Changing System Language Messed up my Library

iTunes is so messed up and bloated at this point that I'm regularly using Spotlight and VLC to play music!
Anyway, I switched my System language from English to Japanese and now much of my 'Classical' genre I had assigned became 'クラシカル' per Apple's whim. When I double-click a song, 'poof' it disappears. So am I now expected to switch over to クラシカル because of Apple's bug? No, I just reassigned the new クラシカル genre back to 'Classical,' but in the meantime wasting my day and feeling resentful.
I was always a Mac user because Microsoft expected me to do things THEIR way, not mine. While I initially strongly applauded the iPhone, I see now how iOS has encroached upon the desktop/laptop users too and is increasingly boxing us in. Settings are meant to be 'Set' which hopefully means having to do that task only once. If Apple is aggravating its loyal customer base with a flagship application, I can't say things are boding well there in Cupertino, at least not for me.
Yes, I get it. Apple keeps 'updating' the library by going on the web based on some new action. But I do not want it to do that. Sometimes I want it to update the library, but I want to tell it when I need that done. This is not user-friendly, it's corporate-friendly.
P.S. I tried to update my profile computer to OS 10.9.3 and Apple hasn't even updated that database yet! What the....???

In all my attempts to screw up iPhoto, I don't think I've ever lost a photo that was in the damaged library to begin with. That you can see your pictures in Albums, but not in the Library view is highly irregular. Are the images you see in the albums the full-size images, or are they just thumbnails of the original (that is probably no longer in the library)?
If you've ever enhanced or cropped photos in your old library, that would explain the duplicates. When an image is altered, iPhoto squirrels the original away in case you ever want to revert back to the unaltered version. When the library is rebuilt, depending on the corruption, those originals become orphans. iPhoto treats them as "found" images in your library, and they would show up as duplicates.

  • Changing system language in CC 2014

I cannot change the application language in Photoshop CC 2014.
It was loaded in french and I would like to have it in english.
I chose American english in the preferences of the Creative Cloud dialogue box.
Nothing happened and the application is still in french.
I had to do that in Photoshop CC and there it worked all right.
In the prefences of Photoshop CC 2014 the only language available is french.
Apparently the language selection for Photoshop CC 2014 does not work properly.
I thank you for the help.
    Reynold Jaquet

I apologies for your frustration, anssikumpula!
It's not necessary to uninstall the version of InDesign CC on your computer to switch UI language. You just need to change the language preference and install the version with the appropriate language UI.
    Here's a video that explains the process: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/cs6-creative-cloud-feature-tour-for-design/installing-multiple-l anguages-of-a-desktop-application/
As for keeping all user settings consistent, this is where Syncing with Creative Cloud feature will come into play later this year. Meanwhile, you can export the preferences .xml file from your user library and import to the version with different language UI. Please refer here for instructions: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4640179
Hope this helps and please mark the answer as correct if it does. Thanks!

  • System language change

    Hello,
I just want to ask if there is way to change standard system language. Now we have DE and supplementation is also DE. We want to change system language to EN and supplementation to DE.
    Thx.

    HI Jan,
    Use
Use the language supplementation function to fill in the gaps in a language that has not been translated completely.
Supplementation actions are client-specific. The languages are supplemented in the client in which you are logged on. If you use multiple clients, you must supplement the languages explicitly in each production client.
You can also access the texts stored in cross-client database tables from all clients simultaneously. The default setting specifies that cross-client tables are supplemented when you are logged on to client 000.
    Procedure
           1.      Go to the language that you want to supplement and choose  or Language ® Supplement Language.
           2.      On the next screen, enter a description of your supplementation. This helps you to recognize the supplementation you have started in the transaction SMLT overview.
           3.      In the center of the dialog box, enter the conditions for selecting the tables you want to supplement. These fields are set with SAP defaults that depend on the logon client, however, you can change them.
Client-specific Customizing tables are subject to special handling during language imports. This has resulted in the following supplementation strategies being created:
    ·         Combined with RSREFILL (standard setting when logging on to clients other than 000)
    ·         Combined with Client Maintenance
    ·         Supplement Only
For more information on these strategies, choose Information on Table Selection in the system, or see the section Customizing Tables.
           4.      Enter a start time and (optional) target server, and then you are ready to supplement the language by choosing Execute. This action schedules a background job that performs the supplementation.
           5.      The overview screen of transaction SMLT creates a supplementation entry for the appropriate language. Choose the corresponding icon to administer and monitor the supplementation.
The overview contains the following icons:
    Display supplementation log (in table)
    Display job information
    Display job log
Restart action, if it has terminated for technical reasons
           6.      The icon at the start of the line indicates the status of the import.
The icons have the following meanings:
The selected table was supplemented without errors.
There were warnings during the supplementation. You can analyze these warnings by displaying the supplementation log. To display the supplementation log, choose  or double-click the name of the supplementation action.
There were errors during supplementation. Analyze them as described above.
The action is scheduled. Choose  to display job information, such as the start time and target server.
    The action is currently running.
The action has terminated for technical reasons. To find out the cause of the error, see the job log (choose ).
           7.      The supplementation log gives you detailed information about the tables that have been supplemented.
Each line of the log contains the name, class, description, and other information about a supplemented table. The status, client, and supplementation mode appear first, followed by statistics about how many rows in the table have been processed, inserted, and modified. You can also see a return code.
All tables that have been processed fully are given a status based on the return code. This status is indicated by a green, yellow, or red light.
For information about the meaning of the return codes, display the F1 help for the return code (RC) column.

  • Reinstall windows 7 pro to change the system language

    Hello Everyone!
I recently bought a ThinkPad T400 online with preinstalled Windows 7 Professional.
The system language is German and I want to change it to english.
So far Ive seen, that it's only possible to do so by reinstalling windows 7 pro as an english version while reusing my product key, if I don't want to upgrade to ultimate.
I'm not so good with computers and I'm a bit scared to mess something up!
Can someone of you give me a nice step by step or some recommendations what I need to take care of?
Can I really just download windows 7 pro from the official windows store? And how do I make sure to really get it in english?
Thank you so much in advance!!
I really didn't think changing the language could be so much of a hassle.

Installing Windows 7 is easy. But before going that route, you may want to contact Lenovo and see if you can get the english system recovery discs.
If you have to reinstall windows there are good instructions here.As for downloading an ISO or purchasing an install disc, Microsofts position is that the ISO's are only available to people who purchase their OS online and then download it. All other uses are verboten. What you decide to do it is between you and your lawyer.

And you seriously need to backup your iPhoto library and purchase and install iPhoto '11 version 9.5.x from the App store and download and run the iPhoto library upgraded \then run the new iPhoto - 7.1.5 is not fully compatible with Mavericks

  • How can change the system language on my S4 to Italian?

I would like to change the system language on my S4 to Italian but that is not an option.  In fact, there are only about six choices of language, which is ridiculous for the type of phone.  How can I add languages?  I know people with the same phone on other carriers that can do this very easily from system settings.

I know Italian is not currently an option.  That is the reason for my question.  I would like to change the system language to Italian.  Any third party apps,  as you recommend, require the phone to be rooted and I do not want to do that. Why is it that the same phone on other carriers has a wide selection of languages to choose from but Verizon's version only has six options to choose from? You have the ability to change the keyboard language,  which I did,  but not the system language.

If you're having trouble making changes to files that are inside your home folder (represented by a house icon in the sidebar of a Finder window), or if you can't get changes to the settings of an application to stick, then please see below.
    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Spell-checker keeps changing to US English when system language order is changed

When I switch the order of preferred system languages in System Preferences' Language and Text section, the spell-checker's language often changes to 'US English', even though it's disabled on my computer as I prefer the British spell-checker. My current preferred language order is 'British English', followed by 'English' and 'German'. US English is completely disabled as a system language. When I go and check the 'spelling' option in the Language and Text panel, the spelling is set to US English (even if it had British English set before, which it has done since I initially set up my language options) and I have to see unsightly red underlines under words like colour and realise. Whilst this is easy to change I would rather not have to constantly change it back to British every time I do this. Does anyone else experience this, and is there a way to prevent the US English zombie from rising again?
    I'm using OS X 10.8.4.

    fatal exception wrote:
generic English (which is just a general 'English' category when selecting a system language; US English is its own separate setting that you can use to explicitly prefer American localisations in software
It may be a general category, but in practice I have never seen a piece a software where English will give any other localization than American English.  Have you?
I doubt that switching OS languages is something many people do more than once.  Still, you are right that it should go back to the original setting.  Let Apple know via

  • Change system default language

    Hi all,
Just bought my first mac (macbook air 11") and i bought it second hand.
The guy that sold it to me, had the language set to Chinese. I cant read Chinese so i asked him to change it to English, which he did.
He also left a lot of his personal information on here, which is not wise, but i am a nice guy and attempted to do a system restore.
The whole restore menues were in Chinese but i managed to guess my way through it and now it seems to be doing a restore.
I know the language can be changed once in the OS, however how do i do this for the restore partition?
Not sure where he got it from, but open to suggestions how to change it all to english.

    So an update.
I found a help article which describes how to change the language of the logon screen, which worked fine. Now OSX and the logon screen are all in englis, however the recovery partition is still in Chinese.
Not sure where to go from here as i cant really load an english version of OSX disk on the MBA.
