Changing text tone.

Hey there, i am new ios. I just got my iphone 5 few days ago. After being with android for about 4 years. i just figured out how to change the ringtone and now i wanted to know how to i change the text tone. I want to make my own. Is this even possible.
Thank you guys.

There are two ways to set a Text Tone on an iPhone. One is the general default tone and the second is for individual contacts. The general default can be set in Settings > Sounds > Text Tone and the setting for individual contacts is in the Phone app were you will select a contact and press the Edit button at the top left, scroll down and select Text Tone to change the alert. This is also the same for Ringtones as you will see the option for that just above the Text Tone option in both examples. In my experience I have not found a way to create a custom Text Tone only custom Ringtones. Hope that helps.

I have a a tone i got from the App store, & in settings

Try resetting the settings on the device.
This puts settings back to their factory state and will hopefully fix whatever glitch is causing the setting to revert
Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings
Only thing is you will have to setup some stuff again. Passcode, Wi-fi, Wallpaper, Tones.. But no content will be lost.

  • My ringer is no longer working for text and email notifications. Only working for phone calls. I have gone through all the settings to see where something is off. Not finding anything. I have tried changing the tone and it just vibrates on everything.

Ok so I happened to figure it out while on the phone to apple support. Even though the guy was very nice, I think I knew more than him! He was explaining very basic resolution principles I played about. I had the second option in displays resolution. All I did was unplug the HDMI cable, click on 'best for display' then plugged the HDMI in and my resolution on the normal monitor changed to the normal blue, then went black momentarily and then changed to a strange resolution but another window appeared that said SONY BRAVIA HDMI at the top! Hey presto! Don't know why it didn't do it yesterday - I probably left the HDMI cable in or something! Oh well. Problem solved!

  • Changing ringtone/text tone on an application you downloaded

Is there a way to change a text tone or ringtone on a certain application you downloaded. I only see the option for sound on or off.

yes i downloaded the gmail app from the app store because i receive emails faster via this app then from the iphone. i went to settings on both and there's no option to change tones. Also the tones that are used are from the iphone so i figure there would be some option to change it, but can't find it and it's not in notifications.

  • Is there any way to change or remove the 'text-tone' sound iPhone's make when sending an SMS/iMessage.

Is there any way to change or remove this sound? The same sound is played if an SMS / message is received while a chat window is open, regardless of your 'text-tone' sound settings. Any ideas on how to change or fix this issue? Thanks.

No, there is no way of changing that particular sound.  Sounds like a blip.

  • I cannot change the SMS text tone on my iphone 4s

OK, so I've upgraded to iOS 7, and really like the new selection of pingy noises you can set to accompany various events like new emails, new SMS messages etc.
Only I cannot seem to change the tone associated with a new SMS message. It was 'Robin Hood' under the previous iOS, and stubbornly remains that sound no matter how often I try to change it to one of the new tones.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

I know you already figured it out, but for anyone else who is still trying to do this on an old iOS I found a workaround as well-
Simply delete the current file of whichever sound you do not like, then replace it with your custom sound that you created, and rename that to the name of the deleted file. Use the same encoding and bitrate of course to avoid incompatibility problems, but iOS will play your sound from now on thinking it is one of the default sounds. Works perfectly!
Thank god apple finally fixed this in later iOSes

  • Is there a way to prevent the text tone from playing over the speaker while in a call?

I have a custom tone for incoming text messages. When I am in a call, whether it be the handset, speaker or bluetooth, and I receive a text, the text tone plays loudly over the call, and is extremely annoying for me and the other party. It would be nice if it could just give a short quiet vibe while in a call. Please don't tell me change my text notification to vibrate. That is not a solution, I want my text tone to work, except when I'm in a call. If possible I would still like some notification, just something less intrusive. The next best thing would be to just silence it altogether when a call is in progress. Also switching the side button while in a call is not a solution as that defeats the purpose of hands-free, and also is difficult with some protective cases, Thanks in advance.

  • Is it possible (without jailbreaking)  to make and USE custom Text tones?

Anyone?? I figured out custom ringtones with itunes etc (is it me or is itunes on a windows system complicated? lol..probably me....) but can you create and add your own text tones...and also can you have different tones for text, voicemail etc?
I am new to iPhone (had ipod touches which is very similar) prior to this just had a regular verizon envy touch phone...
    Responses appreciated y'all

It is possible, I have custom ringtones on mine without jailbreaking using Windows 7 iTunes. Here is how to do it:
    1. Using iTunes, select which song you want to create a ringtone from.
    2. Right click the song, select Get Info, and go to the Options tab.
    3. Choose a start time for where you want your ringtone to start. Add 30 seconds to that number, and input it into the stop time (to make a 30 second ringtone). Select OK.
    4. Create an AAC version by either a) right clicking the song or b) selecting from the Advanced menu at the top of iTunes.
    5. After creating the AAC version, you should be able to see it in iTunes. Right click the song, and select Show in Windows Explorer.
    6. In Windows Explorer, right click the song and hit rename. The file will look something like "Ringtone.m4a"
    7. Change the name to "Ringtone.m4r" (Note: if you don't see the .m4a extension or can't rename it, there is an option in Windows to allow you to rename file extensions)
    8. After renaming, drag the song to your iTunes, and iTunes will automatically create a "Ringtones" folder, and will sync to your phone.
    Enjoy!
(Don't forget to change back the start/stop times in your original song)

I have had my iPhone for a while now but I am getting bored of the text tones and want something new and interesting. But I can only download ringtones.

No.  This will likely change with iOS 5, so hang in there.

Hi Sarar2333!  Let's get your text tones working again!
Here's a link with instructions how to enable and change your alert sounds for your text/notification settings on your iPhone 4S: http://vz.to/1stiF8a.  You can ensure text tones are enabled by selecting a tone in the "Text Tone" setting.  Let me know how that works out for you.  Thanks!

  • All text tones are available in General-Sounds. Some are missing via Contacts-Edit Contact.

I have confirmed that this issue is also present in the iPhones in the Apple store as of 28-April-2014.  I told one of the guys in the Apple store about it and he said that the iPhones in the store have a custom version, so I asked him to check his own iPhone.  He did, and the issue is present on his phone, so it's definintely a general IOS7 iPhone issue.
If you go to General -> Sounds -> Text Tone -> Classic, you can see all the classic text tones.
If you go to Contacts, select a contact, select Edit -> Text Tone -> select Classic, some are missing.
I used Choo Choo for one of my contacts while I was on IOS6 and when I switched to a new phone with IOS7 and performed a restore, their text tone changed to Tri-tone.  I tried to change it back and saw it was not availble, so I figured they had taken it out of IOS7.  Then I heard a friend's iPhone 5 on IOS 7 who had Choo Choo set up as their default.  I investigated and saw that more Classic text tones were available via General.
Is there some logical reason why some text tones are not available for Contacts?

Do you maybe have your contacts separated into groups? If so, perhaps you have unchecked the group that the missing contact are in.
In the Contacts app, click the Groups button in the upper left corner. Make sure all groups have a check mark next to them.

  • How can I get back my text tone?

After updating to 7.0.2, my 4S no longer makes a sound when text comes through. I checked all settings and even changed the tones a couple times. This phone was perfect before the update! Annoying, to say the least. I have to keep checking to assure I don't miss anything critical.  Occasionally, the same thing happens with calls! At least they do go to voicemail.

Are you on iOS 7? Because if so I too had the same problem. What I did was go into my messages and I went to create a new message. Then in the field that says "To", type the person/contacts name and then go into the message box. After that all of your deleted messages should reappear.
