Changing standard.joboptions file?

Is there a way to change the settings in the standard.joboptions file?
We are using Acrobat 9 Standard on Windows XP and Windows 7.  We need to change the default compatibility from Acrobat 6 to Acrobat 5, but it won't let us save it in the standard.joboptions, and if we try to save it with a different name it won't let us save it in the default folder, only in the user's folders.  And once we do have a different file saved, it doesn't show up on the list so that we can tell Distiller to use it as the default.
What are we missing?

Slightly stale thread, but for lurkers in the future who stumble onto this discussion from Google like I just did...
In Vista or Win 7, modifying a printer (including the PDF printer) requires elevation. Right-click Acrobat Distiller on the Start Menu and click Run As Administrator. You'll be able to add the *.JobOptions file then.
With UAC, you still have to do this, even if you're running under an admin account. This confirms that you, and not malware, are modifying the printer software.
