Changing sound preferences doesn't work until I restart?

So the new mail sound for a particular mail account, I want to change. I change it to "off" (no sound) and when I get an email it still makes the sound it used to. If I restart the phone then it works correctly and I won't hear a sound when I get a new email. Is this how it should work? Changing a setting in preferences doesn't work till you restart the phone?

Well, the 'chirping' certainly isn't a hard drive! I don't know what it could be... the only thing that I can suggest is that you take your computer to your local Apple Store and have them diagnose the problem. The diagnosis should be free as will an estimate for repair (if you're out of warranty).
Something's obviously not right but as the only moving parts in the retina models are the fans, you may have a problems with the fans. As to the problems with the keyboard, let the Apple techs figure that one out.
Good luck,

  • Addition doesn't work until both inputs are initialized?

I'm using a Logitech web camera to take pictures. I want to operate in either of two modes:
    1) Overwrite - each picture taken replaces the previous one
    2) Accumulate - each picture taken is added to the previous one (pixel by pixel)
The attached .doc shows a simplified version of the VI
It's working fine except for one thing ... I can't start out in "accumulate" mode. I have to take one picture in "overwrite" mode before "accumulate" mode will begin to work. If I try to begin in "accumulate" mode, the display just sits there blank regardless of how many pictures I take, until I take one in "overwrite" mode.
Does this must mean that the addition function doesn't work until both inputs are initialized? If I initialized the shift register to an array of zeros would that fix it? I tried it and it didn't seem to help, but maybe I need to make sure the initialization array is the same size as the picture array?
    Thanks

Look up the rules for addition and you will find that when you add two arrays, you can only add elements that exist(in both arrays). Otherwise, there is nothing to add. If your shift register is uninitialized, then that's your problem.
    Two solutions:
1... If you know the size ahead of time, then initialize an array of that size with zeroes, and wire that to the outside of your shift reg.
2... You could detect I = 0, and replace the array with your new data on the 0th iteration, regardless of the mode switch. In other words do not perform an ADD if there's nothing there yet.
Either one of these is preferable to using the data from an uninitialized Shift reg. The data might not exist, or it might be leftover from your last run an hour ago.

  • HP updated my BIOS and now the sound system doesn't work on Dv76012Tx.

HP Care / Support Assistant requested to update my BIOS, which I did.  Computer restarted a couple of times then I found my sound system doesn't work.  My computer is Dv7-6012Tx and it is just a week old.  I now get no sound, and it had been working beautifully.
Please reset my BIOS back to how it was.

Had the same problem as of about 30 minutes ago.  New BIOS update, sound doesn't work.  Drivers all read as up-to-date.  What the hell?

  • HT1414 my iPad doesn´t work, I already restarted it, the screen keeps turning on and off, and I can´t see anything o work on it, what else should I do?

my iPad doesn´t work, I already restarted it, the screen keeps turning on and off, and I can´t see anything or work on it, what else should I do?

First lets assume you battery is completely or almost completely drained.
Plug the iPad into the charger that came with it and plug that into a known good wall outlet. Leave it alone for at least an hour. Then, while it is still plugged in reset the iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. If the iPad starts and seems to be ok let it continue to Harte until the battery is fully charged.
If this doesn't solve the problem I suggest having an Apple technician take a look at your iPad. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • When I try to delete message threads on my iPhone 5, the message app won't work until I restart my phone. Once it restarts, the message threads that I tried to delete are still there. Any advice?

When I try to delete message threads on my iPhone 5, the message app won't work until I restart my phone. Once it restarts, the message threads that I tried to delete are still there. Any advice?

I recently spoke to someone from Apple support, and here's what I gathered:
"Older" phones (read: anything iPhone 4s or older?) sometimes have trouble keeping up with the processing demands of the newest software. When deleting threads with a lot of media (photos, videos, etc), it can take a lot of processing to successfully delete. What this support tech suggested was picking some of the bigger threads at night before you go to bed, deleting them, and then leaving the phone alone-- and plugged in-- overnight to give it enough time to delete everything. He suggested not even pressing the lock button; just leave it to process (though I imagine the screen will lock on its own anyway).
Not sure if it works yet since I just spoke to him, but it's the closest thing I've got to a solution!

  • Sound Preferences don't work

I recently had my hard drive replaced by Apple Care due to a crash. I received my MAC and it's running MAC OS 10.4.9.
All of my sound alerts are not happening. I tried resetting my sound preferences and it doesn't work. I ran Disk Utility and repaired permissions.
Does anyone know of any other things I should try to fix this?
    Thank you.

It corrected itself when i reinstalled the operating system

  • Preferences doesn't work

I have OS X v.10.6.8 When I select preferences it doesn't work. If I select it again, Safari crashes. It's been reported several times. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1

MIght be third party Safari plugins or extensions ..
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Security tab.
Deselect:  Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
If it's not a plug-in issue, select the Extensions tab. If there are any extensions installed, turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.  If that made a difference, uninstall one at a time, quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the culprit.
If it's not a plugin or extension issue, open the Finder.
From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • Sound stops working until i restart.

I currently have the satellite a505-s6965. I bought it back in 2009 but last year my hard drive crashed so I replaced it with a 1tb SSdrive and upgraded to windows 7 in the process. I havent had any other issues until maybe about 2-3 weeks ago when i noticed after so long my sound stops working. I can't play videos, music or anything. Itunes wont even show the song playing at all.  I have done everything, my drivers are all up to date, my bios is updated. I have tried headphones and none of that changes anything.
However...if I hit the volume up button on the laptop, it will beep through both the speakers and headphones but no other sounds will play. But if I restart it will all go back to working forr so long. Sometimes when the sound works i may sound a little cracked or weird.
Any suggestions on a fix for this issue?

Hi. I see that this question has gone unresolved since Oct. I'm having a similar problem. Also using FCP 7.
I have a video, recorded on a Canon Vixia HV30. I captured the video and found that the sound was recorded too high. There was an audio recorder, Zoom H4, recording at the same time, and it had a much better level, so I imported the .wav file to my project. I spent about 2 hrs cutting the video and the audio, syncing the audio to the video and making cuts between the songs that were played to edit out the between song banter and other stuff.
All seemed to be working fine, and then at some point, I clicked the "L" key to move forward, and there was a loud pop, and the sound went away. Whenever I press the start key, or one of the J, K, L keys, it click/pops and no sound is available.
    Any help with that?

  • Sound editing doesn't work anymore

Just got myself a second hand computer with iMovie 11 vs. 9.0.9. I've been working with iMovie on my old mac for years and never experienced a problem with the audio. When I import audio now, I am able to hear it but when I change volume settings in the audio settings, it doesn't work f.i. it doesn't lower the volume or doesn't fade in or out; it stays at 100%. I tried importing mp3's or aiff's but both don't work. Also I tried both dragging them in or importing them from iTunes. When I try to export the movie, it says that the audio isn't there. Anyone else experienced this problem and has a workaround? I have a project for my work that is due and I really need some help here. Any suggestions are much appreciated.
    thanks

    Hi
First thing I would do is to
    - Create a new User Account
    - Log into this
    - Re-try
Just to pin point where the problem arises.
I only use .aiff audio - Never .mp3 or other strange audio format. All converted by using Audacity ( free from Internet ) as they give me all kind of strange problems. Now I have near to zero problems with my audio.

  • Sound Check doesn't work

I just switched from Mini to Nano and now when I playback songs the volume is all over the board. One song is on 5 one is on 10 and back and forth... I have tried several times to check and re-check the Sound Check feature. Am I doing someting wrong? If the song volume was close to each other it would be fine but it is WAY OFF. Thanks for the help.

You need to check that option at iTunes as well. Did you remember to do that?
If it doesn't work, try send Apple feedback about your iPod. Be polite and clear and if this is a general problem they will correct it on the next software updater.
    Hope this helps

  • Sound check doesn't work with shuffle

I can't get the sound check to work on my shuffle. I enabled it in iTunes, and it works fine for my music when playing with iTunes, but when I place the music on my shuffle it doesn't work, even though I have soundcheck enabled in the ipod settings.
I even 'restored' the shuffle and reloaded all my songs, and the sound check still didn't work. Help!

Sound check is basically useless. Hasn't worked effectively on any model I've purchased. However, as others have pointed out, you can adjust the volume of a song so that your playlists don't cause public embarrassment. Simply do a control "i" on a particular song. In the "info" tab, you can increase or decrease the volume of a particular tune. However, if you make the adjustment, be sure to adjust all of the tune from that album. Otherwise, when you play the album, the song you tweaked will have a different volume from the rest of tunes on the album. It ain't a great fix... but it's better than what the programmers have done with sound check.

  • HP Probook 4520s: sound card doesn't work (no sound, red mute button)

    Нello!
I have an issue with my HP Probook 4520s. Its internal speakers  and microphone doesn't work. I've tried to install and reinstall drivers from here, tried to rollback driver to older version but I always have the same result: installed the IDT sound codec, and after a restart, the mute button  turned red and I cannot switch it.
    Soundcard device ID: HDAUDIO\FUNK_01&VEN_111&DEV_7605
    OS: Windows 7 Professional x86
    How can I fix it?

Hi, just registered to post my solution. I got HP ProBook 4330s in for repair. Problem: some sticky liquid spilled all over and no sound. Also discovered that no microphone as well, but webcam did work just fine.
    What I tried:
    1) Installed fresh Win 7 Ultimate 32-bit and all official drivers (audio driver did not want to install), still no sound. Sound icon shows red cross. Message: No audio output device installed.
    1) Installed the newest version of BIOS, in my case F.40, still no sound.
    2) Pluged in headphones, still no sound.
    3) Took apart, unpluged and firmly inserted every possbile cable, still no sound.
    4) Found in BIOS everything that relates to Audio. Made sure Audio device is enable, still no sound.
    5) Install XP and installed XP sound driver, still no sound. In fact, that driver did not install correctly, showed some kind of error.
What did work, in consecutive order:
    1) Took apart again and took out the coin battery that retains the BIOS data, date, clock etc.
    2) Put everything back together, switched on, entered the correct date in BIOS settings, and started Win 7 Ultimate. Still no sound. But I noticed that Win 7 Ultimate has found some devices and was installing drivers for it. Though did not check exactly which ones.
    3) If I could not get the sound working I was determined to buy some speakers with USB connection. Then, I remembered that I already had a set of speakers for another laptop. These speakers had USB connection to draw power from and a grean standard headphone connection/plug to draw audio signal. I plugged in these speakers into HP 4330s and the sound started coming from these external speakers. The sound icon next to the clock in bottom right corner switched to normal mode and I could control volume with my mouse. Then I unpluged external USB speakers and the sound started coming from the HP's built in speakers.
Checked with Device Manager that correct sound drivers are installed and microhpone appeared to be installed as well. Though did not check with Skype if microhpone was working.
I was soooo happy!!! I struggled with this problem for three long days, searched many forums (none gave solution), tried everything with drivers, took apart the laptop some three or four times (now I learned to do it with my eyes closed, so to speak).
I started to think that taking out the BIOS/date coin battery did the trick. There must be some glitch in BIOS to motherboard connection in these HP ProBook laptops, and all BIOS settings need to be reset.
I'll be happy if this helps someone.
