Changing song order on ipod

I changed the song order in a playlist in itunes, deleted all the songs from the list in the ipod, then put the songs back on the playlist on the ipod. It still puts them back in the wrong order. Is there an easier way to do this?

Never mind, I think it did put them in the right order.

I cannot change song order on playlists (old or new) with highlight and drag. I have turned off shuffle and highlighted the far left column (up/down arrow) of playlist. My mac pro is running 10.5.8  and am using itunes 10.4. I can't drag and drop "music" to "playlist" but can right click and get the option to "add to playlist." No such option for moving song within playlist, only the up and down arrow which moves song from top to bottom list, so if it is #4 from top it will move to #4 from bottom. Stupid I know. I spent over an hour with Apple support, reinstalled itunes, restarted and rebooted computer. Networked with my laptop which is running 10.6.8 and itunes 10.4 and it can drag and drop. The final Apple support solution was to reinstall my operating system. I would prefer not to. Any other ideas?

After looking at other people's posts, I think it's official: there is a bug. Itunes support said I should not have lost the drag/drop tool and I haven't on the laptop that is running itunes 10.4 and operating system 10.6.8. I chatted with someboby who lost both his drag/drop and side scroll and what we have in common is a wacom tablet for a mouse. My laptop is a wireless mouse. I reinstalled whatever updated driver that wacom has out there, shut the system down for night, hoping for magic, but alas none to be had. So if I want to change song order, I network the laptop and desktop, share the screen on the laptop, drag and drop to my heart's content and curse Apple for making me work this hard to find the tool that was once at my fingertips. Apple also let me know that if I want to share songs in household that the hundreds on songs that were purchased for .99 need to be repurchased for another .30. Maybe Apple is holding my drag/drop tool captive til I pay up the money or Maybe the next update will fix the problem, I for one give up for now.

  • Changing song order in playlists - changes no longer show on ipod until sync

I organize my playlists according to how I rate songs; songs with higher ratings go at the top. When the last operating system came out there was a glitch where on the iPod (but not in iTunes) songs were ordered inversely, ie. songs with higher ratings were stuck at the bottom. This was annoying, but one bonus was that when rating songs on the iPod, the position of the song would change automatically. For example, if Song A had two stars but I changed the rating to 3 stars on my iPod, Song A would immediately move and join the other 3-star songs. The changes would then be tranferred to iTunes upon syncing my device.
Now, after having updated iTunes, the playlists are in the correct hierarchical order, but I can't seem to immediately change the order of songs in playlists according to their ratings. Instead, I have to rate the song and sync my device for it to change in iTunes, and then sync my iPod again to have the playlist updated on the iPod itself. This isn't a big deal, but I enjoyed the ability to instantaneously alter my playlists based on the song ratings. Am I missing something? Any advice?

What did you do when you " i recently added iCLOUD service "?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Cannot change song order in most recent playlist iT11

Ok .. I just created a new playlist in order to burn to a cd and I cannot change the song order by dragging songs. A blue border appears around the outside of my playlist when I left click and hold on a song I would like to move and simply won't move. All previous existing playlists, created before the 11 'upgrade', I can still move songs without any issue as before.
What am I missing here? Never seen the blue border activate around a playlist before ....

I Can’t take credit for this, someone (riffraff)posted it long ago, but I’ve had to use it each time iTunes updates.
    1. This will erase your play lists and music list. May want to have them saved somewhere to import from later
    2. Close iTunes
    3. I went to music folder then to iTunes and under this directory
    4. I deleted iTunes Library files, library, extras, and genius
(Actually I just moved them to a new folder on the desktop if things go wrong)
    5. started iTunes.
    6. Got shaken when no songs in the music list
    7. select add folder to library
    8. select your music folder-probably iTunes Music folder
    9. let run
    10. I plugged in my shuffle, copied 5 podcasts to a playlist. Arrange in the order you want. Sync to the iPod. Detach and check. It worked for me.

  • Song Order on iPod won't match Song order in iTunes

I have albums that have the songs set up in the correct order on the iPod display in iTunes, but when I'm using the iPod away from the computer, the order is wrong. I feel like I've tried everything, including deleting the songs from the iPod and retransferring them from iTunes, resetting the iPod, and changing the track numbers, but no luck. Any suggestions?
      Windows XP

OK, in case anybody can use this info, I found the answer to my own problem: The are fields for "Album" and "Album Artist." The songs with an entry for "Album Artist" were listed first on my iPod even though they were not listed first in iTunes. I just had to delete the entries under "Alubum Artist."

  • Song Order on ipod

i've read a lot of posts about trying to get your songs in abc order, but none of them help. when i drag the song into the ipod playlist it drops the song to the bottom of the list i've tried clicking the name tab at the top but nothing. the only sure way to get the newly added songs in abc order is to completly remove the playlist from the ipod click the name tab in the playlist then put the playlist back into the ipod but its getting annoying waiting 10-15 minutes while all the songs get but back into the ipod. anyone know of a quick way to get them in abc order?

  • How do i change song order

    Hello,
I have downloaded songs from different albums and have re-named the album to put them into a compilation.
The only problem is they are not in the order i want them.
How do i change the order of the songs?
    Thanks

find the folder with the songs in, then rename the songs with the number for the order you want
e.g. "Track Name" change to 1 "Track Name"
"Track Name" change to 2 "Track Name"
    etc...
    then update your library

  • Can't change songs on new ipod in iTunes

I just went from a first gen iPod to a 5th gen, and I notice that I used to be able to edit the pod's playlist in itunes. Now, when I try to go directly to the new ipod's playlist, everything's greyed out. It's there, but greyed out. What's this all about? I want to have special playlists on my iPod. Thanks!

"when I try to go directly to the new ipod's playlist, everything's greyed out. It's there, but greyed out"
Grey text when you look at the content and a lock symbol at the bottom of the screen just indicates that the iPod is set to update automatically (sync). If you want to access the iPod directly, delete songs from the iPod, drag songs from iTunes etc. you need to change the update setting to "manually manage songs and videos. If you want to manage it manually then connect your iPod and click on the iPod icon in the iTunes source list to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. In the Summary tab check the box "manually manage music and videos" and click Apply:
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Something to remember about using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on the desktop and check this link for alternative methods:: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Can't change song order in playlists

Several weeks ago iTunes stopped letting me change the order of songs in playlists. When I try to drag and drop them to change up the order the track just snaps back into place.
I've gone over my settings several times trying to see if there's anything that got changed that might be causing this but nothing seems out of the ordinary.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Make sure neither Shuffle or Repeat are switched on in the playlist, that can prevent you reordering tracks. You'll find the commands for these in the Controls menu or the two central buttons below the Source list. Also of course make sure you click on the number column (extreme left) of your play list to highlight it.

  • How to Change Song Order in User-Created Playlist

I have several playlists that I've created by just adding a bunch of songs to. I then would like to go into those playlists and change the order that the songs are listed in so that they play in that new order (they are initially listed in the same order that I added them to that playlist - i.e. the 1st song added is the 1st song in the playlist, then 2nd song aded is listed as the 2nd track, etc.), but I can't figure out an easy way to do that. I cannot drag a song up; if I want to move it up, I have to drag every song above it down (and then they get all out of order!). If I try to drag a song up, it goes to the very bottom of the playlist when I release the mouse button!
How can I change the order of songs that I've added to a playlist? There's got to be an easier way!
    Thank you,
    Dennis

I already had the arrow pointing up in the track order header column, but your suggestion gave me an idea - I went up to "View" and then clicked on "Hide artwork column". That did the trick - I can now drag songs up and down in my playlists to change their order to my heart's content!
    Thank you!
    Dennis

  • Why can't I change song order?

I have a playlist and I suddenly find I can't change the song order by dragging a song up or down the list. What's the matter? (iTunes 11.0.1)

I found that by selecting the left column (order numbers) I could drag songs into new positions.

  • Change Song Order in Library

First let me start by saying this is my first question. I woudl like to know how I cn change the order of a track number in the Library section of iTunes? I have imported several CDs, I had issues with one of them where it would not import the song due to the CD being scratched, I purchased the additonal required songs from iTune, however the order is not the original for example CD had 12 songs, I was able to import 8 songs, 1, 4,5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, I went and purchased tracks 2, 3, 6 and 7. I have the track view enable so I can look at what track the songs are, when I do the songs show up 1, , 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 2, 3, 6, and 7. I would like to change the order to be the same as the CD. i realize if I make a playlist I can do this and if I burn a CD I can also do this, I want to know how to do this in the actual iTunes Library.
    Thanks

I'm having the same problem but it's a compilation album, so the artist name is different in each track, but the album is the same and the track order is clearly listed, so why does iTunes change the order of the tracks?????? Whether I check "compilation" or don't check compilation it's the same result, the song order changes in the playlist. Any thoughts? Thanks.

  • Change Song Order

This seems like a newbie question but...
I downloaded an album from eMusic. However, when viewed by 'Name' the tracks are not in the correct order in the Content Pane. I tried to drag a track to the correct position but it 'springs' back and won't move. On the other hand, they are in the correct order when sorted by 'Artist'. Short of creating a playlist, how does one change song/track order? Or, should I just use 'Artist' order and be happy?
Running iTunes 7. Thx for any help!

However, when viewed by 'Name' the tracks are not in the correct order
Of course not. They are sorted on the column you have selected to sort on.
Sort on Album, Track or *Album by Artist* columns to sort by Track #.
Short of creating a playlist, how does one change song/track order?
Change the fields or select a different column to sort on. However, you cannot drag songs up/down unless it is playlist and you have selected the very first column.
Or, should I just use 'Artist' order and be happy?
When you sort on Artist, they are in track # order. Isn't that what you want?

  • Changing song order in playlist

There's one playlist where I tried to drag the songs to change the order but it won't let me. All the other playlists it lets me. any ideas?

If you are making changes in the to the songs directly in the folders then iTunes may no longer recognise them (in fact in all probability no longer knows what the file is anymore). If you want to change details (titles, albums, etc.) you should do that within iTunes itself by right clicking on a song and choosing Get Info. Also moving files directly in a folder will cause iTunes to lose track of the location, I suspect the root of your problems is the changes you've made.

  • Changing Song Ratings On iPod

    Hi.
Question A: I'm wondering if I change a rating on my iPod does it reflect the change in iTunes once after I sync again?
Question B: If a 4-Star rating exists for a song already and while listening to the song on my iPod I want to change the rating to 5-Stars will this also be updated in iTunes, reflecting the 5-Star rating change?

Good to hear from you as well. The syncing process is almost symmetrical, minus a few minor details such as play counts, last play time and such, that do not sync to the iPod. There are several other settings and data about songs that do not sync over as well. However, for the most part, you could say the major elements of a song and its data are symmetrical between iTunes and the iPod.
    Hope this helps.
I couldn't help setting my location to Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. It rocks. As to how I reached this status level so quick, I guess you could say I spend a good deal of time on here, reading all kinds of posts, whether they are answered or not. I have learned a great deal on here the few months I have been using it. This place rocks.
