Changing Sync-to Machine?

When I got my ipad I set it up to Sync apps to my office PC and all else to my MacPro at home. Now when I try to sync in either location it threatens me with warnings I don't fully understand about erasing any apps not in the computer's library. If I sync everything at home will I lose all the apps that were once synced at the office? What about apps I downloaded directly to the ipad from the App Store? How can I change the sync location without losing all my apps?

Here's a help article about saving your data from the phone to a new computer, which would be the MacBookPro in your case. How to back up your data and set up as a new device
The short version to sync to a new iTunes library:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing. Transfer your purchases by right clicking again and choosing "transfer purchases" .
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your MacBookPro, to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.

How to back up and restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
How to download apps for free again: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
Photos can only be synced to the phone using iTunes, so you'll have to make the Aperture library available for your MacBookPro as well, you'll need to copy the whole Aperture library to the MBP to be able to sync the photos and videos to your phone.
You can back up your iTunes library and restore it again on the MBP or use an external HD to transfer the content to the new iTunes. iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Hyper-V could not replicate changes for virtual machine 'machinename': The connection with the server was terminated abnormally (0x00002EFE).

I have a 3 node cluster that has replica setup to replicate to another cluster off-site.
Suddenly one of the servers is not replicating with the error:
Hyper-V could not replicate changes for virtual machine 'machinename': The connection with the server was terminated abnormally (0x00002EFE). (Virtual Machine ID CC0FD4CC-F9B7-4C68-ABE8-B7D52A87899F)
All other servers are replicating fine so there cannot be a permissions or connectivity issue between the 2 clusters.
This server has 2TB of data so I'd rather not have to start the replication again.
    Does anyone have any pointers?
    Thanks.

    Hi drensta,
Based on my knowledge , "hyper-v replica broker " is needed for failover cluster replica .

  • How to change sync settings in iTunes

How do you change sync settings in iTunes? I want to be able to connect my iPhone to iTunes and not have my iPhone automatically sync information to/from my computer and iPhone.

At least taking a glance through the iPhone user guide may be a good idea for you especially if you don't know how to change your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. With your iPhone connected to iTunes, select your iPhone under Devices in the iTunes source list. The various tabs for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes will be available in the main iTunes window.

  • Meta Data Not Syncing Across Machines

Some changes made on one computer are not being propagated to other machines. Has anyone experienced this? The information appears to have been propagated to the iTunes Match servers as I can see it on my iPhone but it isn't making it to my other machines.

Apparently it helps immensely to have all computers connected to the internet when making changes to meta data. I had made some changes to my catalog at work today. When I came home they were not getting propagated to my home machine. When I remotely logged into my computer at work some of the changes I had made there were undone on the work machine. When I then made changes with both machines connected to the internet the changes propagated immediately. This seems like a pretty serious design flaw for an "in the cloud" system.

  • Changing Sync options on Windows XP machine

When I first synced my iPhone, Windows XP popped up a wizard that asked what program I wanted to associate with the photos. I ignored it the first few times and then mistakenly hit Microsoft Word once. So, when I sync my phone it dumps all my pictures into a blank Word doc. How do I dis-associate this phone with Word?
    Thanks

    Hi,
This action is controlled by the Scanners and Camera wizard. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1857 provides more information about the wizard and how it relates to the iPhone, it also tells how to make changes to the wizard.

  • I upgraded itunes today and now some of my music from cd's is in grey and I cannot open it on. I changed sync to AAC and went in and selected genres, artists, albums that I wanted to download.  I want to listen to my music.  Can anyone help me?? Please! .

I downloaded latest version of iTunes to my computer today and now some of my music - a lot - is showing up in grey after syncing to my iPhone 5 and I cannot open it.  All music is from cd's purchased and before download was accessible.  I went to SYNC and changed to AAC and reselected genres, artists, albums and synced again without success.  Can anyone help? Please.  I am so frustrated and have wasted all day on this.  I want my music back!!!

When you upgraded, itunes should have put a copy of the itunes library database in a folder named *Previous iTunes Libraries* . If you upgraded itunes today it will show as
    iTunes Library 2010-02-28.itl
Use these directions to get it back
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1967
Since I am not sure of your setup, look for the "Previous" folder on both your C: and F: drives.

  • How do I change sync from automatic to manual

Where do I go in itunes to remove the automatic sync process (whenever I connect my iphone) and do a manual sync?  I dumped contacts from old Palm system & the contacts in Google are showing duplicates between 4 to 8 times for each contact.

Same thing happened to me. I ended up deleting all contacts again and overwriting them with the desktop version. No matter how many times I marked manual syncing, every time I reconnect the iphone it does an unwanted automatic sync. In fact it completely messed and mixed up all entries in my categories. Luckily I didn't trust syncing in the first place (been a burnt child by apple syncing) and had exported the contacts before I did the first sync. Every other simple sync utility also lets you decide to sync just one way, not so apple. I have given up on syncing altogether, this is only the tip of the iceberg of all the problems I have run into, trying to sync anything with iTunes. The upcoming cloud syncing capability may change that, hopefully for the better (but I am not holding my breath). Apple finally caught on to the fact that their customers refused to pay for a service (mobileme) that could be had for free anywhere else! My conclusion: Beneath the shiny exterior, and all the hollywood show like announcements of their CEO lies a rat infested engine. You better don't open the hood, otherwise you'll see the rats gnawing away on the electric system, bringing it down. Shame on you apple! Oh, i have  been on a Mac since 1993, and seen this company go through very unwelcome changes especially lately. IMHO their developers should be feathered and tarred and driven out of town for wasting their customer's prescious time and throwing sand in our eyes!

  • Changing sync computer with iphone

Have an 'old' iPhone, but just bought a new computer. Transferred all the relevant files to the new computer, and passed the old one off to my wife. I've just bought a new app for my iPhone and tried to connect to the new computer. iTunes doesn't 'see' the iPhone (iPhoto keeps opening up). I've got no music on my iPhone but lots of apps. How do I change the sync computer without losing all the apps on my iPhone?

YOU'LL SEE AN IPHONE ICON MORE THAN LIKELY. CLICK ON IT AND BACK UP YOUR PHONE THEN CLICK RESTORE FROM BACKUP. THAT SHOULD DO IT!

  • Question re. changing sync options...

    Hi!
After I first got my ipod, whenever I'd plug it in after downloading or updating an app directly onto the touch, a dialogue window would pop up notifying me that things had been altered on my ipod and asking me whether or not I'd like to transfer the information from my ipod onto my computer. At one point, I clicked the "don't show this dialogue window again" check-box, assuming that whatever I'd downloaded or updated on the touch would just be synced to my computer automatically. Now, however, it seems that itunes won't recognize any downloads or updates on my ipod. So, for example, I bought an app and downloaded it directly onto my ipod touch, but, when I plug the ipod into my computer, iTunes doesn't transfer the app to its library.
So, does anyone have any ideas regarding how I can change the syncing options between my ipod and itunes on my computer so that my computer will recognize changes on my ipod and transfer them to the itunes library?
    Thanks!

I don`t know exactly how to set syncing options, but you can just Reset iPod Warnings ... or try transferring purchases from iPod under the "File" button.

  • Syncing three machines in different locations.

Sorry to post this in BOTH Leopard AND Time Machine, but I'm not sure what the required expertise would be, so apologies.
I have an iMac at home using Airport 24/7 broadband. and a 400gb exterior hard drive (which I currently use with Time Machine)
Exactly the same at work on a LAN
A MacBookPro for when I travel.
and I'm buying a small macbook for my secretary and a time capsule to replace airport (so I can put airport in my office at work)
    Everything runs Leopard.
How can I ensure that every machine has exactly the same files and information on everyday. I can use Chronosync if my laptop and imac are in the same room, or Timbuktoo over the net, but thats sort of retroactive after I have found out I forgot to sync or worked on the file on a different mac. Is their an automatic way using .mac or the like to sync all the machines at once automatically or manually.
Thanks in advance for your efforts on this site.

I would go for a simple shell script using the built-in rsync tool. Ask in the Unix forum for help setting it up.

  • Should I move to Mavericks and do a TM backup before changing my old machine?

    Hi all,
I have a pretty old MBP which has suffered a big fall and is now on its last legs (crashing 5 times a day, freezes, wifi drops out, screen unhinged, battery bad...). Current spec is:
    15" MBP, late 2008
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)
I'm going to hopefully replace it for a new MBP shortly, but I wondered if I should move to OS Mavericks first and do a new Time Machine backup so I can then load up my current hard drive on my new machine. Is that a good idea? I guess there'll be some applications that don't work on the new machine, but that's okay.
I had to use a Time Machine backup last year when my hard drive went down and it was all good except that I had lost about 7 months worth of photos in iPhoto which for some reason Time Machine hadn't backed up. I never got to the bottom of it, and wondered if it was a permissions thing or something, like perhaps something to do with an Apple ID change. But it saved everything else as far as I remember, so I really don't know what happened there. Anyway, I'm hoping that doesn't happen again here.
Would just appreciate any views on whether a move to Mavericks and then a Time Machine backup is a good idea before my current machine heads to the trash... Thanks!
    Jamie

I would say NO.  If the machine has problems then updating it to Mavericks will likely result in even more problems.  Have a good backup and even better have both a TM backup and a clone (made using something like Super Duper or Carbon Copy Cloner).  A good TM backup is all you really need but I would definitely not install a new OS on a failing machine.

  • ITunes 10.6 freezes when changing sync settings

Update to iTunes 10.6 on Windows 7 computer today.  Now when I try to change my sync settings, and hit "apply" - iTunes freezes and the sync does not complete.  I have already tried to factory reset the iPod Nano, and tried to totally uninstall and reinstall iTunes.  Any other suggestions?

Uninstall/Reinstall did not work. Same issue with freezing as soon as it's launched.
Just to confirm, this is 10.6.3 64-bit Windows build.
