Changing System Icons

In reference to:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/icons_screensavers/margin.html
It states that the only requirements are either 10.4 or 10.5. I was under the impression that you need a 3rd party app to change the system icons. Is there a way to do it without an extra app?

It IS possible to change those icons by hand but it's not exactly pleasant.
Personally I would recommend a 3rd party app like [Candybar|http://www.panic.com/candybar>.
Most system icons live in /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle.
Right click on it and choose "show package contens". navigate to Contents/Resources
That's the folder for most system icons. You can replace them by yours if you really want to do it by hand. I would back up the entire Contents/Resources folder before doing that.

  • Change System Icons (How to...)

I use Leo's Icon Archive a lot and I found a nice set to update my OSX with, but I don't know how.
the Blend icon set is this one and all icons come as ICNS file extension, if I copy and replace the icon of my Hard drive using copy paste in the Get Info widown I get this:
just a ICNS file icon instead the actual content of the file.
Can anyone help me on how to change the system icons?
    Thank you in advanced.

    that worked fine
but it should be a place to change all the icons, instead one by one, to make them the default icons of the system instead of the original ones, just like there is under Microsoft Windows.
ohh well, at least I can spend a while changing my icons to this Blend set.
    Thanks joshz

  • Changing Finder Icon

How does one change the dock's Finder icon in Tiger? I replaced the "Finder.icns" in the Finder file, but do I have to do something about the "Finder.png" in the Dock folder, too? It was a lot easier in Panther...

  • Source system icons changes when connecting SAP BW to mySAP ERP 2004

    Hi,
Just an Interesting observation in relation to the creation of source systems in SAP BW to SAP Web AS 6.40 based systems (mySAP ERP 2004, mySAP SRM, etc).
I thought it would be interesting to share!
The behavior is logical but can be a surprise for a BW administrator who is not aware of the new internal SAP BW systems within mySAP ERP 2004.
    Scenario:
The customer was connecting a stand-alone BW system to two new systems with latest and greatest mySAP ERP 2004 (ECC 5.00) and mySAP SRM.
    Observation:
In the past the SAP R/3 source system would be created with a "SAP R/3 icon" indicating a SAP Source system.
<b>As of mySAP ERP 2004, the source systems will be created in the SAP BW standalone system with the "SAP BW System icon".</b>
Note: This is also the same behavior for new releases of mySAP SRM, and other SAP applications that are <u>based on SAP Web AS 6.40 or greater</u>
    Why?:
The standalone SAP BW system is connecting to a system that contains an internal SAP BW system. The standalone SAP BW system determines that it is possible to extract <u>both</u> from the internal BW System <b>and</b> from the Plug-in extractors. It simply denotes that this source system is a SAP BW system and uses the BW Source system icon. (Remember SAP BW is client independent*!).
Note: This behavior will still occur even if you do not use the internal SAP BW system within mySAP ERP! It is there whether you use it or not.
Second Note: You can still use the ERP Content extractors from the mySAP ERP Source System as you did in prior releases.
    Another related observation:
I would expect that this case will probably be true even if you only use the internal SAP BW.
Scenario: You use the internal SAP BW in another client in the mySAP ERP system than your ERP processing.
Result: The connection between the BW client and the ERP client source system(s) (i.e. client 001 for ERP, client 100 for BW), both the 'myself' and ERP client source systems, will show up as BW source systems!
Source system 001 and source system 100 will be displayed as SAP BW icons because SAP BW is client independent*
user master and authorizations are client dependent
    I hope this was interesting.
    Cheers,
    Mike.

  • HT2493 Can I change the icon of one of the operating systems folder?

Specifically, I would like to change the icon of the alias to 'mobile documents' folder that is currently sitting on my desktop. I have tried using the standard recipe to change the icon of pulling up the command I window and pasting over the icon in the northwest corner. My result is always a generic icon for a JPEG, PNG, ICO etc.

You need to paste an image, not the icon from an image file.

  • Is there a way to change the icon associated with icloud account?

Is there a way to change the icon associated with my iCloud account? It's currently a rose and i do not like it.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Are you referring to your iCloud account picture or your user picture?
It looks like you are referring to your user picture. To change it, open System Preferences > Users & Groups, press the picture box and choose the user picture you want from the ones that came by default. If you want to select a different picture stored on your Mac, drag that photo onto the picture box.
If you want to change your iCloud account picture, open http://www.icloud.com and log in with your Apple ID. Then, press your name at the top right of the site and press the user picture. If you put the cursor on the picture box, you will see a button at the top of the box to change your picture

  • Change Dock Icons on OS 10.8.5

    Hi Mac Community!
For all of us Mac lovers, the one thing we are fascinated with is the fact that Mac in notorious for giving the end user the power to personalize the computer's look and feel, as well as making commands extremely user friendly.
This is not what I get from the last update to OS 10.8.5
I want to change the icons on my dock, as I should being that I am the owner of a fairly expensive piece of equipment, but this seems impossible to do for the Finder icon. Is there any way this can be done without causing any problems in the system?
    Any ideas are appreciated! THANKS!

for me it waste of time because if has say 100 nodes it wont botthers me.
but i have 20000 nodes and more its take a time.
and for all this nodes i have to make compares.
is there a way to force the DefaultTreeCellRenderer to not run the entire tree???
    Thanks

You need to make sure that your TreeModel interprets your group nodes to be non-leaf nodes (one of the methods in the TreeModel interface is called isLeaf). If you are using a DefaultTreeModel with DefaultMutableTreeNode objects, you can use the askAllowsChildren property of DefaultTreeModel and the allowsChildren property of DefaultMutableTreeNode to control this. See the API for more details:

  • How do I change these icons?

Finder and Dashboard... I understand the procedure to change the icon for most apps (open the "get info" window of the icon I want, copy the icon and then paste it to the "get info" window of the app I want to change)
But when I do this with the Dashboard icon and then drag it to the Dock, it reverts back to the original icon. What am I doing wrong?
And for the Finder, I can't seem to find where Finder lives on the HD (thus, I can't find the thing I'm supposed to "get info" on). Where is it?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

You want to be careful with it, anything that becomes part of the system the way this does has the potential to be dangerous. But I wouldn't have recommended it if I found it to be any problem, it's really been amazingly stable for what it is. Being up to date on the software is very important but they update very quickly and if you have a version that doesn't work with your version of OSX you'll get a warning immediately and will be asked if you want to download the right version, always do it.
The good thing is that when it's not open it's not doing anything and can't cause a problem, and you only need to open it when you make changes.
You get 25 changes for free, after that you can still keep it and everything you've already changed but can't do any more changes unless you pay for it, but it's pretty cheap. So if you want to maximize that open it and make sweeping changes everywhere, it all counts as one change. If you open it up and change one thing that also counts as one change. So with careful planning you can keep it to the 25 and use it for free.
Personally I bought it, I change things all the time, I don't always want an icon to last forever. I've changed the generic folder icon 5 times, but I might have a permanent one now.

  • Changing the icon for saved Web links.

Im trying out different forum topics to see if anyone can help and I thought this would be a cool thing to do and might be doable with an applescript.
I save a lot of web address as files to go back to later and I find the default @ icon for firefox or the blank icon for safari pretty appalling. I was wondering if there was a way to change the icon so that when ever I save a new link file it would use the new icon. I was thinking about just an icon that has the Firefox, safari, chrome logo would be good or even better a little picture preview of the web page its self. Any help on this little idea I have is very appreciated
I really like the idea of a page preview for weblink files. Like this ( http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a238/Nuclearanthrax/Screenshot2010-09-02at1021 41PM.png )
I completely understand a straight up no answer to this. I have no idea how applescript works. I have used it very few times.

    Pierre,
I tried this AppleScript but it was not working. Is there something that I need to check.
I had a few web link files in a folder and the script RAN the INFO window popped up but nothing changed.
This would be a valuable tool for me an my students,
    Thanks in advance

The following script should do part of what you are asking for. However, since it uses [GUI Scripting|http://www.macosxautomation.com/applescript/uiscripting/index.html], you must first enable the Accessibility Frameworks by clicking the checkbox labeled "Enable access for assistive devices" in the Universal Access System Preference pane.
Just copy and paste the script into the AppleScript Editor window and click the Run button.

  • Damaged system icons, how do I restore them?

I recently bought a new MacBook Pro Retina display and have been installing applications and copying over old files to start with a fresh system. I think I may have tweaked the default system icons because they look a little wierd:
I have been playing around with Onyx, TinkerTool, and Default Folder X. I'm not sure if they had anything to do with the wierd icons or not. Everything was fine for a few days. Affected icons are in default Apple apps and 3rd party apps. Not every icon is messed up, but many are.
I'm trying to restore them, but haven't had any luck yet. Has anyone seen this before and do you have a solution?
    Mark O.

I made a couple of attempts to reinstall Lion. These attempts were done by restarting and holding command-r during boot up. Not wanting to lose the information I had already added to my computer I did a restore from a time machine backup I made. Apparently this didn't touch Lion, it just re-installed my information and settings. The icon problem persisted.
On a second attempt I decided I would try to do a clean install of Lion and figure out how to get my infomation back later. After the restart and holding command-r again my mac went into internet recovery mode. It downloaded some 4GB of data from Apple, but I'm not sure what that did. I think it downloaded OS X Lion. It then re-installed the OS. I was surprised when it came back to the login screen - it seemed that nothing had changed. Upon logging in I found that my information was still there, but the icon issue was fixed. I don't know if it installed Lion without disturbing my stuff, or if it did a clean install and then restored my info from the time machine backup. It didn't take more than an hour, hour and a half.
In any case, all is well now. I still don't know what messed up my icons, but at least it can be fixed without too much trouble. I'm glad I'm on a mac. This would have caused headaches on Windows since it lacks native backup and restore features.
