Changing 'Sent Messages' to point to 'Inbox' problems

Hello,
In Messenger Express, go Options->Settings.
When you choose :
Sent Messages
When sending a message place a copy in Inbox
Now, go back to your Inbox.
In my Inbox, in the 'From' column it actually shows the 'To' values of the emails.
Does this happen for everyone? Or is it just us? Is it a known bug?

Yes, it's a known bug. It's fixed in current versions, I believe, meaning 6.1 . . .
The workaround for 5.2 versions is, "don't do that".

  • Change 'Sent' Messages folder?

How do u change the folder in Mail.app?
I'm having a problem across two computers and @me: between my desktop and @me the Sent mail is synchronized, but between my laptop and @me and me desktop it isn't. I checked the folder names for my sent mail and see the following:
Desktop-> 'Name on Server: Sent Messages'
@me-> 'Save Sent Messages to 'Sent'
Laptop-> 'Name on Server: Sent Messages (mac)'
So it seems that 'Sent Messages' = 'Sent'.
The question is how, do I change it on my laptop in Mail.app? In @me->Mail->Prefs-> I can see a list box which will let me adjust between 'Sent' and 'Sent Messages (mac)' but I don't see this same option in Mail.app
    tia.

    You're welcome.
I don't think it's your fault. Different IMAP servers use different naming conventions, and the Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For command is meant to let you tell Mail which folder should be used for what purpose, but you shouldn't have to use it just to prevent your mail from being lost. At the very least, Mail should be able to use its own default Sent Messages folder without you having to do anything. I don't know why Mail fails to do this properly so often.
Worse yet, not only does Mail sometimes fail to use the Sent Messages folder that's already there, but it doesn't even warn you that it's failing to save your sent messages as you've told it to.

Lately, several duplicates of the same previously sent message show up in my InBox; plus previously deleted messages show up in the InBox at the same time.

  • Sent messages showing up in Inbox

Ever since I upgraded to an iPhone 3GS from an original iPhone I've been having a strange thing happen when sending email from my iPhone. I am getting an copy of every email I send show up in the Inbox of the account I used to send the email. For example if I send an email from my MobileMe account to my Gmail account I get a copy of the email I sent in the Sent folder, as I should, and I get a copy in the Inbox of my Gmail account, as I should, but I also get a copy of the same email in the Inbox of my MobileMe account, which I should not. This never happened on my original iPhone.
I have tried deleting the email accounts from my iPhone and syncing them again via iTunes and problem still persists. This is annoying and I would like to find out how to stop it. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Michael

Interesting here for me...I have had the BCC myself off for sometime...yet I'm still getting the copies of everything (sent/etc.) into my inbox. This didn't start immediately when I bought the 3gs. I'm thinking that I turned on BCC me once...but somehow it's "stuck" or something. Ideas? Ditch mail account and start over?

  • Sent messages problem with 6021

I have brand new 6021 - the memory of the phone is by default half empty.
In the settings I have enabled the option of save sent messages.
However, this does not happen. Simply, sent messages are not saved. Up to only one message is saved - on the sim card. After that, the phone simply does not register sent messages.
With the inbox, everything works fine.
I tried reset to factory settings, and other options, but unfortunately nothing is working.
ANy idea how can I activate this function?? And what might be the cause of the problem?
    Thanks in advance,

Those message usually indicates, that your in an area with a weak wifi or cellular data signal.  I speak from experience as this is the only I see that message pop up on my phone.

  • Duplicate Inbox after trying to solve Gmail duplicate sent messages...

.. was trying to solve the problem of duplicate sent messages with Gmail email on the BB Curve 8350. In following instructions from this message board, I instead ended up with duplicate INBOXES. Now, when I unregister and re-register my gmail account on my phone, it creates a new icon. This has resulted in my original problem being multiplied by four. What I mean is, now I have duplicate sent messages in TWO DIFFERENT INBOXES. Originally, my gmail account went to the main Inbox on the phone. I cannot delete the main message system.. HELP!

It seems I found a bug!
I now understand what happens, although don't know the reason. The symptoms are caused by the "Auto-Expunge" feature on Gmail. I disabled it and fooled around the options and this is what I discovered:
    When I set "the message will be archived when disappear from the last visible folder", the message is archived whenever I try to move the sent messages to any other folder than the "Sent" one;
When I set "move the message to trash when disappear from the last visible folder", the message is deleted and moved to trash whenever I try to move it from the "Sent" folder to any other.
In other words, for some awkward reason, Lion's Apple Mail is not handling folder-to-folder operations and Gmail thinks that the messages has been removed from the last visible folder and does with it whatever it was instructed to, which is either to archive or move to trash.
Since by disabling Auto-Expunge Gmail waits for the client to take the action, it seems that Apple Mail is sending the wrong command or sending it on the wrong timing.
I wonder is Apple is aware of this.
    Any suggestions?

  • Getting old 'Sent" messages from server onto my Mac

I am using Mail 2.1.3 on a Mac Mini with OSX 10.4.11.
I have used web mail (earthlink) exclusively for a number of years and now want to switch to a new email provider. I would also like to start using Apple Mail. I need to preserve my old send messages as well as my old inbox messages.
In doing some testing, I can get old inbox messages to come down from the server into Mail on the Mac. However I have no idea how to get the old 'Sent" messages down. Can't find anything about it in Help or elsewhere.
I'm logging into server mail via POP.
Can anyone help put me on the right path? Thanks.

Never mind, I figured it out for myself.
I contacted earthlink and they were useless, as usual. They do not support IMAP and they insisted it was "impossible" to export messages from the sent box or archive them in any way. When I pushed back on that, they told me one way would be to go into each message and forward it to myself (thus having it appear in my inbox.) With thousands of messages, that was not going to happen.
So I poked around and realized that right on the menu is an option to move messages from one box to another. I mass selected all the messages in my sent box and moved them to my inbox, and they all came down to my Mac. Easy as could be.
The messages are now co-mingled all in the inbox, (but still in order by date) but that's okay, because I just need to archive them.
FYI for anyone else having this problem, I am switching to gmail, and I also found out that gmail has an option for pulling all your old messages into their mail service, with many common email providers supported. Whether this pulls in the sent messages or just the inbox, I don't know. But gmail supports IMAP, so if you can get them over there, you should then be able to get them down to your Mac/PC. So that could be another option.

  • Upload old sent messages

I have a very old powerbook with some sent messages I would like to transfer to my iMac running 10.8.3. The OS on the PowerBook is 10.5.8. The Powerbook connects perfectly well to my wi-fi system based in my Time Capsule. The account that the old Powerbook used looks like a POP account I had a long time ago. What do I have to do to transfer these old sent messages to my iMac? Can I use iCloud somehow? I had data transferred when I bought the iMac at the Apple Store. I don't know why these didn't transfer over. If I open up "Accounts" there is an iCloud IMAP listed. Since both the iMac and the PowerBook are both connected to the same network can I use that to transfer the data? The mail in iCloud on the web and in my iMac shows up in the inbox and sent mail of my PowerBook in the main section. The sent mail I am interested in is the part that is stored under "On My Mac."
    Thank you
    Carl

  • Synchronising Sent messages to Outlook

I'd have thought mine is a fairly common question, but I've not managed to find a specific answer on the Forum
I generally access my emails from my PC using Outlook as a client.  My wife now has an I phone, and whilst on holiday I accessed my emails using that.  By leaving all received (and useful!) emails in my Inbox, I was able to synchronise them into the Inbox in Outlook on our return.  My question is, how do I similarly synchronise the emails in my Sent folder from the BTYahoo Mail Server down to the Outlook Sent Folder on my PC
I thought I would be clever and simply move the Sent Messages across to the Inbox and synchronise from there.  However Outlook treats them as a new message and puts today's date on them!  How can I maintain the original date info so that Outlook sorts them into the correct order
As you can probably tell, I am not very computer literate, so please could you keep your responses simple!
    Many thanks

This is a common "issue" with the way Gmail handles conversation style email.
First, I would set your phone up as a IMAP account with Gmail. Its a much better interface with the server now. Directions are here:
    https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77702
    Second, toggle your "recents" setting.
These two things will fix the issue.

  • Changing af:messages

    Hi all,
I'm referring to this thread which was initiated by Chris Muir and followed up by John too. Changing af:messages width and height
The problem is changing the behavior, look and feel of the default af:messages. The above thread concludes with no solution. In one of the Fusion middleware UIX documentation I saw it talks about using different types of message boxes like ListDialog, ListBox and custom message dialog but could not find any implementation detail.
At least can any of the gurus give a workaround how we can suppress popping up the primitive adf popup message so we can use another JSF component like Growl to respond to the FacesMessages.
    Thanks.

    The Jdev version is 11.1.2.0
Skinning the af:messeages will only change the look and feel of the inline message. Also ADF will render the FacesMessage in a popup even when there is no af:messages added to the page. What I need to get hold of is that message popup.
Message popup is, it seems a popup with a dialog control. So skinning the dialog will not help as it will affect all other dialogs.
Is there a way that we could stop adf faces intercepting the FacesMessage so another control will be able to respond to FacesMessage queue.
    Thanks

  • Sent Mail now put in seperate 'Sent Messages' folder - big problems

Never had this problem before. I have my MobileMe account set to sync everything to the server across my 10.5.8 MacBookPro and 3.0.1 iPhone 3GS. Sent Mail has always been put in the standard 'Sent' folder and we've got along fine.
The other day I was setting up my email on a 10.5.7 iMac and when it did the mail sync, it created a new folder called 'Sent Messages (.me)' and preceded to put all the synced up sent messages in this folder instead of the standard 'Sent' folder at the top of the Mail.app application.
Now its a right mess. On the iPhone I can not select 'Sent' in the 'On the Server' list when choosing where to put sent mail. It only offers 'Sent' 'On My iPhone' and shows the 'Sent Messages (.mac)' on the other list.
How do I hit the reset button and get this back to where it was before with 'Sent' folder sync bliss?
Do I need to remove the accounts from all machines and start again?
Could 10.5.7 on the iMac be the culprit?
    Many thanks.

    Maybe not...
I've had the same symptoms suddenly appear while using an IMAP account. Sent mail is no longer saved in the Sent folder -- unlike you, I can't find any of my new Sent mail. (but mail sent from my iPhone does show up) The same flurry of extra IMAP-related folders has also appeared, including the "Sent Messages" folder, just below the "Sent" folder.
So, it doesn't seem to be a .mac issue. I hadn't changed any settings today before I noticed that it started happening.

  • How to copy all my sent messages to inbox

I want to have ALL my messages that I send copied to Inbox folder. I know the option Edit> Account Settings> under "Copies & Folders" option "Place replies in the folder of the message being replied to". I have checked this option. What it does is that it copies my answers in conversations that are already started. So if I just send mail to someone I won't see it in my Inbox but only in the Sent folder, with other words it does not copy my first mail if I'm the one that starts the conversation.
Is there a way I can have all my sent emails in my Inbox folder?
I tried making some filter but I didn't get what combination would do the job.
I figured out that if under options at Edit> Account Settings> Copies & Folders> under "Place a copy in:" i click on "Other" and select there my Inbox folder I will get effect I wanted but I lose my previous sent folder. Even the icon change from stamp to Inbox icon. So that means I can not see just mails I send but only all together with Inbox mails.
I understand that I could use filter to tag all mails I sent and than in quick search just click to see that tag. It would get the similar effect as the Sent folder but I don't see this as a great solution. Is there some smother way to do what I want and keep my Send folder?

Some of us like to advise against storing ''anything ''in the Inbox, let alone adding to it your Sent messages.
The setting you mention will start saving sent messages immediately. It's up to you to move historic messages from the proper Sent folder to wherever you want them. Be aware that if the account uses IMAP, it may take some time for the client (Thunderbird) and the server to get back into step.
I file my messages in different folders according to who I'm corresponding with (family), or the project the messages relate to (at work). So yes I too want replies filed alongside the messages they respond to. I go about this by using an add-on, "Copy Sent To Current" which modifies Thunderbird's storing strategy for sent messages, and can be set to prompt me to choose when sending.
Another approach you may prefer is Conversations, as in gmail, where the messages in a to-and-fro conversation are strung together. However in most business correspondence, it's customary to simply top-post at the top of the incoming message and send the whole thing back, so it becomes less necessary or useful to store all the messages anyway. Each message is in itself a summary of the conversation so far.
In either case, typing the appropriate words into the add-ons window's search box will find suitable add-ons for you.

  • Gmail - sent messages in inbox!

If I send an e-mail (on my Gmail acct. only) either from my iPhone or from Apple Mail, the e-mail I sent arrives as new mail in the inbox of my iPhone... Why are my sent messages being brought in as new mail? Only happens on the iPhone, not in the Mail app.

Sorry - I just realized that this wasn't a solution to YOUR problem, but mine . I hate the fact that when I send email from the iPhone, I can't download my sent email to my PC. When I sent it from GMail.com - it downloads just fine.
Anyway - if anyone gives this a shot, please let me know. Otherwise I can report back later tonight...
I think I have a solution! I'm not at my mac so I
can't try this...but if someone could, please do and
    report back.
I think GMail uses your SMTP server credentials to
decide on not downloading an email you've sent to
yourself (i.e. a sent email from iPhone that you've
    CC'd yourself on).
What if you have two GMail accounts - let's call them
Main and XYZ. In Mail on your mac, set up your Main
email account to use the XYZ credentials for your
SMTP server. Sync your iPhone with mail (preferably
"reset Mail" on your iPhone). Now try sending an
email from your iPhone (CC'ing yourself) and see if
you end up downloading it onto your computer... It
will still come from your Main account, but GMail
will use your XYZ credentials to actually send the
    message on their servers.
Any thoughts? Please post back with results!
    thanks,
    Joe

  • How to not show sent messages in inbox

That's my question. Is there any way to not show my own sent messages in my inbox (rather than sent messages). When I send something, it shows up in the sentbox and my own inbox. Any ideas?
    Thanks,

    Jakerno wrote:
    Would IMAP fix this problem?
yes, it would. but IMAP works very differently from POP so you should understand all the other implications before switching. IMAP keeps everything in sync with the server at all times. so when you delete something in Mail you'll also delete it on the server. and vice versa. it also syncs your other mailboxes like Sent or Draft mailboxes although it's possible to turn that off.
