Changing selected button with tabulator
Hi everyone,
I'm relatively new to the OS X and come from Windows. I would never wanna change back, but there is one thing that I miss. In Windows, it was easy to change the selected button without the mouse, only by hitting the tabulator key. I can't imagine that there isn't a similar method for OS X.
I hope my question isn't to hard to understand. Maybe an example:
If i want to turn off my Powerbook, I press the power switch. Then the dialog box pops up, where I can select wether I want to restart, shutdown or log out. There I only want to use my keyboard, not the mouse to select the different buttons. Is that possible?

The reason for being able to use Windows from the keyboard is that early Windows machines didn't ship with mice. When launching into the Windows GUI sometimes the only way to navigate was with the keyboard.
The Mac has always had a mouse and so there was never a big push to make sure all apps could be operated with the keyboard.
In the case of the shutdown dialog, I think you can type the first letter of the button to activate it. For example, hit the power button then type 's' for shutdown, 'r' for restart, etc.

Let's start with Firefox's settings:
(1) You can configure the password manager feature on this tab:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Security
There is a checkbox to enable/disable the feature.
There also is a "Saved Passwords" button to review and remove any passwords you do not want Firefox to keep.
That tab also has a feature to set a Master Password so that no one can use your saved passwords without knowing the Master Password. You may need to exit Firefox in order for Firefox to ask for that again.

(2) Site-specific permissions
If you want to use the password manager for other sites but NOT a particular site, you can configure that in the Permissions Manager.
In a new tab, type or paste '''about:permissions''' in the address bar and press Enter.
After the page loads, use the search box in the upper left corner to narrow down the list to the site you want to configure. Highlight the site on the left side, and on the right side, choose Block under Store Passwords.
(3) Form autocomplete suggestions
Separate from passwords, Firefox remembers entries you've made into forms (in most cases) and lists the matching ones below the form field in a drop-down.
To clear a suggestion, press the down arrow key to highlight it and press the Delete key.

I have an older iPod that no longer shows up in iTunes or appears to be charging. When I press the Menu and Select buttons, the Apple logo appears and then an icon of a battery with an exclamation point. Is it dead for good?
If it is otherwise working, you can change the battery. If you want to do it yourself, you can buy the part on eBay and other online sources. Just make sure you know the type of iPod you have so that you get the right part.

You can also have a repair business do the work.
If it is just the battery, if you do a Reset (using the Menu and Select buttons) while it is connect to your computer, I think it should still be recognized by iTunes. -
Get Info "Change All" button doesn't keep the proper "Open With" app
I have a small but annoying problem that appears in Leopard 10.5.2 (been there since original 10.5.0 install) that I have tried to troubleshoot but can't solve.
The problem is:
-With some of my file types, the wrong "Open With" application is displayed when I view a Get Info for that file type. So to fix this, I open a Get Info window on one of those types of files, and choose the PROPER default application in the "Open With" slot. This works, and then the new proper application name now shows in that slot. So then I click the "Change All" button and apply to all files of that file type. I receive the warning that I will be changing ALL files of that type. I choose "continue" because that is what I desire.
However, once I do that, (click Change All, then Continue button), the old, wrong application name jumps back the Open With slot! So the new, correct application choice doesn't "stick".
Oddly enough, it sort of DOES work, because if I then re-click in the Open With slot, although the old, the wrong application is back listed again, if I look up above that name, then my actual desired application is listed in a list, and it has the word (Default) beside it.
So if I do actually now double click any file of that type, then the proper application DOES launch and open the file.
But why does the Get Info window still display the wrong, non-default application in Open With? And furthermore, this causes all file types of that kind, to display the WRONG icon in any Finder window. They of course display, the icon of what is in the Open With slot list.
I am having this problem only with two file types and apps. (Cubase and Pro Tools---DAW audio apps). All of my Cubase files display a Pro Tools icon, and show as Open With: "Pro Tools" when of course it should display Open With: Cubase. As stated in the Open With list, Cubase is indeed there among other programs and it has the word (Default) beside it. So it sort of works when launching files. But I still cannot get Cubase to "stick" and stay in Open With after Change All!
Can anyone offer any tips on what might cause this and what fix is needed?

WadeWell, I tried rebuilding the Launch services with the command listed but still no luck. After having no luck with that and deleting caches, etc....I also, went to my home (user) directory and in Preferences, I deleted the com.apple.launchservices.plist file. I restarted and checked and still the same result.
Also, I want to emphasize again that the file type I am discussing DOES actually launch with the correct application. (Cubase files in my example).
But it is just annoying that ALL of my Cubase files display the Pro Tools application icon, and in Get Info they are listed to open with Pro Tools. But they actually do launch Cubase if double clicked.
And one other VITAL note....if I open Get Info for one of these files, and change the Open With from Pro Tools to Cubase....then that choice DOES "stick" and retain. (if I "don't" also click Change All)
It's only when I click "Change All" that it DOESN'T stick and the list selection jumps back to Pro Tools. I hope that may offer some clarity.

Change thumbnail of a scene selection button
I would like to know how to change the image displayed in a scene selection button. Mine is just black, as the start of the video is black. I would like to be able to use an image, or a still from the film for this button. How can I do this? Thanks
Hey, I was struggling with the same thing too. In case you haven't figured it out yet and for others who come across this post with the same question, here some steps I figured out that worked for me.
1. Select the thumbnail frame/image button you want to change the image on.
2. Press Command+I on your keyboard or click the little 'i' button on the lower left side of the window to reveal the 'Inspector' window.
3. Make sure you have the movie set to "Still Image" in the 'Inspector' window.
4. Click on your 'Media' button on the lower right hand side of the window.
5. Click your 'Photos' button above (if it's not already selected).
6. Select the photo you want and drag and drop it across the little white square that has "Custom Thumbnail" to the left of it in the Inspector area.

Can't figure out why colors don't totally change when you select type with curser? It looks like it has by looking at it, but when you highlight the area after the old color is still there. It happens with objects to. Driving me NUTZ. Help!
Select the text, and open the Appearance palette (Come on guys, text highlight is irrelevant, it happens to objects too says the OP), and see what's listed there. For a simple text object, there should only be a line item "Type", followed by "Characters", and when double-clicked the Characters line item expands to tell you the stroke and fill color. For a basic object, there should be a fill and/or stroke.
What happens sometimes, is that you end up adding extra strokes/fills to objects or text, and the appearance palette is where that will be noted. Especially when you are dealing with groups, and/or picking up a color with the eyedropper, you may inadvertently be adding a fill or stroke on top of something. You can drag those unwanted thingies from the Appearance palette into its own little trash can. -
How to associate a button with the selection/unselection of a JTable?

Torch Select Button Doesn't Work with Keyboard Out
Hi there, need some help.
Just recently (2 wks) the middle select button has quit working on my torch when I have the keyboard extended. I can still scroll around the screen with it, but when I push it to "select" it does nothing. The button works normally when I have the keyboard put away so this seems like a software problem or setting I have wrong but I can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated as this is driving me crazy! Thanks.Please try if a clean reboot will fix it. Remove the battery while the device is ON, replace it after a few seconds and let it reboot itself. Let us know if this resoves the issue.

PSD Rollover Button with image in front stops button from changing state
I have a wide PSD button that changes state when rolled over. I would like to place a PNG image with transparency in some areas over the top of it so that the rollover button shows through the transparent areas of the PNG.
How can you get it to do the rollover effect when the user mouses over the bit of the button that the image is in front of? Is ther a way of making the PNG 'invisible' to the mouse?
I know I could redesign the button so that it includes the image but I'm trying to keep file sizes and load times to a minimum, I use this button a lot on my website with a different on each, and having that number of individual buttons would result in a bloated, slow-loading website.Hi Abhishek
Thanks for your reply. I was able to achieve the effect I wanted by having the PNG and the PSD Button with the same link and then grouping them. This means I can mouse over the PNG and still get the PSD rollover effect, which is perfect.
However I also have another similar problem. I have some different PSD Rollover Buttons which have some text in front of them (basically it's the button label). On some of these buttons when you roll over the text it prevents the rollover state of the button, and on other buttons the rollover effect occurs as it should, and there doesn't appear to be any consistency about which does what. Grouping or ungrouping doesn't appear to make a difference. Can you help? -
Item(select list) with LOV and Report with link = changed value item

On one page I have:
- Item 'P_name' (select list) with LOV to select name of a person;
- Items 'factory' and Report 'factory'(standard created with 'Form with Report' on the same page).
Situation:
All works fine. I selected first a LOV Item 'P_name' (say 'Jane'). But....
Only when I select a record (to change the values) from the report 'factory' then LOV Item 'P_name' become empty. Report used a link to the same page to fill the report items 'factory' and make also the LOV item empty.
Question:
I have made a process that write the name 'Jane' to table.
I see two possibilities:
- LOV Item value => fill the LOV item with 'Jane' from the table before region. Is this possible?
- Report => What is the buttonname of reportlink? I can use this name in the processes.
Thanks Walter!1) what i meant was for you to test this ridiculously huge LOV outside of htmldb, but it occurred to me last night that you could, in fact, be hitting a limit of ours. after some poking around, i have confirmed that. select list items in htmldb are currently limited to 10,000 rows. this was initially done for performance reasons, but they're now opening up the restriction. if you really need to work with that many rows where the user is allowed to pick from a set of values, consider using a popup item type instead. it'd help your app performance as well (in my test cases, it stank to have to wait for my 10k select list rows to come down to my browser).
2) sorry to not have been more clear about this, but when you set your item's "Source Type" back to "Database Column", you'd have to specify that column in the "Source or value expression" field. also, you can't put a sql query into that "Post Calculation Computation" field. as i said before, "you can take a look at the attribute-level help for that field to see implementation examples."
3) stick with "Always..." for now if you're using our auto-dml process(es)

In iTunes under my device, under the apps tab, Why are all the options shaded out? I cannot make any changes, select any apps or do anything with the apps. I was able to load a few apps and sync but cannot sync anymore to my phone.

There is no Buddy List open.

It would be useful to know which version of iChat this is.
If no account is ticked (iChat Menu > Accounts) or not showing in the Window Menu, plus you cannot determine the Status and you cannot access the Preferences then you need to access your Home Folder/Library/Preferences
As the Library in the Home Holder is Invisible in Lion you will need the Finder's Go Menu > Go to Folder option (you can use it in earlier OS versions if you want)
Type in:-
~/Library/Preferences
Find the file called com.apple.ichat.plist
Drag it to the Trash and Restart iChat.
This will lose all the settings in iChat that you have changed from Defaults but there is no way around this.

In your app, through Shared Components, Templates create a new button template based on a copy of an existing one (pick whichever existing template you prefer, the normal Button may be ok). When the new template is created, edit it. You should see something like the following in the "Template" setting:

There may be other HTML around this, but this is the important part as it is the actual button itself. Change this to:
a href="#" class="t12Button" #BUTTON_ATTRIBUTES#>#LABEL#</a
Now, on your button on the page, change it to use your new button template. In the Button Attributes setting, add in:
onclick="javascript:checkText();"
everything works fine except appearance of button.

How to display Radio buttons with default selection on

I want to display Radio buttons using jsf
i have done it using

so each time on the page load it sets the default value. and you can get selected value by getdefaultval()
