my IPone 4

I have an Apple iPhone for that I have forgotten the security code can anyone tell me how to reset my security code without wiping out all my programs any help would be greatly appreciated, I am trying to download Dragon's dictate have the password but no security code, too many passwords and security codes for one person to remember.

If you have a passcode to the screen lock that you've forgotten, restore the iPhone from the computer to which the iPhone is synced. For information and instructions, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
If that will not work, you'll need to put the iPhone into Recovery Mode and then try the Restore again:

  • WRT300, how do I change security codes?

Installed the router, lost the instructions and today I think someone was connecting through my wireless.
How do I change the security settings on the router and the adapters (I have wireless N and Wireless G adapters.)
    Thanks

    a) you can configure a wireless cards usually either using the Windows Zero Configuration Service (WZC) or some software that came with the card (e.g. some Linksys software or some laptop specific software). I would recommend to use Windows but it is up to you.
    b) A wireless card can scan for SSID broadcasts. It is fairly easy to join those networks whatever software you use for the configuration of the wireless card. In windows you basically press a button in the list of SSIDs which the card found.
    c) To join a network with no SSID broadcast you cannot go that way. You have to manually configure the wireless connection, i.e. configure the SSID, wireless encryption settings, passphrase. Once you have configured the card with the correct settings it is able to join the network.
    d) WZC and most other software, too, allow you to define a list of preferred networks. Those networks will automatically be joined if in reach. It depends on the implementation how this is done exactly. I think usually they will simply try the list of preferred networks in the order given, i.e. try to join the network and if it fails try the next. It should not make a difference whether the SSID is broadcast or not. But other implementations could prefer broadcast SSIDs to non-broadcast or similar...
    e) If you use WZC the configuration of Linksys and non Linksys cards is the same. If you use some other software you'll have to find out. Any wireless card which is compatible with the access point should be able to connect.
    f) MAC address filtering is a very weak security mechanism to prevent unauthorized access to a wireless network. Any network card has a unique MAC address from the manufacturer. You can create a list of addresses which may connect to an access point. The problem with this is you have to maintain it and keep it up to date. Also the MAC address is part of any wireless transmission and it is very easy to modify the MAC address in the driver of the wireless card. Thus, you should never rely on MAC address filtering as only security mechanism in an wireless network. In an unencrypted wireless network it is very easy to pick up and fake. Then someone has full access. Protect your wireless network with WPA2 or WPA with a strong pre-shared key. This will really protect the wireless network. I personally would not bother with the MAC filter if I can use WPA.

  • Read this if you need a security code (Sticky)

    Hi Everyone!
I have seen a few posts asking "What is my security code?". So I thought I would make this post. Basically most Nokia phones all use the same security code by default, this is 12345. All phones are set with this code from the factory and will stay using 12345 until it is changed.
If you have changed your security code from 12345 then you would normally need to take your phone into a Nokia Service Point. Here an authorised engineer would reset the code back to its default of 12345. You can find your nearest Nokia Service Point on this page:
    www.nokia.com/repair
Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done other than visit an engineer if you forget the security code , they will need to reset the code to the factory default for you.
    Cheers

There have been some reported cases where operators have changed security codes on some phones.
In these cases, the security code will be shown on the product information label on the box, usually close to the IMEI number. This number is not always marked as a security code.
If your phone was provided to you by your network operator, will not accept the code 12345, and you are certain that you have not changed it, then it is worth checking the product information label on the box before you go for the Care Point option, just in case.Message Edited by michaels on 29-Nov-2007 10:02 PM

Come on micheals There is no need to be an engineer to do that! For Nokia 301 Press "Menu" button. Then select "Settings". Scroll until "Security" and press on it. Finally select "Access codes".
Now select "Change secur. code". Answer "Yes" and you can change your default security code (12345) with another one (mine is 54321 ...)
    Hope it helps.

  • Security Code for Nokia 6500 Classic

Hi, I try to use the code - 12345 - as the security code as listed in my manual, but it just comes up with "code error".
    can anyone help?

A small number of new models, and I know that the 6500 is one, come with no preset security code - you have to enter one the first time you use any feature that requires it.
If you go to the Settings>Security>Access Codes menu and see the option "Create security code", then you still have none; but if you see "Change security code" instead, then somebody has already done the business and unfortunately, it is still a issue that your care point has to solve for you.

  • Security Code on a BB5 Phone

    Hi!
I have a Nokia 5200 phone but i've lost the security code... Can somebody tell me some solution for this problem...???
    Thank U...

For a service centre, check the Nokia web site for your country, under "support".
Before you do that, if you personally have not changed the security code, there is something else that you can check:
I have recently heard that some operators change security codes when they apply SIM-locks. If they do this, the code will appear on the label on the box containing all of the info like the IMEI numbers; though not necessarily shown as a security code. That would be too easy!
In the example I say, the label on the box of an operator-variant Nokia phone had an extra code close to the IMEI number which was an operator-changed security code.Message Edited by mccbleue on 25-Sep-200705:22 PM

  • How can i retrieve my iCloud security code

I have a new iPhone6 with 8.1.2 and i get messages to authorize icloud using the security code from another device.  I don't know that security code. How can i reset it without knowing it?  I tried from an iPAd, tried to reset the security code. I don't know the status or the code. Can someone please help?

    Hey deirdre99,
If you are being prompted for the security code and you do not remember it, take a look at the article to walk you through resetting it. It should be just a matter of going to Settings > iCloud > Keychain > Advanced > Change Security Code, then enter in your iCloud password and create a new one. Let me know if this helps or need further assistance.
