Changing Sender's Display Name?

Hey everyone,
I've been looking around for an answer to this, but I haven't had any luck. I am wanting to change the display name of a sender's email to match that sender's details in my address book. I know that the sender's display name is something that is set by that sender, but is there an Applescript or a plugin that will help me here?!
For example, some of my emails contain sender's names as UPPERCASE, lowercase, as email addresses, or as a nickname that they have set. I want to make Mac Mail recognise the email address of the sender, match that email address with the appropriate person in my address book, then apply to that email the sender's name as it appears in my address book.
As far as I am aware this is not possible in Mac Mail and is a major shortcoming considering that other mail applications are able to do this.
Thanks a lot.

  • Unable to change outgoing email display name on 9930. Only displays email address to clients

I have tried to change my outgoing email display name to my name but when I delete the email address on username field and input my name it says "not a valid email address". Tried on the Blackberry website with my profile and on my handheld device. Why is this so difficult? I can't send emails to clients as on their end it just shows my email address in the from field and not my full name. My email account name on my Blackberry shows the full name I want to display, but it keeps defaulting to my username, which is my email address. I have a 9930 that is two years old. Thanks.

        Hi Cltclt,
Thanks for the details! When did this issue start? Is your Blackberry on a Blackberry Enterprise server from your company? Is this an outlook Microsoft Exchange email account? This may help with changing your settings:

  • How to change web-app display name within EAR file?

  • How to change the Group Display Name in the UME?

    Hello experts,
from time to time due to reorganisation our departments group names change.
So far this was a big deal because it is not possible to change the Display Name of a group created in the Portal´s UME?
So far a new group with the department name has to be created and all group members have to be connected to the new group again. This is not a convenient way..
Is there a way to configure the UME to allow to modify the Display Names of Groups?
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the quick answer.
However my problem is still not solved.
I am using the portal groups also as permission objects for KM. That´s why I do not want to create a new group because the new one will not appear in the ACLs of the KM Objects.
For me it is important to modify the Display Name of an existing Group. The GroupID shall not change. The new Display Name should be updated then automatically in the ACLs of KM Objects in question.
    By exporting the group data:
    [group]
    gid=TeamA
    gdesc=All members of Team A
    user=member1, member2
There is no parameter for changing the Display Name of the group. There is only the Description Parameter.
So far I didn´t find any solution.
    Any other ideas.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Mail arbitrarily changes sender or recipient names!!!

I have realized that Mail 4.0 changes sender and/or recipient names on a lot of my emails under SL: if I check the actual email address it is the correct, intended one, but the associated name is taken randomly from address book!!!
I was wondering if anyone has been experiencing similar issues.

Ok, even more info: My actual Address Book is perfectly fine. But if I hit the "Address" button in Mail.app, thats when I get the corrupt/mismatched list of e-mail addresses. This is strange as I would think this list would pull from the same place the actual Address Book application pulls from. Perhaps there is some sort of cache that can be reset or something? Clearing "Previous Recipients" did not work.

  • Change me skype display name

I really want to know how to change my display name in skype community such that it is different from my Skype ID i.e thompson_lau
    Appreciate for your help

I am a bit confused ... the link TheUberOverLord provided, above, includes this instruction which is accurate:
You can change your display name without creating a new account. This is the name that you see when you’re on Skype, and is displayed in your friends’ contact lists, when you call someone on Skype, and in the message area when you have an IM conversation*. To change your display name:
    Sign in to Skype.
In the menu bar, click Skype > Profile > Edit Your Profile….
At the top of the Profile tab, next to Full name, click your name. An edit box is displayed.
Type the display name you want to use and click the tick icon [Elaine note: also known as a check mark]. Your name is changed.
*Your friends can change the way your name is displayed in their Skype, so the display name you see for yourself isn’t necessarily the one they see for you. You can also change a contact’s name: just right-click on it in your contact list and choose Rename. This only changes the name in your Skype, not theirs.

  • Changing your account display name

In the Mail's pref's there is a field you can fill in to display "full name' I used to display both first and surname, I have changed it to just first name in the pref field but it is still displying both first and second.
How do you over come this, do you have to trash mail pref's or is there a better solution?
    Thanks

I will try this but before I do I think I may know where the problem is. When I type in my email address in the "to" field when composing a new email the display name comes up when the email is being typed, the kind of autofill preceedure it does. Will this be changed when rebuilding mail index?
no. that's set in the previous recipients list. you can access it and delete unneeded entries in Window menu->previous recipients.
there is also your entry in Address book that shows up there. But I'm confused. This is "to" field. I thought your problems were with 'from" field.

  • Email Sender's display name not displaying/resolving on internal emails with POP/IMAP clients

Here's the scenario. I have two 2013 test accounts setup in Outlook as POP/SMTP accounts. I have their name setup as initials in the outlook account (the "Your Name" field).  If I send an email (Through SMTP) to a 2013 Exchange(Outlook
Anywhere) client, their names resolve to their actual Display Name in the GAL which is correct.  Now if I send an email to another 2013 POP/IMAP user, their name shows what is setup in Outlook which is their initials which is not correct.
Now we are currently in the process of a 2007 to 2013 migration.  I do not see this behavior on the Exchange 2007 side with POP/IMAP clients.  If I run the same test setup with a 2007 mailbox as the recipient, the sender's name resolves to
their GAL display name and NOT the name configured in the Outlook Account settings.  It doesn't matter whether the sender is a 2007 or 2013 account.  As long as the recipient is on 2007 it works fine.
This is all tested using authenticated SMTP.  The only difference I can tell is that the 2007 servers resolve the name before delivering it to the inbox where the 2013 servers don't.
There aren't any GAL or Address Book related issues on the 2013 side.  Full exchange clients or OWA work correctly.

    Hi,
It seems to be related to the permission settings on the receive connector. For example, using a Receive Connector for Anonymous Relay. We can refer to this article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996395(v=exchg.141).aspx
And we can use the tool Dsacls to check the permissions:

  • Dynamically change CRS port display name / number

I have a script that performs a call consult transfer out to a shared DN. The calling number presents itself as the CRS port while it is ringing on the DN. If the call goes unanswered, the missed call shows the CRS port details.
What I'd like to do is present the calling number on the DN instead of the CRS port details. I can get the calling number from Get Call Contact Info, but not sure if there is a way to present it during call consult transfer.
    Thanks for any help.

You can use the Call Redirect step to perform an unsupervised transfer; however, the action to take if the destination is busy or RNA would be up to the forwarding rules on it and not CCX.
You cannot modify the display information for an outbound call from within a script. That is set through AXL to UCM when the ports are created.
The only time you even have a shot at setting the display information is with the Place Call step. If you have a specific list of values that you wanted to show as (e.g. specific numbers of your company), you can create separate call control groups for each number and specify the CCG ID in the place call step. This will not work for you though because you can't bridge two separate contacts together, you must use the call redirect or call consult tranfer step.

  • Workflow Issue : Email sender display name not as the same as alert email sender

    Dear Support,
we customized a workflow for sending alert to some user when someone create a new item in the specified document library.
what we already done as below
    1. the email sender address has been setup at "Central Administrator", for example "[email protected]".
    2. team site title is "Customer Center Platform".
    3. we customized a new workflow to trigger system send a email to recipient when someone create a new record.
    what we expected is
Recipient will got a email which send from "[email protected]", the email display name should be "Customer Center Platform [[email protected]]", but in this case, the display name is "[email protected]".
it's been our experience that when we used "Alert Me" function, system will send the email and used "Customer Center Platform [[email protected]]" as email display name.
we want to change workflow email sender display name, what can we do? we are looking forward to your advice, many thanks.

    Dear Hemendra,
    thanks for your reply.
we follow the below guide to setup the workflow step by step
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/publicsector/archive/2007/05/22/document-workflow-how-to-sending-an-email-with-sharepoint-2007-moss.aspx
we used "Send an email" Action, the recipient can receive email, but the email sender's display name is "[email protected]",
we want to change to "Customer Center Platform [[email protected]]".
There is a native "Alert me" function under sharepoint team site, we compared the email sender display name, we found the display name in "Alert me" notification email
is "Customer Center Platform [[email protected]]".
we have no idea what is wrong when we setup the workflow.

  • How to change 'captured' display name?

How can I view, and more importantly edit, a 'captured' display name?
I can view and change the display name I made for the contact entry in the address book, but cannot view, much less edit, the 'captured' display name (I looked at the address book using 'Notepad' and can see the entry of the 'captured' display name).
This causes problems when I start entering the person's name since the 'captured name' often shows up.
    Scenario:
    (1) Person's name = John Doe; Original email address = [email protected]; First message received from original email address had a 'captured'/'sent' display name of 'John Doe'; I created and edited the contact entry / address card and explicitly entered 'John Doe';
    (2) Person now has a new primary email address = [email protected], but wants to keep original email address; With the new, primary email address, I edited the original contact entry / address card and change the display name to 'John Doexx' (keeping the original email address); I created a new contact entry / address card with a display name of 'John Doe' and entered the new primary email address.
(SITUATION) When I create an email message and start to enter the name 'John Doe', several names are listed. In sequence, the consists of the first (i.e. 'original') address card up with the display name of 'John Doe', then the second ('new') address card with the display name of 'John Doe', and then the 'original' address card (again) with the display name of 'John Doexx'.
Bottom line, I need to change the 'captured' display name for the first address card so it matches the display name I entered. Alternatively, TBird should ignore 'captured' display names if a display name is explicitly entered.
P.S. This questions/issue does not involve a concern about the name actually displayed in the message, although that too should be addressed.
    Jim

    Jim
In the '''address book''' click on the '''contat''' then right click choose '''properties''' that page where you in put the mane of the contact and email address there is a check box which when checked '''Always prefer display name over message header''' Try this and let me know if it works

  • How to change other people's display names back to what they put?

So, I looked it up on the forums, and leaving it blank doesn't work.  How do I do this if that doesn't work?

I figured it out. I changed the "bundle display name" under the "Info" tab of the TARGETS and it solved the problem.
