Changing T9 dictionary

Does anyone know how to change the predictive text dictionary for SMS and mail?
As a native English speaker living in Switzerland, I need to be able to send SMS and mail in both English and German; I'm currently stuck on an English dictionary which doesn't seem to want to let me override it to write German. (ich always becomes icy for example). In the demo there's a globe icon on the keyboard, which I don't have. Can anyone help? TIA

Go to Settings > General > International > Keyboards then turn on the keyboard for German as well as English).
You will then get the Globe symbol on the keyboard which will let you select the language to use.

I'm writing a syllabus for class and the spellcheck is stuck in French - for the life of me I can't change it.  The dictionary menu doesn't show up ANYWHERE.  Is this a bug?  is there a fix?

  • Change iPhone dictionary/definition language?

I just switched my iPhone's language setting from English (US) to French in the hopes that I could read French news articles, and use the iPhone's "define" feature.  Unfortunately, changing the phone's language does not change whatever dictionary that the "define" feature uses.  I still can only get definitions of English words.
Am I missing an option somewhere?  How can I get the iPhone to define words in other languages?  I've changed both the language setting, and the regin format setting to French to no avail.
    Thanks!

You can't. The reference dictionary included in iOS only covers English and Japanese, and there is no way for users to add other modules yet.  Tell Apple you want more here:

  • How does one change the dictionary default from Portuguese to English?

In one of the upgrades, instead of defaulting to English, my spellchecker instead defaults to Portuguese, which is the first language listed (also have French and Spanish). So every time I open Firefox, I have to change back to English.

I've had this problem for over a year. I have three dictionaries installed, but when opening a text box i.e. on a web page where text may be entered e.g. to create email or fill a form on line, 90+% of the words are red-wavy underlined because the dictionary in use is not my native language, but one I may occasionally try to use when I must...which is rarely.
Firefox NEEDS to have a setting for the Default Spell-Check Language, and it doesn't have one.
Unfortunately, I stopped coding some thirty years ago, and would love to do the fix, but I've simply been ignorant too long and must beg this of the fine developer crew out there.

  • Change the dictionary to correspond to the language I am typing

I am working for a Translation and PAO agency, which means that we are publishing quite a lot of different languages.
How can I make sure that the defined dictionary is the one corresponding to the language I am typing some additional text?
How can I make correspond the keyboard dictionary to the language I am publishing?
    Thanks for your help

To change the language document-wide, click the mouse sprite in the margin, so that no paragraph or character formats are currently selected.
    Format > Paragraph > Designer
    [ Default Font ]
The dialog fields should be all blank or "As-Is"
    Language: [ Dansk ]
    [ Update All ]
    <*> Default Font Properties Only
<*> All Paragraphs and Catalog Entries
    [ Update ]
    Format > Character > Designer
The dialog fields should be all blank or "As-Is"
    Language: [ Dansk ]
    [ Update All ]
<*> All Characters and Catalog Entries
    [ Update ]
This is for FM7.1. I don't know if later versions have an easier way to do this, or do it book-wide.

  • How do I change the dictionary language in the met...

    Hi all
I'm using Windows 8 with the display language set to english. Now when I use Skype the app picks up on this and uses an english dictionary for spell checking. This would be fine if not for the fact that I'm danish and are getting very annoyed with the red lines telleing me I can't spell.
So... Does anyone know where i can change this setting and is it a Skype or a Windows setting?
    /Allan
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It's quite remarkable how this can be an issue in a communications tool used world wide, most often between people with different languages?
A quick recommendation: Fire the person responsible for planting the idea of mapping the language dictionary in Skype with Windows native language. What a complete **bleep**!
I am less and less surprised these day about the usability misstakes being made by all our major companies. They tend to focus on new "cool" functionality, rather than actually making sure the user experience is at its best. We see it all the time. Just look at Android. It makes me sad.

  • Can i change the dictionary for spell checking

    Hi,
I am using the trial version of robo help and I am testing
how the support for german is.
I changed my project to german (file / project setings /
language). The result up to now is, that there is german spell
checking, but the dictionary used doesn't know all words that I' m
using. Of course I can add word by word to the dictionory, but I
dont't like to do this hard job.
Is there a way to use the dictionary which MS Word is using,
which would be very fine for me?
If anyone can help me, thanks for this.
    Kindly regards
    Fritzj

    Hi all
I did a bit of digging around and here is what I've
    discovered. Hopefully it will help?
I am using Word 2003, so the method outlined here is for that
version. Note that I'm not a particularly rabid Word user, as I
tend to avoid it if at all possible, so I suppose other versions
may differ. Additionally, I'm assuming here that you are referring
to the personal dictionary and not one that is supplied by virtue
of installing Word or some other component.
In Word, I located the personal dictionary. (Tools >
Options... > Spelling & Grammar tab > Custom
Dictionaries... button) This listed the "Full path" of
    C:\...\Application Data\Microsoft\Proof\CUSTOM.DIC. I find this
mildly amusing, as I can't truly see the "full path" and am left
wondering what lies between C:\ and \Application Data. I mean, ...
    could be anything, no?
So on a hunch, I looked in the following location:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Rick Stone\Application
    Data\Microsoft\Proof
As luck would have it, there was CUSTOM.DIC all big as life
    and twice as natural.
Suspecting it was a simple ASCII text file as the RoboHelp
HTML personal dictionary is, I tried opening it using Windows
Notepad. Sure enough, it popped open. Seems to simply list terms
    with no other information.
So at this point, we know how to access the contents of the
personal dictionary for Word 2003. Now let's look at RoboHelp HTML,
    shall we?
In RoboHelp HTML, you click Tools > Spelling Options...
    > Dictionaries tab. Here, you should see Personal Dictionary.tlx
listed in the left panel bearing the label of "Used dictionaries:"
(Sorta sounds like a library sale, eh?) To the right of the file
name, in the same pane, you should see the path listed. Mine reads:
    file://C:/Documents and Settings/Rick Stone/Application
    Data/eHelp/Lexicons/Personal Dictionary.tlx
I opened it using Windows Notepad and here is what I see:
    #LID 30840
    1boffo i
    2xzxz azxzx
    3ppp ApPp
    4azx cxza
    5winnie CWiNnIe
    6garbo e
I have some really odd terms in there. And for good reason!
During my initial spelunking, it appears that a particular
structure is in place. So I tested by adding terms along with
different options for each term. The terms listed are matched to
the option used when you click the Modify... button on the Spelling
    Options dialog.
    1boffo i
1boffo is the term and the i means "No action" is the option
    used for the term.
    2xzxz azxzx
2xzxz is the term and the a means "Auto Change" is the option
used for the term. The zxzx following the a indicates the term to
    automatically change to.
    3ppp ApPp
3ppp is the term and the A means "Auto Change (Preserve
Case)" is the option used for the term. The pPp following the A
indicates the term to automatically change to.
    4azx cxza
4azx is the term and the c means "Change" is the option used
for the term. The xza following the c inidicates the term to offer
    to change to.
    5winnie CWiNnIe
5winnie is the term and the C means "Change (Preserve Case)
is the option used for the term. The WINnie following the C
indicates the term to offer to change to.
    6garbo e
6garbo is the term and the e means "Treat as misspelled" is
the option used for the term.
Sooo, having looked all that over, it would seem as simple as
copying the contents of the original Personal Dictionary from Word,
then opening the Personal Dictionary from RoboHelp HTML and pasting
the terms in. Then try modifying them a tad by inserting an "i"
following the term. I'm not sure if a tab is what was used between
the term and the i, so it may take a bit of trial and error.
Hopefully this helps a bit... Rick

  • How can I change the dictionary from english to german when in Pages

How do I change the spelling - proof reading from english to german when writing in Pages

If you want Pages to be all in German the text as well as the Menus etc, drag Deutsch to the top of the list in:
Menu > System Preferences > Language & Text.
If you only want some text to be Spell Checked in German select the text:
    Inspector > Text > More > Language > Deutsch
Language is like bold, color or the font, it is part of the text style.

  • Change the dictionary language??

Hello, I have a mac bookpro! I who come with the dictionary when cowardice, it is my English! how did I do to put it in French? thank you for your reply
Bonjour, j'ai un mac bookpro ! j'ai le dictionaire qui vien avec quand on lachete, mes il est en anglais !! comment je fait pour le mettre en français ?? merci de votre reponse

Dictionary.app is only provided in English and Japanese.  French is not possible unless you can find a French module to add.  Here is some info on that:
    http://m10lmac.blogspot.com/2011/12/more-dictionaries-for-dictionaryapp.html
Dictionary.app has nothing to do with spell checking or autocorrection.  That is determined by system preferences/language & text/text/spelling.

  • Changing Spelling Dictionary

For years OS X has automatically corrected spelling using American spellings. Unfortunately that has changed in Snow Leopard (I just upgraded from Leopard) and I don't know how to switch back. It appears it has decided that I want British spellings because I am living in Australia. Not so, how do I change preferences for that so the computer corrects in Americanese?
I did try changing the language in Language/Keyboard but when I did that it changed calendar info to American (month first, day second, then year which is confusing since most of the world uses day, month, year) but I want to have regular date info with American spellings for corrections as I type.
    ?

how do I change preferences for that so the computer corrects in Americanese?
Go to system preferences/language & text/language and make sure that English is at the top of the list.
Go to system preferences/language & text/text/spelling and make sure it says US English.
The Input Sources tab has nothing to do with spelling or dates.
Date info is determined in system preferences/language & text/formats.
